Art by Crash X Fusion: Time to "Blight" some wrongs.

Emira has to put aside her hatred towards Odalia for Amity and Edric's sakes if they want to figure out what happened to Alador.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Abusive Parents: Gretchen and Griffin are brought up as these again, Geist telling Edric and Emira that his mother actually set Odalia's Grom dress on fire...while she was still wearing it.
  • Adaptational Badass: In a case not regarding a person, the Abomatron is made far tougher since it's been outfitted with iron and equipped with several anti-Fae measures, so Amity can't control it like she did Goregon's Abomi-Rhino suit and even Sly struggles against it.
  • All for Nothing:
    • Edric and Odalia start spending time together so she can make up for never giving him any quality time, as he wants to give her a chance to prove she's changed. It's implied that things have become further strained between them when Edric learns Odalia offed Gretchen and Griffin.
    • Alador notes how he has been unable to make good on his promise to make things right between him and his children because he could never fight back against his parents' hold on him.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After hearing out Emira's doubts over Odalia turning over a new leaf, Hikari asks her two of these. The first she asks is if Emira really doubts her mother's not trying to benefit off being part of the CAT's: Emira says it's just to double-cross them, then Hikari notes Odalia would've ratted them out to Belos already if she did. Then when Hikari notes that the group's united through their love for their friends and families, she asks Em if she loves Amity more than she hates Odalia: Emira responds yes.
  • Baby's First Words: When Amity returns to the Owl House and hugs Kay, she's surprised and proud to see Kay almost say her name, the gillchild calling her godsister "Bamiti".
  • "Be Quiet!" Nudge: After hearing Star's description of the Covens Against the Throne's mission to dethrone Belos, Edric compares them to the Junior Bad Girl Coven before Emira elbows him so he doesn't finish his thought and expose them.
  • Big Damn Reunion:
    • Since Hooty wasn't able to attend Luz and Amity's faux wedding, he coils Amity up in a big hug when he sees her return to the Demon Realm for the first time in a week.
    • When Alador later shares one with Amity after seeing she came to free him with the others, he hugs her and invites Edric into it.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Emira, disgusted by Arthur trying to turn her family against Odalia by revealing she murdered her own parents, tells him to "shut the 'F' up" twice since he and Destiny have done far more vile things and have no room to talk.
  • Blatant Lies: Edric asks Odalia if she still has feelings for Lilith; Odalia says she doesn't and couldn't date her if she wanted to in a flustered manner.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • After vanishing since "Brawl Night: Part 2", Alador returns, having spent the "Tarot Guild" arc imprisoned by his parents underneath Blight Industries.
    • Captain Hook makes his first appearance since "What is it Good For?"
    • Like Bangles two chapters back, Zepher and Brian return after a Long Bus Trip since "Doctor's Visits and Party Incidents".
  • Call-Back:
    • While talking with Viney at Luz and Amity's wedding, Odalia brings up Emira wanting to kill her, which Em had told Viney (who thought she was joking) during Odalia's spirit quest with Fu Dog.
    • Geist brings up how Lilith failed to beat Grom, which resulted in his parents punishing Odalia for going out with her.
    • Bela remembers cursing her older sister Cana, which happened because Emily influenced her. Since then, she took a vow of silence out of guilt.
    • Amity finds herself facing off against the real Zepher and Brian for the first time since they and Bangles attacked her at Cat's house. While she's afraid of them at first, she pushes past her trauma and takes them down with her friends and family helping her.
    • Arthur decides to use the dirt he got on Odalia that he and his wife threatened to use after the trial. While it does shock her family, Emira isn't that fazed by it and lashes out at her grandfather for exposing that secret.
    • Hook is scared off after Gus conjures an illusion of a crocodile, the same tactic Amity used when she first encountered the pirate.
    • Jerbo and Barcus miss their chance to help out in a fight again, much like they did in the first attempt to rescue King and Edric from Mel's gang.
