Aut Omnia, aut Nihil—Renascibilitas

All of this has happened before, and if all goes as planned it will happen again.

Yours is a world much like any other, a blue marble drifting through the void as it orbits a pale yellow star alongside seven brothers. It has the same continents and oceans as any number of the myriad earths floating in the fathomless depths of this infinite multiverse, the same people and nations, the same languages and significant dates. You live in a quiet, dusty old town in the middle of nowhere, whittling away the days in whatever fashion suites you best; perhaps you love this sleepy hamlet and could never dream of leaving it, or perhaps you despise your home with a passion and are chomping at the bit for the chance to get away from it. No matter your origins or opinions, one thing remains unchanged, one common thread that links all of you together—though you might appear no different from anyone else, you were born with a great and terrible destiny; while it may seem peaceful and simple now, your life will soon take a plunge into the realm of madness.

You may have had enemies; let go of that hate, for it shall avail you not. You may have had friends and loved ones; cherish these bonds while you can, for soon they will be gone. Your world, though you cannot know it yet, teeters on the brink of its annihilation; a Reckoning in Heaven has seen the order of the universe overturned, the fabric of all that is torn asunder, and while His servants maintain stewardship over what remains of creation, the Creator’s power is broken beyond repair. The damage is too severe for the Angels to mend, alas; your world cannot be saved, and soon it shall meet its end; billions will die as the Earth ceases to be, consumed and destroyed by the chaos soon to come.

It is the end of your universe, but for you, the tale is just beginning.

While you have no recollection of this event, at some point in your past—likely shortly after your birth, though there may be exceptions—you were taken from your parents, family or friends by a mysterious cult and forcibly infused with the latent essence of an Old God, one of the many deities, demons and spirits who held sway over mankind before the Abrahamic faiths, Buddhism and Hinduism grew into the dominant religions of your world. The divine essence which now courses through your veins is inert, having no effect on your ordinary life whatsoever, but soon this power will awaken and you will begin the long and arduous trials that form your apotheosis.

Once the world ends, you will awaken on the first layer of Metatron’s Cube, the divine realm where the remains of your universe shall be gathered and reshaped to forge a new creation. Without a Master, this font of creation seethes and churns under its own power, awaiting the arrival of one—or a group—strong enough to control it and wring from it the next reality. You are not alone, however; others have also been blessed with the power of the Old Gods, and not all of these nascent deities will be friendly towards you or your allies. Regardless of whether you desire to create a new universe or not, you will need to proceed through the layers of the Cube; your essences are weak, and to become stronger you must either win the unquestioned faith of mortal worshippers—many of whom are scattered throughout this crucible—or kill your fellow demigods and consume their essences.

You will enter Metatron’s Cube as little more than ordinary men, women and children, but if you manage to brave its perils and emerge triumphant, you will have transcended your mortality and become gods.

A sequel to/continuation of the forum roleplay Aut Omnia, aut Nihil, which ended prematurely for reasons unrelated to the game itself; taking place in the same setting and the same timeframe, but following a different group of godlings—or Inheritors, as is now the proper term—as they try to survive and thrive in the hostile reality that is Metatron’s Cube. A working knowledge of the previous game is not necessary to play in this one, though it would certainly help you to understand the nature of this setting and its cosmology. Like the original Aut Omnia aut Nihil, our (new) characters would initially start out on Earth in the normal world, living normal lives as ordinary humans unaware of their great destiny before the plot kicks into gear and the universe is utterly destroyed; once this happens, their dormant divine essences will awaken and they shall arrive on the Cube, ready to fulfill their destiny as the Inheritors of a new world.

The rules of the previous game still apply, as do those of forum etiquette; give the first post of the old game's sign-up thread a once-over to familiarize yourselves with them. These include no god-modding (ironic, given the nature of this game); no ghosting; no auto-hitting, unless permission to do so has been given beforehand; and no meta-gaming. In addition, when your characters first arrive in the Cube and their essences awaken they will be fairly weak due to a lack of worshippers; because of this, you won’t be warping reality or granting wishes right out of the gate—that is something that you’ll have to work towards over time. In effect, your characters’ powers will be closer to those of a comic-book superhero initially.

When creating your character, please adhere to the following character sheet and fill out the required sections.

