Art by Crash X Fusion: Don't expect anybody to crave pizza or shout "Cowabunga!"
Taken to the Yokai Realm to become the Alchemist's test subjects, the captured witch teens must band together if they want to escape.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Chelsea calls Nina "Little Thunder", something she hasn't done for some time. In Chelsea's words, Nina's earned the nickname.
  • All for Nothing: Raine had hoped to keep the Covens Against the Throne a secret from Luz and Eda so they wouldn't get involved with them for their own safety. Eda had learned about the rebel cell from Raine two chapters ago and because of Amity continuing to uphold the girls' vow to not keep secrets from each other, Luz now knows of their existence.
  • Always Someone Better: Possibly. After seeing how high the energy readings of Willow's aura is, the Alchemist declares that she has the potential to be far more powerful than Terra is now.
  • Amazon Brigade: The kidnapped witchlings act as such with Kelly and Darby being Sixth Rangers after they're freed and Cross being The One Guy until Mitch joins the team.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After hearing from Mitch about what Amphibia's currently going through, Luz immediately chooses to go there and help Marcy only for Kitsuni to deny her request. When Luz attempts to argue, Kitsuni brings up Amity and Eda being worried sick about her and asks if she wants them to worry more by going to another realm so soon, which gets her to put it off for another day.
  • Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: At first, the Alchemist has his mutants fight the witches and the other escaped prisoners to prevent them from going any farther. The moment the Supreme Daimyo comes to arrest him and his accomplices though, he orders the Ninja Supreme to abandon the fight so they can escape.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It looks like Amity, Gus, the Clawthorne sisters, and Kitsuni are going to get the location of the Alchemist's base and storm it to save the captured witchlings. Kitsuni instead has the Yokai authorities storm the base to avoid putting them at risk.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Before fighting Willow and capturing her, the Ninja Supreme tells her he wants to see what she can do while she's angry. When the witchlings escape their restraints and he binds Willow in chains, she summons several trees to fight him, telling him she's about to give him what he wanted.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Diana and Gladys' reactions to Donna mentioning she was kidnapped twice in one day.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The witchlings return home after escaping the Alchemist's base and freeing his other prisoners, but the Alchemist, the Ninja Supreme, and Aka & Aoi escape with their data on the kids. Nina officially becomes friends with Chelsea, Anthony, and Banjo and receives an apology from her mother for her neglect, while Donna decides to give the werecat some space before she can make amends with her, practically ending her friendship with Felicia for her role in making things worse between them. Nina joins Luz and Skara in their formation of the Bard Beast Girls and Donna gets Cally's side of what happened with Nina attacking her, but Kitsuni now has to possess Todd so she can live and everyone is shocked to learn that Emily's returned to working for the Emperor's Coven to help Hunter take down the Tarot Guild for good.
  • Brick Joke: As part of her distracting the Ninja Supreme so Nina can snag Donna's key from him, Luz calls him a "butt-baby". When Kitsuni kicks off the Ninja's mask and his unshaven face is revealed, Luz notes that her insult was accurate.
  • Brutal Honesty: Luz and Maya, as always. Maya defuses an argument between Nina, Donna, and Cross about their drama then tells them to screw each other already, while Luz doesn't hold back on telling Donna that she messed up by taking Felicia's advice to get Nina to notice her again.
  • Call-Back:
    • The Alchemist admits to his captured prisoners that he and the Ninja Supreme have been observing Luz and Nina since the Bonesborough Brawl, but it was the IFWOT that made him decide to bring all five of them to his realm to be turned into mutant warriors.
    • The Teenage Demon Ninja Reptiles that Felicia brought up in "A Very Special Donna" are real, and they're from the Yokai Realm.
    • Rocky said to Brucy four chapters ago that they'd have a chance at getting more screentime, and he oozes happiness when Luz summons him so she can perform for everyone alongside the Bard Beast Girls.
