Web Video / Danganronpa: When All Your Waifus are Dead

Go To

Being trapped in a Killing Game is hard. Trying to find a waifu that won't die by the next chapter is even harder. Join Succi, Makoto the Filthy Idol Killer, and Hajimemes as they try to find a waifu before the game gets them too.

Danganronpa: When All Your Waifus are Dead is a series of YouTube videos created by NeedAnotherName, essentially retelling the events of the Danganronpa games from the perspectives of the protagonists trying to find a Love Interest. Hijinks, heartbreak, and sexual fantasies ensue.

At the time of writing, the creator has also begun work on a series of videos for Ultra Despair Girls.

As this series and its humour heavily rely on knowledge of the games, spoilers below are unmarked.

This series contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: By virtue of Shuichi being Miu's actual murderer, Gonta never gets to kill her or attempt to Mercy Kill his remaining classmates. One might argue that Miu gets hit with this too due to dying as a result of having sex with Shuichi rather than attempting to kill a classmate and being Out-Gambitted as in canon.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Ambiguously Bi in canon Hajime drops the ambiguity at the very beginning of Danganronpa 2: when all your waifus are dead when he expresses very enthusiastic interest in being surrounded by "top tier waifus and husbandos".
  • Adaptational Villainy: Shuichi is Miu's actual murderer with Gonta being killed to prevent the loss of two protagonists. He also joins Tsumugi at the end to kill everyone, especially because it'll mean becoming her sex slave.
  • all lowercase letters: Most of the times, the dialogue is all written in lowercase letters.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
    • Shuichi is desperate for a waifu, but also considers dating Kaito at one point (though Maki nips that in the bud).
    • Makoto considers looking for a husbando after Sayaka and Mukuro's deaths, but immediately shoots the thought down after remembering that he is straight.
    • Averted with Hajime, who explicitly shows interest in both genders.
  • Author Appeal: Briefly alluded to when Hajime and Mikan share a tender moment — NeedAnotherName reveals via onscreen text that they ship the two.
  • But Not Too Bi: Hajime goes both ways, but mostly seems to hit on girls (namely Chiaki and Mikan). Granted, his primary male option happens to be Nagito.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Monokuma reveals Sakura as the traitor
Monokuma: I just wanted to introduce you to the traitor within your group, Miss Cardcaptor Sakura
Aoi: what?! No way... Sakura would never become a magical cardcaptor!
    [Beat]
Monokuma: i'll just ignore your stupidity and continue.
  • Crack Fic: Each video is pretty much a cracky retelling of each game
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Junko may be a Satanic Archetype, but even she is disgusted by the cast forcing her to watch "Loli Hentai" in an attempt to get her to come out of hiding. Likewise, Monokuma is disturbed by the students refering to the executions as their sexual fantasies.
  • "Everybody Dies" Ending: Played for laughs in both the THH and V3 videos, where the school is blown up with the remaining students still in it.
  • Flipping the Bird: Kaede's ghost does this to Shuichi after seeing that he has moved on from her death quite fast. She does it again after the school is blown up, since Shuichi had attempted a Face–Heel Turn right beforehand.
  • The Ghost: Ryoma in the V3 video, as the only thing known about him there is that Kirumi killed him off-screen. In fact, Ryoma is so far the only Danganronpa character to not appear in any of the videos.
  • Insistent Terminology: Byakuya refers to Makoto exclusively as a "filthy idol killer", due to the belief that he was the one that killed Sayaka. This continues long after it's proven that Leon was the one who killed Sayaka. Overlaps with Malicious Misnaming
  • Last-Name Basis: Sayaka, Kiyotaka and Byakuya are only addressed to as "Maizono", "Ishimaru" and "Togami" by the other characters.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: A disturbing variant — when Shuichi considers making Korekiyo’s Sister persona his new waifu (yes really), Kiyo is furious… because he wants his "sister" all to himself.
  • The Quiet One: In all three videos there's always a character that gets little to no lines. In the V3 one it's Himiko, in the Trigger Happy Havoc one is Yasuhiro, whose only line in the whole video is "makoto is the killer", and in the Goodbye Despair one it's Akane, whose only line consists in lampshading how that one is going to be the only time the viewers will see her talk.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Junko/Monokuma reaches her's after Makoto tricks her into telling him her real identity
Monokuma: BURN IN HELL YOU MOTHERFUCKIN UNLUCKY BITCH ASS WEEB CUNT SHIT EATING CUCK WITH A DICK FOR A FUCKING ANTENNA! AND NO FRIENDS YOU VIRGIN WAIFU STALKING SMELLY MOTHERHUMPIN CRACK SNIFFIN DOG RAPING PRICK SUCKING GOBLIN MOLESTING DWARF TWERKING KID VORING CUCK! I HOPE YOU FUCKING DIE A VIRGIN! IM GONNA CIRCUMCISE YOUR SHITTY ANTENNA HA-
  • Recursive Fanfiction: Before NeedAnotherName released their Danganronpa 2 videos, an explicitly non-canon version was made by Izziel Baksai, which took a lot of influence from the past videos and made use of their Running Gags. When NeedAnotherName released the official Act 1 of Danganronpa 2, they gave Izziel Baksai a shoutout.
  • Running Gag: Whenever someone is killed, it is punctuated by the character in question going "ouch now I'm dead lol."
  • Sequel Escalation: Each video gets longer and more expansive with each iteration. V3 is 8-and-a-half minutes long and only used the original game sprites. THH is 15-and-a-half minutes long and used some animations with 8-bit sprites. Goodbye Despair is 6 videos long.
  • Shipper on Deck: Onscreen text reveals that Chiaki and Hajime are Nagito's OTP and sexual fantasy.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Played for Laughs most of the time, but played straight with Hajime and Mikan, since NeedAnotherName ships them.
    • As in canon, Sonia and Gundham have quite a few of these, though here it’s mostly on Sonia’s side.
    • When Twogami dies, Ibuki is the only one of the students who’s really upset.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Nagito is a self-proclaimed "Hinata-sexual."
  • Something Else Also Rises: Hajime gets "so goddamn aroused" when he wakes up on Jabberwock Island and finds himself surrounded by "top-tier waifus and husbandos". This is visualized through his ahoge sticking straight up and being pixelated.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Every time someone is executed, the victim usually claims that their execution method is, in fact, their sexual fantasy.
  • The Unintelligible: Ibuki speaks in piano keyboard sounds.
  • Villainous Crush:
    • Monokuma, and by extension Junko, has one on Byakuya. He calls him his favorite student and husbando.
    • Insofar as he counts as a villain, Nagito has one on Hajime.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Kyoko towards Makoto. She even shoots Junko when she attacks him, though she doesn't manage to kill her.
  • You Just Told Me: How Makoto tricks Junko into outing herself as the one controlling Monokuma.
Makoto: You fool, this is my sexual fantasy, I always wanted to be stepped on by a sexy, despair-obsessed high school girl.
Monokuma: How the hell did you figure out my identity?
Makoto: I didn’t, so thanks for telling me.
