Recap / Epic Rap Battles Of History Donald Trump Vs Hillary Clinton

Go To

The year is 2016, and the USA must choose between two Presidential candidates: Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton (played by Kimmy Gatewood) and Republican Donald Trump (played by Lloyd Ahlquist). As the battle rages on and both candidates show more and more of their true selves, History Repeats when Abraham Lincoln (played by Peter Shukoff) decides he can no longer remain silent.

TROPES

  • Absolute Xenophobe: Trump promises to kick Latinos out of the country, tear down mosques, use the rubble to build a wall across the Southern border, and force Mexico to pay for it.
  • Action Girl: HRC raps against Trump without pause.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Trump's spray-tan is bright orange here, and Clinton even compares his complexion to salad dressing.
  • Assist Character: A secret service agent appears to set up some of Hillary's lines.
  • Badass Boast: Clinton claims that while Trump only fires celebrities on The Apprentice, she was firing Bin Laden back in Afghanistan.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Clinton loses it when she brings up about all the women Trump allegedly molested.
    • Honest Abe goes absolutely bananas on Donald Trump for defiling the Republican Party. He doesn't really have a better opinion of Hillary Clinton either, as she is such a poor candidate against whom Trump actually has a decent chance of winning.
  • Blatant Lies: Trump calls Hillary "the mother of ISIS", admits that it isn't actually true, but excuses it by saying "I don't do politeness", meaning he even admits that he has no problem lying if that's what it takes to win. Hell, he starts off his verse by claiming to "respect all females" after Clinton brought up his numerous sexual assault allegations.
  • The Bus Came Back: Trump returns after appearing two seasons prior.
  • Broken Pedestal: The Republican Party as a whole is this to Lincoln for nominating the likes of Donald Trump for the Presidential race.
Lincoln: If this is the best my party gets, then my party should quit!
  • Characterization Marches On: Characterization marched on because history did. When "Trump vs. Scrooge" came out in 2013, Trump was known only as a reality TV host and eccentric rich guy with a huge ego. Three years later, he became President of the United States, inevitably leaving an entirely different historical legacy than anyone in 2013 could possibly have expected of him. The change in the world's perspective of him was reflected in "Trump vs. Clinton", which portrayed him as an entirely different character, to the point of changing his actor from Peter to Lloyd.
  • Curse Cut Short: Trump's verse is interrupted just as he's about to call Barack Obama the N-word.
  • Darker and Edgier: With frank discussion of serious political concerns and real personal flaws in both candidates being brought up, the episode is much darker than its predecessor from the 2012 elections. Hell, it's one of the darkest episodes in the whole series.
  • Delicate and Sickly: The controversy surrounding Clinton's physical health is mocked by Trump, who calls her frail and lacking in stamina.
  • Dirty Old Man: Clinton brings up Trump's numerous sexual assault allegations and history of perverted comments — especially regarding preteens, married women, and his own daughter.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Lincoln puts on a drill sergeant act towards Hillary after she chuckles at his yelling at Trump.
“I'm sorry. Did I say something you found funny? Wipe that creepy-ass smile off your face and beat this dummy!"
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Clinton has a horrified look on her face as Trump is about to say the N-word.
    • Trump's on the receiving end again when Abe Lincoln finds him so appalling that he thinks the Republican Party should quit politics for nominating him.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Trump squints for most of the battle against Hillary.
  • Fan Disservice: Trump's dancing incorporates a disturbing amount of pelvic thrusts and Shaking the Rump.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Not only is this a Darker and Edgier Very Special Episode, but"Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton" has each rapper only getting one long verse, and Trump being interrupted mid-sentence by Abraham Lincoln, who finishes the battle with a verse of his own.
  • Global Ignorance: Clinton complains that Trump couldn't find Iran on a map.
  • Glory Hound: Clinton accuses Trump of only wanting the presidency for the glamor and prestige that comes with it and not caring about the responsibilities of job itself.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Trump comes off as this in his second battle where he promises to "make this country great again" and says that everyone will be "living large" after he is through clamping down on Latinos and Muslims. On the flip-side, he accuses Hillary of being this and calls her "crooked".
  • Hostile Show Takeover: Towards the end of the battle, Abe Lincoln drops in and steals the show.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point:
    • On both sides: Trump asserts that Bill Clinton is "worse than Bill Cosby" in terms of misogyny but this is after Clinton, in her verse, mentioned his "grab them by the pussy" line. Trump is still right that her husband isn't exactly faithful, but Bill's alleged encounters with women were purely consensual while Trump's were not.
    • Similarly, despite Clinton's claims of being "a public servant" and "a woman of the people," Trump points out that she's massively unpopular among the American public. While true, it conveniently leaves out that Trump's own approval ratings were consistently lower than hers.
  • I Like My X Like I Like My Y: Trump gives us a very dark example:
Donald Trump: I'm gonna run these streets like I run my casinos
    More police, and less Latinos!
  • Jerkass: Everything Trump says that is even remotely complimentary is really a backhanded, bigoted insult, to the point he almost drops the N-word before Lincoln interrupts him.
  • Kangaroo Court: Trump threatens to have Clinton imprisoned, presumably on specious charges, once he takes office.
  • Large Ham:
    • This version of Hillary Clinton loud and emotional in her raps. This is in contrast to the real life Hillary, who is often criticized for her lack of emotion and appearing cold.
