Asides from the nightmare fuel being present throughout the manga, you can expect a LOT OF SAD MOMENTS in this Crapsack World and all of it’s inhabitants...
  • The beginning of Chapter 1 in which Uruma gets horrifically bullied by his peers when he was 12 years old. This moment is so depressing when he discovers a dead stray kitten he secretly taken care of and Kakeru comes to comfort him when he gets home, the two brothers started crying together. What also didn't help was the fact that Uruma's parents would soon be killed off by his bullies, leaving him to be with his grandfather (who, ironically, is a good man who grants Uruma's wish in training him for revenge). What is even sadder is the fact that the bullying, coupled with the murder of his parents, would soon send Uruma down on a path of darkness...
  • Senkouji's breakdown in which he regretted having hurt Uruma and causing him a lot of pain. Subverted, as Senkouji doesn't regret what he ever did to Uruma.
  • The scene in the Ushiro Arc in which Uruma shed tears from his right eye in which he angrily asked Ushiro why he would ever hurt him. Ushiro tries apologizing, but to no avail as he would soon be killed off by the same girl he abused.
  • Uruma visiting Kakeru in the hospital frequently. Uruma wishes for the day when Kakeru can finally recover from his comatose. Eventually, Kakeru is able to wake up, but not without being traumatised.
  • Karen's death: Asides from being kidnapped by Ushiro, the fact that she was abused to the point that she ends up being mentally insane by her own boyfriend is enough for this scene to be depressing. And this went on for an ENTIRE year. Even more saddening is that Uruma had freed her from captivity and allowed her to finish off her former captor, yet she believed that she can never go back to her former life after what she’s been put through. Then she kills herself by slashing her throat with the mini pear of anguish.
    • Uruma eventually delivers Karen’s suicide note that she has been hiding, to her parents residence. They had never stopped looking for her, and are understandably heartbroken when they read their missing daughter’s final letter.
  • Ushiro's sadness towards Karen's death and backstory as to why he loved Karen could be just as saddening, especially when one considers the fact that he was sort of in love with her before he kidnaps and rapes her. Even his apology towards Uruma for the crap that he put him through was just as upsetting. However, this only makes his mistreatment of Uruma viciously ironic...
  • Kaname's backstory in which she was also being bullied by the same group of boys who had bullied Uruma afterwards. She regrets not having paid back Uruma's kindness when they were children, even though Uruma tells her that it wasn't her fault.
  • Kaname's assault at the hands of Madoka Hiro. Overlapping with Nightmare Fuel, this scene is tragic enough to the extent where Madoka not only sexually assaulted her, but also hits her TWICE, then threatens to stab her to death if she didn’t stop trying to fight him off. And all of this is in the middle of the day and during a goddamn School Festival and nobody even walks by! It doesn’t take long for Uruma to realize that she’s missing just before their class is about to preform on stage, and rightfully fearing the worst, races out to find her, but he’s too late. Because of this, not only was Kaname unable to participate together with her crush, Uruma, in the lead roles of Romeo and Juliet due to her late appearance as a result of the attack, but she’s also severely traumatised as she begs Uruma not to look at her as we view into her tattered appearance, haunting expression, and the blood between her legs when Madoka attacked her.
  • Jun's conversation with Uruma. As Jun was begging Uruma to help him comfort his sister after the incident with Hiro, Uruma simply shuts the phone off to deal with Madoka later on...
  • Madoka Hiro's death. Asides from wanting to get attention from Kyou, he ends up getting betrayed by him when Kyou (revealed to be Gramps in disguise), who came to the machine and knocked Uruma out to ostensibly save Madoka, actually came to finish Uruma's job in killing him, causing the machine to not only dislocate many of his joints, but to also RIP OFF HIS HANDS. Yeah he had it coming, especially after what he did to Kaname, yet in his final thoughts revealed that deep down, he always knew that Kyou saw him nothing more than an expendable. All he ever wanted was to have a friend.
  • Uruma and Kaname's conversation at her house. When Uruma tells Kaname that he had already killed her rapist and that he wants her to be strong, she breaks down into tears. Definitely one of the saddest moments in the manga considering the pain that she went through.
