* OurVampiresAreDifferent: The Protodeviln are unable to generate Spiritia on their own, and therefore have to absorb it from other species. Their thralls can also do this, to the point where City 7's citizens actually start calling them "vampires" in-universe.

** In spite of having several very good songs to choose from, "Planet Dance" seems to be the default song for every battle. Even if you like that song, it gets old.

* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Fire Bomber LITERALLY perform their own songs. So literally, Yoshiyuki Fukuyama is consistently seen on stage with a guitar during the concerts IRL.

* Squick: Mylene being 14 while in a love triangle with two adult men is unpleasant to say the least.

* ConspicuousCG: Present in the opening, not in the series itself.

* KiAttacks: ...through the power of rock and roll.

* BeamOWar: Pulled off in episode 27 between a Protodevlin and the Basara/Mylene duo. The twist? The latter use ThePowerOfRock as their beam - literally. The SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic just elevates this to off-the-scale JustForFun/{{HSQ}}.

And he jumps in his fighter, [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome breaks open the defenses and reaches the mission target before anyone can understand where all those explosions came from]].

Millia also looks quite young for her advanced age, presumably due to her being a meltrandi (female zentradi).

** Which is wierd, because Koyasu, Gamlin's VA, has shown in other roles that he is capable of singing quite well.

* MeaningfulName: "Nekki" means "enthusiasm", and "Basara" translates roughly to "crazy/stylish/over the top". both fitting of a rocker.

* NuclearWeaponsTaboo: The show continues the Macross tradition of referring to their nuke stand-ins using the ambiguous term 'hannou heiki' or 'hannou dan' meaning 'reaction weapon'. * RedshirtArmy: Led by [[WeAreTeamCannonFodder Emerald Force]], [[OvershadowedByAwesome Diamond Force]] and, later, the [[OvershadowedByAwesome Jamming Birds]] who get a pass by occasionally proving their worth.

* UnfortunateNames: Ray and Lt. Kinryu's former elite fighter group. It doesn't matter how badass a fighter squadron you guys are, [[spoiler:"Pink Peckers" is not a name calculated to strike fear into the hearts of your opponents.... or anything else, aside from gay/genitalia jokes....]]

* HotBlooded: Basara is to HotBlooded singing as [[Anime/GaoGaiGar Gai Shishioh]] is to HotBlooded courage.

* {{Jerkass}}: It's hard to see why, if he weren't a MessianicArchetype, anyone would put up with Basara at all. He's continually blowing out the rest of the band, and, indeed, their fans, for his own reasons. He endangers the lives of military and civilian personnel by turning up in combat and getting in the way, and is completely insensitive to the feelings of pretty much everyone around him. This also ends up being one of the main criticisms non-Japanese fans, in particular, level at the show; he's such an unrepentant, unrelenting ''ass'', and never really changes or gets called on it, that it badly stretches viewers' suspension of disbelief.
* JerkassHasAPoint: For everything that's said about Basara, it doesn't change that ''he's right''. Singing is the answer to their problem.

* [[spoiler:DyingMomentOfAwesome: Diamond Force's Commander Kinryu got one. The Battle 7 was in the middle of transforming when one of the Protodeviln ships was about to fire at it. Even though he was in a VF-11C, Kinryu had it purge its armor, charge into the Protodeviln ship, and fire at its core after he got inside in a TakingYouWithMe. * LighterAndSofter: Compared to ''SDF Macross''[='s=] RealRobot military drama, ''7'' has a much more lighthearted SuperRobotShow vibe to it.
