Rated CricketDuring a visit to the movie theater, Cricket attempts to sneak into an adult movie believing he's old enough to handle what he thinks it's about. Meanwhile, Tilly thinks she's transported to an alternate dimension when she puts on 3D glasses, Bill helps the man at the snack bar make the perfect popcorn, and Gramma tries to save the best seats in the theater.
"Rated Cricket" contains examples of:
- Bait-and-Switch: When Cricket sneaks into the projector room, he hears the guard yell, "Aha! Found you!" causing him to wince, but then it's revealed she caught Tilly instead, who came out of nowhere to take the blame for sneaking in due to her delusions, allowing Cricket to sneak into Kiss of Death.
- Big Damn Heroes: Tilly does this twice. First, she comes out of nowhere in the projector room to take Cricket's place being taken out by the guard, so he can sneak into Kiss of Death. Second, she sprays a group of angry theatergoers to save Bill from getting his popcorn stolen.
- Big "NO!": By Cricket when he witnesses the woman and skeleton kiss in Kiss of Death.
- Bottle Episode: The episode is set only at the movie theater.
- Covers Always Lie: An In-Universe example. Cricket only sees the poster for Kiss of Death, thinking it's going to be a slash thriller, but it's when he actually sees the flick that he realizes it isn't anything he thought it was.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: This is by far the most random Tilly has been for her character, as she is lulled into an alternate universe delusion by the 3D glasses and doesn't even understand what they really do. In later episodes, she's more competent and responsible for herself.
- Eat the Camera: Cricket does it when he cannot take any more romance in the theater.
- Fainting: The snack vendor does this after tasting Bill's popcorn.
- Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: Cricket attempted to see the PG-13 Kiss of Death. He is disturbed, not by the violence and gore he was expecting, but by all the kissing, both onscreen and in the theater.
- Literal-Minded: Tilly takes the 3D glasses' slogan "See a whole new dimension" way too literally, and thinks she's seeing an Alternate Universe when she puts them on.
- Movie-Theater Episode: The episode revolves around the Greens visiting a movie theater where Cricket tries to watch a PG-13 film against Bill's wishes.
- Paranormal Romance: Kiss of Death turns out to actually be a romance film about a human woman dating a skeletal Grim Reaper.
- Quality over Quantity: Parodied: Bill takes offense to the theater's awful popcorn, and so holds up the line to make some himself. The clerk agrees to follow Bill's methods, which infuriates the crowd because that means it'll take an hour to get a bucket of popcorn.
- Shout-Out: The list of featured films includes titles like Henry Cauldron and My Big Fat Funeral.
- Spoof Aesop: You can't possibly judge what a movie is about by just looking at the poster.
- Taking the Heat: Tilly appears out of nowhere to take the blame for Cricket sneaking into the projector room due to her delusions from the 3D glasses, allowing him to sneak into Kiss of Death undetected.
- Tears of Remorse: Cricket has them briefly as he tries to get into Kiss of Death.
- Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Gramma pulls one on a random family so she can take their spots in the theater.
Share B&B: Expectations vs reality.
Homeshare HoedownCricket convinces the Greens to reinvent their house as a homeshare suite to make money, but soon regrets his idea when he has to attain to whatever his visitors want.
"Homeshare Hoedown" contains examples of:
- All for Nothing: Even though the tourists did pay before leaving the Greens' house, Cricket does not earn the money; it goes to Gloria instead due to the appointment being set up on her phone under her account name.
- Big "YES!": Gloria in the last scene when the money the Greens earned end up going to her, because Cricket set it up on her phone.
- Bottle Episode: The episode is generally set around Elkins street, particularly in and around the Green house with two scenes of Big Coffee, and a scene in Gloria's apartment in the end.
- Brick Joke: Cricket invites the visitors using Gloria's phone. When Gramma asks if he'll be getting paid after they leave, he realizes Gloria will be the one getting the money. Sure enough, Gloria is excited she got a hundred dollars for something she didn't even do.
- Comically Missing the Point: At the beginning, Cricket mistakes Share B&B as literally "sharing bees".
- Didn't Think This Through: Cricket learns the hard way that just allowing guests to stay overnight won't immediately let money pour in; he and his family have to contribute to the job and provide every need and want for the visitors, no matter how much they ask for. Lampshaded by Bill earlier when he tried to warn Cricket about how difficult the job will be, but he didn't listen.
- Don't Explain the Joke: When Bill is trying to warn Cricket that Share B&B is not going to be easy, he says "Money never just rolls in" while holding up a bread roll. Nobody laughs, and Gramma boos him. Later on, Cricket says, "It'll be a piece of cake" while holding up a slice of cake; Tilly and Gramma laugh, but only Bill is not enthused.
- Downer Ending: Played for Laughs. The episode ends with the tourists declaring the Greens' country life not authentic anymore and leaving, and Cricket losing all the money he earned to Gloria due to having the appointment set up on her phone.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: This is the first appearance of the interior of Gloria's apartment, and two major differences set it apart from its later appearances:
- Gloria is shown to keep a budgie; in all later episodes, it is a larger parakeet.
- The area around Gloria's armchair is vastly different than its appearance in "Coffee Quest" and "Elevator Action", specifically it's next to a window and outlet instead of just a solid wall. And the decor around it is different.
- Foreshadowing:
- Cricket saying Gloria set up a Share B&B appointment for him foreshadows who will really be getting the money.
- In addition, Gloria seems slightly irked when Cricket refers to her as a city person, foreshadowing she's not from Big City as revealed in "Coffee Quest".
- Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Bill tells Cricket he's "So dang proud of him" when the tourists switch rooms.
- Roundabout Shot: Cricket gets one as he dances with Marjorie the sheep during the hoedown scene.
- Snipe Hunt: Cricket stages a "possum hunt" to get the tourists to leave them along, by having them crawl under the house and board them in. They find their way into the kids' room instead.
- So Proud of You: Twice from Bill to Cricket for thinking he's contributing to the job and letting the tourists stay in the kids' room, and one from Gloria to the kids for wanting to become "cultured urban sophisticates".
- Sudden Downer Ending: The visitors end up leaving anyway because of the hoedown, and the Greens don't get the money earned because Cricket set it up on Gloria's phone, leaving her to get the money by default.
- Wanting Is Better Than Having: Cricket discovers too late that money never immediately rolls in and he has to attain to everything Val and Justin want. Bill tried to warn Cricket earlier, but he didn't listen.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Bill feels this way toward Cricket for intentionally trying to get Val and Justin to leave.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Despite the tourists leaving, they still send the money paid, but because the appointment was set up on Gloria's phone, Cricket does not win the money he wanted, but Gloria does.
- You Were Trying Too Hard: The visiting couple are ridiculously impressed by every aspect of the Greens' regular farm life. When the Greens play up their country nature to make up for Cricket's attempt to drive them away, the guests immediately see through it and leave in disgust.
