Basic Trope: A better world is worth any sacrifice.
- Straight: Dr. Omnium, a world-renowned, well-respected Renaissance man, is a vocal proponent of drastic action when it comes to improving the state of the world, even if it means curtailing certain liberties.
- Exaggerated: As a man who will sacrifice anything to achieve his goals, Omnium seeks to improve daily life by any means necessary, up to and including making a bargain with the Devil himself.
- Downplayed: Despite his ideals, Omnium tries not to cross moral lines as much as possible while enacting his proposals.
- While he outright says that "utopia" is highly unrealistic and idealist bullshit, Omnium genuinely wants to improve the lives of the less fortunate in the world in the most humanly achievable way possible, even if he has to resort to more violent tactics to do so.
- Justified:
- In a World… binded by corruption, selfishness and ignorance on all sides, Omnium's worldview holds plenty of appeal.
- Seeing himself as the savior of a benighted world makes the most egregious atrocities in the name of progress easy for Omnium to accept.
- Inverted:
- Omnium has no illusions about human perfectability, and is only interested in creating a world where he has total control.
- Omnium wants a society where he can maximize human suffering and pain for the hell of it.
- Subverted: Omnium is perfectly alright with the potential cost of his plans, until he sees the impact in person. After that, he uses it as a reminder of what happens when all caution is thrown to the wind, and he does his best to mitigate the damage already done while continuing to strive for improvement.
- Parodied: Omnium's plans boil down to "blow everything up and start over".
- Zig Zagged: Initial efforts by Omnium to help the world are stymied once he fully recognizes the scope of the problem. After several years of trying and failing to expand his definition of "save the world", he gives up in despair, only to be reinvigorated once things get bad enough for the world to appreciate his kind of vision, and from then on, single-mindedly pursues utopia at any cost.
- Averted: Omnium is content to improve the world in small but tangible ways, an easier and more workable alternative to big, grandiose plans for reorganization.
- Enforced: It's a classic trope in case the writers have exhausted every other reason for world domination.
- Lampshaded: Omnium is considered a fringe scientist for his radical views, and the plans has for the world are considered "outlandish", to say the least.
- Invoked: The world is teetering on the edge of disaster. When the only alternative is extinction, Omnium chooses to step in and guide humanity into tomorrow with a firm hand.
- Defied: Omnium recognizes there are lines that can't be crossed in the effort to build a better world, and stays as far from them as humanly possible.
- Exploited: The plans Omnium has for the world primarily benefit him and his interests rather than those of society as a whole, making his initiatives less of a humanitarian effort and more of a massive ego trip.
- Discussed: The cynical Dr. Imperius takes Omnium to task about the number of human traits he would have to violate to make his precious perfect society work.
- Conversed: In a worldwide televised broadcast, Omnium lays his cards on the table as to why the world needs his ideas implemented, accounting for all possible objections in a calm and rational manner.
- Implied: Concepts of an earthly Utopia, Transhumanism and The Singularity figure heavily into Omnium's designs.
- Deconstructed:
- Despite starting off with the best of intentions, Omnium loses his way as he compromises more and more with nefarious forces who only seek to use his idealism for their own purposes. His utopian proposals slowly mutate into initiatives to secure more money and power for himself, until eventually he has no intentions of making a better world for anyone.
- The radical side of Omnium's worldview only comes to the fore after years of being shunted aside by the powers-that-be, resulting in a situation where extreme measures are the only possible option.
- It was never about Utopia. It was always about power and his own ego. All Omnium wanted was to be at the top of the food chain and force his beliefs on everyone, regardless if they really were for the greater good or not.
- Omnium has some truly messed up ideas on justice and utopia from the get go. Some of his ideas for utopia include murdering people for not conforming to what is expected of them, killing everyone not of his race, and being able to drink directly out of the milk carton without punishment.
- Reconstructed: Omnium recognizes his actions for creating a better world are monstrous, and understands that even if his efforts succeed, he will never be rewarded or have a chance to enjoy them because of it. Having mentally and emotionally accepted these costs, he presses forward with his plans undaunted.
