** The Collector as he appears in the comics has the visage of a fairly creepy-looking old man. Much like Loki Marvel [[ProgressivelyPrettier would make]] the collector [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcRzR8KM96dLZHqvQv0Qiy0n_BWDtqFAxHrL8hKR1peL7v8VcQbO&usqp=CAU handsome]] in the comics as well.

** Hobbits are generally portly, but with the exception of Sean Astin, who is already stocky and gained some weight for the role of Sam, the producers hired slender actors for the Fellowship hobbits. Director Peter Jackson didn't want the characters to look like little people by being overly stocky. Frodo in the books is described as "stout," and, while he's supposed to look younger than his actual age (fifty), teenager Creator/ElijahWood is definitely stretching it. Then again, hobbits do age more slowly than humans. Hobbits in the books are also said to look friendly, not handsome or beautiful, which cannot be said for the Fellowship hobbits.

* Every single film adaptation of one of Creator/RoaldDahl's works can come across as this almost automatically, because of the books' art style for the illustrations, which makes everyone seem a notch or two less attractive than they presumably are supposed to be. If you're beautiful or cute, you look average. If you're average, you look ugly, and if you're ugly, you look like a troll. The most extreme example of this would be Creator/JohnnyDepp as Willy Wonka in ''Film/CharlieAndTheChocolateFactory'', even with the UncannyValley aspects of his makeup. But Wonka has always been prone to [[AdaptationDyeJob having his look toned down]] in adaptations -- in the novel he's a RummageSaleReject who appears middle-aged (he still has black hair and a goatee) but is really [[OlderThanTheyLook older than he looks]]; prior to Quentin Blake, illustrators gave the character a rather leprechaun-esque appearance inspired, perhaps, by the phrase "extraordinary little man". In the public imagination, however, people think of either Depp or, even more often, [[Film/WillyWonkaAndTheChocolateFactory Gene Wilder]] (who's also more conventionally attractive than the book description) when you bring the character up.

*** M.Bouc is a short, stout elderly man in the book, in the 2017 film he gets AgeLift and is played by the handsome Creator/TomBateman. Although to be fair the [[Series/{{Poirot}} TV adaptation]] had a similarly younger Bouc than the book or 1974 film.

* Velma in the first live action ''Film/ScoobyDoo'' film goes from [[http://www.selectspecs.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/velma3.gif this]] to [[https://img.cinemablend.com/filter:scale/quill/4/5/4/8/4/d/45484d4cfd78b9a77356838b43ace864eb9e23bf.jpg?fw=1200 this]]. ** Eponine in the book is scrawny, dirty, and not attractive at all, but in the film she is portrayed by the lovely Samantha Barks. Same goes for several of the barricade boys, who are invariably attractive onscreen.

* While not much of a difference due to prosthetics and makeup, Gargamel as played by Creator/HankAzaria in ''Film/TheSmurfs'' and ''Film/TheSmurfs2'' has a full set of teeth compared to his [[ComicBook/TheSmurfs comic book]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs animated]] counterparts.

** ComicBook/TheHulk (while DependingOnTheArtist factors) in the comics typically has a [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcTheht11x4yHge5hUB_454NCWVdu64rfz-J3Q&usqp=CAU broad brutish face reminiscent]] of an ogre. In the MCU due to Creator/MarkRuffalo providing MotionCapture The Hulk’s face is far less ugly and [[https://do-slez.com/uploads/posts/2020-04/1586427065_9baa57db61c46b7bcb2b3a40e7e7045f.jpg more human looking]]. This also applies to Hulk’s alter ego Bruce Banner who's usually [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcRFG2QEnOyMqQ0U2EWc9jlgR-7dkpcxWSNpBw&usqp=CAU a gangly looking man]] in the comics, but in the MCU and in the [[Film/{{Hulk}} 2003 movie]] is played by Creator/EdwardNorton, Creator/MarkRuffalo and Creator/EricBana who are far more good looking than the Dr Banner from the comics.

