Marathon Running / Teen Titans Go!

Go To

One major way that the US feed of Cartoon Network has shown their obsession for Teen Titans Go! is by airing episodes or unannounced marathons to compete with other nationwide channels, usually around the holidays. Since there have been many, many instances where this happened, it has its own section. The marathons of this type, in chronological order, have included:

US Feed:

  • As a result of scheduling, from 2015 to mid 2018, the show would often be played in what could qualify as marathons (similar to how Nickelodeon aired SpongeBob SquarePants before 2016). Some blocks like "Friday Party" and "NEW NEW NEW NEW" would be preceded with as much as nine hours of Teen Titans Go!.
  • The show's very first marathon, the "Go Marathon", could be considered as this type of marathon. It showed then-recent episodes of the show, as well as a few episodes of Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spin-Jitsu, to compete against that year's Super Bowl.
  • There was also an unannounced five-hour marathon on August 22, 2015 despite the schedule listing other shows like Steven Universe and The Amazing World of Gumball. This practice also tends to happen a lot on weekends. September 26th saw Teen Titans Go! aired for 8 and a half hours straight, with 2 and a half hours of reruns before and after said marathon.
  • Sometimes, they'll do TTG marathons consisting of repeated airings of single episodes:
    • On one day in July 2015, "Puppets, Whaaaat?" aired for six hours in a row.
    • On January 21, 2016, nothing but "Serious Business" and "Caramel Apples" aired from 8AM to 12PM.
    • On June 27, 2016, four airings of "Caged Tiger" and "Hose Water" made up the first two hours of the Cartoon Network schedule.
    • On January 14, 2017, the first part of "Two Parter" played four times in a row, with the second part being nowhere to be found on the schedule that day.
    • On April 1, 2017, nothing but "Batman vs. Teen Titans: Dark Injustice" played the entire morning.
    • On April 21, 2018, "Think About Your Future" played four times in a row.
    • On August 22, 2018, "Caramel Apples" played twice in a row.
    • On December 31, 2018, the only Teen Titans Go! episodes to air all day were the three Beast Boy birthday episodes and "More of the Same", repeating three times that day as the only four TTG episodes aired (not counting the Island Adventures special). This kicked off a tradition for the holiday episodes of the show airing multiple times on the holiday they're about starting in 2019 (for example, "Hot Salad Water" playing four times on July 4, 2019, and "How 'Bout Some Effort", "The Power of Shrimps" and "BBRAE" playing three times each on Valentine's Day 2019).
    • On the week of Memorial Day 2019, "Girls' Night Out" and "You're Fired" played every day.
  • On the first day of Rosh Hashanah in 2015, nothing but Teen Titans Go! aired the whole day, and only two other shows aired throughout the festivities.
  • From October 2, 2015 to October 4, 2015, the show had an unannounced 39-hour marathon.
  • Ever since 2015, Cartoon Network will hold a marathon on the first Saturday of December to celebrate Beast Boy's birthday with episodes all based around Beast Boy, usually done to compete with CBS' annual Saturday Christmas special airing note  and the annual Power Rangers Christmas Episode on Nickelodeon.
  • They will also tend to run marathons to entertain kids stuck inside the house due to major blizzards, since the show usually gets many on-demand viewings during them. One such instance of this, which happened during a nor'easter in late March, became a meme because the idea was insane, considering that some areas struck by said snowstorm may not have had power.
  • From 2015 to 2017, CN played marathons of Teen Titans Go! whenever a new episode of any show has a premiere on a day that's not a Thursday. Usually when they do this, Teen Titans Go! isn't the show airing a new episode.
  • On February 15, 2016, nothing but the show and Gumball aired to premiere two new episodes of the former and the half-hour special, "The Origins", for the latter, as well as to compete with Presidents' Day marathons on other channels, most notably the Gravity Falls marathon on Disney XD, which led up to its Grand Finale.
  • On July 16, 2016, Cartoon Network played a surprise five-hour marathon of the show, followed by a three-hour Steven Universe marathon.
  • A surprising occasion when a marathon for the show was not held to hype up an anticipated episode was during the week Island Adventures premiered. The channel ran a schedule that was pretty close to its normal schedule at the time, except with some of the slots for Baby Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry replaced by movies such as Shrek, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (a TV movie that hadn't been seen on Cartoon Network for years) and Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz, as well as the weekend Top 5 block being shortened so that they could air Island Adventures.
    • This treatment happened again during Teen Titans Go's round of airing new episodes for the "Best Summer Ever!" promotion in 2018, despite the day the episodes premiered being the same day The Loud House special "Tripped!" and the revival of Double Dare made their premieres on rival channel Nickelodeon. That week's schedule was pretty much the same as the schedule used for the other "Best Summer Ever!" premieres.
  • On September 17, 2016, Cartoon Network aired a nearly all-day marathon of the show so that Nickelodeon viewers whose programming was interrupted by the Worldwide Day of Play would have something to watch until the channel came back on.
  • Since November 2016, the show will air an all-weekend long marathon on Thanksgiving to celebrate a new episode and counterprogram rival network Nickelodeon's newest premiere that weekend note . Since 2018, the practice has been dropped, with the annual Thanksgiving marathon happening earlier in the week and being much shorter, with 2019's marathon taking the place of another annual marathon tradition.
