YMMV / Danganronpa: When All Your Waifus are Dead

Go To

  • Awesome Moments:
    • Makoto actually has a proper (8-bit) final battle with Junko. Kyoko assists, though it's the Ultimate Hope that beats the Ultimate Despair by literally dropping a giant HOPE on her!
    • Hajime (with assistance from Chiaki) has his own final battle against Kamukura. At the end, Hajime gets a lucky shot in that completely depletes Kamukura's health bar.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Nagito’s discussion with Komaru in Ultra Despair Girls Part 1 about the “sexual fantasy” Running Gag points out that only Ultimates will go along with the gag while normies won’t. This actually explains why the gag never began in the V3 video, because none of that cast are Ultimates.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Even a predominantly comedy series can have legitimate moments:
    • In a moment of emotional vulnerability unseen in canon, Kyoko outright asks to be Makoto's waifu. Makoto's incredibly touched, and while he (initially) rejects her, it's only because he doesn't want her to get hurt like Sayaka and 'Junko' were. By the end though, he's openly declaring her his waifu in the narration. She, in turn, openly refers to him as her husbando during the battle with Junko.
    • In the fourth chapter of Goodbye Despair, Chiaki takes a moment to reassure Hajime when he has doubts about possibly being a 'normie'.
    • A small example, but when Hajime and Chiaki share a tender moment, a caption appears saying "Nagito's OTP and sexual fantasy". Given that Nagito made it no secret that he's obsessed with Hajime, the implications here are oddly sweet.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Junko mind raping Hajime in DR 2 Act 6. It has its humorous aspects ("Cumukura Yas Queen!") but this is undermined by the genuinely disturbing elements, such as the creepy, 3D Junko dancing around like a puppet and Hajime, in a blood-red background, watching in horror as Izuru Kamukura's image surrounds him.