  • Calling Your Attacks: "TEN-THOUSAND VOLTAGE OF DEATH!", said Luz as she uses the Ninja Supreme's probe stick to electrocute him on his rear end as her finishing move.
  • The Cameo:
    • Quirky Guy appears among the Alchemist's prisoners.
    • Rocky is summoned when Luz is about to perform with Skara and Nina.
    • Hunter and Emily show up in the last scene, now partners working together to bring down the Tarot Guild once and for all.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Donna relives some memories of Nina such as their first meeting, her rejection, and Skara telling her off for what happened on the triple date.
    • Cross tells Donna about Kitsuni bringing everyone home from the Underworld.
    • Amity mentions Mai telling her about the Yokai Realm. The Supreme Daimyo also refers to her and Luz as the "Hellcat" and the "Hellish Baseball Girl".
    • Rocky gets to have more screentime since he came back in "Thank Titan It's Frieday".
    • During the Bard Beast Girls' performance, Slasher thinks of Calypso hoping she pulls through her surgery and transition into a vampire.
    • Luz notes that she and Cross have been teaming up a lot recently, listing off the Underworld and the IFWOT alongside fighting the Alchemist as examples.
  • Curse Cut Short: Nina ends the chapter about to shout "motherf—ker" upon seeing the Silver Sentry's identity but is cut off after the first half of the swear.
  • Demonic Possession: Because of the Ninja Supreme destroying her body, Kitsuni somehow takes control of Todd's body to avoid dying.
  • Dirty Coward: For all his claims about being an unbeaten warrior, the only reason the Ninja Supreme captured Luz, Donna and Cross is because they were either already exhausted from numerous battles or he ambushed them without even fighting them. He doesn't even fight Nina; the Alchemist does.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: One of Donna's memories shows her having Veronica and Tina tie her up as practice for escaping capture and she asks them to put a ball gag in her mouth. Donna cuts it off before it finishes, clearly not wanting to remember it herself.
  • Double Take: Before the witchlings leave the lab, Cross remembers the Alchemist's other prisoners and says they have to free them, and Nina agrees. Donna begins to argue and convince her to help only to realize she said Cross is right.
  • Dragon Rider: While fighting the Ninja Supreme's shadow Clones, Nina rides atop Cross's back while he's in dragon form.
  • Dramatic Unmask:
    • Subverted with the Alchemist, as while Cross damages his mask enough to crack it, he retreats from fighting the witches so Aoi and Aka can repair it.
    • Played straight with the Ninja Supreme, Kitsuni kicking him hard enough to knock his mask off and reveal his face.
    • By Belos' decree, Hunter reveals himself as the Golden Guard to the rest of the Boiling Isles. Soon after, his new partner the Silver Sentry does the same...and is revealed to be Emily Tricks.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Cross, Donna, and Nina shoot deadpan glares at Maya for telling them to get over themselves and "just f#€k each other already".
  • Due to the Dead: As a tribute to Casey, Nina has Luz and Skara perform his last song with her to the patrons in Pour-ta-Geist, officially debuting together as the Bard Beast Girls.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Sometime after Donna started working as a worm striper, Dr. Pox started calling her "D.A". What it stands for, and thus why she considers it embarrassing, isn't stated.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Hibari refuses to return home to his family until he becomes the supreme warrior. His feelings toward his father and Miwa are unclear, but he shows he loves his mother if his anger towards Luz for insulting her is anything to go by.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Mad as she is with Donna, Nina can't help feeling bad for her after learning about her past and her identity crisis.
    • Felicia feels bad about her advice putting Donna in an awkward position with Nina and Cross, even if she tries to brush it off.
    • Luz, the queen of Brutal Honesty, is surprised by how bluntly Donna tells Felicia to leave her alone because of said advice.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: Diana and Gladys meet the Drakescales after being brought to Pour-ta-Geist so Eda and Kitsuni could explain what happened to their kids to them. Because of this, Eda meets Clair and begins to feel like they've met before.