  • Anna's constant desire for Kuga's affection also fits this. Having endured a lot of his abuse, she keeps trying to change him in hopes that he would become a better person. Sadly, this did not end well.
  • Anna's death at Kuga's hands. When Kuga mistakenly perceive Anna to be Kyou, he immediately assaults her to the point that she got killed off. By the time Uruma arrived, he was already too late before Kuga knocks him out.
  • Uruma's apology to Kakeru in his head when Kuga is beating him up. What makes this scene upsetting is the fact that Uruma felt as if he let Kakeru down by not being able to defeat Kuga. However, he does eventually untie himself and defeat Kuga later on.
  • Anzai Zenichi's backstory can also be very sad. When he was younger, he did THE EXACT SAME THING THAT URUMA IS DOING, which is mainly due to his times of getting bullied. What is even sadder is that Anzai Zenichi is happy to see Uruma as a kind kid, only to see that the teenager has changed when the two meet again four years later in which the detective noticed that the teenager's eyes are just as darkened as the other bullies he interviewed, showing how the teenager is on the path of darkness.
  • Anzai Zenichi hoped that Uruma would not have killed someone else by the end of Chapter 57. However, by the time he entered the shelter, he was already too late as Uruma had already committed the deed.
  • Anzai Zenichi's death at the hands of Shun Uruma in Chapter 58 is one of the saddest moments in the manga. Asides from having redeemed himself from the past after possibly murdering his bullies by trying to prevent Uruma from becoming what he was like in the past, this ends up becoming useless as Uruma approaches Anzai, who offered a hand to the teenager, to help him redeem himself, only for the teenager to take advantage of Anzai's vulnerability and start choking him. What doesn't help is the fact that coupled with Anzai's last thoughts and apology to Uruma in his head, the scene is even sadder when the audiences see an aggressive, yet tearful, Uruma telling Anzai that he needs to kill one more person. By the time we reached the ending of the chapter, Anzai has already been dead. Overlaps with Nightmare Fuel.
  • The scene in which Uruma destroys the corpses of Anzai Zenichi and Anna Sukisagi. What made this scene pretty sad is the fact that not only was Uruma pretty injured, but he got TWO INNOCENT PEOPLE involved in his fight with Kuga DEAD. In addition, seeing him dispose the bodies by himself for the first time can be pretty depressing as his Gramps is in the hospital and that he has no one to have a shoulder to cry on. May overlap with Nightmare Fuel.
  • Much of Chapter 60 can be said about this. As Uruma returns to his school life, he ends up being confronted by Kurosawa, who accuses the former of being a "liar" regarding Anna's whereabouts before the angry man was restrained by a couple of other students as Uruma himself walks away.
  • Kaname's reveals to Uruma that she hasn't gotten over the trauma of getting raped by Hiro in Chapter 62. Because she’s still severely traumatized, she requests for Uruma to help her forget those memories by having sex with her. Uruma does commit the deed.
  • Shirakawa Jun's backstory and perspective of the event surrounding his sister getting assaulted in Chapter 63. When Jun and Kaname were younger, Kaname was always the light to his darkness by telling him that they'll split any worries that either of them have in half as twins. However, that all changed when Kaname was assaulted by Hiro as Jun kept questioning Uruma of what happened to Kaname, to which the former doesn't get any answer from the latter. Jun even walks outside of his home, lamenting if he did anything wrong after he frantically asked his sister if Uruma did anything bad to her.
  • Uruma parts from his friends to protect them from anymore danger regarding the bullies who he is planning on killing.
  • Uruma being relieved at Kakeru being alive. Overlaps with Heartwarming.
  • Kakeru's trauma from the pain he endured as his older brother watches in Chapter 67. Overlaps with Nightmare Fuel.
  • Kakeru losing his right leg after Andou cuts off his right leg with a chainsaw as Uruma could do nothing but watch the scene as he is being restrained by Miguel. Overlaps with Nightmare Fuel.
  • Shirakawa Jun's realization at what his hatred towards Uruma did to Kakeru leads him to apologizing to Uruma for causing his younger brother to suffer.
