YMMV / Juujika no Rokunin

Go To

  • Adorkable: While Uruma is terrifying whenever he’s on his Roaring Rampage of Revenge quest, he also turns into a Nervous Wreck when it comes to interacting with his female peers, inability to act in plays, and freaks out whenever he touches boobs. He’s even attracted several girls, In-Universe and out, for his attractive appearance, despite his socially awkward breakdowns.
  • Badass Decay: For the majority of the series did it show that Uruma had what it takes to take on his bullies until all he has left next is Kyou. But in later chapters as he’s forced to face off against Kyou’s cult with his brother’s life at stake does he begin to decay. After dealing with the loss of Kaname, his Gramps sacrificing himself to save Kakeru, only for Kyou to kill him anyway does Uruma had enough and finally fights back.
  • Catharsis Factor: After witnessing what evils that Kyou and his underlings are capable of, you can expect the fandom to rejoice whenever Uruma refuses to let them get away with it and end their reign of terror.
  • Complete Monster: Daichi Kuga is one of the terrible bullies who caused the accident that killed the parents of protagonist Shun Uruma. Now a tall and strong teenager, Kuga torments the Judo club by playing sadistic games where he breaks the fingers of the losers and forces them to lure many women, including their own girlfriends, so he can rape them. When Kyou orders Kuga to get rid of Uruma, Kuga burns Uruma's house and leaves his elderly grandfather hospitalized. When Uruma investigates him, Kuga appears to seemingly be in love with Anna, Kyou's cousin, before being revealed to be a abusive boyfriend who vents his frustrations on her, constantly beating and raping her. When Uruma finally captures and tortures him, Kuga is saved by Anna, who Kuga kills in a mistaken rage after confusing her with Kyou—but which he doesn't regret later. Revealing that he actually desires to rape Kyou to break him, Kuga fights Uruma with the intention to rape and kill him as "training".
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Uruma’s grandfather earned 1st place in a character poll and for good reason. He’s the Old Master who trained Uruma in his path for vengeance against everyone responsible for destroying their family. He does has humanity left in him to enforce Uruma into sparring any of the bullies IF they’re truly redeemed themselves, if not, then go ahead with the Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
    • Kaname came in second place and it’s not hard to see why. The majority of fans sees her as a more worthy female protagonist and love interest for Uruma, from her beauty and golden heart to match. She’s also especially loved for being a Patient Childhood Love Interest. Once Madoka violently rapes her, you can image how much the fandom called for his death at the hands of Uruma, and did not disappoint when he made it clear to Madoka he’s doing his vengeance not just because of Madoka’s involvement with his family’s demise, but for Kaname’s sake as well. Other fans felt relived she seemed fine afterwards, but broke out of her Stepford Smiler and pleaded with Uruma to give her a Sex for Solace in order to forget the trauma, and he agrees to do it. Then the fandom receives the shock of their lives once Kyou ordered Kaname’s death because her brother, Jun, gave up on winning against Uruma.
    • Rio Suzuyama is definitely earned her recognition for good reasons. She IS the first Action Girl in this manga and shows it how to be as such in the Crapsack World everyone lives in. From gunning down a group of would-be rapists and Kyou worshipers trying to force themselves on Mimi and Saki, to teaming up with Uruma to kill their respective enemies.
  • Fandom Rivalry: With Redo of Healer. Most fans argue over who has the most horrifying revenge setting, the better moral standing of the respective protagonists, or believing that Juujika is the SOMEWHAT better series because it’s not gotten an anime adaption because of it’s extreme brutality while Redo is believed to be too gruesome and controversial to deserve an anime. Then again, that probably means that the chances of this manga getting anime recognition is high.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: A lot of fans and detractors alike admit that the one thing that keeps them invested is seeing the bullies get their just-desserts after the many atrocities they've commited.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Besides their horrific treatment of Uruma, each of the five bullies definitely crosses the Moral Event Horizon too far in their own way:
  • The Scrappy: Azuma. Period. The majority of the fandom loathes her for her Damsel Scrappy status, making stupid life-threatening decisions, and trying to get in the way of Uruma and Kaname. Most fans even wished she had been killed off in place of fan favorites such as Karen Sakuraba or Kaname. This later died down as the series goes on.
  • Signature Scene:
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: A major criticism of the series is how it is hard to get invested in the actual plot and characters. On top of the incredibly violent and fucked up situations that happen each chapter, the villains are way too psychotic and over the top in their atrocities and that you won't feel bad once they die, and the victims serve as nothing more than plot devices at best, leaving little room for characterization. Needless to say, more people care about seeing the protagonist exact his revenge than anything else in the manga.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Despite having over-the-top gory violence, and sexually explicit content (mostly in the form of sexual assault and rape), one might think this is a seinen manga, when it is actually shonen. This probably had to do with the fact that the magazine it was originally published in, Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, set out to make dark works that pushes the boundaries in what can be shown in a shonen series.
