Ask the Tropers:
resolved Troper unilaterally taking down images
I have reason to believe Wilben unilaterally and prematurely took down several images as per the current Moments Images cleanup crowner. Should they be restored for at least the next few days? And what, if anything, should we do with Wilben?
Edited by JHD0919resolved CoolNickNack (again)
In a previous query I reported Cool Nick Nack for continuing to make Example Indentation errors despite notifiers, and apparently they were suspended. However they're still editing and still making indentation mistakes, in particular tacking on "sub-bullets" like replies or extensions of the previous example. And it's not as if they don't know how to indent properly either, as shown by this edit.
resolved Not sure if it's an edit war, but...
DR34DN0UGHT has added an iffy piece of text to a Tainted by the Preview on this page, then added a similar-sounding paragraph after much of the entry was cut down for being a ROCEJ violation.
resolved Which folder
I'm trying to figure out where to crosswick an entry for The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong to when it pertains specifically to the donghua. Should it still go under the Literature folder on the trope page or under Asian Animation?

resolved Why is Tzadikim Nistarim listed in JustForFun?
Tzadikim Nistarim strikes me as a fairly regular, non-typically-comedic trope. So... why? Did I come late to the joke or something?
resolved Editor using discussion pages as a forum
Itsnouse19518505268 has left a lot of comments on discussion pages, hardly any of which have to do with editing the pages, they are mostly giving their opinion on entries found on these pages.
I don't know if this breaks any rules, so I haven't contacted them about it, but it is taking away from these page's purpose.
resolved UPDATE work pages with no examples
My apologies, but I accidentally locked the original ATT: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=133619&type=att
Turns out, Toy Storyin Space Play Set DID respond to my notifier when I sent it on the same day, but for whatever reason I did not receive a notification. This was on the 21st. I saw it just now.
Aside from that sudden notification issue, their reply was not helpful at all. Instead of telling me anything specific, they said that it's "somehow their fault". I'm pretty sure quoting the full line is against the rules, but anyway they made no reference to correcting anything in particular.
Now what?
Edited by Lermisresolved Is WetTShirtContest a unisex or gendered trope?
The description of the main Wet T-Shirt Contest trope page doesn't list it as a gendered trope. However, the Playing With page for Wet T-Shirt Contest has a Gender-Inverted entry that lists men being in the contest, suggesting that the trope is Always Female, and some examples have followed suit (I think) by listing male examples as "inverted".
I've been reviewing a potential discussed example and would like to ask for clarification for whether the trope is gendered, especially since its Super-Trope of Sexy Soaked Shirt is unisex; it's because if the trope is unisex, then I think the Playing With page and the examples that follow its listing conventions should be edited to reflect that.
resolved work pages with no examples
Yesterday Toy Storyin Space Play Set created two work pages with zero examples: Fanfic.A Ghostto Remember You By and Fanfic.TONIGHT Restart From This Night.
I sent them a notifier yesterday that said that work pages need to have examples, and that the name for the first fic should be Fanfic.A Ghost To Remember You By as opposed to what it is now.
They fixed the ghost thing, but somehow it still reads as "A Ghostto Remember You By" in the page, and they haven't added any examples. In addition, they added the fics to a few indexes already.
I checked the rest of their edit history and it seems fine (no issues pop up) so asking ATT may be premature, but I've never seen anyone create a work page with NO examples whatsoever.
resolved Nononsensecapeesh
...Is a troper that keeps violating our editing policies, even after notifiers (and one attempt to reach out on a thread).
Primarily, the notifiers have been about ZCE and indentation. And yet, it has not made a difference, at least when it comes to proper example context (indentation they seem to have gotten a grasp on). But the issues run deeper than this. In the past few days alone, their examples also contain:
- Speculation and arguable examples, especially when it comes to the balloon man.
- Some slightly awkward grammar
- Misplaced examples
- General trope misuse.
The time I tried to ping them to a thread was over a unilateral and improperly split character's page, which they also never cleaned or indexed. They ignored my attempt to reach out. It's also worth noting that my most recent notifiers to them were in March.
resolved YMMV pages for franchises with a list of YMMV pages for other works. Are such lists necessary?
I've noticed that there are several YMMV pages for franchises that contain a list containing pages to other works in the franchise, such as YMMV.Batman, YMMV.Marvel Cinematic Universe, YMMV.Superman, YMMV.Puyo Puyo, etc. However, I question the need for such lists. A part of me can understand that maybe they provide a useful link to YMMV tropes for specific works, but on the other hand, I feel all they really do is clutter up the page. Especially with long-running franchises like Batman and Superman, who have so many works that their franchise pages are just indexes for those works. But what do you think?
Edited by Tylerbear12resolved Suggesting new features?
Where do we go to suggest new changes and features for the site? I’m interested in proposing a “No trailer citation” notifier.
resolved The Ron the Death Eater example from YMMV/SonicX Anime
I wanted to make this discussion because I saw that the Ron the Death Eater example for Chris Thorndyke was deleted. Here it is.
- Ron the Death Eater: Chris Thorndyke is often viewed by fans as a selfish, spoiled brat, who's life isn't all that bad as he claims it is, and being more obsessive over Sonic than Amy is. However, Chris isn't really a bad kid. His whiny moments like in episode 49 were due to his fear of loneliness, which kept him from handling the situation of Sonic returning to his world more positively, especially since the news sprung upon him unexpectedly and was pretty impactful for him, and he was acting more traumatic and in denial than like a spoiled brat. His clinginess to Sonic and his fear of loneliness is due to being neglected by his parents since he was little, as he had to spend most of his time alone inside his huge and empty mansion without friends or siblings, making his life feel very empty and he didn't want to lose the one person who filled that void with his friendship and adventures. This also applies to when Chris shut down the portal to stop Sonic from going back to his world. Chris didn't shut down the portal because he's a spoiled brat. He did it because his emotions and fears got the best of him, that he made a reckless choice without thinking clearly.
I actually agree with this example, but it was deleted because apparently it was added by a ban evader. I am for adding it back because although Chris is not my favorite character of this show (due to some issues with how he was written), I do agree that fans do tend to demonize this kid.
I noticed the page for Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea goes by a translation of the film's Japanese name, when in English it's known as just Ponyo. TV Tropes has a policy of going by a work's official English name whenever possible. The normal solution would of course be to manually change everything myself, but I don't know if I'll have the time or resources to do everything. Is it possible to tell a moderator to do this for me? Thanks in advance.
I should also mention the film has a bunch of subpages that go by Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and need changing as well.