  • What is arguably the SADDEST MOMENT of the manga is the ending of Chapter 74. When Jun lost two of the rounds of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to Uruma, Momoki wheels a lifeless Kaname missing a right arm and a left leg to the two boys. This can be very shocking for many readers who have grown attached to the character, from her kind demeanor to her relationship with Uruma. Overlaps with Nightmare Fuel.
  • Jun hugging a lifeless Kaname in Chapter 75. When she didn't respond, he was so devastated that he attempted to punch Kyou in retaliation for hurting his sister, only for Andou to grab his wrist before he ever had a chance to lay his hands on Kyou. In addition, Jun ends up having his life on the line as he is forced to participate in another round of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with Uruma. Overlaps with Nightmare Fuel.
  • Oota's tears at the shock of Uruma's true colors from Anzai's voice recorder. Because of this, she is more than determined to stop Uruma from committing more of his crimes.
  • Chapter 80 reveals Gramps' backstory: he was a Kitayama Corps soldier who was not only trained to become an assassin, but also partake in deadly missions during World War II. Because of his "arrogance" his entire family, including his son, would ostracize him for his actions. Even forcing his grandsons to stay away from him is just as tragic.
  • Although it doubles as heartwarming, the scene in which Uruma and Kakeru thanked their grandfather for the orange he gave them is pretty sad as it shows that, for the first time in his life ever since he joined a deadly war, that someone would accept him for who he is.
  • Although a minor one, Chapter 81 shows how scared Jun is of losing his life as he's still tied up to a chair...
  • Gramps' sacrifice for Kakeru as Andou is about to kill his younger grandson with a chainsaw. Despite overlapping with Nightmare Fuel in terms of the violence that we see, it is mostly heartbreaking as Gramps is eventually killed off by Andou, causing Uruma to finally break down crying next to his grandfather. What really doesn't help is how Gramps admitted that Shun was the first person to ever befriended him in his life ever since he became a monster before thanking the teenager, eventually passing on to the afterlife...Unfortunately, this would soon be followed by Kyou slashing across Kakeru's right shoulder, killing the young boy as it puts all the effort Gramps put in to save Kakeru down the drain...
  • The moment Uruma lost everyone he loved, he immediately becomes depressed as a monsterous Nogi repeatedly kicks Uruma in the head belittling him for his failure to save his entire family. Eventually, Uruma DOES SPRING BACK INTO ACTION AGAINST THE RESEARCHERS, although the idea of a teenager losing his entire family is pretty depressing.
  • The ending in Chapter 84. Although overlapping with Nightmare Fuel, it can be just as sad as Uruma has finally descended into madness, wanting to kill Kyou for the mess he had put him and his family through...
  • Chapter 86
    • The entire premise of the chapter. Not only did Uruma fail to take his revenge on one of his bullies for the first time, but he never got the chance to avenge his murdered family....
    • Uruma laying next to his family's corpses. He looked so sad that he didn't even do anything.
    • Oota's treatment of Shun. The moment she and Shun meet again, she doesn't even bother treating him like another criminal before arresting him.
    • THE ENDING OF THE CHAPTER. This chapter takes us back to the beginning in which Uruma says the same thing, confirming that the beginning of chapter 1 takes place at the same time as the ending of chapter 86, showing that most of the events in the manga happened before that chapter. Worse, it shows how much despair Uruma is in after failing to take his revenge on Kyou for what he did to his family...
  • Chapter 94
    • After the timeskip, Azuma is relived to find Uruma again, especially after he saved her again from a would-be rapist… only to find out Uruma has gotten amnesia.
  • Chapter 96-97
    • Just everything about Tetta Akamatsu. As a little kid, his parents died and his grandfather was the only one he had left. One day, his grandfather gifted him a gaming pc he always wanted that he bought from a “friend”, but didn’t realized he’s been scammed with an older and useless model, but Tetta doesn’t have it in him to disappoint his grandfather and accepts the gift. The his grandfather starts rambling if “Self-Revolution”, much to Tetta’s confusion. At school, he’s bullied over his “bad smell” and his grandfather been seen as crazy. When he comes home, Tetta finds his grandfather cheerfully begging a neighbor for food. Tetta calls him out on this and explodes over their lack of money, the bullying he goes through because of this, and reveals the gaming pc he got was all a scam. Tetra implores his grandfather to cut out this “friend” for tricking him, but this only earned him a hard Bitch Slap and orders his grandson to never talk badly of his friend. Tetra’s response is to run to the bathroom and cry.
