[up]I have a nasty feeling that she's going to get fridged in the next movie. Honestly, I thought Spectre ended in a way to perfect write out Daniel Craig's Bond, but I know he's still contracted for one more movie.

[up]My guess is that he said what he said due to the difficult production/shooting. And, let's face it, this is a role which requires a lot of physical and mental effort (especially physical).

[up][up]That's one of the possibilites I thought about, yeah.

When Craig leaves, I wonder: will they have a different actor play the same character, or will they reboot again?

[up]You mean the same characterization, right? Are you thinking of someone who could act closer to the Connery type or the Lazenby type?

I don't think a reboot is necessary.

I mean, Connery through Brosnan played the same James Bond character. It was all one continuity. Then the reboot came, and Craig played a rebooted Bond.

I'm not sure if you can say it was all one continuity; it's obviously impossible for the same James Bond to have fought Dr. No in 1962 and Gustav Graves in 2002. Of course, there are references to Tracy in The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, and Licence to Kill, so it's not entirely clear. Then again, George Lazenby's Bond referred to Sean Connery's Bond as "the other fellow".

[up][up]We've been over this. Continuity doesn't fucking matter with Bond.

In terms of personality, each actor's Bond was different, although Craig's has a fair amount in common with Dalton's. It will be interesting to see whether they keep the Craig style with the next Bond or go for a different tone.

To make things even more confusing, Craig's Aston Martin DB 9 is the same one from the Connary films, Q makes reference to Golden Eye's gadgets and Judy Dench's M makes reference to Craig's predecessor.

Is Judi Dench's M supposed to be the same character as the one from the Brosnan films or what?

Probably not since Brosnan's M knew him as an experienced agent (who had served under a previous M) and Craig's Bond met her when he was just starting out.

Although, in terms of personality, I don't think there's any difference between Dench's M in the Brosnan films and Dench's M in the Craig films.

[up][up]I don't think it really matters. Craig's Bond goes from being a raw recruit to a beaten down and aging agent in the span of two movies and four years. Film-to-film continuity doesn't really exist in this series.

[up] Given that Quantum Of Solace began immediately after Casino Royale, wouldn't that indicate the former stayed in 2006, which was the year CR came out, and that, Skyfall, which came out in 2012, would have taken place six years after CR/QOS?

If you're feeling literal-minded, sure. The point is that Bond's characterization and the series' continuity is twisted and changed as needed to serve whatever story they want to tell with each film.

I tend to just assume each new Bond actor starts their own continuity.

[up] There's holes there, too; for one, all the post-Connery Bonds have at least one Call-Back to Tracy.

Running Gag. No more, no less. Okay, it's more black humour than Bond is noted for but it's still just a Running Gag.

The return of SPECTRE should have been better than this though...

Something that I've been asking myself after re-watching Die Another Day (because I'm stupid and love to torture myself).

Towards the end of the movie, M chews out the head of the NSA for not informing her that Moon and Frost where classmates at Oxford.

Now, Moon is the son of a North Korean general attending a U.S. school. it’s entirely possible he was spied on the entire time he was at school. It’s possible there were congressional hearings held over whether he should be even given a student visa.

Frost is an Olympic athlete who won the Gold Medal for Fencing after her opponent overdosed on steroids and died. Given that Britain doesn't win a ton of Gold Medals, the nature of the tabloids and the controversy of her victory (Seriously, a competitor dies mid-Olympics from drug use?) it’s entirely possible Frost was the most famous woman IN Britain for a short period of time.

So how did MI 6 miss that she went to school with Moon?

At least in Goldeneye it was stated that they knew Alec was the son of Leitz Cossacks they just assumed he wasn't loyal to his parents' cause. In Die Another Day, it looks like they didn't even bother doing a background check on one of their own employees.

Man MI 6 looked dumb in this film.

That's a bit unfair to Britain's sporting achievments. Britain won 29 gold medals at the last Olympics, 3rd in the table and more than double the 13 won by the 5th placed nation. Tennis and cycling, being huge sports here, will see their winners become household names. Lesser sports like fencing? The answer to a pub quiz question, probably not much more, even for a gold medal. In the context of an overall achievement like that, Frost may not have received a huge amount of attention really.

[up]Yes, but you guys had home advantage in your favour in these last Olympics. In the 2000 Olympics (2 years before Die Another Day came out), GB only won 28 medals in total (11 gold, 10 silver, 7 bronze). I assume that, if there are less winners, people tend to be able to focus more on those who won the gold medal).

Just saw it. Really liked it, but not without flaws.

Start with the best thing in the movie: Madeleine Swann. She's cute, she's funny, she can handle herself in a fight, she makes Bond genuinely smile. The scene where she said "What do we do now?" cut immediately to Coitus Ensues got an audible laugh from me. Christoph Waltz was pretty awesome; he definitely seems to be channeling Donald Pleasence in that he plays Blofeld sort of like a spoiled brat. A nigh-omnipotent terrorist spoiled brat. I liked Batista, but I wished he lived longer. Max Denbigh was another fave, and though it was somewhat heavy-handed I liked the political message he was used for. It's rare you see a left-leaning action movie.

Negatives... Like seemingly most of you I'm not sure why Monica Bellucci's character needed to be there. Was she just there to give Bond a "womanizing douchebag" scene before Madeleine makes him a better person or whatever? It was never even stated whether she lived or died. She was last seen alive, so I guess she escaped...

Also, I wish SPECTRE's connection to Quantum and Silva's outfit was explained in more detail. They were apparently tendrils of the proverbial octopus, but that's about all we get.

And you know... I think Daniel Craig's done. Leaving aside the fact that he hates the role now, this film felt like an ending. MI6's existence validated, Mr. White six feet under, Vesper and all the others avenged, the conspiracy dismantled, and Bond driving off into the sunset with someone he cares about more than just as a piece. The only possible thing that isn't a conclusion here is that Blofeld lives.

[up]In regards to Monica Bellucci's character, she was taken to the American embassy by Felix Leiter. So, I presume she left the country and lived, after all.

As for Spectre and Silva's group and Quantum, I think the latter two are subordinate groups of the big Spectre 'octopus'.

As for Craig, I think he still has one movie left, but anything can happen now. As long as Waltz returns at some point, I'll be fine with some other possible new directions.