  • Name: self-explanatory, I would imagine; the full name of your (human) character.
  • Age: how old they are.
  • Gender: again, self-explanatory.
  • History: your character’s biography. What were they like before entering Metatron’s Cube?
  • Personality: how your character thinks and behaves. What is it that makes them tick?
  • Appearance: what your character looks like in their human form.
  • Innate Abilities: skills which your character picked up during their mortal life before arriving on the Cube, such as athletic abilities or knowledge and skills learned in school or as part of a trade.
  • Divine Essence: the name of the god, demon or spirit (heroic or otherwise) whose power infuses your character. Note that you only have one essence, that it must be a real deity, mythological creature or legendary figure and not one that you made up, and that you will not be playing as Jesus, the Judeo-Christian god or any other omnipotent, monotheistic entities. Eldritch abominations like Nidhoggr, Apep, Typhon, Amatsu-Mikaboshi, etc., for story and balancing reasons, are not eligible for PC divine essences. Providing a link to information on your chosen divine essence is recommended, but not absolutely necessary.
  • Powers, traits and abilities: the powers your essence confers when it becomes active in the world of Metatron’s Cube. Try to keep them at Type-2 on the Super Weight Scale or lower for now.
  • Awakened Appearance: what your character looks like once their divine essence has been awakened and they have transformed into an Inheritor.

As this takes place in the same setting as the previous iteration of Aut Omnia aut Nihil, many of the characters from that game are still extant and thus their essences have been claimed already; if the divine essence you wish your character to have appears on the following list of names, it has already been taken and you will have to choose a different one.

The list is as follows:

Tlaloc, Hermes, Loki, Thor, Bastet, San Martin Txiki, Heracles, Amaterasu, Quetzalcoatl, Morpheus, Sedna, Hades, Balor, Anubis, Saga, Sun Wukong, Baron Samedi, Erebus, Forseti, Tefnut, Inari, Nuada Airgetlam, Vulcan, Khronos/Aeon, the Morrigan, Monthu, Jack Frost, Dionysus, Sobek, Camazotz, the Easter Bunny (yes, you read that right), the Grey Ladies, Pan, Gaueko, Dakuwaqa, Sabnock, Tiamat and Watatsumi.

And that's pretty much it, ladies and gentlemen. I'll have a sample character up in a subsequent post, for those of you who aren't familiar with the previous game and wish to have an example to work from.

  • Name: Peter Retton
  • Age: 6.
  • Gender: Male.
  • History: Peter seldom made friends, but it matters little to him since he already has a friend of his own, always with him. His friend, a great big strong monkey-man, helps him a lot by telling him what animals have to say. Adults dismiss his claims easily, but he spends so much time in the outdoors looking for tracks and nests that they easily forgive this quirk.
  • Personality: A shy, introspective child, given to long conversations with his invisible friend.
  • Appearance: A young boy with a curious stare.
  • Innate Abilities: Knowledge equivalent to a first grader's.
  • Divine Essence: Enkidu
  • Powers, traits and abilities: Created by the gods to serve as brother, rival and friend to the god-king Gilgamesh, Enkidu possesses strength and constitution far beyond that of mortals. In addition, he has lived for so long with the beasts of the wild and the birds of the sky that he can speak their language, and they obey him.
  • Awakened Appearance: A shaggy-haired giant (Unfortunately, there are no good pictures of the version I'm going with, who looks kind of like a sasquatch).

Appearance, for one thing; those descriptions tell me nothing about your character other than that he's a kid who will eventually become rather tall once his divine essence awakens. Furthermore, his strength and endurance need to be more thoroughly defined; quite a few Inheritors are far stronger or sturdier than any ordinary human.

Does As-Strong as They Need to Be-except-against-bosses work? The original only indicates he's a nine-foot-tall dude strong enough to wrestle a two-thirds-god-one-third-mortal (and are basically Ryu and Ken) to a standstill.

As for appearance... I dunno, Calvin maybe. Who'll become a hairy Gentle Giant. (This is the best picture I could find.)