  • The channel went through a brief phase where marathons of the show were played whenever The Voice aired its season premiere or finale from 2016-2018.
  • From December 16-17th of 2016, a marathon of the show called the Huge Holiday Weekend was run to compete with Nickelodeon's premiere of the movie Surf's Up.
  • During the 2017 Golden Globes, they ran an all-day marathon which concluded with the Cartoon Network premiere of The LEGO Movie.
  • On Martin Luther King Day 2017, a marathon of Cyborg-centric episodes was aired for half of the day, and was followed by airings of Shrek, Rio and Teen Titans Go!'s TV Movie, Island Adventures, and the final four episodes of Regular Show. This was also done to compete with the return of the PBS Kids 24/7 channel nationwide (which coincided with the premiere of the Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood episode "Daniel and O's Road Trip; Daniel's Puppet Plan") and the premiere of Bunsen Is a Beast on Nickelodeon.
  • On Feburary 20, 2017, which was the day the 200th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered, the schedule for the day was basically the one for the Friday Party block, but with multiple shows having new episodes, including TTG.
  • CN's schedules on April 15 and 16, 2017 were literally nothing but TTG from 6AM to 8PM, as both a celebration of Easter and to compete with various things on other networks, including the season premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, a Bee Gees special and the Encore premiere of Inside Out.
  • Another unannounced marathon was held on April 30, 2017 to compete with the Radio Disney Music Awards. This was seemingly a last-minute decision on CN's part, as their schedule listed several movies in the slot, rather than this show.
  • Another all-day marathon was held on May 29, 2017 that was another re-hash of the Friday Party block (with Teen Titans Go!, Ben 10 and Steven Universe being the shows airing new episodes) to celebrate Memorial Day. The weird part about this was that only cable boxes listed the marathon and not online websites, which instead listed only two hours of TTG in the morning, episodes of Ben 10, Tom and Jerry Tales and Steven Universe, as well as some movies.
  • Another two-day marathon, which only stopped to show new episodes of other shows, was shown from July 21st through July 22nd to compete with the premiere of Descendants 2 across all Disney-owned networks except for Disney Junior and to celebrate Comic Con in Los Angeles.
  • The second largest Teen Titans Go! marathon in the show's history (see below for the largest) was held from July 31, 2017 to August 6, 2017, to promote the much-hyped premiere of OK KO! Let's Be Heroes and the second TV movie, "The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Even Though it Was the Day". Taking it even further than previous marathons, the network aired 300 episodes of a then 183-episode cartoonnote  in the span of one week. Unlike other previous TTG marathons, this one did not air on a holiday or other special day, but it does continue the network's new tradition of airing TTG marathons before new episodes of other shows. Surprisingly enough, unlike most marathons that were held to promote new episodes of the show, this one worked to increase the ratings for the events it was being held for, as the final part of the movie was the top scripted show on cable the day it aired, beating out a new episode of Raven's Home (no relation to this show's Raven) that aired the same night.
  • During the week of August 7th, 2017, reruns were once again dialed back. It still aired 179 episodes that week.
  • On August 19, 2017, an all day marathon aired to promote the very first re-run of The Night Begins To Shine and the return of Teen Titans to the weekend line-up.
  • Two different marathons of this type were held during the first week of September 2017: One on September 4, 2017 to celebrate Labor Day and to compete with Nickelodeon's premieres of Shrek Forever After and I Am Frankie and a Toy Story marathon on Disney XD, while the second, held just four days later, was to compete with the final broadcast day of Sprout.
  • Beginning September 15, 2017, another three-day marathon of the show note  was held to hype up the "Classic Titans" episode, the "Power of Four" Powerpuff Girls special, and the first airing of "Serious Business" since November 2016, as well as to compete with the Primetime Emmys, where several of the channel's shows were nominated.
  • On October 9th, 2017, a marathon was held with nothing but the show, OK K.O.! and reruns of Teen Titans aired to celebrate Columbus Day and K.O.'s crossover with Captain Planet and the Planeteers. This was in honor of National Kick Butt Day, which occurs on the second Monday of October. All 3 shows happened to star superheroes.
  • Another all-day marathon, which was followed by new episodes of CN's current shows, was held on November 17, 2017 to celebrate the opening of the Justice League film, which starred the Cyborg character.
  • There were a lot of promos for Teen Titans Go's 200th episode, which aired during the Thanksgiving week of 2017. A screen bug was even added next to the channel's logo to promote it. The show had a five-day marathon from November 22-26, 2017 to celebrate this episode and to compete with two long-awaited children's specials airing during that period: Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie and Trolls Holiday.
  • The show had yet another super-marathon (this time with all the episodes of the show up to that point) for the entirety of Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve 2017 to not only celebrate the holidays in that time frame, but to compete with other holiday and non-holiday programming on other channels such as the network television premieres of Minions and the theatrical cut of Hotel Transylvania 2note  on FX and a marathon of The Loud House on Nickelodeon. 99.5% of the week was devoted to Teen Titans Go!, with the only interruption being a single half-hour of "new" (actually episodes that had already premiered on the app a month prior) Steven Universe episodes on December 29th. Of course, the schedule returned to normal afterwards on January 1st. Fun fact: the chart version of the schedule actually became a meme because of its excessiveness.
