I'm not seeing anything in the description of Comical Angry Face that isn't frequently found in, say, Looney Tunes.
"In such cases, you can expect the character to have enlarged, distorted and oftentimes pupil-less eyes; fangs or otherwise distorted teeth in their mouth; and No Indoor Voice - angry waving of hands or over-the-top violence are optional descriptors."
Pupil-less eyes may be unusual in western works, but that's an optional element. Everything else seems pretty universal.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Given that Ondo is apparently a genre of Japanese Music, I'm moving it to Japanese Media Tropes.
Posting my own opinions on the whole index:
- Comical Angry Face: Agree on not anime/manga specific.
- Fist of Enthusiasm: Despite the example section, I am sure I have seen it outside of anime/manga. It's also not thriving.
- Inverted Portrait: Looks Japanese to me.
- Loud Speaker Truck: Positively sure it's not just in Japan.
- Moe Couplet: Japanese name nonwithstanding, this has apparently plenty of western examples.
- Moe Stare: That looks generic cute to me.
More to follow.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPretty much agree.
BTW, I'm inclined to think that we've made too many subindices for Japanese stuff. Do we really need Japanese Animation Tropes AND Manga Effects AND Japanese Visual Arts Tropes, given that all of the first two are a type of the last? It makes it too hard to tell where to put things that are equally true of medium. Almost all Manga Effects, for example, are also used from in Anime.
EDIT PS: Panty Fighter is apparently a genre, and not a character type as its name would imply. I'm moving it to Anime Genres, but does anyone else think it needs to be renamed to Panty Fighter Series?
EDIT PPS: Shonen Upgrade is a common trope in, well, Shonen series. It's an item, power, or transformation gained by a main character to drastically increase their abilities. Most commonly it's some sort of "special ability" or "new move,"
Why is a character dramatically increasing their abilities considered unique to Japan, much less Shonen? This needs to go to TRS.

Patient Childhood Love Interest is already on two other Japanese indices, so I'm going to go ahead and cut it from Anime Tropes.
I think Manga Effects is older than the other two. I suspect it might also be an "official" name for those graphic tropes as such exists. When I originally suggested the sorting, I didn't really have Japanese Animation Tropes that separate given the very small subgroup that it is.
Fight smart, not fair.BTW, where does Anime Reality fit into the scheme of things?
It's the Japanese form of Hollywood Style.
That said, several tropes from there need to be cut for not being Japanese.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo this should be just for tropes with the word "Anime" in their name? If that's so, several of those need to be cut from the list.
PS: Also,
- Comical Angry Face needs to be rewritten to be non-Japanese specific. It is also Not Thriving.
- Theme Deck needs to go to TRS. It is not thriving, its name makes no sense, its definition is unclear, and I'm not sure why it is written to be anime-specific.
- Loud Speaker Truck is not thriving, has a name that sounds like Chairs, and I see to reason why it should be considered Japan specific. I think this might need to go to TRS.
- Panty Fighter should probably be renamed to Panty Fighter Series.
- Sleep-Mode Size does not look Japanese-specific to me.

I'm putting Anime Trope on the cutlist. We don't need a redirect that is only the singular version of an index that is going to be replaced anyway.
I just went through and cleaned up UsefulNotes.Japan. Basically my goal was to get rid of everything that wasn't either a Useful Note or a setting/historical domain character trope that provided meaningful information about Real Life Japan.
I also linked Japanese Media and Japanese Media Tropes there.
Most of the stuff I removed was put on Japanese Media Tropes or another appropriate index. Some of it was only marginally Japanese related so I didn't bother putting it on any of the Japan indices.
I also pasted a bunch of stuff I didn't have time to sort on the discussion page for Japanese Media Tropes.

So, is anyone else still paying attention to this thread? This page?

I am still paying attention. Issue is, I am better at answering questions than at doing things independently.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm not liking the fact that we have an active index that has most of its trope stripped and note saying it is going to go away. To much of an "under construction" feel to it.
Have we decided on the final fate for this page? Personally I'd like to turn it into a redirect to Japanese Media Tropes. I think we can do that right away. The tropes that still need to be discussed can either be moved to a sandbox, or simply listed here in this thread.
EDIT PS:
The following tropes still need a descision.
- Comical Angry Face
- Fist of Enthusiasm
- Loud Speaker Truck
- Moe Couplet
- Moe Stare
- Shonen Upgrade
- Sleep-Mode Size
- Theme Deck
- Twisted-Knee Collapse

My opinions on the remaining material:
- Shonen Upgrade: Not seeing how it's Japanese, and it's been clearly stunted by the Japan-specificity.
- Sleep-Mode Size: Not Japanese.
- Theme Deck: Also not Japanese.
- Twisted-Knee Collapse: While most examples have no context, I do not agree it's Japanese.
I agree with all that. I'm trying to see if I can get at least one or two more people to make some input before I remove the last of these tropes from this list.
Are you fine with making Anime Tropes a redirect to Japanese Media Tropes, or can you think of a better way of dealing with it?
I would have no objections.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI agree to all of that.
I must be cruel, but to be kind That bad may begin, and worse be left behindWould anybody mind putting Shonen Upgrade into TRS for a rename?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo, does anybody disagree with my proposed index changes? After it, what is else to do other than redirecting Anime Tropes?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI agree. I was hoping to get one or two more people to comment here, but its been days and no one else has said anything, so we might as well put the plan into effect.
No objections here.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.OK, I pulled the last items from Anime Tropes and added Inverted Portrait to Japanese Animation Tropes as I thought of earlier.
Anything else to do, or can we redirect Anime Tropes and close this topic?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
All three of those are Animesque works (though the last one is missing that trope despite itself being listed on said trope's examples).
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
