It's Anime Seinfeld.
I really should catch up with it soon. Got sidetracked, and now need to get five episodes...
I'd really, really like to find a way to enTrope some of the background music of this. For example, we have "Gravity" (aka that Initial D-esque Eurobeat music), attributed to "m.o.e.v." (see: actual Eurobeat band m.o.v.e.), and then we have that very Enya-like synth-heavy song when Tsukasa listens to the sound of the seashell, which is actually named "Kore de Enya" ("This is Enya").
On another forum I summoned a massive Internet Backdraft (someone teach me how to do trope links here) for mentioning liking Lucky Star.
I just like the atmosphere of the series, but agree on the point that it's really slow to start, and for many, that's really offputting.
the statement above is false[ww]Name of Trope[/ww]. There's also a Wiki Word button which will do it for you.
Anyway... I'm not much a fan of Lucky Star. I dunno, there's just something about it... that... bothers me.
Accept no substitutes.I think it's pretty funny.
- keeps this post simple*
I don't see why Lucky Star would be considered controversial. I mean, if it's not your type of humor, fair enough. If you don't like fanservice, that's understandable, but Lucky Star doesn't even have a single pantyshot or anything like that. Well. Unless you count that dubious lifting leg part of the cheerleading sequence. Anyway.
So, flamebait time! Who is your favourite character? After considering that Konata is, of course, awesome for obvious reasons, and that Tsukasa is really cute and the only thing I dislike is how she's portrayed as stupid, and that Kagami is actually pretty cool as well, I gave up trying to figure out who my favourite character is. So I'm settling for Kanata and the guy who cracks up at the old lady's jokes in the bus.
I love the opening bit, I was super jazzed to watch it after hearing all the buzz, and then... and then we get 10 minutes of 3rd graders debating the merits of pastry.
Wow.
Way to knock those socks off with the thrilling pilot episode. Really, I was at the edge of my seat. The seat was teetering because of how close to the edge of it I was.
And the one character who seemed interesting, the girl with the long purple hair who seemed to know a bit too much about grownup stuff, didn't get any significant screen time before I said "Fuck this, I'm going to watch Please Teacher! and at least enjoy a series that is bad."
Now I'm off to don my asbestos underpants.
Yeah, I'll be the 74,562th to admit the beginning is a tad bit slow, as in, the first 7 episodes include maybe total of five minutes of interesting material.
That's a terrible way to start a series. But as a chill-out anime, it's the best. I suggest using it to cool down between episodes of, I don't know, Black Lagoon or Elfen Lied.
the statement above is falseIt just annoys me how everyone that hasn't seen the series calls them "3rd graders". Say it with me: end of high school. They're not even OlderThanTheyLook in-series. Chibi art style; what's wrong with that?

Ah, I guess I'm just being naive to assume that people would simply be indifferent towards comedy series that don't fit their tastes. Silly, silly me.
Also, yes, the anime is slow to start. You'll know it's really started once you fall out of your chair going "HOLYSHITTHISISSOAWESOME" once you come across the Initial D parody. Of course, it's still going to be slow after that, but I think almost every episode had at least one point that really cracked me up, and since cracking me up is not a simple thing to do, that is quite the success. But then, I do also enjoy the slow parts of the show, even the talk about how to eat stuff in the first episode. It's... kinda relaxing? ... I'm not on trial!
I mean, I don't like Family Guy, but I don't lash out at it, I just state my dislike of it if anyone asks.
But to many, comedies are Serious Motherflippin' Business. You don't really watch Lucky Star to get exited, at times, not even to laugh, but to smile. The show brings a smile to my face.
the statement above is falseIt made me smile, and occasionally laugh. And for some weird reason, I found myself actually caring for those weird balls of moe. I've got a few friends a bit like 'em, actually. (Though with one major exception, not particularly moe.) Also, best opening ever. Seriously, I knew it was going to be awesome when I realized that the series opens with four girls talking about food, and that's it. Would've liked a bit bigger ending, but 'twas pretty fitting.
However, I'm now having all these weird, dirty ideas about a Cerebus Syndrome (fine, I confess, Darker and Edgier) Time Skip fanfic.
The first volume of this just got released stateside, and I picked it up after seeing it on the store shelf and thinking "That's out now? Cool." I've only seen the first of the DVD's four episodes, and while I agree that it got off to a slow start, I knew going in that it was more of a Slice of Life series than the action series that make up most of my collection. I pretty much decide whether or not to buy a series or video game after I osmose enough information to get an idea what it's like. Because of that, I almost never but a video game when it first comes out, preferring to wait and see if it stands the test of time. I mean, if it keeps coming up in conversations, trope examples, avatars, memes, etc., there's got to be something to it, right?
So far, the part I enjoyed the most was the Street Fighter parody. Way to show that "creepy foreigner"! What made it even funnier was the fact that the foreigner in question was a Guile parody, an American like myself.
Editing to add: Now that I've seen two episodes, I've noticed that Konata is amazingly like me. On top of the common interests and lazyness, she also shares my ability to ace tests with minimal studying, getting the same reactions I used to get in high school. Brings back memories.
The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever. It's funny, it's cute, and it's shiney. And also an insight into the wierd chunks of japanese culture.
Watchable, wouldn't shell out on DV Ds.
You can actually find the DV Ds?
I've been able to find the DVD's, but I had a little luck with that. I got volume two last Thusday. It was the last copy they had on the shelves, too. By the way, how long is the series?
Also, with the more distinct character styles of this series, it seems like the more I watch it, the less noticeable it becomes. Has that happened with anyone else here?
The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.See, the problem with Lucky Star is it's nice and relaxing and all, but whenever I watch it I feel guilty, as if someone's going to jump out from behind the sofa, smack me in the back of the head with a heavy object, and arrest me for watching one too many 'moe' shows. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

I had the same feeling, like I was guilty of something for watching it.
the statement above is falseHmm. This sounds like something I may look into a bit more. I find Azumanga Daioh pretty addictive, and I did notice myself caring about those characters, so... who knows.
How — and when — do you tell a philosophy it's adopted? What do you do when it wants to meet its birth adherents?I've started shipping Anime Tenchou/Kuroi-sensei. Because it makes me happy.
And Minoru's my favourite character so far (I'm on Ep 13).
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!I'll ignore my distaste for Yaoi for now, just to get this Crack Pairing off:
I ship Anime Tenchou/Clerk Sugita. Going by the Actor Rule, that's similar to shipping Sousuke and Kyon, Gilgamesh and Rin Tsuchimi, and lastly, Kitagawa and Yuuichi.

Wait for the FMP/SRW Shout-Out.
"My Honey!"
Yes, Kuroi-sensei rocks. Why she's still single I have no idea.

I BUY SAUSAGE. I don't think there's any real need for spoiler warnings for this one, because, well, WidgetSeries.
The series is a lot more controversial than it probably should have been, possibly due to FanDumb. Then again, I may have been blinded by my own love for MoeMoe.
What's everyone's thoughts on the series? Favourite bits? Favourite characters?
