Ship Sinking / Western Animation

Go To

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender.
    • Mike and Bryan had no love for the Katara/Zuko (Zutara) pairing. They confirmed in the commentaries for the third season DVD box set that the Official Couples (Katara/Aang and Mai/Zuko) were always the plan from the beginning, noting that "[the Zutarians] are probably mad right now." In the "Sozin's Comet" novelization interview, according to Mike, Zutara was never intended and any moments between them were from the fans applying Shipping Goggles, with Bryan additionally saying, "Come on, kids! 'Zutara' never would have lasted! It was just dark and intriguing."
    • Toph/Sokka ("Tokka"), a popular Beta Couple to Aang/Katara, was sunk in the second half of Season 3 when Sokka reunited with Suki. To add insult to injury, it was made clear the previous season that Toph had developed a one-sided crush on Sokka.
    • Sokka and Yue got shot down early on, given how the latter died and turned into the moon.
    • Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Search all but sunk the popular Ty Lee/Azula (Tyzula) ship. It jossed many fanworks by showing that Ty Lee completely fears Azula and is not on pleasant terms with her post-series, avoiding her completely. For Azula's part, her voice actress maintains that the Fire Nation princess does (or at least did) have a crush on her former friend.
  • The Legend of Korra:
    • Word of God officially obliterated Bolin/Asami (or "Bosami").
Michael DiMartino: One thing you can always expect from Avatar is a little romance... and Bolin is really trying to find his way in life and love, which leads him into an awkward relationship with Eska. Asami will always be a friend. I don’t think there’s romance in the cards for them.
    • Mako/Korra ("Makorra"), were made an Official Couple in the Book 1 finale. However, in the Book 2 finale, it was unexpectedly sunk when Mako and Korra agreed that they weren't right for one another, and broke up "for real this time". However, Makorra began taking on water as early as the first few episodes of Book 2, when Korra and Mako struggled with fighting, Korra's Avatar duties, and the gradual souring of their romance.
    • Also in Book 2, Bolin/Eska ("Boleska") was sunk twice: first when Bolin got fed up with Eska's abuse and fled on the night of their wedding, and a second time in the finale, when they realize that their reconciliation was a thing that happened in the spur of the moment and that their relationship wouldn't work despite their feelings for each other.
    • Book Three has Makorra and Masami both tanked, with both girls joking and laughing about the entire awkward situation (Mako thoroughly embarrassed and subsequently very awkward around both of them), the entire fiasco seemingly bringing the two closer together. Both ships are outright destroyed in the Grand Finale, with the final scene of the series being Korra and Asami, hand-in-hand and gazing into each others' eyes, going on a spirit world vacation together, which is enthusiastically confirmed by Word of God to be them starting a relationship.
  • Adventure Time:
    • Three seasons were spent alternately teasing and sinking Finn/Bubblegum, with Finn sporting an enormous Precocious Crush on her but Bubblegum not showing any romantic interest in him, despite them getting progressively closer over the seasons. "Too Young" is the pinnacle, with most of the episode depicting them having adorable bonding moments, only to swerve into a sinking ending. The ship was sliced in two with the "Incendium"/"Hot to the Touch" two-parter and Finn's new crush on Flame Princess, then sunk to the bottom of the ocean when Finn states in "Burning Low" that he doesn't have feelings for Bubblegum anymore and wants to move on to his new relationship with Flame Princess. It's been refloated occasionally since, most especially in "Too Old" and "Breezy", but only to confirm Finn's feelings haven't magically gone away and that Bubblegum still has no interest.
    • Finn/Marceline was often proposed as an alternative to Finn/Bubblegum. Cue the episode "Go With Me", which shows they do not have any romantic feelings for the other. Shippers of Finn/Marceline, though, ignored this and continued shipping them. What finally caused a death blow was the slow and steady reveal that Marceline was in a relationship, and is still pining, after Bubblegum. Culminating in the two royals kissing in the series finale.