    • Lincoln's not very subtle either.
“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME WITH THIS BLAH-BLAH-BLAH?”
  • Mock Millionaire: Clinton claims that Trump has been "going bankrupt since the 90s."
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya:
Clinton: First name is Hillary, middle name Rodham, last name is Clinton, and lyrics, I got 'em.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Hillary's a grandmother in real life, fearless, and was firing at Bin Laden.
  • No Indoor Voice: This is the loudest and angriest Lincoln has ever been on the show.
  • Oblivious to Hints: Trump accuses Clinton of refusing to take the hint that the general public just plain doesn't like her all that much.
Donald Trump: What do the American people have to Yankee-Doodle-do
To get it through your fat face that they're just not that into you?
  • Our Presidents Are Different:
    • Hillary is aiming to become the first female President of the United States.
    • Trump, meanwhile, shows all the signs of a President Evil in the making.
    • As President Action, Lincoln interrupts the rap battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to roast them both.
  • Parental Incest: Hillary brings up that the real Trump said his own daughter is so beautiful he would sleep with her if they weren't related; she also points out just how creepy that image is.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Lloyd's attempt at getting the Donald look down has not gone unnoticed.
  • Police State: Trump expresses a desire to see "more police and less Latinos" in the streets.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Donald Trump, and fucking how. He says the American people want a strong male leader and calls her a "bleeding heart vagina", mocks Hillary Clinton for nearly losing to "socialist Jew" Bernie Sanders, promises to kick Latinos out of America and put people to work tearing down mosques, and is on the verge of using the n-word to describe Obama before Abe Lincoln shows up.
  • Precision F-Strike: Lincoln's outrage at Trump about to say the N-word when talking about Obama prompts him to intervene in that battle before Trump can finish the sentence screaming:
    "Are you fucking kidding me!?"
  • President Evil: In this rap battle, Trump talks about the things that he would do if elected and they include: tearing down mosques, making the country "less latino" and running the country like a casino.
  • Rabble Rouser: The rising cheering noise in the background of Trump's verse is a reference to his reputation as someone who incites political unrest.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Lincoln intervenes again to shut down Trump's racist ranting and also chew Hillary out for relying on waiting for Trump's campaign to self-destruct instead of putting up a real fight.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Abraham Lincoln intervenes between Trump and Hillary's rap battle to give one of these to those two.
Lincoln: Are you FUCKING kidding me with this Blah, Blah, Blah?
I've half a mind to feed you both to my oversized
Eagle: CAW! [drops Lincoln between the two candidates]
Lincoln: I've heard more thoughtful discussion up in TMZ
You two got brothers blocking brothers on their Face Book feeds!
    [turns to Trump]
I'm so sick and tired of this ridiculous shit!
If this is the best my party gets, then my party should quit!
[Clinton laughs, Lincoln turns toward her]
Oh, I'm sorry! Did I say something that you found funny?
Wipe that creepy-ass smile off your face and beat this dummy!
    [he turns back to Trump]
And if she does win the White House, be a man and hold the door
Don't get your fans stirred up in some sort of Twitter Civil War!
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Trump is the oldest man to become president in real life, and in his battle with Hillary Clinton, he's a complete Jerkass and a Politically Incorrect Villain who says a lot of racist, sexist, and otherwise socially unacceptable things without a second thought.
  • Shout-Out; while mocking Trump's Global Ignorance regarding Iran, Clinton points to two highlighted countries on a world map a la the "country you think about so little" Running Gag on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
  • Sore Loser: Lincoln advises Trump to be a Graceful Loser and hold the door for Clinton if she wins, a reference to the widespread belief that Trump would not accept the outcome of the 2016 election if he lost.
  • That Russian Squat Dance: Hillary does it in the background when pointing out Trump's Russian connections.
  • Technically a Smile: Lincoln calls Clinton out on her creepy smile.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Lincoln's at his most badass, having no patience for anyone else's nonsense and slapping Trump twice.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Donald Trump is far more sexist, racist and generally unpleasant here than he was in Season 3, following the real Trump's involvement in politics in the 2016 Presidential elections, and the subsequent shift in how he is portrayed because of it.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Donald Trump was flat-out stated to be dead in his rap battle with Scrooge. Meaning that, within the context of the Epic Rap Battles of History universe, either he was brought back somehow or his ghost is running for president. Or his rap against Scrooge took place after his rap against Clinton.
  • Very Special Episode: This battle is about the 2016 Presidential Election, and all the controversies and social issues from said election are brought forth. Naturally, this gives it a more serious tone than any other battle in the series (except maybe "Nice Peter vs EpicLLOYD 2").
  • Villain Has a Point: The legitimate criticisms Trump throws at Hillary, such as Clinton herself not being well-liked by much of the population, hit the mark solidly.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: It's ambiguous. When Abraham Lincoln appears to chastize Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, he slaps Trump, but instead of slapping Clinton, he just slaps Trump again while giving Clinton a Death Glare. Clinton is suitably afraid. Considering he told Clinton to "beat this dummy", this may have been less because she's a woman and more because he just hates Trump more. Then again, Obama garnering some of his sympathy didn't spare him a bitchslap...
