Erm, i'm not sure how this kind of thing is usually done, but shouldn't the pronoun 'he' only be used for when Chapman came out and openly identified as male?

No. That's not really how it works.

Trans people generally consider themselves to always have been their gender, but either not realised it, or didn't have it recognised by others. So using their current/future pronouns retroactively is what's most appropriate.

It's like with gay people who've had relationships with men/women of the opposite sex. It's not as if they "used" to be straight. They were gay all along but either didn't realise it or were hiding it for whatever reason.

So when did TVT decide to Orwell articles? Or has it decided that 1984 was meant to be a template.

I’m tired of the sexist garbage going on this site. I’m leaving, this site now just trash. Hide / Show Replies

? Changing someone's pronouns because they prefer those is not '1984'.

Don't worry about it, people who've never read 1984 love to namedrop it whenever there's a change they disagree with. See also literally everytime something has been changed or deleted on this website.

So, JO has retired...

Maybe this should get added to the page?

Here's something I know we should add:

  • Wham Line: From the ending to her "Top Ten Space☆Dandy Episodes":
"And I hope you all enjoyed this video...because you just saw my last one."

Just to explain things to people wondering where the page went: JO herself asked for her page to be removed on her Twitter.

Despite JO asking for that I think removing the entire page is taking things too far - it would probably be best to trim the page down to tropes displayed in the content she produces, since her issue with the page was the amount of personal information the page contained.

She wants it strangled, we should let it die. Put the issue to rest until its starts up again later.

Let's be honest, people — if somebody clearly says (well, tweets) that she doesn't feel all that comfortable about the fact that there's a TVtropes page about her, then it's only common sense to delete the page. Let's show some respect.

I agree with Yuoaman on this. I don't really see where JO has the authority to ask for a full removal. Just get rid of the excessive personal information. Maybe lock the page if things get to be a bit much: I realize that she's kind of a controversial figure, and there's been a few inflammatory edits directed towards her over the past few days.

Actually, it is apparently against the site rules to delete a page because a creator asked for it. Carry on. We should bring the pic back, at least.

Not familiar enough with the formatting to bring the pic back, but I've been reverting the deletions for the past few minutes. Can someone else fix the image?

Might want to bring the issue to the image pickin' thread if there's a problem with the picture. There might be a better picture we can use.

This happened because Tim had made a mistake.

She's not the creator, she's the person. The idea that you choose to intrude on a real live person's privacy because it's entertaining for you is a poor demonstration of empathy and human kindness.

TheOtherSteve Since: Jan, 2001
Nov 11th 2013 at 9:25:12 PM •••

That's a fair point. The problem is that the point is getting lost and the pages in their entirety are getting removed.

Yuoaman Since: Mar, 2010
Nov 11th 2013 at 9:26:36 PM •••

That's what we're getting at: there's a separation between JO's content and her personal life, and the page should be exclusively about her content. Gossip about her personal life and the like should not be here.

"I'm personally tired of having to go to a site I normally don't visit just to edit out slander that people read about me there. Therefore, my request was for the page to be deleted." Why can't the site honor this? It seems pretty reasonable to me.

Yuoaman Since: Mar, 2010

I understand her position, it just seems unfair to fans of her work who do not write creepy shit and slander on her pages - those who just want to read about tropes present in her work and such.

sewingrose11 Since: Apr, 2013
Nov 11th 2013 at 9:37:24 PM •••

I can see why it could be considered extreme to remove a page just because the creator of a work or the subject of said page asked for it. But I think in the case of the page(s) having a recurrent problem of becoming invasive into her private life, that it should be allowed. Both she and her SO have complained on multiple occasions about how much they dislike it and how people are treating her personal life like it is fodder to be categorized into tropes.

TheOtherSteve Since: Jan, 2001
Nov 11th 2013 at 10:03:34 PM •••

1. Site policy is that creators cannot ask for pages to be flat-out deleted. It leads to stuff like what just happened: a bunch of stupid, pointless deletions that don't fully address the problem (if there is a problem, which isn't always the case) and just make people angry.

2. Another bit of site policy is that creators need to be kept separate from their work. The problem is that rule isn't really enforced. There actually was an attempt by captainpat to clean up the YMMV page about a month ago. It got reverted. And no one really stepped in after that.

Ironeye MOD Since: Jan, 2001
Nov 11th 2013 at 10:07:49 PM •••

Alright, let's get to the official clarifications: 1. No, we don't remove pages just because the creator wishes it. 2. No, getting into creepy personal stuff on a creator's page is not allowed. That shit should be deleted. 3. The page should be entirely about the works JO has produced as a creator of media.

For the time being, all the pages will be locked to prevent further vandalism. Requests for edits can be submitted here. Please clean up anything that hasn't been cleaned up already.

Also, if it's at all reasonable, the content ought to be at a page named after the series rather than the reviewer, in order to prevent such problems in the future.

Question for Mod: Where does a trope like "Bare your Midriff" fit in exactly? It is in reference to things in projects she has created, yet it is about her as a person and I believe she mentioned it in passing as one of the things she found distasteful of her page.

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, I'm just curious as what that would be defined as.

emeriin Since: Jan, 2001

Forgive for butting in, but that trope example in particular is referring to the forth anniversary site movie. It's an appearance trope and I know she has Creator Backlash, but she was still playing a character there.

As the example is currently written Bare Your Midriff is used appropriately (and without creepy content)—it's describing a deliberate costume choice for a character . . .

. . . but that example has no place on this particular page. As it's describing the character of Jesu Otaku in the movie To Boldly Flee (or, to be more precise, the character JO turns into), it belongs there. Placing it on this page is clearly attaching the trope to her as a person rather than to the work where it belongs. I'll delete it accordingly.

I wouldn't call the truthfully and neutrally as it can be presented information about the messes she's caused slander, but that's just me. It was also decided to leave those examples because they pertained to things she said about works on her official twitter, and she is a critic.

Depends where it's from. If it's from posts made "in character" or an account he holds as "CR!," then it's fine. If, however, it's from something personal like a personal facebook page, then it should go.

Basically, if it's from something he did as an "internet personality" it should stay. If it's from something he did as a normal dude, it should go.

Guys let's face it, Jesu is now a "Bitch in sheep's clothing" kind of girl now. She doesn't respect people in her property and insult people who watch different shows asides anime and also nerds (like Trekkies, bronies, e.t.c) (Go look at the fan hater page if you know what I mean). She never cares about what she done and does the troll everytime . There's also a page where she almost insult transgender people in the family guy episode. Jesu will Never do her anime review again unless she's bored as hell then upload her video like she never cares. Jesu Have change, didn't she?