  • Cartoon Network had a four-day TTG marathon to premiere the "Opposite Titans" episode on President's Day 2018. For the same episode, Cartoon Network also started a site where fans voted for the versions of the characters they wanted to see in the episode.
  • On March 30, 2018, there was a two-day marathon to premiere the special "Flashback", and the series Craig of the Creek. The marathon treatment of the show was surprisingly averted on Easter Day itself.
  • On April 6th, 2018, a marathon of the show aired to promote new episodes of Ben 10 (2016) and Craig of the Creek, and a special half-hour long episode of OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes. It also, either intentionally or not, overlapped with yet another snowstorm in the midwestern United States.
  • There was an all-day marathon of the show on May 28, 2018 to celebrate Memorial Day, to premiere a new episode and to compete with Nickelodeon's premiere of the PAW Patrol special "Best Robo Rescues!" and a behind-the-scenes special about The Thundermans. Originally, Cartoon Network planned to do a Teen Titans Go! marathon for the whole Memorial Day weekend, and yet the channel chose not to. note
  • An all-weekend marathon (which only stopped to show Kung Fu Panda 2 and hour-long Unikitty! blocks) was held on the weekend the movie came out to promote the film.
  • On October 26, 2018, Cartoon Network aired a four-hour marathon of the show's various specials to hype up an hour-and-a-half long Ben 10 special and to promote the DVD release of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. The same thing happened on November 30th, but to promote a Recut of the sequel to "Justice League's Next Top Idol Star" that uses a new ending and to compete with the Nickelodeon premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
  • A nearly all-day marathon of the show was held on November 12, 2018 to celebrate Veterans Day and to compete with The Loud House's Thanksgiving special.
  • Another nearly all-day marathon was held on November 21, 2018 to premiere a new episode and to compete with a Kenan & Kel-themed episode of Double Dare and a PAW Patrol Thanksgiving special.
  • A three-hour marathon was held on March 8, 2019 to hype up the hour long series premiere of DC Super Hero Girls and the premiere of Teen Titans Go! To the Movies on HBO the next day and to compete with the Nickelodeon movie Lucky.
  • A five-hour marathon of the show, alongside the first 8 episodes of Infinity Train aired on August 9, 2019 as a lead in to the final episodes of the latter show’s first season and to compete with the final episode of Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon and Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling's premiere on Netflix.
  • An eight-hour marathon of the show aired on September 6, 2019 as a lead-in to the final episodes of OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes and to compete with new episodes of Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? and the Freeform premiere of The Pacifier.
  • A six-hour marathon of the show aired on September 20, 2019 as a lead in to an encore of the 6th Titan arc, to promote clips from Teen Titans Go! vs Teen Titans being released online that day and to compete with a new episode of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and the Freeform premiere of the sing-along version of The Princess and the Frog.
  • Another six-hour marathon happened on October 4, 2019 to premiere a new block of episodes ("Cartoon Feud", "Curse Of The Booty Scooty", "Collect Them All" and "Butt Atoms") and to compete with the premiere of the John Cena series The Substitute, as well as the premiere of new Halloween-themed episodes of PAW Patrol and Abby Hatcher, on Nickelodeon.
  • A six-hour marathon was held on October 14, 2019 to lead into TV Knight 5 and the premiere of The LEGO Batman Movie, as well as to compete with The Loud House's "Kings Of The Con" and the series premiere of The Casagrandes.
  • A three-day marathon of mostly Beast Boy-centric episodes (with the third day consisting of airings of all of the specials for the show) called the "Beast Boy Party", note  aired from November 25-27, 2019, to hype up the show's fourth hour-long special, "Beast Boy: That's What's Up", that was also air commercial free, making it the first Cartoon Network show to air this way since Level Up. It was also held to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday and to compete with two new holiday specials on Netflix: Super Monsters Save Christmas and True And The Rainbow Kingdom: Winter Wishes, as well as a new episode of PAW Patrol on Nickelodeon and the premiere of Batman vs. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nicktoons. The marathon only stopped for an airing of Steven Universe: The Movie at the tail end of the final day. Like the Night Begins To Shine marathon, some episodes were repeated.
  • On January 2, 2020, a four-hour marathon of holiday episodes ran to compete with a SpongeBob SquarePants marathon showcasing trivia about the show.
  • On January 20th, 2020, a 10-hour marathon of the show was held to compete with Nickelodeon's premieres of the series The Adventures of Paddington, the PAW Patrol special Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups Vs. • A three-day marathon of this show and the original Teen Titans (2003), with the former airing every even hour and the latter airing every odd hour, was held on President's Day Weekend of 2020 to hype up the Cartoon Network premiere of Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans and to compete with premiere of the first Two Shorts PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups, Charged Up episode and two Valentine's Day Episodes of The Loud House on Nickelodeon, as well as the premiere of Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2 on Disney Channel.