    • Then he meets his grandfather’s friend, who turns out to be Gonda, a member of Kyou’s cult. Gonda tells them out blank that the grandfather owes him a lot of money and orders Tetta to work in his place, who then threatens to call the police if they don’t comply. Tetta is horrified by this threat but even more so by his grandfather’s blond loyalty to Gonda. The kid works long hours at his job, and Gonda would regularly beat him up for any tiny flaw his or his grandfather did. All his grandfather would do is to take one look and walk away. Two months later, he’s still living under Gonda’s hellish abuse, who takes up a notch by ordering him to bath in his own shit, and beats him up more just because Tetta vomited over Gonda’s threats. Tetta is nearly on the brink of death by Gonda’s beatings and his grandfather suddenly leaps out of nowhere and pounces onto Gonda in a last ditch effort to save his grandson. Gonda simply throws him against the wall and kills him. He simply walks away while calling them disgusting, why Tetta holds onto his dying grandfather. His grandfather’s last act his to hold Tetta’s face and insist he’ll make more bread crust like he used to before everything went bad for them, then drops his hand. Small wonder he goes to Juujika to order a hit on Gonda, with the rest of the team readily agreeing to his request.
  • The entire Jun arc can be said about this. If anything, the reason why this arc had happened is due to the death of Kaname Shirakawa. Had that not happened, one wonders how Jun would have turned out if that wasn't the case...
    • After Uruma meets Kaname at the clinic, memories of his times with her resurfaces. Hoping to reconnect with her, he asks her if she is called "Kaname Shirakawa", only for the girl to reveal that her last name is Matsushima. This only confirmed that Kaname did indeed die five years ago.
    • During the consultation with Kitami, Kaname Matsushima revealed that she is in an abusive relationship with Jun Shirakawa, who Uruma is unaware of due to having to stepping out to answer a phone call from someone.
    • Fast forward to when Kitami and Kawana were unable to help Kaname with her situation. Because of this, they ask Kaname to talk to her family about her situation, despite their lack of awareness of the fact that her mother had passed away. This causes Kaname to look down while thinking about her mother for a moment. Too bad that Kitami and Kawana's inability to help Kaname would cause her situation with Jun to worsen...
    • As soon as Jun mentions Kaname's death, Uruma becomes slightly upset by it, knowing that Momoki had killed her many years ago...
    • A slight one overlapping with a [[Heartwarming heartwarming]] moment. When Jun tells Uruma that Kaname Shirakawa really liked him, it shows how much of an impact she left on their lives.
    • Upon meeting with Kitami and Kawana, Uruma reveals that he can't trust Jun as he was escorted by Kyou and Andou to evade the police on the day that Uruma was arrested 5 years ago. Seeing the smirk on Kyou's face, Uruma knew that by the time he met Jun again, the friend that he once saw in him is long gone. One must wonder how it felt to have lost a friend to darkness...
    • As soon as the child named, "Jun" at the Matsushima household ad-libbed the word, "Help" to Uruma, the child immediately told Uruma that his mother in in the second floor room at the far corner, to where Uruma ran into, only to discover the corpse of Mrs. Matsushima. Mr. Matsushima then ran to where the corpse of his late wife is at before breaking down and revealing to Uruma that Jun Shirakawa is his master before revealing that they met him as soon as his wife started joining the revolutionary club, causing the entire family to follow her to the seminar. Ever since then, Kaname Matsushima couldn't revert her face back to what it was like prior to meeting Jun, causing his wife to commit suicide. The poor man then started crying as he couldn't let his master (or slaver) know or else he would be in deep trouble. As soon as the child discovers his mother's corpse, he broke down into tears, causing Uruma to be angry at Jun for what he did to the Matsushima family.
