TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Not really, since we've also cut stubs with 300+ inbounds. Having a trope list is essential. Add in plagiarism + no english translation and that page does nothing.

The inbounds aren't going to send anything new and the context on that forum page sending links appears to be furry porn. The page isn't going to work.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Instant Gravestone at least needs Wiki Love, I think. It's borderline.

It has been suggested by TRS that Relationship Ceiling needs this. It's not as obviously an unfinished page as some of these, but it didn't go through YKTTW and very definitely shows it.

Beware The Nightmare: is this a trope? a work? The discussion mentions that the creator hasn't made one before and needs help. No YKTTW.

And this: Eveand Adam. It's a work, I guess?

Eve And Adam is a work and plagiarized to boot.

Running down the list of pages mentioned:

  • Instant Gravestone: Needs crosswicking and probably a bit of wiki magic love, but otherwise seems fine. Vote keep.
  • Relationship Ceiling: Not sure that it's worth even sending back to YKTTW, but that does seem like the proper procedure. It can always be discarded there. Voting return to YKTTW.
  • Sea Nanners: Stub all the way; not sure if it's trying to be a work page or a creator page, but either way it's in the wrong namespace. Vote cut the page and PM the creator with the pointers to the page creation guidelines.
  • Ms Scrooge: At least it's in the right namespace. Vote send it through YKTTW to see if it can get a description and examples.
  • Broodhollow: Ditto to Ms Scrooge.
  • Beware The Nightmare: Seems like it's trying to be an index? Vote cut and send creator a PM explaining YKTTW.
  • Eve And Adam: Not sure if that's an attempt at a summary or an attempt to write a story on TV Tropes. Either way, vote cut. EDIT: And it light of what shima said, also voting send it through YKTTW, as it is an actual work.

New launch, zero hats: Googling the New Acquaintance. It's a borderline case; I suspect it could have benefited from more time at YKTTW, but it's not terrible (although the markup is—launcher really needs some basic lessons in trope layout). I'm undecided, but I think it's questionable enough to be worth discussing.

I would be inclined to send it back to YKTTW. The description could use refinement, and I, personally, think it should be expanded to cover all forms of backgroud checks, not just Google. If it's not sent back, it needs indexing and crosswicking (as it currently has zero wicks).

From the untyped pages list:

VideoGame.Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator has no tropes and 1 inbound.

Welcoming Song is a trope without a description!

DarthWiki.Aspectverse has such a sparse description that it's incomprehensible. It might be a work?

Comicbook.Once Upon A Super Hero has 6 wicks, 3 inbounds, and almost no description.

From the launch list: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=1b5wrg8qcva39q7zs4cm4603&trope=RealityHasNoSubtitles died mid-launch: Reality Has No Subtitles (and it's locked, what happened?)

A quick search reveals that VideoGame.Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator has examples on two trope pages: Standard Starship Scuffle and 2-D Space. Which still leaves it pretty stubby, but is better than no tropes. I'm neutral, but then I may not be as anti-stub as some.

Welcoming Song seems to have a one-line description. Certainly could be expanded, but is better than nothing, and I think it's reasonably clear. The examples look good, so I'm fine with this one.

DarthWiki.Aspectverse does look like a work page. Since it's presumably unpublished, the best thing to do might be to PM the page creator.

ComicBook.Once Upon A Superhero seems borderline, but I think it's ok. It's a Russian comic, so we can't really expect a whole lot. (And YKTTW is unlikely to be able to help.)

No idea what's going on with the Reality Has No Subtitles thing, but I'd be inclined to unlaunch.

eta: Whoops, Once Upon a Superhero has a Russian main character, but the comic is apparently not Russian, so I'm not sure. But it does have more than three examples.

What happened to Reality Has No Subtitles (—>Edit banned thread) is that someone launched the YKTTW with bad formatting prematurely. It has been redone and is waiting for unlocking in the unlocking requests thread.

Artemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator: This now has tropes. My guess would be someone used the wiki itself to draft the page, and you caught it early. Needs crosswicking, but otherwise fine.

Welcoming Song: Agree with Xtifr; it's just good enough to squeak by. Someone might want to keep an eye on the creator, though, as the YKTTW was launched without hats.

Aspectverse: This has tropes now too. But given the namespace, I'm guessing it's an unpublished work, which I don't think we need to worry about here.

Once Upon A Super Hero: The requirement for a work page is three tropes, so it passes. (Also, Arcades, I think you're mixing up your terms: tropes/links are links on the page, wicks are links pointing to the page, and inbounds are the number of people who have visited the page from an off-site link.)

Reality Has No Subtitles has been returned to YKTTW, so it will presumably be relaunched at some point.

Ah yes, mixed up my terms there.

Also, I'm surprised to learn that one line counts as a description — I thought that would only be called a Laconic.

Talking To Myself has nothing to do with the wiki's purpose and needs to be cut.

Short Haired Hottie has no examples and an one-line description, never mind probably fails the trope criteria. Cut away.

Bad Black Barf looks like a trope, but needs some crosswicking and indexing.

I agree. The first two are not tropes.

The Bad Black Barf and the Paddle-shot trope should go back to YKTTW.

Also agree that the first two aren't tropes and should be cut. For the latter two, I think Bad Black Barf is probably okay to stay, given some formatting and crosswicking, as the definition seems pretty solid. Paddleball Shot should be returned to YKTTW for further work.
