Calling all Grammar police!

Go To

Similar to the NATTER ALERT thread, this thread is for shouting out that there is an article in dire need of grammar assistance. It is useful for those times when there is just too much to do, or you just can't bear to look at even one more misspelling at the moment without permanently losing your sweet disposition.

This thread is for help and feedback for fixing other people's edits.

If you want help with your own edits then that's off-topic here, but we do have a separate Get Help With English thread that can provide assistance.

If you see someone with severe grammar problems, bring it up on Ask The Tropers.

Could someone go over Webcomic.Ears For Elves and Characters.Ears For Elves, and make sure all the spellings are American ones?

I can't tell which words do and don't change, so it's likely to be inconsistant as I normally use English spellings. Any quotes from the comic will be Americanized, though, and the original page creator was American, so it's probably best to keep them that way. (I decided this request was more likely to belong here than the Cleanup thread.)

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Detective Conan – People From Notable Cases has some really careless grammar issues all over the page.

[up] Done. It's probably not perfect, though, so someone may want to check it.

Rosario + Vampire needs work. Most of it's OK, but it's such a huge page that there's still a lot that needs fixing.

Legend Trilogy needs some cleanup in grammar/spelling terms. I've called the editor in to the Get Help With English thread.

Here's what I entered in another thread (still needs help)

Pasila is riddled with:

  • cumbersome long-ass sentences with rambling digressions due to the editors 1) being native Finnish speakers 2) feeling a need to recap most of the episode for every example regardless of relevancy
  • incorrect grammar (mostly regarding prepositions)

I was working on it but it exhausted the juices outta me before I even got past the tropes starting with A...

Gundam Build Fighters and its subpages seem to be magnets for editors with poor grammar. Someone mind giving them a polish?

Hate to double post, but I've found some more stuff.

Towelket: One More Time and all its subpages have a bunch of grammar issues.

Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is a very new page, but it's already picking up grammar problems. I've noticed in general that a lot of the game's fans do not speak English as a first language, so I'm wondering if this might be a page that needs to be checked up on every now and then.

Following are pages I added to my to do list for grammar edits, but don't anticipate getting around to soon.

  • Characters: Pokemon Black and White anime
  • Awesome: Video Game Levels T to Z
  • Awesome: Video game Levels A to L
  • The trope page for Due to the Dead
  • The Western Animation page for Rugrats
  • The Awesome and Funny Moments pages for Sesame Street
  • The series page for Family Matters

I've also noted that the area near the top of the page for the 2016 revival of The Powerpuff girls could use some work.

I'll see if I can't knock off some of this myself today, but if any of you are hungry for cost to edit for grammar now, that should be plenty to do.

A lot of The Nostalgia Critic pages are worded in a very specific vernacular (adjectives as verbs and such) and I'm struggling to figure out how to make them more accessible. Sample:

  • Flip-Flop of God
    • It's a little more complicated than usual because memory issues and self-admitted bitter, but since comeback (he was firmly addicted to back/story and Character Development before), Doug can't seem to make up his mind if Critic's nicer, worse or not even a character anymore, whether he expects and wants people to be offended by him or just thinks they're overly sensitive and letting themselves get hurt, or if there's several story arcs going at the same time because he wants to go even darker or there's very little continuity now because he can't take Critic anywhere after To Boldly Flee finished his main plotline. Note this is just what he says at cons or in commentaries, what he consistently puts in the episodes is a different very self-aware story.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

[up] I read through that article, and it seems the strange capitalization is on purpose, considering this example.

all lowercase letters: The names of the girls and women.

and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.