  • Surprisingly averted when Night Begins To Shine 2: You're The One aired, with the marathon only occuring for the 4 hours prior to the event (though like the cancelled Memorial Day marathon above, this might have had something to do with the PAW Patrol special that was originally going to air that day being moved 2 weeks earlier after an accidental broadcast in Canada).
    • It was also averted a few weeks later for the Carl Sanpedro mini-series, as Cartoon Network followed a normal weekday schedule. Instead, a mini-marathon, that lasted from 6am-1pm (that included a limited commercial encore airing of the Carl Sanpedro miniseries) aired on the day after the final episode aired, likely to compete with the new Bubble Guppies episode "Too Bright For Movie Night!", which it aired opposite of.

International Feeds:

  • This practice also happens on the UK feed of Cartoon Network as well:
    • On weekends, CN UK will sometimes air seven-hour-long marathons of their shows; they’ve been doing it with Gumball, We Bare Bears, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2017) and this show. If a marathon of the show does air, then TTG will take up more than half of the daytime schedule.
    • From 2018 until 2022, CN UK aired a TTG marathon from 6AM to 9PM on the day of the new year. In 2018, it was the day after CN US' infamous Christmas marathon. For 2023, the schedule is just the channel's normal schedule, so it averts this trope, with the subsequent 2024 marathon only lasting from 9:00am-4:00pm.
    • Starting from the February half-term of 2018, the show has had 8-hour-long marathons every single weekday during most half term holidays, just to celebrate premieres of new episodes of the show. In 2020, this marathon was reduced to only 6-hours, and each day, the episodes focuses on one of the Titans.
  • During Sportlov 2020, note  Cartoon Network's Nordic feed aired 427 episodes of the show (the most it has aired in a single week on any Cartoon Network feed worldwide at the time, beating the infamous Cartoon Network US Christmas 2017 marathon with 43 additional airings) in 13-hour blocks each day to hype up the premiere of the Sixth Titan arc, which made its' premiere on the Nordic feed that week.
  • For September 2022, CN UK had a month-long Teen Titans September, where 16-hour long marathons of the show aired for the whole month.
    • They repeated this tactic in February 2023, once again to promote new episodes of the show. However, this time the marathons are only 12-hours long.
    • They did it once again for the Summer Holidays of 2023, once again 12-hours long.