Name: Yumiko Minamoto
Age: 17
Gender: Female

History: Yumiko's earliest memory is from after she was adopted by her foster-parents, after they adopted her from the orphanage where she spent her earliest days. The two treated her with love and kindness, being unable to carry children themselves. Yumiko grew up to become a very beautiful child, and her adoptive mother started teaching Yumiko from early on how to be a good wife. She was taught how to become the ideal Japanese wife, with the broad spectre of domestic skills that her old-fashioned mother thought of as essential; cooking, flower-arranging, handling home economics and much more. Yumiko's adoptive father, however, saw in her the chance to train her in all the martial arts that he had spent his whole life perfecting. She learnt Aikido and archery, but her mother stepped in when she tried to learn karate and kendo. Such dangerous sports would only give her bruises or calluses, and Yumiko's beauty, which only increased as she grew older, had to be preserved. Yumiko's adoptive father was a very religious man, and she learnt much about the kami from him. When the time came for her to start school, Yumiko's parents at first wanted Yumiko to be tutored at home. However, Yumiko insisted, as she wanted to see the world outside the large mansion in which they lived. Finally, her mother agreed that she should learn to socialize properly, and enrolled her daughter in the best schools available. Yumiko turned out to be a really intelligent child, and did very well in school. In many ways, Yumiko lead a perfect life; she was beautiful, graceful, intelligent, skilled and healthy. She was sure to have a good future. And then...the apocalypse came.

Personality: Yumiko was brought up from early on to become an ideal wife. Having taken her mother's words to heart, she is polite, loyal and humble. She has a very kind and graceful manner, and rarely raises her voice. She does not swear or use foul words. She had several friends at school, but her parents did not let her socialize much outside of it. Following the teachings of her adoptive father, Yumiko has a strict sense of duty and responsibility. She practices her martial arts every day, and never shirks away from her studies. However, she has always been curious about what exists outside her life and what it is her parents are not showing her. She is very conscious about her looks, especially since it's the only thing she inherited from her biological parents.

Appearance: Yumiko is of average height for a Japanese female teenager, which is to say not very tall. She is of a slim build, but has a slightly larger than average bust. This got her teased in school, and she has always been somewhat embarassed about them. She has deep black eyes and long, silky black hair which she takes good care of and normally wears loose down her back. She also has very soft, pale skin.

Innate Abilities: A skilled archer, and trained in domestic skills.
Divine Essence: Hachiman, Shinto and Buddhist god of archery and war.
Powers, traits and abilities: Through Yumiko, Hachiman can give another person The Warrior's Blessing. The one who receives it is blessed with greater stamina and strength as well as sharpened senses, superior reflexes and heightened accuracy. While it does not make the recipient smarter or able to think more intelligent than before, he or she will think clearer and faster. Yumiko receives this blessing at all times, and to a slightly greater extent than those that she passes it on to. Hachiman also transfers into Yumiko the innate ability to handle any kind of weapon and armour that she comes across, as well as steeds and vehicles, with ease and skill.

Awakened Appearance: After receiving Hachiman's Divine Essence, Yumiko has lost much of her previous feminity in favour of a warrior's body. Her slender frame is now musculous, optimized for wielding heavy weapons, performing martial arts and lasting through long battles. She is much taller than before, taller than most men, and with a reach to match. The only thing that has not changed is her feminine face and the long black hair running down her back in a ponytail. Hachiman dressed his Inheritor in full samurai armour, and it too carries his blessing to be durable and sturdy. The black scaled armour has the seal of the Minamoto clan on the breastplate. In addition, Hachiman has provided a long bamboo bow (yumi), which is even longer than Yumiko is tall. It hangs on her back, together with a bristling quiver. A katana hangs from the red sash around her waist.\\

Geronimo!

  • Name: Vasiliki Leonedas.
  • Age: 17.
  • Gender: Female.
  • History*: Vasiliki was born to a middle-class family in the island's* Greek community. Her father was a mildly successful painter, and her mother was a dancer and a musician. Her father was harsh with her, but fair, and her mother was loving and nurturing. All in all, that particular combination caused her both to become extremely determined to excel at whatever she chose to immerse herself in and to develop a strong liking of the fine arts. She was a so-so student - while her grades weren't astronomical, she muddled through. She was friendly with just about everyone, always willing to help people out, and used to hang with a few friends near the isle's church. In the meanwhile, she learned how to dance and to cook... Then the apocalypse happened.
  • Personality: Happy, carefree, and optimistic. Vasiliki's outlook on life can be summed as 'if you fail, it does not matter; go on, try harder, and believe that the future will be better'. She almost always sees the bright side of things, and is willing to help others to the best of her abilities. One thing that drives her into a rage, however, is disloyalty; she suffers traitors badly, hating them with a passion.
  • Appearance: a girl of middle height and middle bust, she is willowy and graceful. She usually wears her black hair in a topknot.
Her face is long, with a prominent, almost beak-like, curving nose; full lips; almond-shaped brown eyes; large dimples that show up whenever she smiles (most of the time) and a pointed chin.
She usually wears jeans and a tunic, both in hues of green.
  • Innate abilities: A good dancer, and a good cook.
  • Divine Essence: Khonsu, the Ancient Egyptian god of the moon.
  • Powers, traits, and abilities:
    • Light of the Moon: Vasiliki can create moonlight and use it for a variety of effects. The most simple is illumination. She can also use it to freeze and damage her enemies - whether by surrounding herself with it or by shooting beams of it at them.
    • Healing: As the Inheritor of a god of healing, Vasiliki can call upon his power to heal those she lays her hands on. While she does so, the moon's pale fire surrounds her. At first, she won't be able to do much, but as she'll become stronger, she'll be able to treat harsher ailments.
    • The Evil Spirits: Khonsu nepher hotep is an evil aspect of Khonsu that rules the evils spirits that bring disease, madness, and decay; Vasiliki can call upon his power to confound her enemies' thoughts.
  • Awakened Appearance: The obligatory falcon head, plus falcon claws for feet and hands. A full lunar circle appears above her head whenever she uses her powers. Other than that, no change.

