Trivia / Worms

Go To

  • Cash-Cow Franchise: For Team17, especially during Turn of the Millennium, when the games were releasing at least once a year and very little of their production was not related to Worms (At least until early 10's, when the company started prioritising publishing duties for indie developers).
  • Development Hell: A 3D Worms 5 did officially enter development shortly before the release of Worms 4: Mayhem, but never progressed beyond the early planning stages, with the developers trying various ways of adapting the series' formula to 3D gameplay, but never finding anything they liked. With the series reinvigorated in the early 2010s by a new 2½D style, Team17 finally pulled the plug on Worms 5 around 2014 and have since confirmed that there will never, ever be another fully-3D Worms game.
  • Dueling Games: Armageddon vs. Hogs of War. Armageddon won by a landslide becoming one of the most beloved computer games of all time, though to the credit of Hogs Of War it has since become a Cult Classic.
  • Franchise Zombie: Worms Armageddon was going to be the last in the series during its development and was also the last to involve the series creator Andy Davidson, who departed due to Creative Differencesnote . Armageddon was extremely successful and is still the most well-acclaimed entry, so the series would eventually continue with the release of World Party, followed by more games down the line.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Worms 4: Mayhem is a particular case, as the game got an Updated Re-release as Worms: Ultimate Mayhem, which includes content from Worms 3D, updated graphics and better compatibility with modern systems, but also a few differences such as a completely new soundtrack and voice acted cutscenes, whereas the annellids in the original Worms 4 spoke with their signature "me-me" language. Very nostalgic players who care more about the original experience rather than technical improvements will have a hard time finding copies of the old Worms 4 since it hasn't seen yet a digital release.
  • Port Overdosed: The very first Worms game was ported to just about every contemporary game system of its era with few exceptions, like Virtual Boy and Sega 32X (A ports that were planned at some point, but scrapped).
  • Pre-Order Bonus:
    • Worms Reloaded comes with extra maps, bonus hats, a discounted price and early access for preorders. There was also an exclusive hat for the Soldier in Team Fortress 2, the Lumbricus Lid that replaced his usual grenades with Holy Hand Grenades. It even plays the same Halelujah sound clip should you perform the suicide taunt with The Equalizer.
    • Those who preordered Worms Revolution on Steam got a free copy of Armageddon, alongside various cosmetics for the main game.
    • Worms WMD came with All Stars Pack which included hats, vehicles, weapons and few missions from other video games. Specifically All of it's content became available to everyone later on.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
  • Referenced by...: The Henry Stickmin Series has several references to Worms.
    • At the end of the earpiece route of Infiltrating the Airship, the government's helicopter can shoot a banana bomb at the Toppat's airship.
    • In the Bounty/Operative route of Completing the Mission, Henry can use the Suicide Bomber attack from Worms Armageddon against the Right Hand Man. He will even leave a tombstone.
    • At the beginning of the Executive/Dead route of Completing the Mission, Henry can use a ninja rope to climb a cliff. The game will then suddenly have Worms Armageddon's physics.
