This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.

Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.

Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

Getting back to Authority in Name Only, I think the King of Town quote fits the page well enough.

Definitely the King of Town quote for Authority in Name Only.

Readings Are Off the Scale has two quotes. Not crazy about either, but second is slightly better.

For the other AINO quote, is there any reason to save it on a quotes page, given it's just one quote and isn't really related to the trope subject anyway?

And [tdown] for both of those Scale quotes.

Huh, personally I think they're both pretty good, but would lean towards the Trek one.

The following are some decent ones from the page:

The Corellian Trilogy:
C-3PO: -and there are probably temperatures much higher than that, except the detectors are not there any more to tell us.

the Ghostbusters videogame:
Egon: ''These readings are off the charts...now I'll have to make new charts."

^^ I'm almost tempted to say that GB quote be more like Readings Blew Up the Scale, though the chart probably wasn't physically destroyed (never played it).

Anyway, zapped the GoT quote from Authority in Name Only, and still undecided on Readings Are Off the Scale. None of them really "click", so to speak, with me.

^ I don't know, that second quote isn't really about the decorations as much as using them as a measure of "important target".

Mind you, I'm not especially keen on the first quote, either. tongue

Ah, didn't realise we had Readings Blew Up the Scale as a separate trope. The Transformers and Star Wars ones are more about that trope too.

I prefer the first one on Bling of War.

^ That could get cut with a lossless compression of data, I think. It's not really talking about the trope, but what the reviewer thinks of it... which means precisely dick as far as the wiki is concerned.

Someone changed the quote in Canada Eh for one that does not fit the spirit of the trope at all. Weird Al's quote is far better, and there are many other options on the quotes tab just in case.

I personally think the Craig Ferguson quote on the quotes page is the best. It does a good job of illustrating Canadian stereotypes, and also happens to be pretty funny.

Eh, the Ferguson quote isn't bad, but I think the original Weird Al quote was the best of them, and I'm not saying that as something of a WAY fan. tongue

I Thought It Was Forbidden has two quotes. One for each of the two tropes gong by the name. tongue This one may need TRS more than this trhead, but either way, I don't like the first quote.

[up]Neither trope really explains what the trope is about, so both could be ditched. But I agree that the whole page is flawed: it have two completely different definitions (the second of which seem to be a duplicate to I Did What Ihad To Do) that are vaguely defined, and no YKTTW either...

On topic, it seemed that someone changed have changed the page quote of Lethal Chef from a Ranma 1/2 fic to a Futurama one. Had this been discussed before, or did someone changed it unilaterally? Further thoughts please.

Man, the Canada Eh quotes page does not make Americans look good. I guess that's what you get for winning a historical war against them and then going hundreds of years without giving them a passable excuse to settle the score tongue

I quite like the Craig Ferguson one, if only because it provides some balance to all the "Canadians are pussies" stuff.

What's forgotten is US forces got their butts kicked by Canadians every time they tried to invade. In 1812-14, the US won at the negotiating table more than in the battlefield.

I like the Craig Ferguson quote as well.

On Lethal Chef, I prefer the Ranma 1/2 quote.

I also prefer the Ranma 1/2 quote for Lethal Chef.

The person who changed it said "it was too long", and I wanted to make sure it wasn't something decided here. Should I revert it?

I prefer the new one. The old one was a bit on the long side.

The old Lethal Chef quote was a bit on the long side, but the new one strikes me as entirely too mundane. There are a few things on the quotes page that I find to be slightly more interesting.