    • The canon Finn/Flame Princess ship was sunk in "Earth and Water" when she breaks up with him for breaking her trust, and in "The Red Throne", FP once again rejects Finn and reiterates that she's no longer interested in him. It didn't help Finn's case that he caused all sorts of trouble trying to get back into FP's good graces, which basically involved acting very, very immature and Cinnamon Bun, of all people, ended up saving the day and declaring his (platonic, according to Word of God) love for Flame Princess. At least, Finn and FP are back on good terms in "Bun Bun", though. There were hints at the ship being refloated in several episodes thereafter, but it ultimately never came to be. Finn/Flame Princess (or Flinn) remains the most popular ship in the fanbase, and many were disappointed when they had zero interactions in the series finale.
  • In The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, Sheen/Libby was made official near the end of the series, but in the spin-off Planet Sheen they gave him a new love interest, Blue Skinned Space Babe Aseefa.
  • The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes apparently dashed all hope of The Mighty Thor and Dr. Jane Foster becoming a couple after The Vision attacked Jane and The Wasp while searching Avengers Mansion for Captain America's shield. Jane and Wasp barely survived, but Wasp subsequently advised Jane that continuing to date a superhero might prove too dangerous for her.
  • Many Ben 10: Alien Force viewers suspect that Ben/Julie and Gwen/Kevin were designed to drown the oddly popular Ben/Gwen pairing from the original series.
  • The head writer of Code Lyoko confirmed in an interview that there was no romantic affection between Odd and Aelita, and that their relationship was purely platonic, like the cousins that they pretend to be.
  • Codename: Kids Next Door sunk Numbah 1/Numbah 5 when the finale has the latter end up with Numbuh 2, not to mention all the ship tease that occurred between Numbah 1 and Numbah 362 towards the end of the series.
  • Glenn Eichler of Daria has admitted in interviews post-show that he never intended from the beginning for a Daria/Trent relationship to actually be possible. Some fans took the creation of Tom Sloane as an example of ship sinking, but the sinking had already been in action before Tom's conception. Coincidentally, the episode in which Tom was introduced, "Jane's Addition" was also the one that sunk the Daria/Trent ship. The conversation the two have near the end about Trent's failure to provide the music for their school project, is basically stating the reason why the two can't be together ("not good with deadlines" indeed).
  • DC Animated Universe:
    • In Justice League, Batman/Wonder Woman was sunk before the series had even started, with Batman Beyond showing that Bruce stayed a bitter, lonely man into retirement age.
Bruce: When I was young, women used to throw themselves at my feet all the time.
      Terry: What did you do?
      Bruce: Step over them.
      Terry: Smooth.
      Bruce: I thought so.
    • Another one for Wonder Woman: "The Savage Time" sees the League travelling to the 40s and teaming up with various World War II heroes, and Diana was mutually attracted to Steve Trevor. However, they had to cut their romance short because Diana still has to return to the present with her teammates. The last the DCAU sees of Trevor, Diana has to visit him at a retirement home.
    • Batman Beyond also sunk the Dick Grayson/Barbra Gordon ship. She ended up married to some guy who had never even been mentioned before this series. After she dated Bruce. The Batman Beyond 2.0 comic even saw her pregnant with Bruce's child whilst in a relationship with Dick.
  • The creator of Doug, Jim Jinkins, sunk the show's main ship when discussing his ideas for a revival in a 2016 interview. He said Doug and Patti won’t become a couple, saying most of people don’t end up with their first love. Although, Jinkins defended this by saying that not all couples end with a first crush and said a new female friend could be Doug’s new love. A lot of fans prefer to continue shipping the pair regardless.
  • Callum originally had a crush on Claudia in The Dragon Prince season 1, but by the middle of season 2, Callum's trust in Claudia was shattered after she and her brother Soren attempted to directly oppose the main group's trek into Xadia, even addressing her very coldly when using "her magic." In the tie-in book, Callum's Spellbook, a letter can be found that Callum wrote to Claudia before his adventure, but he presently is happy he never had the guts to give her that letter, as he no longer feels the same way. If that weren't bad enough for the Callum/Claudia ship, season 3 launched even more torpedoes at it by not only showing that his feelings have moved on to his traveling friend Rayla, but Rayla reciprocates those feelings and they become an Official Couple by the middle of season 3. Meanwhile, Claudia starts walking down a dark and twisted path by staying loyal to her clearly evil father. There may be a few more intended seasons yet, but for this ship to even have a chance to resurface, Claudia would have to go through a long process of forgiveness, turn against what she has stood for throughout all of seasons 2 and 3, and then remind Callum of why he liked her in the first place, but even then it would still have to compete with the unquestionably most popular ship in the series, which should I remind you, is already canon.
