Art by Crash X Fusion: Can you tell that a road trip's gonna happen?

In the Human Realm, Amity starts her Fae training, Camila adjusts to life in Gravity Falls, and then they join their friends on a road trip. Meanwhile, Gus P. and Eve's excursion to Earth has some light shed upon it.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Adaptational Romance Downgrade: With Vee having developed feelings for someone before she got to meet Masha, she never develops a crush on the human.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: With her Unfinished Business in checking up on Gus P. accomplished, Vaggie's spirit heads to the afterlife. To her surprise, she's brought to Heaven.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Vaggie tells Fazio that she appreciates his friendship and looking out for Gus after what happened to her before telling him to stop taking responsibility for her fate. It gets Fazio out of his funk and allows him to make peace with Vaggie's death.
  • Blatant Lies: When Pacifica calls out Candy about what's going on between her and Dipper, she denies her accusations. However, she's blushing as she does so before Grenda gets her to crack.
  • The Bus Came Back:
  • Call-Back:
  • Cast Full of Gay: It's lampshaded by Gus G. when he learns that Vee's a lesbian.
Gus G: Man, it kinda feels like all the girls I've met lately are gay, bi, or otherwise queer. Clara's into Masha, Luz and Amity are a couple, so are Willow and Skara, Pacifica is [Mabel]'s girlfriend...
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Amity officially begins her training with Sly to control her Fae powers. While demonstrating her normal magic, she uses her Nightmare Face illusion spell.
    • Dipper recalls his encounter with Pa and Ma Duskerton along with mentioning how they died.
    • Luz and Eda leave Kay under Tabrella's care so they wouldn't have to ask the coven scouts watching the Owl House to look after her again.
    • Gus P. brings up his journey through Hell, saying it's not different from Vegas.
    • Vee calls Human Gus "Double G", the nickname Luz gave him in Chapter 91.
  • Crazy-Prepared: On the off-chance everybody runs into trouble (such as the Archangels) while on the road, Abigail tells the kids the agents are prepared for it, and she takes her handgun with her.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The majority of the chapter is set on Earth but has two plots.
    • The A-plot sees Amity and Camila having the most focus between the former beginning her training with Sly and the latter making herself familiar with Gravity Falls since she'll be living there now. The two of them then join the former Gatesfieldians, the Gravity Falls kids, and Vee on a road trip all over Oregon.
    • The B-plot has Gus P. and Eve preparing to have a seancé so the former can have closure with Vaggie, and they use the portal to travel to Las Vegas so they can get one of her personal belongings from Fazio to do it.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Oberon actually believed he could make the Collector a Fae so he could manipulate the Child from the Stars.
Sly: Boy was he wrong… very wrong…
  • Emotional Powers: Sly reveals that Amity's abilities of flight and teleportation are affected by her emotions and confidence, and they're more powerful when both are stronger.
  • Everyone Can See It: Pacifica, Grenda, and Gus G. all pick up on Candy and Dipper's attraction towards each other and respectively confront them about it in the RV park, getting confirmations out of both of them.
  • Extra-Dimensional Shortcut: According to Sly, Fae and other magical creature travel through realms by using their ability to find and access shortcuts between realms, which they call "Wandering". Puck used this to find Neverland, and Amity can unlock it once her senses become more attuned.
  • Freudian Slip:
    • While flirting with a girl at the Yarn Ball, Vee introduces herself as "Five" before correcting herself.
    • Seeing Candy with crafted cat tips on her fingers, Dipper calls her adorable rather than the tips, causing a twin Crush Blush.
  • Friendship Moment: Now that Clara knows Vee's not into Masha, she asks to start over properly as friends. Vee accepts, despite admitting she thought the two of them were already friends.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: As the only guys on the road trip, Dipper, Gus G, and Rudo end up hanging out together while the group stays in an RV park for the night. Dipper notes that it's even more strange for him since he's never hung out with other guys without the girls around.
  • Funny Background Event: While Amity converses with everyone in Soos' house, Ghost tries to eat Acorn (again).
  • Green Thumb: Amity's already got this skill, and Sly's own usage of it provides her the capability to make flowers bloom instantly without drawing spell circles.
  • An Ice Person: While demonstrating her known spells to Sly, Amity shows that she can use ice magic.
  • Idiot Ball: Oberon freed the Collector from his prison and made him a Fae thinking he could control him. From Sly's choice of words, the former lord of the Unseelies had a tight grip on this.
