To-do list:
- Since Panty Shot is now a Definition-Only Page, examples are not allowed and must be removed, but references to the term can stay. Sandbox.Wick Cleaning Shot is being used to list which namespaces have already been cleaned.
Panty Shot seems to be suffering from an assortment of problems at the moment. It's defined as being a gratuitous shot of a (female) character's panties/underwear explicitly for Fanservice reasons, but it has a tendency to be used for "any time underwear are visible" or non fanservice underwear displays (ie: Comedic Underwear Exposure). There's also an issue of it attracting ZCEs, likely out of fear that going into detail will sound creepy or weird (which it can be at times).
The wick check gave results of...
- Correct Use 12/51: 23.5%
- Misuse: Panties/underwear visible without being fanservicey 8/51: 15.7%
- Other misuse 2/51: 3.9%
- ZCE 19/51: 37.3%
- Unclear/Other/Pothole 10/ 51 19.6%
And I was being generous with correct use too, if we cut correct use down to only correct onpage examples rather than correct uses of it with clear context as potholes, it goes down to only 7 correct uses ( 13.7%), and if we include only completely played straight examples, it goes down to only 4 (7.8%) correct uses.
I'm not sure exactly what fix will solve the issues here, myself... but there are definitely several problems plaguing the trope at the moment. Perhaps a rename to emphasize the gratuity would help? (Gratuitous Panty Shot?)

So, hi.
I noticed a lot of edits on the spanish side of this place, and came to this thread. I didnt come to fight, but I do have a question: if Panty Shot is definitions only, and the few examples in the spanish side were totally deleted, there is a reason to keep the trope?
As I see it, its a trope without examples, and the pages where the examples appear are gone. It looks like that the trope its just there, taking space in some sort of limbo.
I recognize that one example was a ZCE, but what about the others? They need to be reworked? Or need to be under another trope?
I read the whole thread and couldnt find an answer for this case.

The end of Panty Shot page should be self-explanatory, along with the pinned header here. It's been turned from a trope into a terminology, so all examples should either be removed or moved to other tropes if an editor can think of any.

Got a question. From Manga.Dream Eater Merry, the subbullets in this set are basically passing off a Panty Shot example as another trope. Not a single mention of an actual Magic Skirt anywhere.
- Magic Skirt: For all the fanservice of Merry's skimpier-than-normal attire, the show is mostly uninterested in panty shots.
- Yui Konagi,Engi's vessel. When Yumeji does a diving save for a doll she drops, he saves the doll, but catches a glimpse. The audience also gets a peek in the manga.
- Played with in the manga by villain "Maze" Landsborough. At one point he winds up on the floor between Merry's feet, looking up; we see stripes reflected in his one eye, but not from her stockings. Yoshitake Ushiki's inventiveness and subtlety - establishing what kind of panties the heroine wears WITHOUT a single panty shot - is to be admired.
- We get another brief one in volume five. Hey, when you've got Stripperific cat girls fighting, you're bound to get at least one.

After randomly picking Panty Shot to work on next, it seems I have screwed myself over and accidentally edit warred on pages where Yindee deleted and then restored Panty Shot wicks. In my defense, it was only 5 pages and one of them isn't supposed to exist anymore. Is it too much to ask not to get suspended over an honest mistake?
This has raised another concern in me though, because I checked several work pages where Panty Shot was likely to be listed as an example and the wicks were all in descriptions. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack; hundreds of pages will still be left having Panty Shot wicks in descriptions, so unless someone memorizes all those pages, how are we going to know when cleanup is done?

The thing is I still feel like that would make it difficult to find when someone is incorrectly using Panty Shot as a trope.

The only thing disallowed is direct examples; we can still reference that Panty Shot exists.
As for how we'll know, well... that's why most threads like these keep a namespace cleanup record. Perhaps we should also try keeping a record of how many wicks each namespace has after being cleaned.

I think for pages with a lot of wicks total and several that won't be cut, it's helpful to record progress in a sandbox, including pages skipped.

