This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

Self-Demonstrating Song is the problem child here, since 1) the definition is vague (this is what happens when the trope description is two sentences), and 2) half the examples fit under This Is a Song. Someone needs to pack this one off to TRS.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)for pulling from Self-Demonstrating Song. I'll look into whether we need TRS.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThe new quote on Impersonating an Officer is far too long. Anyone have any better alternatives?
The leadup seems extra useless. How about cutting to the last five lines?
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. We could also leave the last six lines but cut the first sentence ("What do I mean useless?") if that would sound better.

Fangs of the relentless thousandSorry about the double post, but Gantz has two quotes. I'd rather go with the one from the actual show, but what do you all think?

Fangs of the relentless thousandAgreed, keep the quote from the work, move the one from the review to the quotes page if you feel it merits keeping.
The quote for Spill Stain Sabotage is from the same source as the image, and I think it would work better as the caption. Anybody have ideas for alternatives?

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I want to suggest the following quote for Perverse Sexual Lust:
Cat: You're right. We’re nuts. This is an insane conversation.
Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it.
Excellent
Final Boss, New Dimension: I don't even think I need to explain what's wrong with this quote. It speaks for itself.
In the absence of you suggesting something better, not really, it doesn't. There could be a better quote out there, but this one isn't so terrible that I'd jump to replace it.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)How can you defend a quote which effectively boils down to "this trope sucks"? It doesn't tell us anything of substance about the trope at all, it just calls it "such a Cliché", which is complaining. I don't know if you know this, but we look down upon that sort of thing around here.
Because it's pretty obvious that it's just a sly form of Lampshade Hanging? A single character saying a line like that does not count as overly negative complaining, especially since the work in question is employing the trope. It's clearly intended to be humorous, not complaining.
While a Lampshade Hanging is admittedly not the best for showcasing the trope, in the absence of anything else, it's passable. So again, what other suggestion do you have to offer?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Obvious to you, maybe, but not to someone who knows nothing about the work. And that doesn't change the fact that when taken out of context, it comes off as snark.
Additionally, the quote does not convey any actual information about the trope other than what's in the title. If anything, the quote should be in the examples section, attached to the example, not at the top of the page.
For the record, I have never played any games in that series.
This is going nowhere with just the two of us, though, so I propose we wait for other opinions for now.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Looking at the page now, that doesn't really sound that complainy, though it's not a particularly good quote either.
I think the quote is short, descriptive, and funny. You might be able to find a better quote, but it would be difficult.
In addition, that's not what complaining looks like. It doesn't violate that rule, unlike some other memorable quotes.
Calling something cliche is the worst (and honestly most cringe-inducing) type of Lampshading. I'd kill that quote.
Have we talked about the quote for Gameplay To Story Ratio here before? Because if not, I really don't like it.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Well, it's about story to gameplay ratio, and I think I see what you don't like about it.
But really, it doesn't describe the trope at all, so it needs to go. It's just a joke about the trope.
Final Boss, New Dimension: Since "cliché" basically translates as "trope I'm sick of", that quote is saying "[This trope] is a trope!" It really adds nothing to the description except to frame the trope as a bad thing.
(Besides, characters pointing out that what's happening is a cliché is such a cliché!
Story to Gameplay Ratio: Ehh. It's fine as a depiction of one end of the spectrum, not sure whether that makes it a great quote for the trope in general. Don't see any better quotes on the page, though.
I'm wondering if something related to Oblivion would be good, but slightly hindered by the fact that I only started playing it recently and haven't actually finished the main quest...
This is one of the journal notes for the quest to kill Mankar Camoran, but doesn't really make clear that he's a (sort of) "final boss". Something about "saving Tamriel" would be good at getting that across. I'm going to see if anything Martin says in dialogue is any good.
"Martin performed the ritual and opened the portal to Camoran's Paradise. He warned me that the portal would close behind me. Martin believes that since Mankar Camoran bound himself to the Mysterium Xarxes in the creation of Paradise, I can only return to Tamriel by killing him."
I'd prefer to just leave Story to Gameplay Ratio with no quote if a replacement cannot be found.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Good Tropers,
What do you think of the following page quote for The Chick?
Crown Description:
What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
The quotes on Self-Demonstrating Song and This Is a Song are the same.
Should we select for which trope the quote is more fitting, or is there a more general problem that the two tropes are badly differentiated?