  • Imposed Handicap Training: Since Amity instinctively keeps drawing spell circles early on in her training, Sly plays musical notes that prevent her from doing so the next time she tries.
  • Incompatible Orientation: While talking about girls with Dipper and Rudo, Gus G. admits he thinks Vee's cute. Dipper, knowing why Vee's been talking with girls throughout the day, has to break it to him that he doesn't have a shot since she's gay.
Dipper: Trust me, Gus, it's better that you know now.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Dipper, Candy, and Grenda go on the road trip across Oregon to various tourist traps because Ford doesn't want them around for one of his experiments.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Dipper, Soos, Mabel's friends, Vee, the former Gatesfieldians, and Blubs & Durland meet Sly for the first time.
    • Eve travels to Las Vegas and meets Vaggie for the first time.
    • Gus P. informs Vaggie of everything that happened to him after she died, informing Fazio of his adventures in Hell, the Underworld, and Luz and Amity's mock wedding in the process.
    • Clara discovers that Vee's crushing on Star and in turn, Vee learns that Clara has feelings for Masha.
    • Amity and the former Gatesfield teens find out about Dipper and Candy's mutual attraction.
    • Luz mentions that she and Eda decided to explaing Amity's Fae status to Tabrella.
  • Kick the Dog: Granny Sweetkins wastes no time cheering about Stan's arrest to Dipper's face, earning the scorn of his friends.
  • Kid Has a Point: While discussing the trip, Gus G. points out the risk of leaving Gravity Falls with the Archangels still a threat, a fact Clara agrees with. Abigail assures them that while their concerns are valid, there's nothing to worry about.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: An indirect case. Ghost messes with Granny Sweetkins' Giant Yarn Ball causing it to roll away and forcing her to chase after it, serving as cosmic payback for mocking Dipper.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Before continuing with her training after getting to ask questions, Amity asks Sly if they can do it to a montage, and he agrees since it'll save time.
  • Luminescent Blush: Vee has one when Dipper asks if basilisks shed their skin and another when Masha compliments her after she confesses to liking a girl.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Covers the first half of "Roadside Attraction" as a two-part arc.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: When Candy confesses her crush on Dipper to the girls and Dipper does the same with the guys, Mabel wakes up sensing a disturbance from her home.
  • Mythology Gag: Amity and Sly make a nod to Moringmark's version of a Training Montage.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Sly pops up from behind the van that'll be used for the road trip to tell Amity to go with everybody. Nora immediately questions where he came from, but he gives a cryptic answer.
  • Once More, with Clarity:
    • Gus P. and Eve's excursion to the Human Realm is explained, and Simon asking Willow to take his place in the IFWOT has a brief glimpse.
    • Dipper trying to help Mabel when she got possessed by Bill is given an explanation.
  • Out of Focus: Luz, Eda, and Willow have brief appearances when they arrive at Hexside, and the Clawthornes are shown arriving home after the IFWOT just as Gus P. and Eve come back.
  • Point of Divergence: To the first half of "Roadside Attraction"; Vee replaces Dipper as the socially awkward kid learning how to talk to girls during the road trip while Dipper spends his time with Candy as she helps him keep his mind off of Stan and Mabel not being with them. Aside from Granny Sweetkins, the Falls gang doesn't mess with any of the roadside attractions they come across, and Soos doesn't come on the journey so Pacifica takes his place.
    • Amity was never shown using plant magic outside of flashbacks and when she did in the present, it was by using Luz's glyphs; here, she uses her own magic in present time. She also knows ice magic and discovers the Collector is a Child of the Stars onscreen.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Sly allows Amity to go on the road trip so she can spend time with her friends and unofficial mother-in-law, reminding her to have fun and not just train.
  • Rescue Romance: As cliché as it is, Vee admits that she fell for Star back when she and Lilith saved the basilisk from being vivisected by Victor.
  • The Reveal:
    • Amity is revealed to be capable of using ice magic.
    • Sly goes through some revelations with Amity regarding Fae magic and her half-Fae status.
      • The Fae's Wandering ability is what allows them to travel between realms. One such shortcut is the Second Star on the Right.
      • Amity's flight and teleportation are linked to her emotions.
      • Achieving Dragon forms are an advanced skill for Fae. Since Amity's only half-Fae and can't shapeshift, she won't be able to unlock one.
