Is there a particular reason why the protagonist character page(s) for this specific Persona game does not include images or tropes of the main characters' Personas, instead putting them on a separate page despite each Persona not having that many tropes?

Not that I have a particular issue with this, but on this website every single other Persona game combines them all into the same page, instead of separating them. Unless the same is done for the other 4 games, this seems a bit inconsistent.

So Kanji's got Ambiguously Gay, Ambiguously Bi, and Bi The Way listed on his sheet.

Bi The Way should definitely go, since it's "fandom speculates that..."

And I know the "Ambiguous" tropes are a mess and his sexuality is up for debate (personally, I think the game makes it rather clear he's heterosexual but just confused as teenagers are wont to be), but having them both is pretty contradictory, at least.

Well, the Ambiguous tropes are not mutually contradictory.

Just an update, how's now only got Ambiguously Bi, which I think is for the best. While his thoughts on dudes are certainly ambiguous, he clearly has the hots for Naoto, and does display attraction to Chie/Yukiko in their swimsuits, another time with Yukiko, and Chihiro.

This isn't exactly the most important topic, but I want to bring up something regarding Naoto and Kanji's voice actors. This article claims that Valerie Arem and Matt Mercer did the respective character's new lines in Golden, however, I see no evidence that this was the case. Both were not announced to be recast in Golden's lines, and no recasting was stated to be done for Naoto and Kanji until Ultimax and Q, both of which were released in 2014, two years after Golden was released. Golden was released in the same year as the original Persona 4 Arena, in 2012, and at the time, Atlus explicitly stated that only Chie and Teddie were recast, and both characters had their scripts entirely rerecorded for consistency. The anime was aired within Golden's release period in the US, as the first half was aired two months before Golden, and the second half was released after Golden's release (January 2013). Troy Baker left halfway through the anime's recording due to his honeymoon, which occurred around October of 2012, and Golden was already recorded several months prior to that. Valerie Arem was stated to not have voiced Naoto until Ultimax, which was released in 2014, again, two years after Golden was released.

I'm probably rambling too much, but point is, there is no evidence that Naoto and Kanji's V As for Ultimax/Q/DAN did their lines in Golden's new scenes. According to all sources I've found, only Teddie and Chie were recast for Golden, and both characters were stated to be rerecorded for the sake of consistency. The games' release timeframes further make such a notion questionable, as Golden was recorded before the anime (Mc Glynn was Naoto in the anime, further questioning the possibility of Arem being Naoto's VA in Golden). I'm not saying that the information is outright false, but I want to see evidence of either case being true.

I'm thinking about removing Naoto's status as a foil, at least to Rise or Chie. But while I'm at it, could she be considered a foil to Shinjiro Aragaki? Both are loners who are orphans, and both have a Team Mom aspect to them, as well as having Personas without any weaknesses. But Shinjiro is tall, and focuses on one thing and one thing only Persona-wise, while Naoto has spells across the board. Shinjiro is also tall, while Naoto is tiny.

... no.

Honestly, Foil is one of the most grossly overused tropes on the site. It's not "this character is similar... but not the same!" but "this character's purpose is to highlight aspects of another."

To be frank, I'd like to axe all the Foil entries on this page. They're overzealous misuse. Though Adachi's Foil entry is accurate, at least.

Is there a citation for Yosuke being a cut gay option? I'm not finding anything except our pages and fan speculation on the matter.

I don't know, but I heard there were voice clips and things extracted from game files that heavily indicated it. His cut romance option seems to have been common knowledge for some time now. I'd just recommend asking Atlus on Twitter or something if possible.

Small thing, but would Chick Magnet or another similar trope be applicable to Kanji? He's not on Yu's level by any stretch, but so far he's accidentally attracted a hooker, a teacher, and now Nozomi in Dancing All Night.

Please sort these tropes about Yosuke Hanamura out here by discussion rather than by editing back and forth:

  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Yosuke is always asserting his heterosexuality, going by the whole [1] accord whenever he has even the slightest of gay moments with Narukami, even though nobody ever seems to suggest it or even care. In addition to this, he often ridicules Kanji, who subsequently tries to prove his own heterosexuality to Yosuke. He is shown to still have problems with any sort of homosexuality by the events of Persona Q.
  • Heteronormative Crusader: A few instances include constantly whining to leave whenever he's in Shadow Kanji's dungeon, asking Kanji if his sexuality will be threatened during the camp trip, and hysterically freaking out when he has some mildly romantic moments with Narukami (in the anime). While the occasional Ho Yay moments he shares with Narukami is usually Played for Laughs, in Persona Q's Group Date Cafe dungeon, if you choose that "gender or age doesn't matter when it comes to true love," Yosuke will express his disapproval. Justified in his case, as his mindset originates from a society that enforces such view, prohibiting two men from getting married as an example.
Yosuke: Dude, having a dude for a destined partner is way too sad!