  • The creators of DuckTales (2017) flat out stated that they had zero intention of pairing Webby with any of the triplets, but the ship was officially sunk in the series finale, when it's revealed that she is actually a clone made with Scrooge's DNA, meaning she's their cousin once removed.
  • The Futurama episode "Put Your Head on My Shoulders" torpedoed Fry / Amy.
  • The creator of Final Space, Olan Rogers, said in an AMA that he doesn’t see Little Cato and Ash getting together.
Olan Rogers: I don't think Little Cato and Ash will get together, I see them growing into really good friends. :) -Olan
  • Gravity Falls:
    • "Into the Bunker" sunk the Wendy/Dipper ship canon-wise, though it was made pretty clear up to that point that it was never going to work out anyway.
    • On a minor note, Alex Hirsch himself torpedoed the Candy/Dipper ship when asked by a fan, claiming it was "grasping at straws.". This was given more elaboration in "Roadside Attraction", where Candy actually does develop a crush on Dipper, but he has zero romantic feelings for her and she gets over it by the end of the episode, after an ill-fated date.
  • KaBlam!: Mark Marek (creator of the Henry and June shorts) confirmed that episode 29 (a supposedly series final that had Henry and June reveal their romantic feelings for each other) didn't exist, and he confirmed that Henry and June didn't have romantic feelings for each other and that their relationship was completely platonic.
  • Kaeloo:
    • There were very few Stumpy/Quack Quack shippers in the first place, but the fifteenth episode of the series had Stumpy explicitly state that he would never get in a relationship with Quack Quack and they will always be Heterosexual Life-Partners.
    • In the earlier seasons it was hinted that Stumpy and Pretty had some form of Belligerent Sexual Tension; however, Stumpy ended up in a happy relationship with Ursula, and in one episode of season 5 he says he sees Pretty more like a sister than anything.
    • Pretty and Mr. Cat's relationship always consisted of Pretty stalking Mr. Cat and Mr. Cat refusing to ever go out with her because he hated her. Episode 213 shows that sometime between seasons 4 and 5 of the show, Pretty came to the realization that she had fallen out of love with Mr. Cat, meaning that this went from a one-sided romantic attraction to a relationship with zero romantic attraction on either side.
  • Kim Possible:
    • The episode "Emotion Sickness" could've been interpreted as a mockery of both Kim/Ron shippers and Drakken/Shego shippers — until Kim and Ron actually do get together in So the Drama. Word of God states that the two getting together was part of the show as far back as the initial pitch, and that the series finale is also a confirmation that Drakken/Shego also end up together eventually.
    • Season four's "Stop Team Go" features Shego being turned good by a Mirror Morality Machine and immediately becoming best friends with Kim. It's like a gift to KiGo shippers for their support and promotion of the show, and even has the Ship Tease-baiting line of Shego saying "You know, Kimmie, I couldn't tell you this when I was evil, but—" Right then, she's flipped back, flies away crowing with her partner in crime, the machine is smashed to pieces and Kim and Ron pretty much say "Shame, but maybe it's for the best". It's as if the Word of God was saying "Well, wasn't that fun? But no. No, it's just not going to happen".
  • Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart: Word of God sunk Badgerclops and Mao Mao as a possibility with a clumsily worded post on Tumblr explaining how they're supposed to just be friends, not in love. The reasons why people did not like his post varynote , but several people dropped the show in protest and the backlash was strong enough that this lone event caused show creator Parker to delete the post, then promptly leave Tumblr and move to Twitter.
  • Miraculous Ladybug:
    • The two Romantic False Lead subplots ended quickly in season four, as Kagami breaks up with Adrien in the second episode. In the fourth, "Mr. Pigeon 72", Kagami insists numerous times that she doesn't want to get back with Adrien, but claims that Marinette is a better match for him, meaning Kagami and Adrien are over for good. Similarly, Marinette breaks up with Luka as soon as the first episode, then shows no regret about it since Mr Pigeon 72. In the twelfth episode, "Crocoduel", Marinette is reluctant to see him again, states she does not feel the same for him and loves Adrien (which was the case from the very beginning). To emphasize this, Luka plays the Shipper on Deck in the very end, asking Marinette if she confessed to Adrien yet.
