They're only famous to people who live in Massachusetts (and maybe to political aficionados), but I met Scott Brown at my local town's Old Home Day, and Niki Tsongas at a flag retirement event. Political opinions aside, they were both formal and friendly enough that you could have dinner with them.

I once met the anchorman for the TV news. He looks very different in person. On camera, he wears a hairpiece and lots of makeup to hide his aging appearance.

I met a lot of country music artists up close when I worked tables at CMA Music Festival in 2010 — no real big names, but still people who at least had some form of success. They stayed at the table for the website I wrote for at the time and signed autographs for fans. Bought Trent Tomlinson a beer that he never drank.

My brother worked with a congressman and met Obama.

So that's one degree.

Probably the height of the famous people I've met in person is the fairly well-known storyteller Jim Weiss who I saw live once. I have his autograph in a notebook somewhere.

Levon Helm from the Band.

My family went to a Levon Helm and the Barn Burners concert at a bar in Pittsburgh in 2000.

My mom was friends with his manager and he let us meet with him backstage for an hour before everyone else could meet him.

He gave me the drumsticks he used that night because I played drums in the school band.

My mom told me that I was apparently held by Ozzy Osbourne as a baby. So that's neat. No idea if its true though.

I forgot to mention this but I met Nelson Briles and Kevin Stevens.

Nelson Briles I forgot because to me he was just my grandparents next door neighbor and my mom used to babysit for his children but he was a baseball pitcher; he played for the Pirates when he across the street of my grandparents.

I met Kevin Stevens when I was younger it was after the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 1992 and they announced on the radio or TV that different players would be making appearances in local stores. Kevin Stevens showed up at a local Davis' Supermarket and we got his autograph.

Once, Bill Clinton came to our school, to support a governor candidate. Yes, I'm talking about President Bill Clinton.

He said hi to me in the hallway, I said hi back, and then as he walked off, I realized who he was.

Later that evening, he took selfies with a lot of students.

Prince Philip and Alice Cooper.

Not at the same time, mind. One was at a medal-handing-out-thing at St. James' Palace and the other was in a bookshop in Glasgow.

I met who I'm pretty sure was Johnny Depp in his Jack Sparrow costume at the Southampton Boat Show back in 2007.

I think I met other famous people as well, but that's the only one I can really remember.

I have met Adam Baldwin, Sylvester Mc Coy (He hugged me!), Peter Capaldi (jokingly "stole" my glasses), Greedy Smith, Weird Al, Frankie J Holden, Wilbur Wylde, and Jeff Green.

All were very kind and lovely. Don't worry if you don't recognise most of those names, I don't really expect you to.

All music-related ones, for whatever reason. Semi-chronological order, and trying to stick to ones people actually may have heard of:

The Lonely Island - there was a record store signing for their first album. I only talked to them a little, but they seemed nice and eager to please their fans. For one thing, the signing was scheduled to have ended hours before I managed to get in the door, and they were still there. The guy in line before me brought up a giant plastic penguin instead of a CD note . The guy after me asked Andy Samberg to play rock paper scissors with him just so he could tell people that he'd done it. They signed the penguin and Andy lost at Rock Paper Scissors.

Julia Nunes. Also pretty brief, but she seemed as nice as she generally comes off in youtube videos. I remember making some self-effacing comment about being the old guy in the room, and I sort of was - the rest of the crowd was like 90% girls under the drinking age.

Dicky Barrett. Two of my friends have a band together and were booked as a duo to play a couple songs before a Bosstones New Years show. As a late Christmas/early birthday gift, they got me backstage and also had me come on stage with the two of them (my contribution to the act being clapping along and awkward dancing). Dicky was on the way to get ready to get on stage and I was kind of nervous but we exchanged a few words.

Kim Deal. The absolute briefest, but I find it kind of a cute story. Not long after a Breeders show, I was still hanging around outside the venue with a bunch of the other concert-goers. Suddenly someone behind me yelled "Bye Kim!" and I turned around to see Kim Deal seemingly appear out of nowhere and hurry off into a live-parked tour van. She did take the time to wave before being driven away.