- Battle Game in 5 Seconds: Tamer and Chaster: Downplayed since skimpily dressed characters are still front and center, but the anime removes every blatant Panty Shot from the manga. Yes it's a pothole, but the pothole makes it clear that this would be a correct use.
- Video Game/IMGCM: Costume Porn: One of the foundational pillars of the game is the collection of dresses for your magical girls to wear, with each dress granting her a separate moveset and elemental affinity. These come from gacha rolls and limited time events in, and include, but are not limited to: police uniforms, Oni costumes, cheerleader costumes, swimsuits, labcoats, pirate captain dresses, bride gowns, etc. All together there is a dizzying variety of what the girls can end up wearing. Many (though not all) costumes can get fairly revealing thanks to Vapor Wear, general stripperiffic designs and opportunities for Panty Shots. Another pothole but it does clarify that it's meant to be for fanservice.
- Dungeons & Dragons (1983): Fanservice: Sheila has a gratuitous Panty Shot when Hank swings her up onto the back of his horse in the first episode, "Night of No Tomorrow". Of course there's Diana's Fur Bikini in every episode. Correct use... but the characters in question are 13 and 14 respectively... ew...
- DistractedByTheSexy.Anime And Manga: A scene in the manga has Keitaro distracted from a Panty Shot of a random girl before he takes a train... and gets a headbutt on the closed door! Seems to fit, another pothole though
- Gate Keepers: Panty Shot: In the very last scene of the last episode: as Shun and Ruriko stand together watching a sunset, Ruriko's skirt blows in the wind and the camera twice gets a clear view of white panties. Seems to be a clear case.
- Alex Spider: Panty Shot: In Alex Spider VS SMG4: Star Wars - The Meme Empire, the gang's ship is hit by SMG4's Star Destroyer, pushing it up to lightspeed. As a result of everyone having to hold onto something to stay in place, Alex gets quite the look up Asuka's skirt. (the viewer doesn't see anything though) The action even pauses to emphasize it! The audience doesn't get to see it... but I think this qualifies?
- FunnyAneurysmMoment.Anime And Manga: One episode of the 2003 ADV Films release of Najica Blitz Tactics features a legendary alcohol-fueled DVD Commentary by voice actors Andy McAvin and Mike Kleinhenz. At one point, the show's constant Fanservice and panty shots prompt Kleinhenz to jokingly remark, "Oooh, my heart, my heart can't take it!" On July 11th, 2008, Mike Kleinhenz passed away at the age of 56 due to a fatal heart attack. Pothole that refers to the panty shots as fanservice, but I'm torn on even keeping this as correct use, will ask about in the thread before I finalize the check.
- Lost in Translation (2003): Panty Shot: Charlotte as seen in the very first shot of the film lying on the bed before the title of the movie fades in. Should be fixed up a bit but the Fanservice entry higher up on the page clarifies this is a fanservicey use of the trope, so it keeps.
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: Panty Shot: Surprisingly averted. Makoto goes tumbling a lot, but the viewer never gets a shot of her undergarments. The movie in general does not concern itself with fanservice. Correct Aversion, but I'm not sure it really needs to be noted on the page if that's the case.
- How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend: Panty Shot: Several. Megumi has a stealth one, while the other girls have very detailed and pointlessly well animated panty flash scenes. Proper use as the example notes the gratuity of the scenes.
- HEX: Panty Shot: Two utterly gratuitous ones in quick succession when Thelma is sabotaging the electrical socket in Cassie's room Anemic but does establish gratuity, which is key for the trope.
- Darwin Carmichael Is Going to Hell: Panty Shot: Tends to happen with Ella. The fan service is toned down by the use of Unmoving Plaid. So, downplayed fanservice? Should be okay?
- Fujiko Fujio: Naked People Are Funny: If a girl, she'll usually be prone to a Panty Shot. If a boy, he'll be seen naked all through. And it's usually with good, inexplicable reason. Naked People Are Funny is a comedy trope, not a fanservice trope.
- Characters.Airplane Panty Shot: The girl scout's undies are briefly exposed as they are tossed around during their fight in the bar. The scene in question is mostly played for comedy rather than fanservice.
- Recap.The Amazing Worldof Gumball S 1 E 2 The Responsible: Panty Shot: Anais's underwear is briefly visible when she points out she isn't wearing a diaper like Gumball and Darwin tried to get her to wear. Comedic or possibly just a brief frame, not fanservicey
- The Capitol Games: Panty Shot: Koriana's costume for the chariot ride has her underwear on full display. Apparently to show her 'innocent side', which is a case of the Deliberate Values Dissonance in the Capitol. This doesn't seem to be used for fanservice, although this is not a well-written example in general so it's hard to tell
- PhineasAndFerb.Tropes J To P: Panty Shot: In "Ain't No Kiddie Ride" when the rocket is spinning upwards with Candace holding on. It's very hard to see at regular motion since they're the same color as her skirt. Usually this is assiduously avoided, though. Almost assuredly not intended to be fanservice
- Recap.Star Vs The Forces Of Evil S 1 E 4 School Spirit: Panty Shot: When the cheerleaders do the booty shake during the game Brittneys skirt goes up and shows her butt and panties before she's caught. Knowing the show, this is probably Comedic Underwear Exposure
- Little Lulu: Panty Shot: Lulu is quite prolific in this. Again, almost assuredly not for fanservice.
- The Island of Misfit Christmas Specials: Panty Shot: During David Copperfield's cameo in Mr. T and Emmanuel Lewis in A Christmas Dream
, in which he does magic tricks for a little girl, he asks her if she has a boyfriend, and Peter chimes in to comment, "At this point she lifts up her skirt completely. Wasn't cut out." As far as I can tell, this was done by a small child... not fanservice
- Characters.Sengoku Basara Maeda Clan: Panty Shot: An unfortunate side-effect of the above garment. Shouldn't this just be Fan Disservice instead?
- Recap.Scooby Doo Mystery Inc S 2 E 7 The Gathering Gloom: Panty Shot: Velma. It's the scene where she's holding onto Scooby and just before Scooby jumps the fence. It's not gratuitous and it's extremely brief, so this should just be kept under Freeze-Frame Bonus, if kept at all.
- Fire Emblem:Panty Shot: A few characters in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Ilyana is very prone to them in Path of Radiance. ZCE
- The Ambition Of Oda Nobuna: Panty Shot: Courtesy of Danjyou during her fight against Mitsuhide in episode 9. Not enough context to tell if it's fanservicey or just a Comedic Underwear Exposure
- A League of Their Own: Panty Shot: A Blink-And-You'll-Miss-It one right before Kit complains about Dottie being The Ace. Again, hard to determine given the amount of context here
- Characters/Sonichu: Panty Shot: They happen more and more as the comic goes on. Not a character trope in the first place, and doesn't give them any context.