  • Name: Caitriona (ka-treen-ah) Kelly, called either "Cat" or by her last name.

  • Age: 24

  • Sex/Gender: Male/Female; has had GRS, though still undergoing hormone therapy and scheduling plastic surgeries.

  • History: Cat's childhood is something she strives every day to forget. Her parents were very conservative and perfectionist, disappointed in her if anything she did was less than completely ideal. When she came out as transsexual at fifteen, their reaction was. . . Less than pleased. Conservative psychologists in a conservative town added to her problems rather than helping soothe them. At seventeen, she snapped, running away to live with a sympathetic aunt. With the help of a loving guardian and competent doctors, she slowly began to accept herself for who she was, though she still harbours insecurities. She graduated a year late, at nineteen, and went to university the next year. She's trying to live a relatively normal life in (insert name of hub town).

  • Personality: Strong-willed, independent, and very extroverted. It always seems as if she's trying to make up for something, and she is; she always feels somewhat inadequate because of her childhood issues and because she feels as if she's incomplete for not being a "real woman." As such, she strives to excel in everything she can. She is vocal about her opinions, even when they can get her into trouble, and is always the first to speak up if she has something to contribute. For these reasons, many people consider her a bitch; they may not be wrong in this belief. Even so, she has a good heart, and when the chips are down, her loyalty is infallible.

  • Appearance: Cat looks rather androgynous; most of those who see her think "female" if only because of her black hair (which extends to the ends of her shoulderblades) and clothing. She has green eyes, and her skin is quite pale. She is, for obvious reasons, taller than most girls, standing at 180 cm. To make up for her unfeminine appearance, she makes an effort dress up a lot; she is frequently seen in dresses and skirts, and is almost never without makeup.

  • Innate Abilities: Acrobatics, dagger-fighting*, rapier fencing (inc. use of the main gauche); majoring in history with a minor in anatomy.

  • Divine Essence: Brighid. I'd link to the wikipedia article, but said page can be most accurately described as a great chaotic clusterfuck. Brighid is revered as the patroness of poets, artists, scholars and doctors* She also has control over fires, and a connection to high land (mountains, plateaus, hills, etc). Her sacred day is Imbolc, on 2nd February. She was married to the Fomorian Bres, and had a son, Ruan.

  • Powers, traits and abilities:
    • The ability to create and control fire with her will. At first, this is limited mostly to altering the course of pre-existing mundane fires, and creating wells of flame on her body (usually the hands) which can be directed in a line or arc towards a target. As she grows in power, she will develop finer control over the flames. This is her main combat-related ability, though it will of course come in handy whenever fire is needed for whatever reason.
    • Immunity to burns and smoke. Mastery of the element of flame comes with protection from it; heat in and of itself cannot harm Kelly in any way, nor can the smoke fire gives off.
    • Brighid's wisdom and skill. She can play woodwind instruments proficiently (as Brighid invented them), has an eidetic memory, and knows things by instinct that others would have to puzzle out- essentially making her Miss Exposition. Note she isn't omniscient; for instance, she might know that the thing they're looking at is (insert beast from mythology) and that its weakness is (whatever), but not what it's planning to do or why it's there.
    • Healing. Brighid's power allows Cat to magically heal injuries and cure diseases; towards the beginning this is limited to speeding the healing of bones, closing cuts, restoring burnt flesh etc.; as her power grows, she will be able to treat more severe injuries and do so with more speed, cure diseases, etc.

