Condemned by History is a problem trope for many reasons. It leads to edit warring and confusion over what qualifies. In this thread we'll look for bad examples, and look for feedback. Here are the guidelines for this trope:
- The franchise has to be truly popular and loved at first. Things that are So Bad, It's Horrible don't count.
- Simply losing popularity isn't enough. We need to see an actual backlash, with liking it being considered bizarre. Otherwise, every not-so-famous film or concluded television series would be here.
Let's go!

Yeah, Sean's not DTD. That reasoning just says that he can't get a hit as a lead artist anymore. Nowhere does it state that he is hated.
I no longer edit on TV Tropes but will continue as an occasional forum poster.Added an entry for Mike Myers on DTD: Film. Any expansions are welcome.
Amazing discovery@Divine Flame 100 Regarding to Detective Conan, might be bordering to Americans Hate Tingle and Aborted Arc/Arc Fatigue territory IMHO.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔So far, LaptopGuy & I are the only people who have looked at the hip-hop page in any detail. Can we please get a third opinion on that page?
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Here's my analysis on Hip-Hop:
- Keep : Crunk, snap, robotic Auto-Tune, Iggy, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Akon, Ice, Scott Storch, B.o.B ("Flatline"!), Cee-Lo, Mystikal
- On the border: Hammer (influence on pop culture still felt), Banks (never had a hit single), 50 Cent, BEP (early material is still iconic), Far East Movement (album bombed), Kreayshawn (never had a hit)
- Remove: Hip-hop groups, J-Kwon (one-hit wonder)

Amazing discoveryWhile I do think "Rude" itself might classify as Deader Than Disco (there's a lot more of a "why in God's name did we listen to the white reggae guys?" backlash than most, and this is from someone who honestly still likes the song), they've got a second album out and another single on the airwaves. We'll see where this takes us, one way or another.
Hammer's tough to say. He definitely was deader than disco, but Nostalgia Filter and an ironic fanbase for him almost makes him vindicated by history... but I don't know if "ironic fanbase" really counts because I don't think anyone actually think "man, his music genuinely holds up." Banks I agree... other than her various feuds I had genuinely never heard of her. Far East Movement seems legit, though. What's the catch there?

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. This example was recently added to YMMV.How I Met Your Mother:
- It used to be one of the most popular romantic-comedy TV shows in 2000's that contributed a lot to pop culture (such as the Bro Code) and is widely praised by viewers and critics. But because of Seasonal Rot, the Arc Fatigue and the much maligned series finale, people treated it as an example on "How not to plan an ending way ahead while you're still developing the story and the characters". Likewise, rewatching the show after seeing the finale is very hard to put with because everything that the characters did (particularly Ted, Robin and Barney) is now a Shoot the Shaggy Dog case. Because of this, the show and the finale itself made a huge dent on Craig Thomas' and Carter Bays' careers which also explains why the supposed gender-flipped spinoff never got picked by CBS and other networks.
Sadly, I think that's applicable in one of the starkest turnarounds I've ever seen. The show went from really very popular to most of its fans retroactively hating all of it thanks to the ending. Doesn't help that it was kind of the last of a dying breed, with traditional Protagonist-Centered Morality Sitcom with a Laugh Track basically being on their way out.
I mostly hear about it today in a "geez, how did we give this show nine seasons" and/or "NPH is too good for this." Which is a shame, because I loved the show.
I think what's most telling is the fact that How I Met Your Father got shot down before development because of the show becoming dead.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Speaking of Live Action DTD, which examples should be kept and deleted? Barney and Cosby are definitely staying.
Amazing discoveryI'd say Hannah Montana is also a keeper.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.I'm not sure Prison Break qualifies since it's getting some kind of Netflix reboot or continuation.
Oissu!I'd provisionally vote to keep Banks. The criterion is that the work/creator/whatever was once beloved, which is true of Banks; "beloved" & "obscure" aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.
As for Far East Movement, they were more of a novelty act that was never actually taken seriously & simply faded away when their 15 minutes ran out. They're not hated, just forgotten. I know I've voted to keep them earlier in this thread, but I've changed my mind.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Well, if the write-up is to be believed, "Like A G6" didn't just fade so much as "is held up as an example of everything that is wrong with pop-rap." Also the write-up claims they had a strong cult following before, which they presumably lost after getting big.
If that's true, then I'd say they count.
As for Banks, "popular" is kind of a key component here. I don't think she ever was very popular due to her relative obscurity. Her biggest claim to actual fame are the things that got her in trouble.
Question... where would Tila Tequila go? Putting her in Music seems a bit disingenuous since her music was never popular, she was popular from TV and My Space.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. That's fair, but what about LMFAO? Their stories are very similar.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.- Banks did not have anywhere near the same level of exposure Iggy had. She was always a "love it or hate it" type of rapper and I don't think her reputation has changed from where it was in 2014. Iggy, on the other hand, fits DTD better than anyone else in years. Iggy's career wasn't destroyed by a single event rather than the public suddenly turning on her. The Knack, Vanilla Ice, and Soulja Boy all fell due to a public backlash rather than a specific event bringing them down.
- Even calling FEM a "novelty act" is a stretch. I honestly think they were considered nothing more than an anonymous act that nobody actually cared about.

I no longer edit on TV Tropes but will continue as an occasional forum poster. If anyone's looked at the Real Life subpage, I know that Hitler is definitely staying.
Amazing discoveryThat's assuming the RL page itself is staying.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Here's a few creators and works that, while not DTD yet, I think might be worth keeping an eye on because future developments could easily render them so:
- Johnny Depp. If the accusations against him are proven, I could definitely see his entire body of work being polluted.
- Woody Allen, see above.
- The DC New 52, which they've more or less admitted was a mistake and which two recent Crisis Crossovers come off like apologies for.
- Cowboy Cop and Rabid Cop movies (i.e. Dirty Harry). I've been seeing these analyzed much more negatively with the recent outcry against police brutality.
If Woody Allen isn't DtD by now, I'm not sure what more he could do to get that way.
Would the Ice Age films be DTD?
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Not from my anecdotal observations. They're nowhere near as popular as they were, but from what I can see they're more forgotten than reviled. And I know folks who have good memories of the first couple.
Woody Allen is a... weird case. Pretty much everyone agrees he's a horrible person, but his work still frequently does well. I'm not sure where we'd classify him.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Since we tropes works and not people, if his work isn't DtD, then how horrible a person he is isn't our concern.

I have a few more that I thought could fit:
TV Shows
- Caillou. It's being mocked to Barney-esque levels nowadays.
- Also, Dora. The series also gains nothing but mockery nowadays. It's been on the air for 14 years, but it ended to lead to a spinoff. I don't think anyone's been talking positively about it lately.
- 19 Kids and Counting. Enough said.
- Big Time Rush. Yet another victim of 1D. All their fans left them for Harry and co. and the haters blame them for making 1D possible.
Also, is the Real Life section really in any danger of being cut?

Ditto here. While "Rude" has left the airwaves for two years now (it's stuck in our brains), it's too early to tell to call it a DTD. For now it's a OHW in my case.
