Z-Fighters/The Breakfast Club of Combat/Dragon Team

    The team in general
A group of various members that all form the team that help protect Earth from threats.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Most of the team undergo training with King Kai, obtaining the kaio-ken technique.
    • A few of these members also learn the spirit bomb.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Saiyans, half-saiyans from both present and the future timelines, humans and a Namekian all make up the members of the group.

Main members

    Kakarot
The younger son of Bardock and Gine.
  • Action Dad: Having Caulifla as his daughter didn’t stop Kakarot from being a fighter, especially when he and his wife Bulma got kidnapped by a group of space mercenaries working under Lord Droolic.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In canon, he’s cheerful. This version of Kakarot however has a dark backstory of being a Red Ribbon Army assassin and all the angst comes with it.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Was given the Earth name of Jasper instead of Goku. He relinquishes it in favour of his saiyan name once he realises the truth.
  • Beard of Sorrow: Or in this case, Stubble of sorrow. Deep down, he’s still grieving over Vomi’s death.
  • Composite Character: Takes several traits from the many what-ifs that inspired him.
    • His backstory is virtually identical to the Goku who was raised by Android 21, working as a Red Ribbon Army assassin.
    • He also defeats Master Roshi (again) in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, just like how Goku did in What If Goku Won Against Master Roshi?.
    • He also turns Super Saiyan after the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament upon seeing someone close to him die just like Goku did in What If Kid Goku turned Super Saiyan?, in this case Vomi instead of Krillin.
    • He also marries Bulma, just like Goku did from What If Goku Married Bulma?.
    • Just like Goku from What if Caulifla was Goku’s daughter, he has a half-saiyan daughter named Caulifla.
    • He ends up in space before what would be start of Dragon Ball Z, just like Goku from What If Goku Went To Space BEFORE DBZ? did.
  • Decomposite Character: Takes his original inspiration’s Saiyan name, with his twin sister taking his Earth name and personality.
  • Expy: His cold demeanour, his deep focus on the mission, having the Red Ribbon Army emblem on his clothes, and the fact that he has been cybernetically-enhanced makes him this what-if’s version of the Winter Soldier. Bonus points for both of them being rescued from the holds of their respective captors. In fact, Damon explicitly mentions how Kakarot is basically the Winter Soldier for the Red Ribbon Army.
  • Hero Killer: Almost kills Roshi when he and Gebo confront him for his dragon ball.
  • Interspecies Romance: He (a saiyan) married Bulma (a human-type Earthling).
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Once he breaks free from the brainwashing that the Red Ribbon Army has inflicted on him, he realises with horror that he almost killed someone and sought to get penance for what he had done.
  • Perma-Stubble: His adult artwork usually depicts him with a stubble.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Hardly smiles as an adult. To be fair he also hardly smiled when he was still a child due to working as an assassin then.
  • Power Copying: Copied the Kamekameha just from seeing Roshi perform it on him.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Much like how Kid Goku from What If Kid Goku turned Super Saiyan? turned Super Saiyan upon seeing the death of someone he had a close connection to, Kakarot turns Super Saiyan upon seeing Vomi die at the hands of Krillin.

    Goku
The younger daughter of Bardock and Gine.

    Caulifla
The daughter of Kakarot and Bulma. She holds a lot of power within her.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Her hair is lavender instead of black like in both her canon version and the version from What if Caulifla was Goku’s daughter.
  • Adaptation Species Change: A half-human, half-saiyan in this what-if, compared to her canon-self being a full saiyan from Universe 6.
  • Composite Character: Like many characters in this what-if scenario, she appears to embody traits from other alternate realities versions of herself.
    • She is obviously based on Caulifla from What if Caulifla was Goku’s daughter.
    • She is also the daughter of Kakarot and Bulma, much like Gohan from What If Goku Married Bulma?.
    • She is also one of the few Legendary Super Saiyans, much like Gohan from What if Gohan was the Legendary Super Saiyan?.

