Vester and friends
(VAF for short) is a plush series of
YouTube videos from Australia that features
Mario among others, portrayed by plushes.
This series provides examples of:
- Absurd Phobia: Red Yoshi is horrified of Minecraft.
- Abusive Parents: Yellow Yoshi bullies and berates his son far too often.
- Adaptational Dumbass: Bowser, King Dedede, Toad, Wario, Wallace and Woody . Bowser cares more about watching kid shows than doing anything evil and and can’t even answer basic math equations, Dedede always talks about lunchboxes, Toad has a creepy crush on Koopa and wears man diapers because he can’t use the toilet , Wario is a walking Toilet Humor joke rather than using it occasionally like his canon self and Woody and Wallace are both talkative loons.
- Adaptational Jerkass: The show has these in spades. The Yoshis range from sociopathic pranksters to psychotic ex-wives. Mario and Luigi go from loving siblings to spite filled rivals who bicker too much and Deadpool goes from a 4th wall breaking wisecracker to a heartless murderous thug who’s a far cry from his original self to name a few.
- Adaptational Villainy: Deadpool goes from an anti hero to a very merciless thug.
- Asian Speekee Engrish: Yellow Yoshi and Yellow Yoshi Jr speak replacing Ls for Rs. For example, lose becomes roose.
- Author Avatar: Blue Yoshi and Shurreto. The latter of which is a plush form of The creator's avatar, and name is Japanese for shadow, which is the creator's allias. Meanwhile, the former is the creator's self insert of his life , an example being Blue Yoshi and Isabelle breaking up to reflect a relationship problem Shadow the creator had
- Berserk Button:
- Do not accuse Bowser of watching kid shows on his iPad or else he will bug you.
- The mere existance of the Bob the Builder reboot or Emma , Lachy or Simon Wiggle will also peeve Bowser off.
- Don't call Mario a fat Italian plumber or else he will yell at you for it.
- In a episode of Mario Sports Mix related Plush Gaming, Waluigi learns the hard way not to call Donkey Kong a stinky zoo animal as the latter beats the former up and screams monkey noises at him.
- Isabelle will beat you up if you call her Isabella or the b-word as Purple Yoshi will attest to or Gromit.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: The Chocolate Master (until he stopped appearing only to return to have a Heel–Face Turn), Bowser, and Deadpool. Mostly Deadpool as he threatens to plunge Vesterland In despair and threatens to kill the cast at times.
- Big Bad Wannabe: Mickey Mouse tries to buy Vesterland to enslave everyone and build an amusement park , but Blue Yoshi rejects his offers everytime. That being said however, Mickey is still a threat as he tries to buy other things to ruin people's lives and even keeps Deadpool in check as Mickey owns his franchise.
- Big "SHUT UP!": Mario has this reaction whenever he hears Link's horrible singing.
- Butt-Monkey: Link and Bowser. They are usually made fun of by the cast and Link often gets beat up by Mario.
- Catchphrase: Many people have them.
- Shy Guy: "Wow Wow."
- Red Yoshi: "Praaaaaaaanking."
- Mario: "Oh great."
- Mario also commonly says "You Idiot Link!" when Link messes something up.
- Dedede: "I like lunchbox."
- Cats Are Mean: Vester the cat is corrupt, rude, greedy, and arrogant. An example would be him not caring that his friends might have died at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: The Chocolate Master stopped appearing after 2015. He returned in 2021 in a new plush form as he was previously a man under a blue blanket. He previously came back in the movie to defeat Deadpool
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: King Dedede always talks about lunchboxes despite not knowing what a lunchbox is. On one occasion he even called the remote a lunchbox.
- Woody is a silly cowboy who is still in diapers , despite being an adult, and says that he will be in Super Smash Bros. even though he is not from a video game.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment: In a few episodes of Plush Gaming, as punishment for his pranks, Blue Yoshi, Sonic and Link tie up Red Yoshi and force him to play/watch them play Minecraft. Since Red Yoshi is scared of that game, its torture for him.
- The Ditz: Yellow Yoshi Jr and Toad are dumb enough to the point where they can't answer simple math equations.
- Dreadful Musician: Link's dreadful and shrill attempts to sing his theme song results in Mario telling him to shut up.
- On an episode of Plush Shorts, it is revealed that Spongebob, Toad and Bowser are also awful singers as the three of them plus Link try to sing the Super Mario World theme which results in Mario saying that his ears hurt.
- Entertainment Below Their Age: Bowser loves watching kid shows such as Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! and Teletubbies on his iPad. In the case of the former, he even starts dancing to the intro.