    • In "Gang of Secrets", Marinette's kwami Tikki tells her that kwamis don't fall in love, which means that the pairing between Tikki and Adrien's kwami Plagg will never happen, nor will any other pairing involving kwamis.
    • In "Elation", a strange example occurs, in which "Ladynoir" is technically sunk when Adrien/Chat Noir realizes that he loves Marinette more than Ladybug, so he decides to give up Ladybug in order to pursue a relationship with Marinette (he doesn't know that both girls are the same person).
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Big Mac gets a Relationship Upgrade with Sugar Belle in "Hard To Say Anything", sinking Big Mac x Cheerilee which the episode makes clear was only a thing due to them being under the influence of a Love Potion and Big Mac x Marble Pie as Best Gift Ever shows Marble's heartbroken reaction to the pairing.
  • Charles E. Bastien, the director of PAW Patrol, confirmed to a fan on Twitter that Chase does NOT have a crush on Skye or vice versa, and that they are only good friends, ultimately breaking the fanon that has been going on between the two since "Pups Save the Sea Turtles." He has also denied any romance going on between Marshall and Everest, too.
  • The Owl House:
    • During Season 2A and the hiatus, Hunter/Edric and Hunter/Emira became moderately popular ships, despite him never appearing on screen with them. In Season 2B, they finally encounter each other and both Blight twins are distinctly unimpressed by him. "That's the Golden Guard?" By that point, Huntlow had eclipsed them in popularity, so nobody really minded.
    • On the other side, Willow/Sasha had some traction until "Any Sport in a Storm".
    • Shipping Vee with the blonde human cheerleader briefly seen in the first episode (often named "Clara" by fans) became common following "Yesterday's Lie", but once Vee got some adorable Ship Tease with Masha in the first episode of season 3, support for Vee/"Clara" virtually disappeared.
    • All ships involving Lillith were stopped dead when Dana Terrace confirmed that she was aro/ace.
  • Phineas and Ferb:
    • The flashback scene where Doofenshmirtz takes Linda on a date (which ended badly) was intended to sink the idea that Doof is Phineas' father (a theory that came about because Phineas and Doof's heads are identically-shaped).
    • "Minor Monogram" sinks Vannesa/Johnny.
    • "Act Your Age" sinks Vanessa/Monty, Ferb/Gretchen, Phineas/Adyson and Ferb/Isabella.
  • We'll never know for certain what the writers for The Powerpuff Girls thought about the fans clamoring for a relationship between Professor Utonium and Miss Keane. What is certain is that they were determined not to let romance take over the show. Utonium and Keane did hit it off, but proceeded to spend nearly the entire episode doing nothing at all but exchange baby talk. Worse, they did it over the PPG emergency line, meaning that the girls couldn't respond to crises (which quickly made the city an extremely unpleasant place to live). They finally broke it off because Keane owns a cat, and Utonium, thanks to a harrowing encounter with one in the past, can't tolerate the presence of one.
  • In Puppy Dog Pals , Bingo and Rolly's owner Bob was frequently shipped with Chloe's mom due to their chemistry and willingness to help each other out. This ship was sunk when later episodes show that Chloe also has a father.
  • Regular Show:
  • She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: The slim hopes of Marazz shippers did not survive season 4. The ship had generally assumed that Razz was physically younger, or at least more rational, a thousand years ago while Mara was alive; the fourth season episode "Hero", which focuses heavily on the two of them, confirmed that Razz is in fact unstuck in time, and whenever she interacted with Mara, she was exactly the same old lady with seeming dementia that Adora deals with; Mara's relationship with her is more along the lines of the affection one might have for a beloved grandparent who's not quite all there any more, rather than anything romantic.
  • While it might not sink the ship completely, The Spectacular Spider-Man's Spider-Man and Black Cat are now unlikely to ever have a relationship. Let's just say alone time with the girl whose father killed your uncle, the closest thing you had to a real father would be awwwwwkward.
  • Star Wars Resistance: Torra spent all of her screentime being bubbly and friendly with Kaz, even when he challenges her to a race that could end up with one of them seriously injured. Later, he stumbles into her room while looking for someplace to hide, and she assumes he had romantic intentions. She politely but firmly turns him down. For bonus points, his utter confusion makes it clear that the lack of attraction is mutual.