    Bulma Briefs
The daughter of Doctor Briefs and Panchy.
  • Composite Character: Like many characters in this what-if scenario, she appears to embody traits from other alternate realities versions of herself.
  • Science Hero: Using her technology and armor, she's able to keep up with Kakarot when both of them went to space.
  • Xenafication: Unlike the canon Bulma, this Bulma actively takes part in the front grounds instead of just being the source of the Dragon Balls via her radar.

    Future Trunks
The son of Bulma and Vegeta from an alternate future timeline. Much like most Future Trunks, he goes back to warn the group about the threats in his timeline… though it appears he went to the completely wrong timeline separate from his own timeline.
  • Alternate Self: He has one in Nomad, who is an even older version of himself.
  • Composite Character: Surprisingly, he also has a few composite traits from the other various what-if versions of himself.
    • His backstory is similar to the Future Trunks in the What If Future Gohan Had Survived? series, since said backstory has Gohan managing to defeat the androids.
    • He mentions Bansuri in his backstory, the son of Future Piccolo, meaning he shares a backstory with the Future Trunks in the What if Piccolo Had A Son? series.
    • The fact that his time machine landed in what is supposed to be the Dragon Ball era makes him similar to the Future Trunks in the What if Trunks met Kid Bulma? series.

    Future Ranch
The daughter of Launch and Raditz from an alternate future timeline. She accompanied Future Trunks to stop the androids and cure her uncle Goku of his heart virus.

Allies

Not officially part of the Z-fighters but they do assist the various team members in any way they can.

Earth-based allies

    Vomi
The adoptive mother of Kakarot.
  • Death by Adaptation: She dies at the hands of Krillin during what is supposed to be the King Piccolo Saga, compared to the version of her from What If Android 21 Raised Goku? where she’s still alive as an android.
  • Death Is Cheap: Averted. Kakarot hoped that he could use the Dragon Balls to resurrect her after she was slain by Krillin, but sadly for him, Kami, being too old, put an end to those plans.
  • The Lost Lenore: A parental version. Even as an adult, Kakarot has not been able to let go of the grief he felt upon seeing Vomi dead.
  • Missing Mom: Being a female Parental Substitute who was murdered while Kakarot was young qualifies as this trope.
  • Parental Substitute: She’s this to Kakarot, giving him great love and attention as much as she gives to her loving son Gebo.

    Kami
The Guardian of Earth. He’s the good half that was once the Nameless namekian and the one who created both the dragon balls and Shenron.
  • Fountain of Youth: He summons Shenron to make himself young again.
  • Godzilla Threshold: He allows the entire group to be at the top of the lookout, despite him not liking Kakarot due to him almost getting him killed. This is due to the incoming threats of the other saiyans from Vegeta’s crew.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He’s upset at the group due to Kakarot being part of them. Considering that Kakarot almost killed him when he killed Demon King Piccolo, only surviving because Piccolo Jr. was spat out at the last moment, this makes sense.

Space-based allies

These characters are all allies of the Z-fighters who are based in space.
    The crew in general

    The crew in general

Vegeta’s crew

    The crew in general

    Krillin
A human-type Earthling from another monastery.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Canon Krillin is one of the heroic defenders of Earth who has never killed an innocent. This Krillin killed Vomi under the orders of Demon King Piccolo.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Brings his smug attitude to Kame House and got on everyone’s nerves. This only earns him an expulsion from the Turtle School.
  • Boxed Crook: When Vegeta’s crew came to get this supposed Earth-raised saiyan from the Galactic Patrol, Krillin was who they got. They offered him a deal: Either help them deal with the rest of the Earth-based saiyans or die in prison. Krillin reluctantly goes with the group.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: An inverted case. He willingly submits himself to every evil person he came across. They all betrayed him. He quickly wised to this trope when Zamasu asked if he wanted to get out and he refused, stating that every single time he worked for someone they ended up betraying him.
  • Composite Character: Like most characters in this what-if he takes cue from several variations of himself.
    • His haughty attitude and refusal to work with the protagonists when training at Kame House came from his variant from What If Raditz Went To Earth Instead of Goku?.
    • His wish to become a saiyan takes cue from his variant from What If Krillin Became a Saiyan?.
  • A Real Man Is a Killer: To prove his loyalty to Demon King Piccolo, Krillin hesitated at first but then committed the deed on Vomi.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Rather than get killed around the time of the Demon King Piccolo saga, he instead gets arrested by the Galactic Patrol.