  • The Cameo: Skara only has a brief speaking line, and it's to warn Luz about Nina's mom and twin siblings being kidnapped.
  • Cassandra Truth: Several CAT members tell Emira that Odalia's commitment and loyalty to the rebellion is genuine, but she refuses to believe it due to her resentment toward her mother. She does start to see that it's true later on.
  • Commonality Connection: Bela knows what it feels like to be consumed by hatred and recognized the signs in Emira, and her sympathy allows Em to connect with her.
  • Competition Freak: After a game of Spleen Ball, Tyrone is told that his score is second to Simon, who has 200 million points. Tyrone quickly becomes determined to break Simon's record and double it, too.
  • Continuity Cameo: Shiela and Tibbles are seen when Geist travels through Latissa while the twins tail him.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Emira follows up on helping Edric find new friends by introducing him to the rest of LOWTH, and he maintains his decision to not date for now.
    • Donna's taxidermy collection is indirectly brought up.
    • Beocrow mentions how he and Felix are half-brothers and don't know who their fathers are.
    • Emira takes note of Hikari being as tall as her little sister.
    • Odalia sees Edric's firework-making skills in action and figures out this hobby is the reason behind his eleven trips to the Healing Coven.
    • Captain Coven comics are still in their "Fae Scare" propaganda run, and the latest issue pictures Captain Coven battling a lavender haired Fae, a reminder of Amity's outing at the Bonesborough Brawl.
    • Amity has an unnerved reaction to Emira's superhero costume again.
Amity: …still not used to [seeing you in] that.
    • Hook mentions teaming up with Grimhilde after Smee's death and allying with the Tarot Guild for the siege at the Owl House.
  • Cool Big Sis: Emira comes to see Hikari and Bela as the older sisters she could've had.
  • Dark Secret: Sarah seems to have one so serious that she allows Riley to woo Edric since he doesn't want to date people with these.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Emira is the confirmed main focus, but the entire Blight family is given the star treatment, all via where they stand with Odalia.
  • Everyone Can See It: Beocrow, Veronica, and Minerva all see Sarah and Riley taking an interest in Edric, Beo warning Lindsay not to get involved in it and Veronica explaining to Viney that Sarah only hands "Atos Foundation" cards to people she likes.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: Amity, Gus, Edric, Emira, and Viney meet CAT members Bunker, Bindell, Shadow Wolf, and Hikari, with Gus, Viney, and the Blights properly meeting Sly and encountering Goregon, Weaselton, Ruth, Zepher, Brian, and Captain Hook.
  • Expy: Ray and Silent G are based on Jay and Silent Bob in Clerks: The Animated Series since they're firecracker dealers instead of pot dealers like their basises in the movie. Silent G is also based on B, who was also based on Silent Bob.
  • Face Your Fears: Instead of allowing Acorn to send Zepher and Brian flying with pixie dust, Amity opts to face them herself to prove she can. Even with their using the abilities that came with their mutations, she wins since she's not alone this time.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Geist assumes Ratador is Alador turned into a mouse until Odalia points out he's a palisman, to which he finds the interlock on the rat's foot.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Korn and his sisters end up breathing fire after scarfing down Geist's hottest food.
  • Forgettable Character: It turns out Geist is this to his in-laws as Arthur and Destiny are so obsessed with their hatred of Odalia, they never even knew he existed.
  • The Ghost:
    • Simon's brought up when Tyrone declares he'll beat his Spleen Ball high score.
    • While Emira's looking over Odalia's case file, Edric wonders if they're going to become mystery-solving twins like Dipper and Mabel.
    • Vee indirectly mentions Laura since Luz told her about King's relationship with her.
    • Gavin's brought up by Emira as a potential member for her branch of LOWTH, and Amity brings him up when she imagines his reaction to Darius being alive.