The first definitely applies to Yosuke, but the mention of Persona Q seems unnecessary since the game takes place, you know, before the end of P4.

The second... really seems like shoehorning by turning Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual today essentially into a subtrope of HNC. It really reads like "gay jokes = HNC" which seems counter to the trope of someone really actively fighting gay people. He really doesn't do any "crusading."

That was pretty much my feelings on the matter. It seemed to me like the guy who added the HNC trope was almost Death-Eatering Yosuke when it came to the supposed homophobia - this is the original version of the Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today? entry, before the spat -

  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Yosuke is clearly insecure about his own sexuality and will immediately assert that he didn't mean it that way whenever he says something that could even be vaguely interpreted as homosexual as well as endlessly tease Kanji about his own sexuality to feel more confident in himself. Likewise, when at the Bath House, he'll constantly complain that he's not into that kind of thing, despite no one ever suggesting that he is. Justified in that it's pretty typical teen behavior.

His first move was deleting the last line, then when I re-added it, he modified the whole entry to be more... hostile, I guess? It was kinda strange.

Readded it, with a minor tweak.

I think the "Justified" bit got pulled because people knee-jerkingly assume it means "oh yeah, it's totally cool that Yosuke" acts like that so I think my edit makes it clear it's just saying that it's common behavior, but not necessarily acceptable.

Pulled this again:

Yosuke:

  • Non-Idle Rich: Works at Junes, which has made his family quite wealthy in Inaba since his father moved them there.

Yukiko:

  • Non-Idle Rich: She may be rich but Yukiko is certainly no brat; she works day in and day out in preparation of taking over her family's business. From just a small tidbit of what we've seen of her on the job, it's not an easy one.

Because they're not shown as "rich" in the sense this trope entails. The trope is about a wealthy character who doesn't need to work working a "lower" job anyway. Yukiko's family runs a prestigious inn (thus making her The Ojou), but that's just it, they run the inn. If they stopped working, then they'd be in dire straits. In fact there are scenes in the game where she's worried the inn will go under. Ditto Yosuke and Junes. His family doesn't own Junes (even this location), they just manage it. Yosuke wouldn't constantly complain about money if he were rich in the sense of the trope.

Depending on what Mitsuru says in the art book I might consider it, but given in-game information, they really don't count.

For the record, even with my rudimentary knowledge of Persona, I don't think they fit and shouldn't be added back. Princess Amagi was a song off of the OST, and the Prince of Junes was a throwaway joke at the end of P4.

This is all probably moot anyway because the person who keeps readding it was suspended, but still.

The Messiah is no longer a trope. Please readd under an appropriate trope:

  • The Messiah/The Paragon: Yu Narukami helps almost everyone he meets overcome their deep-seated psychological issues, convinces his friends to spare the man who almost killed his cousin/little sister figure, and saves the world thanks to a literal application of the Power of Friendship. Attention is drawn to this by Igor and Margaret in the anime, who refer to Narukami as a "chosen one".

Added names of the stage production actors, along with images. I can do the same for the other pages, where actors are available/were present in the stage productions, if interest is shown.

The following is the subject of an edit war:

Voiced by: Romi Park (Japanese), Mary Elizabeth Mc Glynn (English)

This is TV Tropes, not Wikipedia. Voice acters are extra information that we have for fun, not something on mission. If they're going to be a problem then we can not have them on this page at all.

Work out what that entry should be here like reasonable people and then return it rather than turning our pages into a battleground. Any further edit warring will be met with edit suspensions.

I can see the reasoning behind your deletion of it, but at the same time, at least some of that information is known for sure. The edit war is a result of the English VA being unknown; Romi Park has been known to be Naoto's Japanese VA for a long while. Shouldn't it be fine, then, if we include just the Japanese VA?

Shouldn't the instances of Red Baron only be under the Persona 4 Arena article? I don't recall the trope occuring in this game.

Direct sequels usually have to share a character sheet, since most of the tropes would be redundant. We could do something like on Characters.Final Fantasy XIII, where there's a hard split for tropes in the game, tropes in the anime, and tropes in the sequel, though. Might make things more clear and organized.

Actually, I'm asking because Characters.Persona 4 Arena already exists and lists separate tropes for all the main characters again. I imagine all the Red Baron references were added here at the time of the trailers, when we had no separate character sheet. So, I guess they were all left here?

That seems a bit redundant. It seems hard to believe that the tropes for the characters have changed enough to merit a separate character sheet, but meh.

They're not an example of Red Baron either way, since that's an in-Universe trope.