Torra: Oh, Kaz... I think you've mistaken my kindness for something else.
    Kaz: Uh, what?
  • Steven Universe:
    • Pretty much every ship involving Garnet suffered a major blow after "Jail Break", which revealed that Garnet is the fusion of two gems named Ruby and Sapphire, whose relationship is romantic. "Love Letters" torpedoed any remains that might've been still floating when it's made explicit that Ruby and Sapphire are monogamous, or as Steven puts it, Garnet is a walking, talking relationship metaphor.
    • In "Say Uncle", Uncle Grandpa literally sinks Lars and Sadie's ship with a "head cannon". This episode is non-canon however, and lampshaded as so.
      • Played straight in Steven Universe: Future. After ending together at the end of the main series, Future reveals in "Little Graduation" that they mutually broke up at some point and that Sadie has a new partner named Shep, who Lars has zero issues with or jealously towards, sinking the Lars/Sadie ship for good.
    • Word of God sunk the popular Lapis Lazuli/Peridot ship (and every other Peridot ship for that matter) when they revealed that Peridot is aro-ace (i.e., has no interest in personal romantic or sexual relationships).
  • Played with in-universe in the season 3 premiere of Superjail!: After the relationship between Lord Stingray and the Mistress falls through, Jared and Charise conspire to have the Warden and Mistress sleep together so that Superjail can be restored to glory (and that they themselves might have a chance at being together if their bosses are). The potential is sunk when the Warden proves to have no clue what to do, and Alice winds up sleeping with the Mistress instead. The Mistress then decides she doesn't need a lover, and relinquishes Superjail back to Warden, further undoing the assistants' hopes and plan. The fans that had shipped Warden and Mistress together wound up distraught, while a few others had decided to latch on to shipping Mistress/Alice instead.
  • Teen Titans (2003):
    • The finale may as well have been titled "Sorry, Shippers", as it has Terra seemingly come Back from the Dead only to completely reject the idea of being a superhero (and by extension, being with Beast Boy) ever again. Yep, BB/Terra was the ship so nice they sank it twice.
    • Beast Boy/Raven was sunk when, after the heavy amount of Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading, the writers firmly declared that all the Titans are like siblings (except for Robin and Starfire). Ironically, the comics (the main ones, not the tie-in series), where those very same characters did hook up right around the same time, apparently by coincidence. Teen Titans Go! also depicts BB/Raven as an Official Couple, this being one of the few things that haters of the otherwise-divisive series feel it does right.
    • Cyborg/Bumblebee had a case of Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading of its own, with Word of God saying their bickering wasn't meant to seem romantic, but meant to drive people away from shipping them.
    • The popular idea of Robin/Raven was dismantled in Trouble In Tokyo when Starfire and Robin became the Official Couple. Raven doesn't even seem phased by it. It's unlikely Robin and Raven were meant to be anything but good friends.
    • Another Fan-Preferred Couple was Cyborg/Jinx, briefly teased in season 3. This ship was sunk in Season 5, when Jinx instead fell for Kid Flash, whose kindness towards her caused her Heel–Face Turn. Like BB/Raven above, however, Teen Titans Go does push this ship.
  • Teen Titans Go!:
    • BB/Terra ship is completely sunk, thanks to the latter returning to her original villainous characterization over her Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds one. While Terra does end up actually falling for him at the end of her debut episode thanks to a serenade, their entire dating relationship was offscreen; by her next appearance, she had dumped him because he wouldn't stop singing to her, and was now dating Aqualad instead.
    • Unlike the 2003 series, where they were mutually interested in each other, Starfire has absolutely no romantic interest in Robin, while he is utterly obsessed with her, but she may indeed have feelings for him as in the original series, depending on what episodes you watch.
  • While Blackarachnia/Optimus was fairly obvious in Transformers: Animated, "Predacons Rising" killed off any hope of Sentinel/Blackarachnia. He isn't just disgusted by her, he actively wants to murder her.
  • ThunderCats (2011): Although Cheetara and Lion-O had a lot of Ship Tease moments, that ship was thoroughly sunk in Episodes 12 and 13 when it's revealed that Tygra had a crush on Cheetara since childhood and Cheetara returned his feelings but put her duty to Lion-O above her feelings for him, topped off by Cheetara and Tygra sharing their first kiss in front of a shocked Lion-O!