  • Awakened Appearance: As Brighid's Essence infuses her body, Cat becomes noticeably more feminine. The transformation, in fact, makes it as if she were born female; this includes the presence of a menstrual cycle. Her face is more feminine, especially her lips, and her body becomes more "curvy" as they say; she also grows completely natural breasts, which, while not overly large, are noticeable. Naturally, Cat is ecstatic about all this.

@ Lem, Oni-Lord & desdendelle: I deem your characters acceptable, though I do have one slight reservation; regarding Vasiliki, des, I'm slightly concerned about her ability to conjure evil spirits. Perhaps if you made that power physically taxing for her to sustain, at least initially?

@ Chabal: Then describe how Peter resembles Calvin; put into words the qualities and traits which make him distinctive, and not merely a generic placeholder of a human being. What colour is the boy's hair, for instance; what is the pigment of his eyes, his skin tone? Is he overweight for his age, or scrawny and thin? Does he have any distinguishing marks, like a scar?

By that same token, describe the changes which come over Peter once the essence of Enkidu awakens in detail; just how tall is this man-beast, and what other features does it possess apart from being large and (evidently) hirsuit? Does Peter retain any of his previous traits upon his transformation into a full-fledged Inheritor? What sort of clothing does he wear in this state, if any? What is it that will distinguish Peter-as-Enkidu from any other shaggy brute, like a yeti or sasquatch? These are the questions that you need to ask yourself when writing these things.

Also, try giving Peter-as-Enkidu an upper limit for his strength and endurance, one that can increase as his divine essence grows stronger; after all, strong he may be but the Hulk he is not—or not yet, at any rate.

[up] @ Exelixi: I knew I should have refreshed the page again before I posted; give me a few minutes to read through your submission.

EDIT: Okay, Kelly's profile looks good for the most part, though obviously her awakened appearance still needs to be filled out. I do have to ask why she knows how to fence, however; was this part of her schooling, perhaps?

  • Name: Atori Masaru
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Female
  • History: your character’s biography: Um... Would like to PM Sullen for this.
  • Personality: Atori is a calm and collected individual, if a little on the reserved side. She is also a bit shy, but has an inquisitive side, as well as a slightly odd sense of humor. Her speech patterns seem to reflect that like her, she is patient and pondering, as her words seem to hold some sort of decisiveness whenever she opens her mouth. As such, she takes things a little more seriously than most people. She is always polite, and a bit subservient to males due to her upbringing.
  • Appearance: In her regular human guise, Atori is a slightly shorter than average woman with a hair denoting her status and attitude, specifically the Hime Cut. She wears the crimson red komon kimono with a gold sash and zori and tabi socks. Her skin is near the pale that Japanese people adore, and her hair a sleek midnight black. Around her neck is a length of string with a single ring tied upon it.
  • Innate Abilities: Atori is good at tea ceremonies and and displays of social etiquette, as well as cooking. She is also skilled in horsemanship, archery, and the use of the naginata. She is displays talents for calligraphy and art.
  • Divine Essence: Again, Sun Wukong.
  • Powers, traits and abilities: Atori has access to animal companionship, specifically those of the equine family due to Sun Wukong having been the Bimawen. As such, she can call animals to her aid, as well as minor spirits and demons. She also gains the use of glamours and the 72 transformations, a resistance against attacks of plasmatic and bladed variety, super strength due to the Taoist's Crucible, and the cloud somersault. She also knows the Buddhist mantras, and thus is capable of using minor holy magics and charms, as well as usage of the legendary Golden Clasped Wishing Staff whose size can change.
  • Awakened Appearance: In her awakened form, her state of dress becomes a feminized (but still combat practical) version of the golden robes, and the golden filet is instead transferred to her wrist as a bracelet. Her hair turns a sheen brown, and she gains a monkey's tail.

I dropped out of this a long time in it's infancy because I felt I was being ignored, but I always loved the concept of the game itself. I'll give it another go, if I can.