Other villains

Villainous characters not associated with any of the aforementioned groups.

    Demon King Piccolo
The evil half of the Nameless Namekian. He is an entity that is Kami’s evil half who got sealed away almost 300 years ago.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Unlike in canon, Demon King Piccolo never gets his wish to restore his youth due to Super Saiyan Kid Kakarot getting to Shenron before he could make his wish and subsequently destroying Shenron when he found out that Shenron couldn’t resurrect Vomi.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite the different circumstances in how Kakarot was raised, he still ends up being defeated by the saiyan, even having a hole punched through his chest, causing him to spit out Piccolo Jr.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sees Kakarot as a super saiyan and knows he has no chance of making a wish.

    Lord Drolic
The lord of a gladiatorial space arena who has his mercenaries kidnap strong fighters, in this case both Bulma and Kakarot, to fight in his arena.
  • Composite Character:
  • Evil Overlord: He presides over the arena and forces his slaves to fight to the death in his Blood Sport arena.
  • Mugging the Monster: His mercenaries kidnapped Kakarot, who has the Super Saiyan transformation and is hence way stronger than where the original Goku would be, and Bulma, an Action Girl who could easily hack all his shock collar technology to disable them. It does not end well for him.

    Garlic Jr.
A villain who debuted in the movie, Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, though it seems a lot of changes here ruined any of his evil plans.
  • Butt-Monkey: After kidnapping Caulifla to obtain the dragon balls he finds out his plans were in vain; As Kakarot had destroyed them 7 years prior during the King Piccolo saga. And is subsequently vaporised by Caulifla’s huge burst of power from her powering up into her Legendary Super Saiyan form.
  • Death by Adaptation: Rather than being trapped in the dead zone, he instead dies when Caulifla powered up into her Legendary Super Saiyan form.
  • Mugging the Monster: Tries to kidnap Caulifla, not knowing she’s one of the Legendary Super Saiyans, to get information about the dragon balls. It goes as well as you expect.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: All he does in this what-if is to kidnap Caulifla, find out his plan failed before he could execute it, and then gets killed by the burst of power that Caulifla unleashed when she powered up into her Legendary Super Saiyan form.

Other characters:

These characters do show up in this What-if but they aren’t associated with any morality sides.

    Shin
The Supreme Kai of Universe 7.
  • Adaptional Badass: This version of Shin is shown to be far more competent compared to his canon version.
  • Divine Intervention:
    • Just like his counterpart in ''What if the Supreme Kai wasn't useless?’’, Shin notices Yamoshi and descends when he's about to be killed by the evil Saiyans and annihilates his enemies.
    • Defied by Beerus when Shin attempts to stop the Frost Empire from taking root. Beerus reassures Shin that he would tell the Frost demons from destroying planets
  • God Is Good: Much like other versions of Shin, this Shin willingly helps Universe 7 grow in mortal level.

    Beerus
The God of Destruction of Universe 7.
  • Destroyer Deity: He’s the God of Destruction for Universe 7.
  • Lazy Bum: You don’t get a much lazier instance of Beerus than him not telling the Frost demons what planets they can and can’t destroy before going for his deep sleep.

    Yamoshi
The ancient heroic saiyan of Universe 7 who achieved the super saiyan god status.
  • Adaptational Badass: Obviously compared to his original counterpart, this Yamoshi receives training from not just Shin but also Beerus and Whis.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He inflicts this on the evil saiyans when he returns. Considering he trained under Shin and then Beerus, it was only natural that he would easily win.
  • Die Differently In Adaptation: Rather than be slain in battle by the evil saiyans, he pass away peacefully years later.
  • The Good King: Once Yamoshi returns and defeats the evil saiyans, he rules as a just king.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite surviving and being the king of the saiyans, Yamoshi still passes away but in this case, old age rather than a violent death in battle.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Rather than die at the hands of the evil saiyans, Yamoshi is saved by Shin who brings him to the Sacred world of the kais for training to improve his super saiyan god powers.
