  • A commercial for Energizer batteries that tied in with Shrek the Third features the Energizer Bunny wandering through the Poison Apple. Prince Charming and the fairy tale villains unsuccessfully try to destroy the Bunny as target practice before they go after Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots.
  • In an advert for Honey Nut Cheerios that tied in with Shrek 2, Shrek searches his swamp for bugs to eat. When he finds Buzz, he tries to catch and eat him, but Buzz convinces him to eat a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios instead.
  • Shrek and Donkey appear alongside Red and Yellow in a commercial for M&M's that tied in with Shrek 2. As Red and Yellow ponder over the ogre-sized M&Ms, believing they're under a magic spell, Shrek tells them that most spells are broken when somebody kisses somebody else. Yellow tries to kiss Red, who tells him "That's not gonna happen!". At the end of the commercial, Donkey mistakes the sun for a giant Yellow M&M.
  • Gingy the Gingerbread Man appears in several commercials for Wal-Mart from 2003. One commercial has him being interviewed and eventually hired by Albert, the manager, and another has him drive an RC Jeep as he shows the viewers Wal-Mart's toy department.

Comic Strips

  • In a FoxTrot comic published while the first film was still in theaters, Paige and Nicole try to have Peter, who's working at the movie theater, let them see it for free.
  • Off the Mark: In this strip, Shrek is seen at a St. Patrick's Day party alongside other green fictional characters.
  • Sherman's Lagoon:
    • In this strip, Megan discovers that someone has stolen her identity and used her credit card to buy Louis Vuitton luggage, which makes her upset because SHE wanted that. Sherman then asks "What's wrong with the Shrek fanny pack I got ya?"
    • In this strip, Sherman gets Shrek confused with Robin Hood.
  • In one Stone Soup comic, Joan and Wally are having trouble putting Max to bed. He's still up at 2AM, watching Shrek.

Fan Works

  • The Turning Red fanfic Fragile; Handle with Care mentions the first movie via a joke:
    Why doesn't Shrek like Pulp Fiction? He thinks it's medi-ogre!
  • The Ma Fille chapter "Babysitting Miss Daisy" references the Robin Hood scene by having the titular Daisy be confused about why Joe, Katrina, and Cath laughed so much over a man saying he likes to get paid.

Film - Animated

  • Flushed Away: The movie is seen in Roddy's DVD collection.
  • Rocky and Bullwinkle (2014): During the montage of Bullwinkle hanging out with Ms. Moosylvania (Boris Badenov piloting a killer robot moose), Ms. Moosylvania attempts to kill Bullwinkle by launching missiles at him, but the missiles instead hit the balloons at a carnival game due to Bullwinkle ducking to pick up a penny. Ms. Moosylvania is rewarded with a plush of Shrek.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem: In the trailer, the turtles are referred to as "Little Shreks" by a thug they are about to face.

Film - Live Action

  • Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022): While giving Chip and Dale a tour of Sweet Pete's factory, Bob the Dwarf reveals that Sweet Pete bought the inventory of unsold Shrek body wash and melted it down to make port-a-potties.
  • In Cyrus, during John and Molly's first meeting at a party, the former says he's "like Shrek".
  • In I Am Legend, Neville walks in the living room of a house where he sees a child watching the first movie. Because Neville has watched the film so many times, he starts reciting every inflection perfectly of the scene where Shrek meets Donkey, baffling the kid and his mom.
    Dr. Robert Neville: I like Shrek.
  • The Master of Disguise: Early in the film, Pistachio imitates Shrek and Donkey to entertain his child friend.
  • Meet the Spartans: The opening scene features a Spartan inspecting an ogre baby who vomits all over him.
  • In My Spy, JJ's dancing is compared to the Dance Party Ending of Shrek.
  • In Bright, Daryl Ward compares an orc to Shrek as an insult.

  • Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: In the August 21, 2022 episode, John watches a 2011 Reverb PSA in which My Chemical Romance says they're going to "green things up", which he says sounds like something Shrek would say right before reaching a sexual climax.
    John: (imitating Shrek) Look out! I'm about to green things up! Watch me, Donkey! I want you to watch me! LOOK ME IN THE EYES!
  • One episode of the French Game Show Burger Quiz has a parody of the first movie's Storybook Opening as a Framing Device, complete with the music. Doubles as an Actor Allusion, since the show's creator and host Alain Chabat provided Shrek's voice in the French dub of the movies.

  • In GURPS Pyramid 45: Monsters, the description for ogres says that they are not green, nor do they have layers, but they will make you cry.

Video Games

  • In Infinite Craft, Shrek and Princess Fiona are both possible crafting recipes.
  • Minecraft: If you set the language to "LOLCAT (Kingdom of Cats)" in Minecraft and turn on the subtitles, wardens will be called "blu shrek" in the subtitles.

  • Dawn of the Croods:
    • In the episode "There Will Be Eggs", doodles of Shrek and Donkey appear on a slateboard.
    • In the episode "28 Fleas Later", one of the mutated pigrats can be seen with Shrek's ears and head shape.
    • A cave drawing of an angry Shrek holding a spiked club glaring at a terrified Donkey appears in the "Tunnel of Terror" from the eponymous episode, which scares Eep, Thunk, Lerk, and Womp away.
  • Father of the Pride: Donkey guest-stars in his self-titled episode, in which Hunter tells a lie to his classmates claiming to know him.

    • In "The Bots and the Bees", Fry mentions that his urine was green after drinking a cup of Slurm Loco, causing Hermes to comment "I was wondering who Shrek'd in the toilet".

As Fiona goes in on some mini cheeseburgers, Shrek attempts to hang himself again, but to no avail.

    • In "See Homer Run", Lisa is seen holding a Shrek-themed Father's Day t-shirt.
    • In "Midnight Towboy", while Homer tells stories to a group tow truck drivers he is imprisoned with.
      Homer: Once upon a time, there was a hilarious ogre named Shrek 3. He lived in medieval times, but sometimes he'd say things from today times.
