Sonic vs. MLP is a series of parodies that matches the cast of the Sonic the Hedgehog video games with their supposed G4 My Little Pony counterparts made by AnimatedJames on YouTube. Only four episodes have been made, each one full of humor.
The battles currently go as follows:
- Sonic vs. Rainbow Dash (A race across the country)
- Tails vs. Twilight Sparkle (Starts out as a Magic Versus Science battle, but soon turns into an Escalating Brawl.)
- Amy Rose vs. Pinkie Pie (Starts as a Flame War, but turns into another brawl.)
- Knuckles vs. Applejack (An Olympics-esque competition.)
This work provides examples of:
- Amusing Injuries: Everyone who's even been near the race between Sonic and Dash has suffered some injury, even the two who start off the race (Fluttershy and Cream, who get their hair and ears torn off respectively when the racing duo jets past them).
- Ass Shove: Pinkie and Amy are cheerleaders in the race. When the two speed demons pass them, Pinkie gets her head jammed into a tree trunk. You'll never guess where the entire upper half of Amy's body gets jammed... Ever since then, she refuses to talk about it.
- While Tails and Twilight heal from their injuries (which Tails referred to as "odd"), a unicorn sticks her horn into Tails' rear as hard as she could to heal him.
- Berserk Button: Don't say anything sexist around Applejack, or she'll try to kill you. Knuckles, had he not been super, would have found this out the hard way.
- Whatever you do, do not slap Pinkie Pie.
- Bittersweet Ending: The race between Sonic and Rainbow Dash ends in a draw, with everyone else either dead or mortally injured.
- Curbstomp Battle: The arm/hoof-wrestling match between Applejack and Knuckles, in which the former wins the moment the match begins. Knuckles returns the favor during the Iron-Pony Competition, but not before turning super.
- Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Pinkie says Sonic cheated by turning Super, to which Amy replies by saying that Rainbow Dash cheated by cutting down a mountain Sonic was parkouring on, electrocuted him over a volcano, and caused an avalanche with a Sonic Rainboom.
- Knuckles finds all the Chaos Emeralds and proceeds to beat Applejack at the Iron-Pony Competition out of spite. Losing an arm-wrestle match really pissed him off...
- Downer Ending: The three-round bout between Applejack and Knuckles ends with a brutally injured Applejack being carried away by a disappointed cast. Knuckles thinks she deserves it.
- Eye Scream: Twilight's eyes were on fire when Sonic and RD finally crossed the finish line.
- When Rainbow Dash shatters a diamond that Rouge and Rarity were carrying, Rouge gets 2 large fragments jammed into both eyes. Ouch.
- Rainbow herself gets this. When she speeds toward the finish line ala Sonic Rainboom, she pops a blood vessel in her left eye. She wants to win that much.
- Failure Is the Only Option: This.Sonic: Loo-look, ladies, can't we just compromise and say that we tied?Amy: Well, I'm pretty sure you're wrong.Rainbow Dash: Did you actually think they'd compromise?Sonic: (keeping the gesture from his last shot) No, but it was worth a shot.
- Flipping the Bird: Sonic does this when he passes over Rainbow Dash.
- Vinyl Scratch and Vector's response to a boombox playing Knuckles' theme being smashed...by Knuckles.
- Flame War: The fight between Amy and Pinkie Pie starts out as this. Then Amy slaps Pinkie... and you know the drill.
- Gory Discretion Shot: Twilight and Tails's injuries from the race between Sonic and Dash.
- Insult Backfire:Amy: You mean besides destroy the Death Egg, defeat a giant liquid dildo, fly through an Earth god's brain, and kill two genies? Should I go on, or do you feel dumb enough?Pinkie Pie: Yeah, and how many of those achievements were actually canon?
- Laser-Guided Karma: Knuckles laughs when Applejack is pinned against a rock by a cactus, but soon gets that same cactus bucked through his torso.In the episode where he's pit against Applejack, he starts off mocking her for driving the cactus through his torso. He then challenges her to an arm/hoof-wrestling competition, which he lost...instantly.
- Last-Second Word Swap: An innocent variation with Applejack.Applejack: (singing) We're apples to the-(Knuckles bursts in, slamming the barn door open)Applejack: ...door.
- Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Sonic and Rainbow Dash after they nearly killed their friends.
- Magic Versus Science: The former half of the bout between Twilight and Tails. Then Twilight hits him in the face with a laser from her horn...
- Medium Awareness: When Pinkie gets an idea, she fires the generated light bulb above her head at Amy via her Party Cannon, then proceeds to fire herself out of the cannon. It fails, as Amy knocks Pinkie in the air at the last second. Perhaps this was the plan, because when Amy and Pinkie are shown in split screen, Pinkie pulls Amy through the border and resumes fighting her.
- Miss Swears-A-Lot: This little exchange between Knuckles and Applejack (who just found out Knux was cheating).Applejack: Not so fast, you shit-eating, COW-FUCKING COCKSUCKER!!!Knuckles: (Very surprised, as well as everyone else)...Jesus.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Callously averted with Knuckles, who knocked a pissed off Applejack into a tree. He's still mad at her for ramming a cactus through him.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Subverted in the fight between Knuckles and Applejack. After hearing a blatantly sexist comment from the former, the latter tries to do this, but she can't touch him. Knuckles pretty much Falcon Punches her into a tree as hard as he can.
- Precision F-Strike: Amy and Pinkie deliver one to each over.
- Knuckles delivers one to Applejack in the beginning of their bout. In her rage that comes much later on, Applejack refers to Chaos Emeralds, which Knuckles used to cheat, as "Chaos Thingymafuckers."
- Shout-Out: Knuckles' montage theme from his fight against Applejack is a mixture between music from one of the Sonic Adventure games and altered lyrics from The Fresh Prince.
- Tails Can Breathe in Space: He's sent to the moon a la Princess Celestia.
- Take That!: Amy vs Pinkie to the Youtubers who argue over who won between Sonic and Rainbow Dash.
- The Derp: Who else but Derpy Hooves? Big is technically her counterpart, but he doesn't do anything. For no real reason, Derpy crashes through Big's boat, which causes the both of them to drown.
- Unexplained Recovery: After merging beams of magic and technology (which explode in the users' faces), Tails and Twilight are seen in a crater with visible chunks of fur and skin missing from their bodies. When they get up in the next scene, they're fine.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Everyone's (sans Knuckles) reaction to Knuckles knocking out Applejack.
