I agree on removing the natter, though extricating it from the discussion on who wrote what might be beyond any of us...
My favourite moments?
Awesome - Dynamic Entry #2. Falling through glass suspended in the air wearing a Badass Longcoat and with a hostage? Brilliant.
Heartwarming - The boardgames.
Funny - Haruhi's first declaration she wanted to take Kanae home with her.
Fetish Fuel? How's that a moment? Eh, I haven't been paying attention to any of that... but the ability to squeeze an entire YEAR into a few seconds could have some... interesting effects. Yuki seems to have worked that out.
Out of curiosity, can anyone think of a better way to describe this? We're still using my original description and that's... bad. Especially with all the things added on.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Quotes. Haven't seen quote boxes like that for ages. Not on this forum, this is the first time I've come on here...
But I got sidetracked.
Anyway...
What I meant is that extricating the natter from the guess on who wrote which of the quotes at the beginning of each chapter would be confusing. I'm not good at clarity.
'This' being Kyon: Big Damn Hero. I don't feel that the description does something of this magnitude justice. I was half-expecting the page to be ignored and certainly expecting the description to be changed... but it's still in use, with several additions.
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.(Look up the "Show Markup Help" at the top left. Everything should be there, and most if not all of it works in the rest of the wiki, too.)
Well, I admit that the article description could use some expansion, but there's nothing actually wrong with it for now beyond being a relative understatement.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Oh, I didn't want to use one. I just haven't seen any for ages. Concentration isn't my best ability.
Understatement may be better, but calling that an understatement is an understatement in itself. And now I'm overusing the word understatement.
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.Hmmm... I've wondered how Kyon would react if Haruhi were to learn about her powers after seeing the series. Would I be correct to assume that he's The Kid with the Leash in this particular fan series?
Discover the rest as the game progresses.^ This isn't the Haruhi Suzumiya thread. This is a thread for a Haruhi Suzumiya Fan Fic, by the name of Kyon: Big Damn Hero (link at the top). Pay attention to the OP; it has the word fanfic in the very first line.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. At the beginning maybe but Character Development and plot make that less of a case a few chapters in. It's actually handled quite well and very Genre Savvy.
Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally.I LOVE THIS.
My FF.net accountMeh, and me not in range of a good internet connection this week. *makes a Kyon-facepalm*
Not me at least. *reads the No-Sell part on the K:BDH main page* *HSQ skyrockets*

Discover the rest as the game progresses.Phone-posting isn't fun.
Awesome: Haruhi's Bavarian Fire Drill, she even managed to get Watanabe and Yamane in. She may have powers but she doesn't need them.
Funny: Koizumi's reaction to Haruhi's emotions when ple was kissing Kyon, as Tsuruya can confirm.
Heartwarming: a lot to choose from... Either Mikuru's mail to Kyon, implicitly forgiving him; or Mikuru(big)'s "World of Cardboard" Speech and her whole meeting that day, foreshadowing how the ...time limit :-[ relationships between members will end, Nakama and polyamorous.
Bonus: Biggest shock/surprise: when Haruhi first considered the Tenchi Solution as a real possibility.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerAwesome: By character.
- Kyon: Going Dissonant Serenity Tranquil Fury on Yamane. No questions asked.
- Yuki: The 24 Yakuza Curb-Stomp Battle... for now. I get the feeling that she's going to get something even better in the future.
- Haruhi: Chapter 31's No-Sell. Yeah, she did a CMOA that she's not aware of.
I'll give the rest once I actually get around to them.
@Filraen: Fridge Brilliance, huh? I actually guessed it immediately once I got to the part where Haruhi told Koizumi to use his ESP. I was thinking "Uh, Haruhi, he needs Closed Spa- Wait, what am I thinking? This is Haruhi! She'll just ignore that limitation. "
^^ I didn't know that fanfics are also referred to as "fan series". "Fan series" is not only too vague, it also implies that you're talking about a fanfic franchise, because that's the only way I've ever saw the term "series" being used in fanfic community.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I have a different theory: Yuki unlocked Koizumi's ESP for use outside Closed Space. How she could know that exactly? Reading Haruhi's memetic link.
The thing that worries of about the No Sell theory is it implies Yuki can't control Haruhi's power completely.
edited 16th Sep '10 3:25:14 PM by Filraen
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailer^ Of course Yuki can't control it completely; otherwise, the Closed Spaces in early chapters wouldn't have manifested in the first place, and Haruhi wouldn't be able to apply her Neuro-Vault Memory Gambit on her own, while trapped in a Closed Space that is completely isolated from the "real world" in which Yuki is still located.
And technically speaking, your proposed interpretation still equates to "No-Sell by Haruhi" *; she just relegates the actual execution process to Yuki with Kyon's permission, and Kyon already gave Yuki express permission to disregard anything that she believes is bad in Chapter 2. It's not unreasonable that she inferred from that permission that she also has permission to execute any order/wish/"programme" that she deems to be necessary now (like a life-or-death situation) without waiting for Kyon's actual permission.
Yuki: "Thank you."

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Love this fanfic so much! My favourite line so far is one of Koizumi's, oddly enough, just because it's exactly what I would have said in his position (I was thinking it at the moment I read it, which made be fall off my chair with laughter. My brother now thinks I'm crazy). From Chapter 26:

Saw that on the WMG page. It does seem a little incomplete (Kyon DOES have one more weapon) but I have no idea about a suitable name for the beam sabre. Hmmm...
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls.I got to say I do like the idea of Kyon naming a weapon after Altaïr as it also ties into the site with the Grand Unifying Guesses.
Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally.^^^^ That's because I believe Haruhi destroyed Closed Space but didn't change Koizumi's ESP. Since he needs to be in one to use his powers he was effectively depowered.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailer^ Closed Space does not even exist until Haruhi's frustration and/or boredom subconsciously generate them; they're currently only absent because Haruhi's frustration/boredom hasn't hit high enough levels required for their generation, though that may change in the future.
The bottom line is, the notion that her Neuro-Vault Memory Gambit resulted in their destruction is meaningless, because you cannot destroy what does not (currently) exist. They are a result of Haruhi's lack of effective control on her Reality Warping power combined with that same power being intrinsically affected by her general mental state (does that count as a form of Psychoactive Powers?).
Oh, and "destroying Closed Space" is basically what the Kyon, Koizumi, Mikuru and Yuki had done several times in the past whenever a Closed Space manifested - by destroying the Shinjin that simultaneously manifests within it.
edited 18th Sep '10 10:51:22 AM by MarqFJA
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I thought that Haruhi effectively made it so that Closed Space could never again form?
As for the Memory Gambit... has anyone worked out why she did that, yet? I can't work out what the hell it's meant to be implying from the trope/K:BDH pages...
Now collecting White-Haired Pretty Girls. You just answered your own question: The Memory Gambit was to prevent Closed Space from manifesting again every time Haruhi's frustration/boredom hits critical mass, specifically because:
- She has an outlet in the form of Mind over Matter.
- She "remembers" that Yuki had made it so her Reality Warping is fully under control via the "management by proxy" deal; this takes away the Blessed with Suck anxiety over her power going out of control, which removes a major source of frustration from the equation.
Okay, hands up who found Yuki's first kiss in ch. 13 really, really sexy? 'Cause I did.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