  • Total Drama:
    • The Total Drama Action special might have done this for Trent/Gwen shippers. Not only do the two have no one-to-one interaction at all in the special (significant enough in itself) but Gwen admitted she finds Duncan attractive while Trent has already begun dating different girls. However, after Gwen hooks up with Duncan, she and Trent become Amicable Exes.
    • World Tour practically dropped a thermonuclear warhead on the the Courtney/Duncan ship before doing a Colony Drop on the ashes by having Duncan cheat on Courtney with Gwen, leading to the pair's final breakup in their volatile relationship and giving a major Relationship Upgrade to the longtime Fan-Preferred Couple of Gwen/Duncan.
    • Word of God has stated that the only reason Duncan/Courtney, Gwen/Trent, and even Owen/Izzy were split up is because Executive Meddling wanted to teach kids that your first love isn't always the one you'll have for the rest of your life (which probably explains why of the six couples established in Island only Bridgette/Geoff and Lindsay/Tyler survived the duration of the series).
    • Relatively popular pairings in the fandom like Heather/Harold and Heather/DJ (both had some Ship Tease in previous seasons) were sunk when Heather was given an official love interest in the form of Alejandro in World Tour and then officially hooked up with him by the end of All-Stars.
    • In All-Stars the Gwen/Duncan ship was officially torpedoed when Gwen broke up with Duncan because their relationship was no longer thrilling, and he still showed signs of being interested in Courtney. Then the season just proceeds to beat the ashes of the already sunken Courtney/Duncan ship by showing that the former has completely moved on at this point, having come to utterly despise the latter's guts and instead pursuing a relationship with newcomer Scott. Said relationship also ends up sunk a few episodes later after Scott discovered Courtney planned to backstab him with a conveiently placed chart, prompting them to break up.
    • In Pahkitew Island Dave loves Sky. Unfortunately in the finale, Sky is already spoken for, resulting with Dave's Face–Heel Turn.
    • Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race officially obliterated the idea of Noah playing for the other team, and countless Noah fan ships, by giving him a girlfriend in Emma.
  • In Transformers: Prime even after a rather rough first encounter with each other in the episode Metal Attraction, Airachnid and Breakdown were shipped following a line from Breakdown that even though he felt she was domineering and her extra arms were weird, he found himself intrigued by her. Come the Season 2 episode Crossfire however, she kills him. Because he was willing to kill her under orders. Ship sunk indeed.
  • On T.U.F.F. Puppy, the episode "'Til Doom Do Us Part" is dedicated entirely to sinking the Dudley/Kitty ship.
  • In The Venture Brothers, any hopes of progression for Brock/Molotov may have also been sunk after "Operation: P.R.O.M." Not only does Molotov claim she's in love with Monstroso, she crosses the Moral Event Horizon once again by threatening to have all of the people Brock cares about murdered by her Black Hearts if Brock doesn't let her go. Oh, and she fell off of a cliff in a limo and may be dead... And promptly floated back to the surface again in Seasons 5 when it is revealed in the opening minutes of the first episode that they Never Found the Body after that car explosion, Monstroso and Molotov are still alive, only for Monstroso to be taken by The Investors, and Molotov was revealed to be a Double Reverse Quadruple Agent.
  • At the end of season 8 of Voltron: Legendary Defender, Allura/Lance is confirmed canon, but she has to die soon afterward, with the implication that he never fully gets over her. Meanwhile, Shiro's ex-boyfriend Adam is confirmed dead and he ends up marrying Curtis, sinking other ships involving him.
  • Young Justice (2010):
    • Even canon ships aren't safe. The second season is kicked off with Miss Martian suddenly kissing Lagoon Boy, even though she was dating Superboy at the end of first season. Granted, a lot can change in five years, but the show didn't address their breakup until the next episode. Subverted in that due to later character development, they actually get back together when Miss Martian realizes she was only using Lagoon Boy as a rebound and dumps him for Superboy.
    • Robin and Zatanna seemed to have something going on in the first season, but by season two they were just close friends. Word of God confirmed they dated and broke up sometime during the five year Time Skip.
    • Wally dying in the second season finale puts a pretty big dent in the Wally/Artemis ship, or any ships involving Wally.