  • Expy:
    • Aoi and Aka are ones to Huginn and Muninn.
    • The Teenage Reptile Ninja Demons are obviously based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Kose is the Leo, Jocho is the Raph, Fuyuko is the Donatello, and Koun is the Mikey.
    • O'Darby the witch-leprechaun hybrid is based off of Izzy.
    • The Supreme Daimyo is based off of the Ultimate Daimyo and his advisor Giichi is based off of Zazu.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The Alchemist tells the witches that him kidnapping them is a far better fate than either the Day of Unity or the Tarot Guild's endgame for the Boiling Isles.
  • Flipping the Bird: Luz does this to Hibari after Willow summons trees to use against him.
  • Foreshadowing: When Kitsuni shows up at the CAT's base sporting her new look, she also has two voices coming out of her mouth as she speaks. Sure enough, she's later revealed to be using someone else's body after the Ninja Supreme tried to kill her and only succeeded in destroying her own.
  • Forgiveness: Pam apologizes to Nina for failing to help her with her problems in her youth and what she and Leo said to Nina the previous week, now having come to understand why she was miserable growing up in Torso Villa.
  • Freak Out: Luz and Nina both panic upon seeing they're strapped to tables, Luz being reminded of Asi torturing her and Nina of Sonya experimenting on her.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: The Teenage Demon Reptile Ninja are composed of two boys (Kose and Jocho) and two girls (Fuyuko and Koun).
  • The Ghost:
    • Kitsuni gives apologies to Mai, Jack, and Julia right before she "perishes".
    • Star and the basilisks are brought up after Eda asks Lilith if they're safe. Luz brings up the former and Vee after Donna fills her in about what occured in King's tower.
    • Anne, Sasha, Marcy, and Andrias are brought up, Mitch not knowing what became of the former two after Andrias began enslaving his people. Grime and his sister Beatrix are also brought up.
  • Given Name Reveal: The Ninja Supreme has an actual name: Hibari. He uses his title because he no longer accepts his birth name.
  • Glomp: The moment the witchlings return home and reach Pour-ta-Geist, Amity teleports in front of Luz to wrap her in a full body hug. Willow and Donna are swept into hugs by their parents, Zee and Clair hug Cross (after Zee slugs him for making them worry), and Nina pulls Skara and Lambi into an embrace.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Averted both ways for Cross and Donna. Nina refers to Cross as Donna's boyfriend while freaking out, and Zee calls Donna Cross' girlfriend as she tells him about their parents meeting and talking with each other. Neither one of them denies the accusations; at least for the first accusation, they had no time to respond due to having more pressing matters to deal with.
  • I Have Many Names:
    • Giichi lists many titles of the Supreme Daimyo such as Yokai Shogun, Leader of the Realm, and "Champion of something" (the Daimyo himself cuts him off at the last one for getting up in Luz's face when she says she doesn't know who he is.)
    • The Daimyo mentions that Luz has gained a new nickname besides the "Hellish Baseball Girl" and "Slayer of the Coachman"; the "Conqueror of the Underdome."
  • Innocently Insensitive: Willow, seeing that Cross isn't accepting of the idea that he's getting more involved with Luz, simply tells him he'll get used to it. It's not like she knows why he sees that as a bad thing, but still.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Luz, Willow, Nina, Donna, and Cross visit the Yokai Realm for the first time.
    • Because of the Alchemist, Nina learns that Cross is a dragon.
    • Luz gets an update about the state of Amphibia after King Andrias began conquering it, Marcy becoming a prisoner, and Sasha disappearing.
    • Luz, Nina, and Donna exchange news about their adventures at the Tarot Guild bunker and King's island. Luz, Willow, and Nina learn about Donna's birth family and Draco & Lupe killing them in the process.
    • Luz, Willow, Nina, Donna, and Cross learn from the Alchemist that the Tarot Guild is trying to stop the Day of Unity.