      • Amity can still age and die like normal mortals.
      • To become a full Fae, one would have to fully let go of their mortality. As long as Amity isn't willing to do so, she won't become full Fae until adulthood.
    • The Collector was once an already powerful being before Oberon turned him into a Fae.
    • Sly demonstrates that he can use plant magic.
    • Camila has a young cousin named Lois, whom Abigail mentions is currently in NYC working as a reporter.
    • Luz and Eda have gotten Tabrella updated about Amity, so now they're having her babysit Kay whenever they're out of the house.
    • Vaggie's father attended the small funeral Fazio put together and collected all of her belongings.
    • Dipper started developing feelings for Candy when Bill stole Mabel's body.
  • Romantic Wingman: Gender-inverted. Amity spends her time on the road trip giving Vee advice on how to talk to girls as practice for when she asks out Star next time she comes to Earth. Before leaving the Yarn Ball, she acts as an indirect wingwoman for Clara by asking her to switch vehicles with Vee, allowing her to ride together with Masha in the van.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Camila now has a house in Gravity Falls for when Luz shows up to spend the Fall in the Human Realm. She makes it clear to Amity that she can stay with them as well.
    • Because of Lazy Susan tipping off Toby Determined, all of Gravity Falls will soon learn of Luz moving to town in the near future.
    • McGucket is going to speak at a L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. convention soon.
    • Camila knows she will have to contact hers and Manny's families and tell them she and Luz are alive.
    • Abigail has pretty much decided to settle down with Clara in Gravity Falls, and Clara agrees to it as long as her friends can stay. Of course, this also means Abigail will need to talk to Frank about this...
    • Having gotten closure with Vaggie's death, Gus P. and Fazio are ready to move on from it, with Fazio deciding to get a new job since being a magician isn't working out.
    • Prior to the séance, Eve notes that Gus P. has a lot of know-how with oracle magic. Whether he wants to expand upon it isn't made clear.
    • Amity, the Gravity Falls kids, the former Gatesfield teens, Camila, Abigail, and Nora are about to go to Mystery Mountain. At Gus G. and Rudo's suggestion, Dipper decides to ask Candy out there.
    • Vee intends to ask out Star the next time she sees her, and since she has no romantic rival to worry about, Clara is free to ask Masha out with no interference.
    • Adam gives Vaggie a job upon her arrival in Heaven.
  • Ship Sinking: Masha/Vee goes down as Vee had fallen for Star by the time she met and befriended Masha.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Something We Forgot: Subverted compared to canon. Rudo takes Soos' place in getting lost in the corn maze, but Amity finds him before the group even gets into the vehicles to leave.
  • Spooky Séance: Gus P's plotline revolves around taking Eve to Las Vegas to meet with Fazio and perform one in order to see Vaggie. The two of them are able to make peace with her and tell her what Gus went through after her death before she ascends to Heaven.
  • Starting a New Life: Camila has officially begun doing this after moving to Gravity Falls. It's later implied the Gates girls, the Gordons, and the other kids' families will be doing this.
  • Synchronous Episodes: This chapter occurs at the same time as "For the HECK of It" and "So IFWOT?", showing what Amity, Gus, and Eve were up to.
  • Take That!: While not overt with it, the chapter does a better job of demonstrating the moral of one of Gravity Falls' weakest episodes.
  • Took a Level in Badass: With her training from Sly officially beginning, Amity begins to take one of these as she starts using her Fae powers properly.
  • Training Montage: Amity goes through one as she tries to learn how to use her Fae powers without drawing spell circles, all while Sly performs "Eye of the Tiger".
  • True Companions: Fazio comes out of the séance knowing he and Vaggie were a pair of these.
  • The Un-Reveal:
    • What was Clara doing out of town with her friends on Wednesday?
    • How did Vaggie's father learn about the funeral?
    • As the guys talk about girls, Dipper and Gus G. question Rudo about whether he and Dana are Just Friends or romantically involved. Before the long-haired boy can answer, the scene changes to the moms in the hot tub.
    • Camila mentions that she didn't see Manny in afterlife Purgatory and wonders if he passed on: this ends up raising other questions.
    • Why did Adam bring Vaggie's spirit into Heaven, and what's the job he's offering her?
  • Wham Shot: Vaggie is shown waking up in Heaven, where she is greeted by Adam and an Exorcist.
