Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[up] While the Big scenes were some of the funniest in the Grumps walkthrough, the game, despite the Final Boss having Awesome Music, the game, at least the DX version, seems so glitchy!

[up] Having played most of the Sonic games from Adventure onwards on the main consoles, I can safely tell you that every Sonic game is glitchy except for Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. [lol]

The discussion on Frakes appears to have died down in a 4-3 vote. It depends, is a one point difference enough to keep a villain on the trope?

Okay that's 12 [tup] to Krane, here is my first write up. Its a little long, but its a start:

  • Lab Rats: Victor Krane was by far the show’s most dangerous and psychotic villain. An insane and power hungry billionaire, he initially worked Douglas in his plans to brainwash Adam, Bree and Chase. Krane also took Douglas’s technology and upgraded it providing himself with vast powers. After Chase manged to resist the programming, Krane immediately attempted to force his siblings kill him. Krane then sets his goals on murdering Adam, Bree and Chase simply because he couldn’t cope with any rivals to his power existing, causing Douglas to turn on him. Krane tried to strangle Douglas for his betrayal, and kidnaps Leo and Tasha locking them in a giant oven to try and force Donald to give him Adam, Bree and Chase. His attempts failing, Krane turned to building himself a bionic army, growing around a hundred kids in his lab and experimenting upon them to give them bionic abilities. He kept them under control through brainwashing, and disregarded them to point of not even giving them names. Convinced his new power made him superior to ordinary people he tried to conquer the earth with his bionic army and plans to brainwash all humanity. After his seeming death it was discovered he had installed a virus with all his former soldiers so that in the event he died they would all die to, simply because his ego wouldn’t allow them to live any life that didn’t benefit him. Returning in Season Four, its revealed survived there previous battle and was rescued by his new partner-in crime Dr. Gao. Having infiltrated Donald’s colonized planet, him and Gao begin phase one of their new plan by kidnapping and brainwashing the fifty colonists, along with Donald and Tasha and turning them into a new army of mindless bionic soldiers to rule the Earth. But not before launching a missile at the Earth that would wipe out all life so Krane could rebuild everything his own image. Once thwarted, Krane hijacks a colony space pod and attacks a ship that the Lab Rats and colonists are on declaring “If I can't have my bionic army then I’m taking you out with them.”

And a thanks to the user, username2527 for helping with writing it.

@username2527: No. Usually it has to be roughly a four or five-point difference or more. Right now it's cutting it too close.

Regarding the Buffyverse page... does it make sense to pothole all that stuff in Angelus's entry to episodes he appears in? Why not direct readers to relevant tropes instead?

On another note, if I'm not mistaken the current pic of Jack Welker in the Image Links tab shows him executing a rival criminal. Certainly brutal, but not really unexpected in a show filled with meth dealers, drug kingpins, and contract killers.

No it doesn't. I agree with you.

Could victor Krane from lab rats count? He seems heinous enough.

Reading through Victor Krane's rapsheet again....Damn! At the start of the third season he wasn't too much beyond generic villainy but season four made him much, much worse. Don't get me wrong even then e was pretty irredeemable but season four has him take leap after leap over the MEH.

Any more votes for the Motel Bates image?

And, speaking of images, I have a bit of a problem with the Dragon Ball pic with Super Buu. This has been raised before, but the pic is him saying something, not doing something. He's saying something evil, but wasn't the purpose of the pic to be them doing something evil? Saying something doesn't really have the same impact as doing it, because when you see the action itself, it shows just how cruel they can be.

If anyone has no problem, I'd gladly search for another possible replacement pic.

  • Here's a larger version of Cell. I like that better than Buu.
  • So Hazanko and the Rose examples are now certified cuts?
  • Frakes: Killing kid heroes by shooting them? Fairly standard villainy. Feeding people to sharks? Not so much.
  • As for Angelus, there might be a workaround, where we have TheTropenote .
  • TV Image replacements.
  • Incidentally, here's what I use for word count.