  • Given Name Reveal: Bela, who's the true identity of Shadow Wolf, states her full name is "Belatrix".
  • Grew a Spine: After being kept from seeing his children and not even knowing if his youngest daughter was okay after she was put in danger coupled with Arthur and Destiny keeping him chained up for a week, Alador finally stands up to his parents and fights them as Emira helps him escape his confinement.
  • Hero of Another Story: The Cerberus sisters solved a mystery for Lindsay and the Courtland family involving apple vampires.
  • Heroic Willpower: It turns out Alador's love for Amity is so strong that he overcame the effects of Terra's tea.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Beocrow has some skill in taxidermy, having been the one who made all of the models Donna has of the dead animals Nina offered her as romantic gestures.
    • Riley hopes to create portals which they would use for traveling.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Viney is surprised when Odalia tells her she knows Emira resents her enough to want to kill her, as Emira told Viney (and as we later learn, Edric) that in a private conversation, which Odalia had witnessed.
  • If Only You Knew: Alador tells the Emperor's Coven that the destruction of Blight Industries was the result of a Tarot Guild attack. He didn't know that the Goblin caused a good chunk of it.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: When Edric greets the CAT's while they watch the report on Calypso, they don't notice him. They continue to do so as they discuss who'd want to sabotage the Day of Unity until he makes his presence known a second time.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Alador finally stands up to those who've oppressed him and Blight Industries is leveled in an ensuing battle. The Blight who stands up to their Abusive Parents also declares they're never talking to them again.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Amity, Gus, Edric, Emira, and Viney learn that Lilith and Odalia have joined Raine's new rebellion and that Darius and Eberwolf are alive. Alador later sees Darius is alive for himself.
    • Viney introduces herself to Odalia and Alador as Emira's girlfriend, unaware that Odalia already knew of their relationship.
    • The CAT's learn that someone's trying to interfere with the Day of Unity and that Arthur and Desting are members of the Tarot Guild organization, as do the other Blights, Amity, Gus, and Viney.
    • Luz has told Vee about King getting a job and a girlfriend.
    • Arthur and Destiny learn that Amity is the new wielder of the Sword of Adam.
    • Amity informs Alador of how she became a Fae, introduces him to Sam, and she and Edric tell him about Mel and Trini causing Odalia's affair with Lilith.
    • Amity and Gus are informed of Nina's family being rescued and Luz, Willow, and Nina going missing by Skara.
  • Interrupted Intimacy
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Bordering on Irrational Hatred at this point, Arthur blames Odalia for causing Destiny's death when it happened out of pure circumstance. As such, he jumps off the deep end and tries to get them both killed only to (probably) die himself when Emira saves her mother.
  • Karma Houdini: The mutated Glandus students are captured and Arthur & Destiny are taken care of, but Hook escapes after the fight gets too tough for him, and nobody sees the Grim Goblin after he causes the explosion that led to Arthur & Destiny's demises.
  • Killed Off for Real: Destiny dies as a result of a falling walkway falling and crushing her head, a result of the Grim Goblin making sure Arthur and Destiny weren't captured by the rebellion and gave up any Tarot Guild secrets.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Arthur and Destiny tormented and abused their children along with mutating most of them and repeatedly tearing apart Alador's family. Now Alador stands up to them, Destiny dies, and Arthur has likely been mutated into an abomination monster himself.
  • Late to the Action: Once again, Jerbo and Barcus arrive after all the fighting's over.
  • Lesser of Two Evils: Emira may hate her parents for their neglect and expectations, but admits that both sets of their own parents were outright irreedemable.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: At first Luz was planning on helping Amity and her family save Alador from his parents, but when Skara calls and tells her about Nina's family, she, Eda, and King join in the search while Gus and Viney join the Blight family.
  • Love Triangle: A short-lived one occurs between Edric, Riley, and Sarah. The Epidermites take an immediate interest in Edric over his multi-track studies and are prepared to fight for his heart. However, the moment Edric reveals he'll wait before dating again and make sure his next partner has no Dark Secrets or complicated backstories, Sarah lets Riley have him and moves on to Jerbo.
