Family, I'm unwell; think you can handle adding tropes to this page like I do?
Cricket's Shoes

Cricket has caught a fever and his family tries to do the things he was supposed to.

"Cricket's Shoes" contains examples of:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: "They've gone mad with meat fever!"
  • And This Is for...: Just before entering the dog park with meat, Bill says, "This is for Cricket Green!"
  • Artistic License: Even though a sick Cricket sneezed at Bill and wore meat, Bill does not get sick from Cricket's sneeze and the meat that touched Cricket's skin. In real life, germs, flus, viruses, and different types of illness can spread.
  • The Bet: Cricket was dared by some kids to run through the dog park while wearing meat. Bill at first thinks the kids put him up to it, but it turns out Cricket made the dare himself without prompting.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the Greens and Remy get surrounded by vicious dogs, Phoenix comes out of nowhere and tells them to leave.
  • Big "NO!": Heard by the 200-pound dog's owner as it chases after Bill.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Cricket's duties are working at the coffee shop, taking Remy to the trampoline park, and... running through the dog park while wearing meat.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: When Tilly is forsaking Employee of the Month for Gloria's sake:
    Tilly: Bingo-bingo-bango! I don't give a dango!
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Early on, Cricket defends the family's dog's position as a protector. The dog ends up protecting them from other dogs.
  • Continuity Nod: As of this episode, Gloria has won Employee of the Month for three months straight since Cricket joined, placing this episode three months after Cricket started working at Big Coffee in "Critterball Crisis".
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!:
Bill: Help me on this, son. Why is this so dang important to you?
  • Green Around the Gills: Cricket's skin turns pale green when sick. It also literally fits his surname "Green".
  • In Another Man's Shoes: By doing his daily duties, the other Greens learn what Cricket has to go through each day.
  • Noodle Incident: It is mentioned Cricket shared his popsicle with Phoenix which resulted in him getting sick.
  • Remember the New Guy?: This episode marks the debut of Weezie, though it wasn't explained how he joined Kiki and Benny's group.
  • Shout-Out: Gramma enters a bathroom with a sign reading Ladies (and the Tramp).
  • Sick Episode: Cricket is sick and has to stay in bed, so he passes his duties to his family.
  • A Taste of Defeat: Gloria had won Employee of the Month twice in a row and ends up losing to Tilly. Tilly later does something to disqualify herself out of pity.
  • This Is My Human: When Phoenix tells the vicious dogs to leave Remy and the Greens alone, she describes the Greens as her servants.
  • Visual Pun: When Cricket is sick, his skin turns green; he is now literally Cricket Green.
  • Working Through the Cold: When Bill refuses to do the dog run, Cricket shows up to do it despite his cold. But being too sick to even do it properly, Bill decides to take over for his sake.

At least it's not as worse as World War II.
Feud Fight

To get back at the Greens, Chip Whistler opens a stand at Farmer's Market, leading to an all-out battle.

"Feud Fight" contains examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: Griffin McElroy voices the Pepper Merchant, and his voice is heavily based on Garfield the Deals Warlock.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: The Pepper Merchant that sells ghost peppers to Gramma has a green topknot and long red beard that makes his head look like a jalapeño pepper.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Tilly wears a bedsheet to make it seem Chip's stand is haunted. Chip sees through her Paper-Thin Disguise but his customers don't even after he points out it doesn't even have eye holes.
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: The ghost peppers Gramma buys for her chili. They are hot enough to melt Chip's supposedly indestructible tooth filling.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set at the Farmer's Market.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Sultan Peppers Gramma buys are what lead to defeating Chip afterwards, as him stealing and wolfing all of them down are what melt the composite resin in his teeth, causing him to run away in haste.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Chip's own employees call him out on attacking an unarmed Cricket as he's trying to negotiate a truce.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Chip thinks Cricket's proposed truce was done with the purpose of luring him into attacking in order to make him look bad. Nobody was happy about this.
  • Evil Is Petty: Chip keeps throwing tomatoes at Cricket even when the latter disarms himself to propose a truce. Later on, he tries to get even with the Greens by taking a bite of each tomato at their stand so they can't sell them.
  • Food Fight: The episode climaxes in a huge one that completely wrecks the farmers market.
  • How We Got Here: The episode begins with the tomato war already going on, then it flashes back to the actual start of the episode to show what led up to such.
  • The Immune: The sultan pepper has no effect on Gramma.
  • In Medias Res: The episode starts with Cricket standing on a tomato pile and then we are shown how it happened.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Chip's petty revenge against Cricket costs him his customers and his employees and his plan to sabotage the Greens' stand by taking a bite of every food there backfires horribly when he eats Gramma's peppers and they melt his tooth filling.
  • Last-Second Chance: Cricket gives one to Chip, convincing him to call it even and make a Heel–Face Turn, but he sees this as a forfeit and attacks him.
  • Never My Fault: Chip still blames the Greens for chipping his tooth with their fake fruit, when really it was his own fault for chipping it in the first place because he disobeyed Cricket's warning. Chip later blames Cricket for making him look bad in spite of it being his own fault for pelting Cricket with tomatoes.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Cricket's feud with Chip eventually results in all the stands at the market destroyed, including his own.
  • Oh, Crap!: Cricket when he realizes the fight only destroyed the Farmer's Market rather than save it, followed by an even bigger one when Chip fails to see the meaning of his truce.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Chip is more focused on hurting Cricket than on keeping a good image.
  • Sequel Hook: After Chip's tooth filling is burnt by the Sultan Pepper and he runs off, Tilly sees this as he's going to revenge them again soon, and Cricket adds that when that time comes, they'll be ready for it.
  • Shamed by a Mob: Seeing Chip actually "decimate" the innocent Cricket with tomatoes (when he tried to call a truce, nonetheless) is enough for everyone at the market, including most Wholesome Foods workers, to call him out for it, quit their job, and never come to the store again.
  • Slasher Smile: Chip gives one to Cricket as he sees him calling a truce as a forfeit, just before attacking him.
  • Special Guest: Griffin McElroy as the pepper merchant.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • "I shall defend the booth with my life if I have to! I'll strike down any foes who dare cross our path!" (Cue Chip Whistler appearing)
    • "I am the Tomato-nator, the Red Destroyer, and I!...WILL!...NOT!...STOP!!!" Cue Tilly saying, "Cricket, stop!"
  • Unaffected by Spice: The Sultan Pepper can burn up anyone's mouth...except Gramma's.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Chip. It makes his employees and his potential customers so disgusted they turn on him.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Chip believes Cricket calling a truce with him is just so he can forfeit the fight and lure him into attacking him for the sake of making him look bad. No one was happy to witness this.