    • Hunter reveals he's the Golden Guard to the rest of the Isles and everyone who didn't already know about Emily being back does now.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: To learn how Donna was created, the Alchemist attempts to inspect her memories and she ends up joining him. When he leaves, she presses on and finds memories of an invading force before she's forced out.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite taking a lot of hits from their kidnapping victims, the Alchemist and the Ninja Supreme eventually escape before they can be arrested and take all the data they gathered from the kids with them.
  • Kicked Upstairs: Emily ends up getting this treatment from the Emperor's Coven again, this time being given her own identity instead of serving as the Golden Guard again.
  • Kidnapped for Experimentation: What the Alchemist does to the warriors he and the Ninja Supreme kidnaps. He wants to turn them into mutant warriors and soldiers for his army, and he sees taking the witches from their homes and families as more merciful than dying from what the Tarot Guild plans to do to the Isles.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Luz compares her experience with the "Human Realm" and "Underworld" Arcs, stating the whole kidnapping thing to be overdone.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The Ninja is soundly defeated in battle by the witches (with Luz shocking him with his own weapon) and they show the Alchemist they're strong enough to face him, Cross slamming him hard enough to crack his mask and force a retreat. They both later have to run for it when Yokai P.D. drop in to arrest them.
  • Little "No": The Ninja Supreme says this upon seeing his father, the Supreme Daimyo storm the Alchemist's base to arrest them for their crimes.
  • Musical Number Annoyance: The Ninja Supreme voices his disdain with Aoi and Aka's Villain Song when it ends, with Cross trying to stop the Alchemist from joining in and failing.
  • Noodle Incident: The Ninja Reptiles met Felicia when they previously saved her from Glandus muggers.
  • The Nose Knows: Nina had a small idea that Cross wasn't entirely a witch since he smells like ash.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Eda has a small one when Emira tells everyone that Beocrow got a message from Donna's parents saying Whirlwind and Elio came to her home without their owners.
    • Amity panics upon figuring out that the Alchemist plans to mutate Luz and the other captured witchlings.
    • Cross gets nervous when the Alchemist announces he's a dragon as Nina doesn't take long to put the puzzle together, especially when Donna looks at him.
    • Luz howls "OH SHIT!" when the kids find themselves having to battle the Alchemist's mutants.
    • Aoi, Aka, and the Ninja Supreme don't react well when the Supreme Daimyo and his forces appear to arrest them with his forces.
    • Everyone is horrified that Emily is now working with Hunter, Luz, Eda, Gus, Nina, Donna, and Cross being shown taking the news the hardest.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The beginning of the chapter shows the outcomes of the Ninja Supreme's battles with Kitsuni, Willow, Luz, and Bria.
  • The One Guy: Like on King's island earlier in the day, Cross is initially the only male member of a makeshift team fighting a villain who kidnapped him and Donna until the team gets reinforcements.
  • Prehensile Tail: While Luz distracts the Ninja Supreme, Nina swipes Donna's keyblade from him using her tail.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Nina shoots off a lot of these when she sees Emily is once again on the payroll of the Emperor's Coven as Hunter's partner.
  • Real After All: The legend of Momotarō, the boy born from a peach. Long ago, he moved to the Yokai Realm and started a family; he is the ancestor of the Supreme Daimyo and his children.
  • The Reveal:
    • The Ninja Supreme killed Kitsuni to keep her from interfering with his mission. Her body was destroyed, but her spirit somehow merged with Todd's body to keep her alive.
    • Cross and Donna didn't fight the Ninja Supreme; he ambushed them and knocked them out with electrified equipment.
    • The Alchemist plans to mutate warriors from across the realms, including Earth and Mewni, into an army for himself. He agreed to work with the Tarot Guild if they supplied him with witches to experiment on (likely the other kidnapping victims) and he offered the Yokai Realm up as a failsafe location in case their plan to stop the Day of Unity somehow fails.
    • The test results on Nina reveal that all of Sonya's experimenting on her has left her DNA genetically unstable.