  • Luminescent Blush: Donna has one when Beocrow mentions his turning Nina's offerings into her taxidermy models.
  • Mistaken for Romance: When the Blight twins spy on Geist, they see him pay Shiela a compliment at her business and Edric (who earlier believed he was meeting a secret girlfriend) assumes there's something between them. When Geist brings them to CAT headquarters the next day, Edric brings this up and Geist is confused that he'd believe that.
  • My Card: "Call Me" case. Sarah hands out "Atos Foundation" cards to people she's interested in dating, first giving one to Edric, then Jerbo when she lets Riley have a shot with Edric.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Amity's annoyed reaction to seeing Captain Hook mirrors how Luz responded to dealing with Kikimora again in "For the Future".
    • The rat resembling Alador becomes his actual palisman, which Dana Terrace expressed her belief that it was in a livestream.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The rat found in Alador's workshop and becomes his palisman is named after him, "Ratador".
  • Noodle Incident: Emira sends an illusion clone to school so she can spend the day spying on Odalia. At the end of the day, Edric mentions that the clone got detention for trying to start an uprising.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: Amity has to face Zepher and Brian again during the rescue mission but because she's grown so much since her mugging, she overcomes the trauma of that event and defeats them.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Subverted. Emira comes across a family photo of the Grunhars in Boils' case file for Odalia, and sees her mother sporting a frown she had often seen on Amity. Emira says that she refuses to believe that Odalia is anything like her sister.
  • Not-So-Innocent Whistle: After Vee mentions King getting a girlfriend, he glares at Luz who's whistling mischiveously.
  • Oh, Crap!: Arthur and Destiny are horrified that Amity is in possession of their ancestor's legendary sword.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Edric and Emira's week since their sister's faux wedding on Tuesday is given a glimpse and builds up to Amity's adventure throughout the last two chapters, which features Gus and Viney providing their assistance to the Blights in rescuing Alador from his parents.
  • Point of Divergence: This chapter is the LCU version of "Clouds on the Horizon", now taking place before "Hollow Mind". The biggest factors connected to the change are Luz, King, and Willow being involved with helping to track down Nina's kidnapped family members and Amity not being the captured Blight that needs to be saved from their parents, with Edric, Emira, Viney, and Odalia being involved with the rescue mission. On another note, Kikimora doesn't appear so the Abomatron battle mech is given to someone else.
  • The Reveal:
    • Boils has case files on not only suspects, but his clients which include Odalia.
    • Nina seems to have started considering going nameless after talking with Emira about the following.
    • Emira quit cheerleading to spite Odalia and her expectations, sabotaging herself in a local competition by botching a routine that caused her to fall on top of Eve.
    • Shadow Wolf is confirmed to be Bela, and she took a vow of silence due to her guilt from cursing Cana.
    • Captain Coven hasn't been selling due to its Fae propaganda and since the latest issue is targeted towards Amity, Hunter tried to complain to Belos about it but didn't get through to him.
    • Luz has been donating her old comics to Bonesborough's comic shop.
    • Edric stayed over at CAT headquarters on Frieday night, so he enters the room at the same time everybody learns of Calypso being attacked on the news.
    • Luz hid the Sword of Adam under the floorboards of her room for Amity in case the coven scouts searched the Owl House.
    • Goregon had Arthur and Destiny turn his abomi-armor into a rhino battlesuit since he read about them in a book he found.
    • Weaselton, Ruth, Zepher and Brian were also freed from prison and mutated by Sonya.
    • Captain Hook worked with Grimhilde until the Tarot Guild sought him out and offered him another chance to take out Amity by giving him the Abomatron.
