Note: If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the mods to add the trope via this thread.
This is the thread to report tropes with problematic Real Life sections.
Common problems include:
- Conversation on the Main Page
- Flame Bait
- Squicky content
- Impossible in Real Life
Real Life sections on the wiki are kept as long as they don't become a problem. If you find an article with such problems, report it here. Please note that the purpose of this thread is to clean up and maintain real life sections, not raze them. Cutting should be treated as a last resort, so please only suggest cutting RL sections or a subset thereof you think the examples in question are completely unsalvageable.
If historical RL examples are not causing any problems, consider whether it would be better to propose a No Recent Examples, Please! (via this forum thread) for RL instead of NRLEP. If RL examples are causing problems only for certain subjects, consider whether a Limited Real Life Examples Only restriction would be preferable to NRLEP.
If you think a trope should be No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only, then this thread is the place to discuss it. However, please check Keep Real Life Examples first to see if it has already been brought up in the past. If not, state the reasons and add it to the crowner.
Before adding to the crowner:
- The trope should be proposed in the thread, along with reasons for why a crowner is necessary instead of a cleanup.
- There must be support from others in thread.
- Any objections should be addressed.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for discussion.
When adding to the crowner:
- Be sure to add the trope name, a link to where the discussion started, the reasons for crownering, whether the restriction being proposed is NRLEP or LRLEO (and in the latter case, which subject(s) the restriction would be for), and the date added.
- Announce in thread that you are adding the item.
- An ATT advert should be made as well (batch items together if more than one trope goes up in a day).
In order for a crowner to pass:
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- There must be a 2:1 ratio
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple extra days to see if any more votes come in
- Once passed, tropes must be indexed on the appropriate NRLEP index
- Should the vote fail, the trope should be indexed on KRLE page
Sex Tropes, Rape and Sexual Harassment Tropes, and Morality Tropes are banned from having RL sections so tropes under those indexes don't need a crowner vote.
As per Real Life Troping, we never trope unscripted real life sports — so sports tropes where RL examples would only apply to those scenarios don't need a crowner vote.
Crowner entries that have already been called will have "(CLOSED)" appended to them — and are no longer open for discussion.
After bringing up a trope for discussion, please wait at least a day for feedback before adding it to the crowner.

Notes:
- This thread is not for general discussion regarding policies for Real Life sections or crowners. Please take those conversations to this Wiki Talk thread.
- Do not try to overturn previous No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only decisions without a convincing argument.
- As mentioned here, the consensus is that NRLEP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.
- The [[noreallife]] tag doesn't currently work. This is a deprecated tag that was introduced many years ago — originally, it would have displayed a NRLEP warning banner when you edited the page. However, there's been some staff conversation (Feb 2024) about what a new technical solution might look like, so we'd advise against deleting these from pages, at least until we have a decision as to whether it'll be fixed or replaced.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpBump for votes, particularly Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards, which is at 9:0 and pretty close to meeting the 48hr minimum time requirement.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpYou Can't Fight Fate: Narrative trope.
Nominated Evil Poacher. Reason should be obvious.
P.S.: The disappearing crowner bug can go fuck itself.
You using an older version of Safari? Because I am, and I'm experiencing that bug, too. (Yes, I know I'm using Safari as a scapegoat for technical problems I experience very often, but still!)

No, I'm using Firefox. The vanishing crowner thing is a known bug, and apparently it isn't browser-related.
It's a Javascript bug that is already fixed in the beta version that will open for testing shortly.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'm using the latest version of Chrome, and I have to reload the page after every vote because the crowner disappears.
Edit: That will teach me to refresh the page when I've been letting it sit for ten minutes.

Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettTwo pages that ask for NRLEP but aren't on the list: Know-Nothing Know-It-All and Reusable Lighter Toss.

Let me guess: The first one could attract natter and the second one's a narrative trope?
Also, You Can't Fight Fate: Is the Titanic one an example of shoehorning?

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsNo idea. The first I get that it would bring Take That! edits, but I don't know why they'd put NRLE on the second (unless there's a Concerned Parent worrying this newfangled tvtropes thing is teaching kids to throw lighters around).
Okay, I at that.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI noted that Laser-Guided Karma have a real life folder... and the penultimate paragraph of the description is: "For sake of trope differentiation, examples should be limited to bad karma, heroic or villainous, and when an opponent's "good karma" combines to double wham the antagonist."

All your safe space are belong to TrumpI find the reason on the crowner for Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass to be insufficient. It says "Narrative/characterization trope," but I think it should be NRLEP'd for a different reason. That reason being that the trope requires superpowers, making the trope impossible in real life (and no, Real Life Superpowers don't count).
Altered the CMHB's reason on the crowner to reflect this.

Well, adding Laser-Guided Karma to the crowner.
Personally, I don't think Laser-Guided Karma is necessarily a villain trope. Note that the key paragraph says the bad karma can afflict heroes and villains alike. Even good people do bad things that come back to bite them in the arse from time to time.
Calling:
- You Can't Fight Fate: Added 31st Dec '14 at 1:00:00 PM, 10:0
- Evil Poacher: Added 31st Dec '14 at 04:46:23 PM, 10:1 (11)
I think Laser-Guided Karma is a narrative trope, perhaps of the aesop variety, that's meant to sent a message.
There are also a bunch of shoehorns, plain Actions Have Consequences, and other stuff that shouldn't be there. And links to Cracked that don't explain the examples.
Check out my fanfiction! Is it just me, or do none of the RL examples in A.K.A.-47 (weapon that's modeled after a real gun is given another name due to trademark issues) really fit the trope?
Probably can just do with a cleaning, unless it attracts more misuse after it's cleaned.
Also, calling:
- Blasting Time: Added 29th Dec '14 at 12:30:00, 11:0
- Pstandard Psychic Pstance: Added 29th Dec '14 at 12:30:00, 6:1 (14)
It doesn't look like the ratio for Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass is going to be changing much, as it hasn't for the last few days or so, so I think it's about time to call it for keeping RL examples.
[edit] That leaves one item remaining, Laser-Guided Karma. It meets the minimum time requirements, but as of this post falls short of the minimum vote requirement, having 6 yes and 2 no votes for a total of 8. After that's settled, I think we should set up a new crowner, given the "never mind" entry brings it up to 12 entries total for the current one.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpMake that 9.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettI would have said "make that 10" but someone apparently beat me to it.
Oh well, whatever. Calling Laser-Guided Karma.

Ok, going to holler for the next crowner after I hit "send" on this post.
Also, still looking for input on A.K.A.-47, as I mentioned in my previous post.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpCrowners switched and thread title changed.