- MenageA3.Tropes M To R: Panty Shot: Gary gets one, followed by the predictable (for him, at that time) reaction. This example is composed nearly entirely of weblinks, which makes it hard to tell much of anything.
- WebAnimation.Your Favorite Martian: Panty Shot: Happens to the Japanese and Indian girls when they jump around in 'The Stereotype Song." Doesn't indicate if it's for fanservice or not.
- The First Men in the Moon: Panty Shot: Since this is Victorian times, "panty shot" means seeing a pair of knee-length bloomers when the sphere lifts off. Maybe? The examples hints that this was meant as fenservice but doesn't really clarify
- Cloudcuckoolander.Anime And Manga: Kill la Kills Mako Mankanshoku is this. Almost Once an Episode she breaks out in to a speech which mixes Chewbacca Defense with Insane Troll Logic. Some of the stuff she says does make sense, however. In the first episode, she's more worried about a Panty Shot than the fact that she's hung upside down on a cross waiting to be executed. Moments later, when she's going to be boiled alive in oil, she's worried about her clothes getting wet and becoming see-through. Not really enough information to classify.
- Tropes A to M: Magic Skirt: Despite all the crazy action, none of the skirts seem to flip up completely. Not even jumping up and down or doing a handstand. That doesn't stop the players from skewing the camera for Panty Shots. Not really possible to classify as it just references the trope
- Hanging by the Fingers: The opening scene of Azumi: Death or Love, have Azumi fleeing from a band of ninjas after her life, where she ends up diving off a cliff and hanging by it's side on one hand. Complete with a Panty Shot as the camera pans upwards... Pothole that isn't really classifiable
- Anime & Manga: There's also at least one scene where you can see her tail pushing the top of her undies down from where it's sprouted, apparently around the base of her spine. Not enough context to make a call
- Reveal Shot Not to be confused with a revealing shot. Just a "Not to be Confused with" Notice.
- Drinking Game/FLCL: Every time Mamimi flashes the audience Not much to go off of here
- Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star: Leotard of Power: While at first her outfit looks as though she's giving the audience a perpetual Panty Shot, it's not actually her panties we're seeing, but a leotard◊ that she wears under her dress. So... not a Panty S Hot? Just a pothole noting that it isn't this trope.
- Ghastly Prince Enma: Burning Up: Panty Shot: Strangely subverted with Harumi in episode 1 and the beginning of episode 2. Enma-kun got a glimpse but the audience did not. Is this a subversion? I'm not sure where this should go.
- StockParodyJokes.Anime And Manga: The female characters wearing skirts so short that they logically shouldn't be able to move without flashing a Panty Shot. Just a reference to the trope

Continuing to slog my way back through my edits. Wick count has been returned to 1393 and when I finish this re-add I never want to see the word "panty" again! At least while causing my original destruction I'd also done some copyediting here and there to pages so it's sometimes not a total waste for me having deleted PS erroneously. But I'm chipping away at the restoration!