Name: Andrea Antonio
Age: 17
Gender: Male Not normally my gender of choice, but we need some dudes who aren't 6 years old or transitioning to female

History: A social pariah by upbringing, Andrea was from the get go an incredibly awkward child. Though his parents claimed he was a brilliant young child, the boy in his formative years developed his intelligence at the cost of his relations- he simply couldn't interest other children and in fact drove them away with a childish arrogance born of his parent's coddling. By the time he outgrew his childish ways he had became socially conditioned to accept the fact that his peers didn't care for him, so Andrea would spend almost the rest of his life with few friends, none of whom were close. He turned to the internet, to geeky interests to hold his interest where society couldn't, and very quickly became a failure at school despite his innate intelligence. At 17, Andrea is virtually failing out of school and is being driven only deeper into seclusion, parents willfully blind to his situation.
Personality: An extremely passive person who accepts whatever comes his way and as part of his childhood complexes is very reluctant to take the initiative and make things happen on his own. Andrea actually has a natural Italian charm and social grace, but his own self-esteem issues give him an aura of self-loathing that drives away his peers. While not necessarily a doormat, Andrea simply doesn't do anything to get to know people with his deep rooted assumptions about others, leading most of his peers to assume that he's a loner on purpose. However, he's quite empathetic and quick to the draw, and has a near boundless patience.
Appearance: A pretty handsome young Italian man with fair skin, strong brown eyes, a manly and clean shaven face and a slender body; who has allowed neglect to ruin aspects of his appearance. He has acne, his hair is poorly maintained and greasy. While thin, he's also out of shape and has no muscle definition at all and easily runs out of breath. He wears fashionable clothing given to him by his parents, but it's rarely well put together and more often resembles a tacky ensemble of expensive clothes with poor and garish color choices.
Innate Abilities: Virtually none.

Divine Essence: Bastet
Powers, traits and abilities: The ability to deflect and redirect hostile attacks, only to a certain extent, and only when explicitly protecting others. He cannot do this if trying to protect himself or turn an enemy's power against it, in short he cannot redirect an attack towards the attacker. Has an affinity for animals in general and specifically can communicate with and command cats.
Awakened Appearance: In general, Andrea's impurities are cleaned away, allowing him to be once more considered handsome. His nails grow into claw like protrusions, and he grows slender stripes of fur running down the backs of his arms and legs. All of his hair becomes a stark gray. A particularly strong application of his power can cause a temporary transformation of his form into that of a cat as a whole.

Awakened appearance filled in; sorry, I clicked the post button before I meant to.

As for the fencing, that has two answers.

Doylist: She fences because I fence. I enjoy swordfighting scenes and like to think I'm decent at writing them.

Watsonian: Most universities have fencing clubs, and fencing is a fun extracurricular activity as well as being a decent means of self-defence.

@ Exelixi: Ah. That should be a suitable explanation then, methinks; I'll see about adding Kelly to the list.

As for GS and Bassetete, I'll look over your characters more thoroughly and give them an evaluation when I get back from school tomorrow; it's getting late, and I need to be up somewhat early. Sorry for making you wait like this, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Hm, actually, can I change something? Namely, Required Secondary Power for fire: immunity to burns and smoke-based suffocation.

Such a mild change is permissible.

Now then, going to sleep; I'll have my evaluation of Gs and Bassetete's characters up tomorrow afternoon, along with a sample character of my own.

This looks really interesting.

  • Name: Jack Baker
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Male
  • History: A simple life in the States, Jack spent most of his school days just doing his work or playing sports with other children. Although he was a bit social, no matter what he did, he just couldn't find someone he could honestly call a real friend, as people in his life came and went quickly. As he grew older, he eventually started to stop playing sports aside from daily running, and kept himself from others. His parents were often at work, so he usually took care of himself.
  • Personality: A shy boy still maturing. Jack is very unsure of himself, and tends to be away from others. Because of this, he puts off a gloomy atmosphere. However, he does have a sense of loneliness, and tends to follow others if he likes them. Due to his current lack of interaction, he is usually quiet, and prone to speech problems when talking, especially when it comes to women. Morality-wise, he's kind, helpful, and tries to be as friendly and polite as possible as possible, if only to try to be friends with said person.
  • Appearance: A average height of 5'10, he has short, messy, blond hair with brown eyes. He has nothing very interesting on his face aside from some whiskers on his chin. He has a sturdy build,. For wear, he wears a simple black hoodie, dark grey black cargo pants, and black sneakers.
  • Innate Abilities: He's a quick runner, and that's about it.
  • Divine Essence: Unicorn
  • Powers, traits and abilities:
    • Viciousness: A unicorn was known to be utterly ferocious, and said that they could not be taken alive. In a struggle, Jack fights very roughly with no real skill or finesse, but with savage speed and strength.
    • Purity - Being the very symbol of such, Jack is resistant, or downright immune to poison or any kind of corruption. This trait can be temporarily passed if he passes his blood to others, albeit in a weaker form.
    • Horn - The main source of strength for a unicorn, this bestows a healing property to Jack and anyone he wills it to. However, it's also his weakness as breaking it temporarily robs him of most of his power until it regenerates. The horn itself is durable and can be used as a weapon, although using it for healing weakens it somewhat.
  • Awakened Appearance: A long, black spiral horn sprouts from his forehead. His hair grows long to shoulder length, and he brings out a more fearsome visage than his normal, subdued self.

