News flash! Instead of that boring watermelon in the background, we found a dancing little boy!
Breaking News

Bill grows a big watermelon and, since there's no big watermelon contest, Cricket calls the local news but ends up getting all the attention.

"Breaking News" contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Bill grows a gigantic watermelon for the county fair...but discovers too late from Remy that Big City doesn't host county fairs.
  • And This Is for...: Cricket says "This one's for the record book," prior to filming his egg juggling video.
  • Attention Whore: Cricket. In trying to get Bill's watermelon on the air, he ends up stealing all the attention.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Bill's reaction when the watermelon falls down and splatters gives the impression that he's upset over it but he turns out to be glad it appeared on TV.
  • Big "NO!": Cricket shouts this in response to the news crew after snapping out of his hallucination and realizing the watermelon is what deserves attention.
  • Black Comedy: Gramma watching a newscast called "Can Paper Kill?", especially when the paper falls on the logo and spews out blood.
Gramma: If it can, I'll be ready... [gets out scissors and paper]
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!:
Remy: Mr. Green, that's a great dream! And you'll be able to dream it forever, because there is no county fair in Big City!
    Bill: ...What?
Remy: I said, there is no county fair in Big Cit...y...OH GOSH, YOU DIDN'T KNOW! I'm so sorry, I thought everyone knew that!
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: When trying to help his nervous father, Cricket dances and does goofy things to get attention for the watermelon. Unfortunately, this results in Cricket himself becoming the center of attention.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: After he accidentally knocks Bill's watermelon out of the top of the Channel 11 News building, Cricket slowly turns to the TV cameras with a shocked, pained smile.
  • Performance Anxiety: Bill isn't quite used to being on TV, as shown by the long, drawn-out tone of his words along with a Broken Smile when Maria interviews him, prompting Cricket to take action.
  • Shout-Out: The ending after the watermelon fell off the building is similar to Mike Wasowski's reaction being on TV.
Bill: I can't believe it... (excited) ...my watermelon was on TV!
  • Special Guest: Raven-Symoné as Maria Media.
  • Spit Take: Tilly does this when Cricket appears as part of the news report and not the watermelon.
  • Wingding Eyes: Seen on Cricket whenever the camera gets to his head.
  • Worst News Judgement Ever: The news crew covering Bill's watermelon say there's nothing else happening. At that moment, a car speeds by chased by police, the driver yelling "I just robbed a bank!" The crew ignore it completely.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: In the end, Cricket manages to get everyone in Big City to look at the watermelon on TV and praise Bill...then he accidentally makes it fall out the window and hit the road, destroying it. However, Bill was more happy that his giant watermelon got to appear on TV.

The Bully takes on a whole new meaning.
Cyberbullies

Cricket helps his friends stands up to a group of cyberbullies who target them in retaliation.

"Cyberbullies" contains examples of:

  • The Bet: Cricket's final wager with the Cyber Knights is this: if he wins, they leave him and his friends alone, but if they win, he'll have to bow down to them.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Cricket's friends joining him in during the battle against the Cyber Knights, having realized he was right all along and work together to help him defeat them.
  • Big "NEVER!": When Cricket is close to losing to the Cyber Knights, he screams "NEVER!" in response to bow down to them.
  • Big "NO!": By the lead Cyber Knight when her drone gets destroyed.
  • The Bully: The Cyber Knights are a video game example of this.
  • Cyberbullying: the episode focuses on Cricket, Tilly and their friends getting harassed by a trio of online bullies known as the Cyber Knights, who repeatedly force the kids to bow down to them. Cricket helps the others learn to stand up for themselves and not run away for the rest of their lives so they can take the bullies down.
  • Determinator: Cricket is the only one of the group who's not afraid to face the Cyber Knights and stand up to them. He absolutely refuses to bow down to them and won't stop until he defeats them, no matter how many times they torment his friends.
  • Driven to Suicide: Implied. Remy arrives with Kiki and tells Cricket he found her laying in the middle of the road with her adding that she did not have the will to live.
  • The Immune: Cricket and Tilly don't have any electronic devices (smartphone, computer, tablet, video game station, etc.), and thus are the only ones the Cyber Knights are unable to hack. So the Cyber Knights decide to target their friends' electronics instead.
  • Kneel Before Zod: When Cricket, Tilly, Remy, Bennee, Kiki, and Weezie are playing video games, the Cyber Knights take the space coins from Cricket's squad. When Cricket stands up to the Cyber Knights, they demand that he bows down before them, and Cricket challenges their drone minicopters to a duel with his kite, and his friends come at the last minute, using their kites to bring down the drone mini-copters one by one.
  • Near-Villain Victory: The Cyber Knights are close to victory, and when Cricket still refuses to bow down to them, the leader is about to exact an ultimate attack, but then Cricket's friends arrive to join him and they finally defeat the bullies as a team.
  • Nerdy Bully: The Cyber Knights.
  • Overly Long Gag: Cricket repeatedly screaming Remy's name to beg him to come back when he gives up on him.
  • Revenge by Proxy: When the cyberbullies decide to exact revenge against Cricket because he refuses to follow their orders, they realize he has no electronic devices for them to hack so they go after his friends.
  • Rock Beats Laser: Cricket and his friends beat the Cyber Knights’ state-of-the-art battle drones with ordinary paper kites.
  • Rule of Three: The cyberbullies are a group of 3.
  • Shout-Out: Kiki mentions her Bintendo Twist.
  • Threat Backfire: The Cyber Knights’ usual intimidation tactics — hacking their victims’ online accounts — don’t work on Cricket because he doesn’t own any electronic devices. So they decide to go after Cricket's friends instead.
  • Too Important to Walk: The Cyber Knights move around on hover boards. When the power runs out on them, they complain about having to walk, and do so awkwardly.
  • Very Special Episode: About bullying and what to do to prevent it.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: The Cyber Knights angrily leave the park upon being defeated, but the batteries in the hoverboards die so they have to leave on foot, which they aren't so happy about.
  • Voice of the Legion: The Cyber Knights speak with this filter through their drones and video game avatars.
