open What is the most Philosophical Movie in your opinion? Film
Just name the most philosophical movie you can think of and why.
openWhat category are pirates, ninjas, samurai, spacemen, knights, greasers, spies, etc? Film
These are all the roles characters may take in any medium, but its not a trope nor a stereotype since its not involving the character's personality, but instead a literal description of what they are. Woody and Buzz are Cowboy and Spacemen, or Cowboys vs Aliens with Cowboy and Aliens. In videogame or RP Gs these would usually be classified as classes but I'm not sure what the "term" is.
openUseful Notes page on character rights? Film
I'm not quite sure how to write this one, but should we have under the Film or Comics folder a Useful Notes page on character rights for things like movies, TV, cartoons etc. to avoid making Exiled from Continuity a Wall of Text and talking about the topic in general.
I know there's Exiled from Continuity as a main trope page, but this is more of a guide on how character rights work and negotiations.
I'm not as much of an expert on this as some comic-book fans on here but have the idea in broad strokes, but would welcome any suggestions on this.
openBlue Links that go Nowhere Film
Hey, on the Greenland page, there are lots of words that are linked to google pages. But the odd thing is that I can't find them in the editing page. In their places are spaces. Is something wrong? Did someone do something to the page?
Edited by TheGoddessIsDeadopenScript Namespace question Film
I recently made a page for Super Mario Bros. (1991), an early draft of what would become Super Mario Bros, which falls under the Script namespace since it was never actually produced. Under what folder would it go under for cross-wicking?
open“Role model becomes the villain” in animated films Film
In at least six major computer-animated films (Up, Big Hero 6, Boss Baby, Coco and Turbo), the protagonist idolizes some kind of public figure, but their role model is eventually revealed to be the antagonist. It’s usually a plot device in which the protagonist overcomes the disappointment to become more confident in themselves and their own abilities.
Any insight as to why this plot twist is so prevalent in computer-animated films? Much appreciated, thanks
Edited by KyleneuopenNoticeable removals from Headscracters page Film
For some reason Troper LibbyBubblles has been straight out deleting Headscratchers without reason on pages SuicideSquad2016 and Monster High. Revert needed?
Edited by TuvokopenSafe to make the Godzilla vs. Kong page? Film
We got a release date and some TV spot/online commercials. Safe to make the page now or hold off till the trailer release on Sunday? https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/GodzillaVsKong
openDo we really need a "Full Cast" section for MCU films? Film
Troper The Extractor has taken to unilaterally adding a section to all the MCU films called "Full Cast" containing a list of the actor and the character they play.
First off it's not really a "full cast" but more a "main cast" list and second do we really such thing?
It's going to make the MCU films formatted differently than other films and there's already a really good website getting full cast/crew info called IMDB.
Edited by rva98014openCut List Error Film
So I was putting Nightmare Fuel page of The Company of Wolves on the cut list and see the Recent cut page. It says Article was cut but somehow the page is still here. I tried to put it the cut list to fix it (I've make sure I put correct spelling of the namespace and movie name) but it didn't work. Should I go to bug report?
openDoes this qualify as a TropeBreaker Film
Upon rewatching The Mist, I've realised something. The entire premise of the evil cult that forms through the story and preaching of their leader hinge almost entirely on the fact the story is set in place with Protestant majority and the concept of predestination is not only a tenant, but actively used, both for the story itself and the in-story cult. If the story was set in any other background, the entire premise of the cult as "God will only save a handful of chosen ones, and everyone not worthy will go straight to hell, so prove your worth" falls flat on its face, because it just won't work out if you don't, say, have the story set in Maine.
But does it qualify if the location or social background of the story was changed as a Trope Breaker? I was thinking about this exact same story playing out in my own country, which is Catholic, and the type of person that's best described as a local equivalent of a fundie. And they would preach completely different things - assuming they wouldn't just blame it on Jews, then simply pray in the corner to pass time, which would be far more likely than anything else.
openTrope examples on Nightmare Fuel page. Film
I was on a Nightmare Fuel page of The Company of Wolves and I found some trope examples that was copy and paste from the main page. Which I found it strange and weird. So what should I do with it? Cut it or edit it?
Edited by BubblepigopenWill This Film Have It's Own Page? Film
Will Nature Unleashed: Volcano (The Volcano Disaster 2005) have it's own page like most films? I've always wondered and originally I wanted to make the page myself, but I'm not that great with tropes and have only have done small additions and edits to a few films so far (even though I come to Tvtropes almost everyday to view tropes, pages, and films that I like so I can have some good laughs and make some stories and novels of my own with those tropes).
openWMG For Actors Film
Samuel L. Jackson has a WMG page with no index; do we allow those for actors?
openPossible Biased Edting Film
Found this while browsing Role-Ending Misdemeanor/Film:
- Neither Amber Heard nor Johnny Depp came out of their tumultuous marriage with great career prospects. Heard saw her film career come to a temporary halt after she was charged with smuggling their dogs into Australia. She pleaded guilty to falsifying quarantine papers and apologized for the incident in 2016, and her career soon recovered. They divorced later that year. However, the fallout of said divorce lasted for several years. An audio recording of her bragging about her physically and emotionally abusing Depp was leaked and damaged her reputation to the point where a petition was made to get her fired from the Aquaman sequel. Matters went downhill, possibly even rock-bottom, later in the year when, during the trial for Depp's lawsuit against The Sun, Heard's ex-assistant accused Heard of taking her story about being raped in Brazil and twisting it for her own use in her witness statement. Although his career had certainly sputtered out some following the article’s publication, he had somewhat recovered. When the judge ruled against him in the case in November 2020 (he believed 12 of 14 incidents met the civil case requirement for domestic violence, a ruling Depp plans to appeal), he was forced to resign from the Fantastic Beasts series a few weeks into filming the upcoming third movie since the case had brought the story back into focus and he was know labeled for sure as a "wife beater" (though Depp still maintains his innocence). Mads Mikkelsen was quickly cast in his place as Big Bad Grindelwald. However, Heard’s role in Aquaman remains uncertain due to the aforementioned audio leak. Another question mark on her end is that the case also brought to light an incident of alleged perjury on her end about the dog smuggling, for which she is under investigation by the Australian agriculture ministry. If she's charged, it'd be a violation of the non prosecution deal she signed and she'd likely not be able to step foot in the country where Aquaman is being filmed.
So far as I know, Heard's career isn't in any particular danger yet, the petition to get her fired has no more force than any other petition on the Internet, and the idea that she might be permanently banned from Australia over a four-year-old dog-smuggling charge seems highly speculative. Plus, while it claims that both Heard and Depp have faced consequences, it doesn't spend nearly as much time talking about why Depp got fired. Should someone rewrite this piece?
Edited by StrixObscuroopenSpoilers on Film.{{Labyrinth}} Film
Hello. Recently, there was a note regarding that all spoilers on Film.Labyrinth were to be unmarked as per this discussion.
That said, should we unmark all spoilers for the page or should we leave them marked?
Need help for the work Film/The Hood Trilogy as both of the pages I made for the sequels were taken down before I could add any additional tropes or descriptions and without notice. I also need to create a new page for Film/Brotherhood as that is the name of the second sequel of the film.