    • When Alador attempted to track down Amity after she was outed, Arthur and Destiny imprisoned him below Blight Industries. As a result, he figured out they, Terra, and Gibson have been brainwashing him with Terra's tea.
    • Odalia poisoned Griffin and Gretchen, and Geist learned the truth almost instantly.
    • Willow has been taken by the Ninja Supreme as well.
    • Both of Riley's parents are healers.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Arthur is so distraught over Destiny's demise that he moves too much and weakens the abomination goop that Alador and Amity are using to hold him up. Before long, it snaps when he tries to kill himself and Odalia and he falls imto a vat of abomination matter while Emira saves her mother.
  • Saying Too Much: Hook ends up revealing to the rescue team that Arthur and Destiny are Tarot Guild members; this warrants their deaths at the Goblin's hands so the CAT's can't get any information out of the Evil Old Folks.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once Hook figures out he's outmatched by Gus, Viney, Acorn, Geist Sly, and Darius (and Gus scares him with a crocodile illusion), he escapes offscreen.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Some of LOWTH agrees to not push Sarah into revealing her secrets until she's ready to tell them.
    • Emira is considering starting a Bonesborough branch of LOWTH with Gavin, the SSE, Edric, and Viney as members.
    • While Emira accepts what Odalia did to Gretchen and Griffin, Amity, Edric, and Alador are on the fence but the latter decides the whole family must talk things out.
    • Odalia is unsure if she should face punishment for murdering her parents once Belos is gone, but whatever the choice, Geist will support her.
    • Raine suggests finding a cure for the Glandus students' mutations, and question them about the Tarot Guild.
    • Edric and Emira have been offered membership with the CAT's, but what will their answers be?
    • The chapter ends with a skeleton hand (likely Arthur's) popping out of an abomination puddle in a lake.
  • Ship Tease:
    • The second Riley and Sarah hear that Edric is multi-tracking with their tracks as his subjects, they take an interest in him offering to help him improve in those fields. For Sarah, she moves on and lets Riley have a shot with Ed the moment she hears the male Blight won't date anybody with Dark Secrets.
    • Once Sarah hears about Jerbo's process for creating plant abominations, she hands him an Atos Foundation card and asks to continue discussing it over coffee brew.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Emira, disgusted by Arthur trying to shake her family's trust in Odalia, has this to say;
SHUT THE FUCK UP! You two need to shut up cause you have no place to say anything! As bad as my mother is, you two are the worst. So kindly shut the fuck up!
  • Tempting Fate: Saturday/Splatterday morning, Emira and Viney get frisky while in Viney's bed, with Viney brushing off Emira's concerns of Betty walking in on them. Not even five seconds later, Betty is about to enter the room and the girls' attempt to act natural sends them falling out of bed.
  • Trash the Set: Just like in canon-"Clouds on the Horizon", Blight Industries is destroyed following a battle.
  • The Un-Reveal:
    • What is Sarah's complicated backstory?
    • It's confirmed that the Ninja Supreme kidnapped Willow, but whether he got Donna and Cross after the last chapter's ending isn't.
    • Was Arthur mutated when he fell into the abomination vat that was emptied out?
  • Villain Reveals the Secret: Subverted. In a last ditch effort at escaping punishment at his son's hands, Arthur warns Alador that he'd be no better than Odalia if he killed him which Emira questions. The rest of their family soon arrives and Arthur prepares to spill the beans, but Emira tells them herself to rob him of the satisfaction he could get from tearing her family apart again.
  • Wham Episode: The Blights rescue Alador and his siblings, Destiny is killed while Arthur is implied to have been mutated, Odalia is revealed to be her parents' murderer which she considers taking accountability for, the remaining Glandus top students and Amity's muggers are captured by the CAT's for interrogation, and Amity and Gus are informed of Luz, Willow, and Nina going missing.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Odalia says this in vertabim when she and Edric see the latest Captain Coven comic pictures the title character fighting a Fae that's clearly meant to represent Amity.