Although I really am bad at making the profile. So anything need expansion or something else? I hope I got the Essence idea correctly.

  • Name: Hugh Forrester
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: M
  • History: Hugh was born lame. You should know that. He was homeschooled til middle school, and at a young age taught the tools of the trade by his father—a mechanic. Hugh loved tinkering with machines and fixing them and the like, watching their hidden energies catalyze with life once they were fixed. Having no way to play outside with the other children—not that he'd want to with all the looks he was getting as the weird kid with the weird leg—Hugh took to intense study of Dad's old books. He learned nearly by rote the ins and outs of anything that could input and output energy, and as a summer job became an actual mechanic. He supposed that now he might actually get the respect that other people seemed to enjoy so much. Uh, that didn't pan out so well. He ended up just getting used, invited to parties to fix cars and the like, which pushed Hugh deeper inside himself, realizing this. But that was fine, he could deal. He can keep on dealing with it for as long as he needs to...
  • Personality: Hugh is very introverted. He prefers the comfort of a book over human interaction, but also doesn't view people's actions with any amount of inherent suspicion. He does, however, light up whenever he sees a new machine to tinker with, and often goes right to work without asking.
  • Appearance: Hugh is about 5'4", scrawny and olive-skinned, with black hair. He has amber eyes, and he doesn't blink very often. He normally wears light T-shirts and loose-fitting jeans and big steel-toed boots. His left leg is lame, and he walks with a dragging limp.
  • Innate Abilities: Prodigal, almost innate knowledge of technology and machines, particularly cars, and the proficiency to use the tools in such professions. Like wrenches, welders, etcetera.
  • Divine Essence: Hephaestus
  • Powers, traits and abilities: His limp is not removed. An immunity and control of fire, the ability to perfect and create legendary weapons and armor from a forge he simply summons from the earth.
  • Awakened Appearance: His limp. Is not. Removed. However, his lame foot changes from simply being deformed to actually being on backwards. He wears a traditional Greek smith's outfit, a basic cotton tunic and red cap. He also seems to be constantly surrounded and lit by the dim glow of a furnace, and his arms become covered in burns.

We've already had Hephaestus. Axes had him. Er, assuming that we're counting the two names of Classical gods to be the same being.

Name: Jeffery Chan

Age: 21

Gender: Male

History: Jeffery is a native of FuckAllNowhere, AZ. A third-generation American, Jeffrey grew up in the relative economic stability of the American suburb. He had a somewhat mediocre academic performance but did well on the track team, which got him into a semi-decent college. Exactly zero of his classmates can recall ever maintaining a conversation with him. Jeffery's father, a low-level accountant, placed immense pressure on his son to perform well in school and was extremely disappointed by his lackluster performance. He didn't really do much to convey his disappointment, however. Jeffery's mother, on the other hand, was very vocal about her disapproval, resulting in many unusually heated arguments between the two of them while Jeffery still remained at home. Jeffery had a sister three years younger than him named Anna. Anna, being actually better than Jeffery at academics, often helped him with his homework, and Jeffery, in turn, listened to her talk about her daily life. Jeffery's parents were much more impressed with their daughter than their son.

Personality: Jeffery has...eh, about 0% interest in the traditional concerns and interests of people whom he doesn't consider his friend. It is very hard for him to empathize was problems like worrying about a test or an injury preventing an athlete from playing for the rest of the season. These concerns don't seem petty to him; he's concerned when these misfortunes happen to him—but he doesn't understand why he should care about someone else's problems. Likewise, he doesn't express any negative emotions that arise from his own misfortune. Beyond that, Jeffery doesn't care about what you want to do with your life; it's not his life and he couldn't care less. He is unwilling to put the effort into conceiving most of his schoolmates as actual people. Jeffery does not speak or emote very much, but when he does, he is often bitter, though not outright hostile.

Appearance: A skinny, tall, young man with a green hoodie. He wears a pair of crooked glasses most of the time. He cuts his hair very short, and his limbs are disproportionately long compared to the rest of his body. There are a couple of acne scars around his cheeks.

