Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

[up] Did that.

Did anyone sandbox the accumulated changes to The Bible the way I requested?

[up] Well, the changes are generally nothing too big and editting the page bits by bits would be the best...Then again, it would be too much unnecessary and boring works for you guys (I suppose editting locked pages are more complicated than editting pages that are not?).

Oh, and there is no sandbox page for the character sheet for The Bible, as far as my searching ability goes.

[up]Use Sandbox.Characters The Bible.

Also, can The Bible be moved to Literature. The Bible and be re locked?

On The Bible, please add A Child Shall Lead Them under the Trope Namers.

The Magic The Gathering example on the Griefer page needs to be cut as Square Peg Round Trope. It's not griefing if you're playing a competitive game and using the cards for exactly what they're intended by the designers.

[up] Seems like a perfectly good They Plotted A Good Waste example to me. Not seeing an issue with it.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

It's just resource denial, a strategy which has been part of the game since the first set was released. You might piss the opponent off a bit by doing it, but that's a side-effect rather than the main goal. Griefing in a game of Magic would involve throwing your opponent's cards around the room or, in a tournament, deliberately letting your clock run down just to keep everyone waiting.

You don't have to break the rules of the game to be a griefer. Most griefing is done via legitimate game mechanics. The point of griefing is that you're playing to prevent other people from having fun. Resource denial is a legitimate game mechanic and can be used legitimately, but it's also a powerful tool for griefing.*

Like I said, They Plotted a Perfectly Good Waste; Word of God backs it up, so it should be good.

In PvE games and Wide-Open Sandbox games such as Minecraft, where it's expected that other players will not sabotage your work, you're right: griefing can and and does involve legitimate mechanics. The same can be said for team-based games, so it is possible to grief a multiplayer game of Magic by deliberately screwing up your teammate's gameplan.

In PvP games, however, trying to win the game is not griefing, so the only way to grief such a game is to go beyond the workings of the game itself and simply be a Jerkass.

As for the Word of God quote, I think he's misusing the term.

Having read some of those statements, I'm inclined to agree - he's talking about griefing as general motivation, not in the specific sense we use it.

Request for Complete Monster - add to the hottip attached to the criteria please.

"The YMMV banner on this trope DOES NOT give you leave to ignore these requirements. It's there because things like Alternate Character Interpretation and the debated nature of Evil make examples contentious."

Request for False Rape Accusation to be added to the locked page club.

It was discussed in the YKTTW and decided that it was trope-able, but would need locking on launch due having managed to have a minor flame war even in YKTTW stages over shoehorning and soapboxing.

To the bottom of the False Rape Accusation trope description, right above No Real Life Examples Please, please add:

See also either Frameup or Abomination Accusation Attack, depending on how the false rape accusation is done.

On Evil Overlord List Cellblock A, can the words "the prisoner is perched above the lintel waiting to strike them with it" from item 140 be potholed to the newly-created Fakeout Escape?

On My Immortal, A Day in the Limelight, A Date With Rosie Palms, and An Offer You Can't Refuse are improperly alphabetized.

132 is the rudest number.