    • Donna was genetically created, supposedly meant to be a bioweapon.
    • Felicia is friends with a quartet of green-skinned ninja kappas who escaped from the Alchemist and took up residency in Latissa's sewers, acting as informants for her.
    • As Chelsea points out, werecats with sisterly bonds call each other "kitkat". In short, Nina's been calling Skara her sister all day.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • After feeling that his mask has been cracked, the Alchemist turns invisible and escapes from the witchlings.
    • Seeing the Supreme Daimyo enter his base with the Yokai P.D. from several portals, the Alchemist orders the Ninja Supreme to retreat.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • While in her mind, Donna hears a voice telling her she's not ready to learn about her true identity. It leaves her feeling more conflicted about who she's meant to be.
    • The Alchemist, the Ninja Supreme, Aoi, and Aka escape justice and take their data on the witchlings, blood samples, and a physical copy of Donna's memories with them.
    • Luz tells Mitch the toad warrior to mention her if he ever meets the Calamity Trio.
    • The Supreme Daimyo considers inviting the witchlings to a tournament.
    • Luz hopes to go to Amphibia someday in order to find out what's happening there.
    • As a result of Donna repeatedly being kidnapped, Diana decides to get her a bodyguard. After meeting the Drakescales and hearing about how responsible Cross is, Gladys decides he'll be perfect for the job.
    • Amity fears that if the news about Odalia murdering her parents gets out, she'll be petrified for it. All Luz can do is tell Amity that after she finishes processing it, she has to accept that it can't be undone.
    • Donna knows she has to make amends with Nina over what she did on their date the previous night, but agrees with Luz that she needs to give the werecat space for now.
    • On another note, Donna practically ends her friendship with Felicia for giving her bad dating advice but intends to talk to her later.
    • Eda begins to recognize Clair upon meeting her, but doesn't see their connection yet.
Lilith: Oh, I'm sure you'll figure it out, Edalyn...
    • Nina's family make amends with her and Pam seems to decide on getting a divorce from Leo after what he used her to save himself. They also understand if Nina wants to be an official member of the Brooke family, but promise her she's welcome to return to Torso Villa to see them and the triplets when they're born.
    • Kitsuni's spirit is now sharing Todd's body with him, and he notes it's going to take some getting used to.
    • Hunter has now been tasked with seeking out the last of the Tarot Guild and watching over his new partner, the Silver Sentry. Said new partner is Emily, begging the questions of how and why she's back in the Emperor's Coven.
  • Sharing a Body: Kitsuni's situation with Todd after the Ninja Supreme was done with her, which was confirmed by Word of God.
  • Shock and Awe: The Ninja Supreme uses taser-like rods to subdue Cross and Donna. Later, Luz uses the same weapon to tase him in the ass.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The chapter is stocked up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles references:
      • The title itself is based on the 2023 movie Mutant Mayhem.
      • Aoi, Aka, and the Alchemist sing "Warring Warrior Scientist", with altered lyrics.
      • The Teenage Demon Reptile Ninja are based on the turtles, specifically their Rise of the TMNT incarnations due to their history with the Alchemist. The fact that they have female members brings to mind the original fifth turtle, Venus de Milo, or in more recent years, Jennika.
      • Koun having a yellow bandana references both Jennika and Leo having this as his color in promos for Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.
      • The Supreme Daimyo is an expy of the Daimyo from the 2003 series.
      • The Supreme Daimyo has a daughter named Miwa. Hamato Miwa was Karai's true name in the 2012 series.
      • Two of the mutants the Alchemist created are a rhinoceros and a warthog, clear nods to Rocksteady and Bebop.
      • The Supreme Daimyo mentions inviting the witchlings back to the Yokai Realm for a tournament in the future. This brings to mind the Battle Nexus.
      • Emily's new mantle, the Silver Sentry, is a nod to the superhero of the same name and was a friend of Michelangelo in the 2003 series.