** In the comics, [[ComicBook/{{Killmonger}} Erik Killmonger]] is a hulking and brutish ScaryBlackMan with an almost [[https://terrigen-cdn-dev.marvel.com/content/prod/1x/108kmg_com_mas_mob_04.jpg cartoonishly muscular physique]]. In the ''Film/{{Black Panther|2018}}'' movie, he's played by Creator/MichaelBJordan, who, while still ripped, is far slimmer and has a much more attractive face. The same goes for M’Baku, who is played by the ruggedly handsome Creator/WinstonDuke, while in the comics he’s [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcTCdKWaeaCzoJKMFv5G8z3sCTX16cD7Mt-x-B42PJBfk1e459Ai&usqp=CAU a monstrous man in white gorilla skin]]. These changes were done to avoid the UnfortunateImplications of portraying African men in such a manner.

* Famous aversion in ''Film/TheShining'' as in Creator/StephenKing’s [[Literature/TheShining novel]] Jack Torrance is rugged and tall, and his wife Wendy is blonde and beautiful. The stocky and balding Creator/JackNicholson and the disheveled and [[AdaptationDyeJob brunette]] Shelley Duvall clearly don’t match the book’s description (Creator/StevenWeber and Rebecca De Mornay in the TV Miniseries do however). This was actually intentional on [[Creator/StanleyKubrick Kubrick]]’s part as he wanted an “unhinged” look to the characters and subvert the typical Hollywood standard.

* A number of issues in ''Film/{{Watchmen}}'':
** Some people thought that the overall cast was too young and attractive to portray some of the middle-aged and beaten-down characters. (Although the age issue was out of necessity, to allow the actors to portray their younger selves in flashbacks.) Walter Kovacs in particular, [[spoiler:AKA Rorschach]], is supposed to be "fascinatingly ugly". Compare [[http://images.wikia.com/watchmen/images/b/b2/Walter_Kovacs.jpg comics]] and [[http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3440/3254751049_8527a1974a_o.jpg movie]] versions.

* In ''Film/TheMiracleOfTheWolves'', Jean-Louis Barrault was much easier on the eyes than Kinf of France UsefulNotes/LouisXI was.

* In the comic ''ComicBook/{{Asterix}} and Cleopatra'', Cleopatra is extremely attractive but has a GagNose which other characters constantly make backhanded compliments about, and her ostentatiousness is expressed through what she surrounds herself with. In the film adaptation she is played by Monica Bellucci in just the most impossibly {{Gorgeous Period Dress}}es ever.

** Gérard Depardieu is hardly pretty, but it's basically impossible for any human to be anywhere near as fat and funny-looking as Obelix.

* The aforementioned Arthur Fleck of ''Film/Joker2019'', while not a PrettyBoy like the DCEU Joker, manages to avoid FacialHorror ''entirely'', unlike other Jokers (the DCEU's included), who had their appearances affected by chemicals; ''Film/TheDarkKnight''[='=]s Joker, who sports a GlasgowGrin; or the Joker from [[ComicBook/{{Joker}} his self-titled one-shot]], who had both.

* ''Literature/ASeriesOfUnfortunateEvents'': The movie makes them appear much more "pretty" then they look in illustrations (excepting Violet, who was described as being pretty in the books), making Klaus look much older than he probably should, and making him no longer need glasses, which would be a vital plot point in the fourth book.

* In ''Manga/{{Ooku}}'', the shogun's best friend and right-hand woman is plain and pudgy with a sort of rectangular face. The live-action movie cast Wakui Emi, who bears [[http://charry.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/hhhhhfuyyyy45.jpg little resemblance]].