- Evil Laugh: Mickey Mouse has two of these.
- "Haw-Ho."
- "WOO-HOO WOO-HOO!"
- Gasshole: Wario's farts have been declared as nuclear weapons.
- Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Vester the cat only wears a red baseball cap with shades.
- Heel–Face Turn: The Chocolate Master comes back from the dead and changes his evil ways to defeat Deadpool once and for alll.
- Interspecies Romance: Blue Yoshi (a dinosaur) and Isabelle (a dog) were dating for a long while. This lasted until Total Drama Plush R: Aftermath where they broke up to avoid Purple Yoshi further damaging Isabelle's mental health.
- Less Embarrassing Term: When others call the shows Bowser watches kids shows (because they are), he claims the shows are for adults. In one example during an episode of Plush Gaming, when Isabelle calls Bob the Builder a kid show, Bowser calls it an adult show and its rated 18+.
- Malicious Misnaming: Among the names people call Link are "Peter Pan", "Pajama Boy", "Elsa Pan", and on one occasion, "Linky Winky".
- Mayor Pain: Vester the cat is the selfish, greedy and lazy mayor of Vesterland. He often embezzles money from his citizens.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Mario usually beats up Link for making problems worse. On one occasion he beats up Link for losing to Bowser and Bowser Jr to a video game.
- Only Sane Man: Mario and Blue Yoshi live in a world filled with oddballs. They usually play the Straight Man in the plush gaming videos.
- Out of Focus: Aside from a select few, most of the secondaries from the 2016-2020 era have vanished in 2023. Wallace, King Dedede, Mickey Mouse, The Koopalings, The Inklings, Bowser Junior , Nabbit, Dry Bones, Ash Ketchum and Silver to name a few.
- The Pigpen: While it isn't visible, White Yoshi hasn't showered in years.
- Potty Failure: Woody often proclaims he crapped in his adult diaper and never makes it to the bathroom on time.
- The Prankster: Red Yoshi pulls pranks that humiliate the other characters. For example, he deletes Yellow Yoshi's study notes and disrupts Blue Yoshi and Isabelle's private time by showing them Brum.
- Protagonist and Friends: Vester may not be the main character, but it still has an -and friends suffix.
- Record Needle Scratch: Two varations of the sound are frequently used throughout the show. A short one used during small awkward moments like Wario farting or saying something inappropriate, and a slightly longer one used for big awkward moments like Toad kissing someone or Bowser watching kid shows.
- The Shut-In: Bowser only stays inside watching kid shows on his iPad. Only wanting to go outside if there is a Mr. Whippy ice cream truck going past the house.
- Sibling Rivalry: Luigi and Mario always call each other "Skinny whinny" or "Fat Italian plumber."
- Start of Darkness: Deadpool used to be just one of the guys until Mario banished him for being a mature character. Since then he has been trying to take Vesterland into despair.
- Straight Man and Wise Guy: Almost all of the Plush Gaming videos have this sort of paring . Here are three examples.
- Yellow Yoshi (Straight Man) and Toad (Wise Guy). In the episode where they play Mario Golf Toad annoys Yellow Yoshi by kissing him and telling him about his crush on Koopa.
- Isabelle (Straight Man) and Bowser (Wise Guy). In the episode where they play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bowser annoys Isabelle by talking about his favorite kid shows like Bob the Builder and Bear in the Big Blue House.
- Link (Straight Man) and Woody (Wise Guy). Where they play Just Dance Woody dances like crazy to Let It Go to the dismay of Link.
- Suckiness Is Painful: On an episode of Plush Gaming. Bowser forces Dry Bones to watch him play My Friend Peppa Pig. The Skeleton Koopa ends up so tortured by the gameplay that he steals the controller from the Koopa King and closes the game.
- Toilet Humor: As always, Wario constantly talks about pooping on the toilet , farting or shoving things up his butt.
- Unmanly Secret: Bowser watches kid shows and gets humiliated when the others walk in on him. For example, in Sonic's Revenge , he watches Dora the Explorer and gets embarrassed when Sonic sees him.
- Would Hurt a Child: Deadpool shoots or threatens to shoot Toad or Baby Mario multiple times. Both of which are children. All without a dent in Deadpools mind.
- Would Rather Suffer: In Baby Mario's Sleepover, the babies ask Mario if they could have a sleepover. He refuses and says he would rather clean the public toilets then host one. Upon seeing Wario finish making a "Whopper" in the bathroom who then asks if anyone would like to clean his "Kinder Surprise" up, Mario says he will host the sleepover after all.