    • As Luz insults Hibari, she calls him a Naruto wannabe and asks if the title of "Ultimate Ninja" was taken. He also summons shadow clones to fight the witchlings.
    • Kelly the Woolett from Star vs. the Forces of Evil appears as one of the Alchemist's prisoners. Quirky Guy also makes a cameo.
    • As she mentions their parents having talked with Donna's, Zee says they explained how much of a boy scout Cross is. Considering his basis, this may be a reference to Eddie calling Peter the same thing in Spider-Man 3.
    • The song the Bard Beast Girls perform in Casey's memory is "Die Anywhere Else".
  • So Proud of You: Jageera hints to Nina that Mao is proud of her given that she's impressed Nina won a blue ribbon at the IFWOT.
  • Spanner in the Works: Amity mentions the CAT's to Luz despite Gus saying the rebel cell may have been supposed to be a secret; Amity brings up her and Luz's promise not to hide anything from each other and points out she'd find out about them eventually.
  • Split-Personality Makeover: Due to possessing Todd's body, Kitsuni has a new appearance when she's in control; now, she has orange fur, blue eyes, long white hair, her nine tails are out, she wears a kimono and gauntlets, and she has a golden flame atop her head.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Instead of taking Amity, Eda, Lilith, and Gus to the Yokai Realm to save their friends and loved ones, Kitsuni drops a dime to the Supreme Daimyo so he can arrest the Alchemist for his crimes.
  • Storm the Castle: After being tipped off by Kitsuni, the Supreme Daimyo and his forces teleport into the Alchemist's base ready to arrest him and rescue all of his victims.
  • Super-Senses: Cross shows signs of having these as he hears the Ninja Supreme before he assaults him and Donna and later lands a hit on the Ninja while he's hiding thanks to his keen eyesight.
  • That Man Is Dead
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Pretty much how Cross is feeling about getting roped into Luz's adventures on a regular basis.
Willow: [smiling] You'll get used to it, new guy.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Luz warns the Ninja Supreme that she'll kick his ass for kidnapping her and her friends, a threat he brushes off. Luz makes good on it when the kids team up and put him in his place, with Luz using his taser rod to shock him on the butt.
  • The Un-Reveal:
    • What is the meaning behind the armed forces Donna saw in her memories?
    • What is the Alchemist hiding behind his mask that he doesn't want anyone to see?
    • How the f#€king hell did Emily end back up working for the Emperor's Coven?
  • Villain Song: "Warring Warrior Scientist",as performed by the Alchemist, Aoi, and Aka.
  • The Voiceless: While Drayden appears with the rest of his family, he has no lines in this chapter.
  • Wants a Prize for Basic Decency: Played With. The Alchemist expects the witches to be thankful that he's "saving" them from the Tarot Guild's master plan, and sees them as being ungrateful when they complain about him justifying his kidnapping them.
  • Wham Shot:
    • After taking blood samples from the witchlings, it's noted that Luz's blood has a strange coloration that isn't made clear.
    • One of the cages with prisoners contains a warrior covered in aquamarine hair. That's right: it's Kelly of Woolandia!
    • Once Kitsuni is alone after taking Felicia home, she sheds off her disguise, revealing herself to have been Todd.
    • Hunter now has a new partner called the Silver Sentry, who is also unmasked as Emily Tricks.
  • The Worf Effect: All of the witchlings are powerhouses, but the Ninja Supreme and the Alchemist captures all of them with ease. Maya defensively credits her loss to her and Luz being low on energy due to fighting Sonya and her chimeras.
  • You've Gotta Be Kidding Me!:
    • This is Willow's response to seeing that the Alchemist's base is a building shaped like a rabbit's head.
    • Luz says this in vertabim the moment she sees that Emily's become the Silver Sentry.
  • Your Mom: While distracting the Ninja Supreme, Luz calls him a "butt baby" that got stuck in his mother's bum. Hibari is greatly insulted and threatens to cut off her tongue before Nina escapes and pounces on him.