Innate Abilities: He can run for a long time.

Divine Essence: Guan Yu, legendary figure from Chinese mythology, associated with battle, brotherhood, and righteousness. Jeffery embodies none of these things.

Powers, Traits, and Abilities: When in battle, Jeffery can summon Guan Yu's iconic Guan Dao and wield it competently despite its size—Required Secondary Power of superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. Furthermore, once in battle, he will register the initial pain caused by his wounds but can, if he chooses to, mostly dull the pain.

Awakened Appearance: A gigantic, red-skinned man clothed in green robes and radiating a white light, riding a horse and wielding a massive Guan Dao.

  • Appearance: A short, young brown-haired boy with a curious stare.
  • Awakened Appearance: A shaggy-haired giant nearly ten feet tall (like this, minus the tunic as he hasn't been 'civilized'). In this form, Peter retains his intelligence and his own personality (though sometimes Enkidu takes over if it goes faster) but his strength and toughness are vastly increased. He at first possesses The Strength of Ten Men, and his divine nature allows him great stamina, able to keep up with the gazelles he herded.

That better? I seriously don't know what else to put for his appearance, it being so secondary.

Not Literally Me

  • Name: Joshua Ibis
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 22

  • History: Joshua isn't aware that he was adopted, and had a generally good childhood- his parents were kind and loving people towards him. The same cannot be said for each other, though- Joshua distinctly remembers several periods of his life where his parents getting into lengthy screaming matches with each other was a daily occurrence and in one case separated for several months. When Joshua was 15 he eventually managed (through a lot of manipulation of third parties) to convince the pair of them to get relationship counselling, which improved their situation no end. Joshua was a bright and amiable teenager, and managed to both excel in his schoolwork and acquire a large number of friends at his school. At the time of the apocalypse, he was going through university and generally considered his life to be quite good, so he was somewhat unhappy with the world ending suddenly.

  • Personality: Joshua has a strange and seemingly-inexplicable inability to open up to others and actually let them get to know him. This doesn't manifest as self-isolation and detachment from others- instead Joshua lies to others about himself, and constructs a very well-maintained persona of an outgoing, friendly and sociable person while inwardly being distrustful and unwelcoming. Despite this, he isn't a bad person- he is never purposefully malicious, just unwilling to trust other people's motives and capabilities. He keeps his opinions about others to himself and avoids confrontation when possible. Indeed, Joshua seems to end up setting himself up as the arbitrator in other people's confrontations, being generally seen as a calm, trustworthy, and reasonable person. His exterior can be cracked given enough time and effort to get you to trust him, but it will take quite a while or rather extraordinary circumstances. Ibis isn't happy about the end of the world, but since he tends to be proactive and practical about problems, he isn't going to sit around moping about it.

  • Appearance: A medium-height man in decent shape, neither scrawny nor overweight, nor particularly athletic. He has a gaunt, thinly-framed face not particularly noteworthy, with a thin, beak-like nose. Clean-shaven with short black hair and green eyes.

  • Innate abilities: Joshua's main talent with real applications in the real world is his knack for acting and lying through his teeth in an extremely convincing way. This he picked up from an early age as a sort of self-defence mechanism, and honed through a keen interest in drama and similar subjects throughout his life.

  • Inheritor: Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, the sciences, magic, arbitration, and judgement.

  • Powers, traits, and abilities: Thoth's power over magic manifests itself in numerous ways that Joshua can access in his awakened state. Joshua can fly and levitate under his own power (but not while carrying heavy objects as of yet), has a weak telekinetic ability (being able to lift any one object light enough to be lifted by one hand and use it with dexterity within a ten-metre radius), can generate magical shields (which require concentration to keep up and, can be shattered with enough force, and are weaker against magical or otherwise non-physical attacks), a fire bolts of energy as a weapon.

  • Awakened Appearance: Joshua Ibis, as an Inheritor, doesn't even look moderately human. He has the head of a massive ibis, with avian features and a long, curving beak (this does not hamper his ability to speak, which he seems to be able to do without opening his mouth). A plume of long black feathers covers the back of the head and neck and comes down to his shoulders, leaving only his face and throat visible. Below the knees, his legs become covered in birdlike scales, and his feet are four-clawed talons. His body itself becomes slightly taller and more well-built and physically fit, though no above the range of a competent athlete. When calling upon his divine abilties, Joshua's eyes glow white and wisps of whitish mist stream out of them.