** In ''Film/ThorLoveAndThunder'', [[Gorr is a {{Downplayed|Trope}} example. The comic version of Gorr from ''[[ComicBook/ThorGodOfThunder2012 Thor: God of Thunder]]'' was a hideous alien with a bulbous noseless face, fangs, [[Franchise/StarWars Twi'lek]]-like head-tails, and a disheveled look. Here, he looks more human-like, is clad in a white robe, and is played by MrFanservice Christian Bale... though he still has ScaryTeeth, and the Necrosword's corruption has given him SupernaturalGoldEyes, TaintedVeins, and turned his gums, teeth, fingertips, and the area around his eyes pitch black.

* M.Bison (Vega in Japan) from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' games has creepy white eyes and [[EvilMakesYouUgly unpleasant]] face with a near [[PerpetualSmiler constant]] SlasherSmile plastered on it. In ''Film/StreetFighterTheMovie'' he's played by late and great comely LatinLover [[Creator/RaulJulia RaúlJuliá]] who while not muscly like in the games, has got normal eyes and nowhere near as threatening face.

* M.Bison (Vega in Japan) from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' games has creepy white eyes and [[EvilMakesYouUgly unpleasant]] face with a near [[PerpetualSmiler constant]] SlasherSmile plastered on it. * ''Film/FearAndLoathingInLasVegas'': In the book, Lucy, the girl "seduced" by Dr. Gonzo, is described as having "the face and form of a pitbull." This description does not apply to Creator/Christina Ricci in a startling variety of ways.

** Taken UpToEleven in the [[Film/ScoobyDooTheMysteryBegins TV]] [[Film/ScoobyDooCurseOfTheLakeMonster Movies]] where Shaggy is played by [[https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cd/Nick_Palatas_in_Lake_Monster.jpg Nick Palatas]]. In case the image link doesn't work, Nick Palatas is a [[CelebrityResemblance dead]] [[IdenticalStranger ringer]] for Creator/AndrewGarfield.

** Stuttering Bill Denbrough was handsome in his youth, but the book makes a point of Bill being balding and slighty overweight by the time he's an adult. In the miniseries he's played by the slim Richard Thomas, who has a full head of hair ''and'' a ponytail. ''Film/ItChapterTwo'' takes [[UpToEleven it even further]] by having adult Bill being portrayed by every fangirl's heart-throb Creator/JamesMcAvoy.

** Similarly, Paul's dad Duke Leto Atreides in the book is described having "a narrow face full of angles and planes, with a high-bridged aquiline nose that gave him the look of a hawk" in 1984 film he's played by Jürgen Prochnow who lacks said features and taken UpToEleven in the 2021 film where he's played by Creator/OscarIsaac.

* In the comics, ComicBook/DoctorDoom wears a mask to hide the severe burns he suffered as a young man. The first Tim Story ''[[Film/FantasticFour2005 Fantastic Four]]'' movie keeps the mask, but the explanation is changed from a disfiguring explosion to his new powers gradually turning his body into living metal. The second movie then completely undoes this by having the ComicBook/SilverSurfer accidentally heal his face with an energy blast, which somehow conveniently lets Doom keep his powers ''and'' his good looks. This also raises the question of ''why'' he even bothers to don the mask during the final act, since he no longer has any reason to cover his face.

*** Jacqueline is a compilcated case, in the book she's described as not quite beautiful but certainy striking, being waif-like and comely rather than being outright attractive like Linnet is. The ethereally pretty Creator/MiaFarrow from the [[Film/DeathOnTheNile1978 1978 film]] fits that description pretty well. In the [[Film/DeathOnTheNile2022 2022 film]] however Jackie is played by the straught up gorgeous and [[AdaptationalCurves shapely]] Creator/EmmaMackey, who manages to equal Linnet (played by the former [[BeautyContest Miss Israel]] Creator/GalGadot) in looks.

** Scorpion in the games as a burning wraith has [[DemBones skeleton features]] similar to ComicBook/GhostRider under the "mask" that is his head, in the 2021 film only Scorpion's mouth is ghastly and only when performing his [[BreathWeapon Toasty!]] FinishingMove
