Don't read the tropes below unless you want to be spoiled.
This work provides examples of:
- Amazon Chaser: Hak finds Orihime's Silk Hiding Steel persona a real turn on. The first time he sees her performing a martial arts move on Lord Kan Tae-Jun, he inwardly comments how exhiliarting and proud he was of her, despite his disappointment of her disobeying her father's orders of not learning how to fight or use weapons.
- Anywhere but Their Lips: Hak has kissed Orihime on her hand a few times, and on her forehead. It's heavily implied that he knows Orihime is still grieving over Ichigo, and that is the safest way for him to deal with his own feelings for her.
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: Orihime and Hak. Yona has commented that Hak seems to be only person to push Orihime's buttons. Although, she never fully gets angry, just mildly annoyed for the most part.
- Betty and Veronica: Orihime's the Archie to Hak's Betty and Ichigo's Veronica. Hak is Orihime's reliable, sarcastic Childhood Friend and The Gadfly. Ichigo is Orihime's Jerk with a Heart of Gold confidant and fiance with a hot tempered attitude and brash demeanor. They are both in love with Orihime, but while Hak has an I Want My Beloved to Be Happy mindset, Ichigo doesn't hesitant to pursue her strongly if there's even a silver of a chance they can be in a relationship.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Orihime. Generally nice and mild mannered. Just don't mess with her friends and family.
- Big Sister Instinct: There are times where Orihime shows how protective she is of Yona, her younger sister's wellbeing and happiness being her first priority. Case in point when she pins Kan Tae-Jun down for relentlessly harassing Yona and making her uncomfortable with his obsessive advances.
- Bodyguard Crush: Hak becomes Orihime's and Yona's bodyguard, and has been stated to have feelings for the former.
- Childhood Friends: Orihime, Yona, Hak, and Soo-Won.
- Childhood Friend Romance: Hak is in love with Orihime, and Yona has strong feelings for Soo-Won.
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Orihime.
- Cool Big Sis: Yona greatly looks up and admires her big sister, Orihime.
- The Confidant: It's heavily implied that Ichigo was this for Orihime, which is why they had a strong connection that soon transformed into love. He was the only person at the time that seems to know of Orihime's Hidden Depths and dreams of leaving the castle to wander the world, so that she could see with her own eyes the state of people and how she could better rule it when she becomes the next ruler.
- Cry into Chest: Chapter 5. Orihime breaks down in Hak's arms when the realization that she would never see her beloved Ichigo again hits her full force, and when he promises to stay with her through the entire ordeal of her grief and pain of her loss.
- Driven to Suicide: Heavily implied by Ichigo, claiming he would follow Orihime to death just to be with her.
- Ichigo prevents Orihime from doing this in a posthumous letter after his death, saying he would never forgive her if she dared to follow him a death.
- The First Cut Is the Deepest: Ichigo's death has left Orihime with some series emotional baggage. This makes her Oblivious to Love status justifiable because she can't think of looking at or seeing another man in a romantic light while her thoughts and her heart are still filled with Ichigo. Hak understands this, which is way he doesn't push his own feelings on her, supporting her and silently giving her space to grief.
- First Kiss: Hak receives his first kiss from Orihime. Only because he dared her to kiss him, if he ever made general just to see how far she would go to keep her promises. Guess what happens when he does... Although, given Hak's crush on her... Does this still count as a win on his part, even though he lost the bet?
- First Love: Ichigo is this for Orihime.
- The Gadfly: Hak, no doubt.
- Girly Girl And Tomboy: It's obvious that Orihime and Yona have this dynamic going on with Orihime as the tomboy and Yona as the girly girl. At first glance they are both princesses, but while Yona is the naive, pampered one who enjoys extravagant clothing and makeup, Orihime is the energetic, outgoing, and free spirited princess, who secretly practices martial arts.
- He Is All Grown Up: It's hinted that Orihime never viewed Hak as a man, but as an (annoying) little brother. When she realizes that Hak can have "urges" that's when she starts to seeing him in a different light, silently asking herself when did he become so big (despite the fact that he's about a head taller than her), and blushing all the while. This is the moment when Orihime registers that Hak isn't a little boy anymore, but a grown man.
- Hopeless Suitor: Hak is this towards Orihime.
- I Did What I Had to Do: In Ichigo's posthumous letter, he considers his pursuit of Orihime as this. It's revealed that he was aware of Hak's feelings for Orihime. Initially, he was going to back off, but, as the years passed and his feelings for her grew stronger, he couldn't hold himself back anymore. He basically just said 'Screw it. If Hak isn't going to ask her out, then he will.' Though he does tell Orihime that if anything were to happen to him, then Hak would 'take care of her'.
- I Gave My Word: Orihime is a firm believer of keeping her promises, no matter what.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: The main reason why Hak backs off when Orihime starts a relationship with Ichigo, and doesn't try to pursue her. Even after her First Love's death, he still doesn't try to get with her because he knows she still has lingering feelings for Ichigo.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Ichigo. This is the reason why Hak and mainly Yona can't understand why the sweet and caring Orihime would fall for him. To them, he just doesn't seem to be her type. At first, they thought she surprisingly was into All Girls Want Bad Boys until she explains to them that, despite his rough and brash exterior, Ichigo is actually a kind, loyal, and honest person, effectively making her Single Woman Seeks Good Man. She loves him, even with his faults and flaws.
- Kissing Cousins: Just like in Canon, Yona has a crush on her older cousin, Soo-Won.
- Likes Older Women: Given that Orihime is a couple years older than Hak, this kinda implies. Though, he is not above making jokes about it.
- The Lost Lenore: Ichigo is this for Orihime.
- Love at First Sight: Ichigo fell in love with Orihime the moment he saw her beautiful smile.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Hak has a minor one when he almost comes close to inadvertently killing Orihime.
- Never Got to Say Goodbye: This where most of Orihime's grief stems from. She never got tell Ichigo how much she loved him or deliver her wedding vows to him. And him dying just a month before their wedding is just insult to injury.
- Oblivious to Love: Orihime is unaware of Hak's romantic feelings for her.
- Patient Childhood Love Interest: Hak has been in love with Orihime since they were very little. However, Orihime has always been oblivious of his feelings towards her and only sees him as a little brother. Although, Hak doesn't pursue when she starts a relationship with Ichigo, perfectly happy with just staying at the sidelines.
- Post-Kiss Catatonia: Hak is left completely stunned and speechless after Orihime's Forceful Kiss, wondering if it was a dream or did he die.
- Related in the Adaptation: Orihime is Yona's older sister in this story, and Hak's Love Interest.
- Romantic False Lead: Ichigo, Orihime's First Love, ends up dying in the same chapter he is introduced.
- Sarcastic Devotee: Hak. He may be a loyal servant and bodyguard to Orihime and Yona, mainly Orihime, but he's not above teasing and snarking at them.
- Satellite Love Interest: Ichigo. Only because he dies in the very same chapter he's introduced.
- Silk Hiding Steel: Due to her upbringing, Orihime becomes this. She is sweet, empathetic, and compassionate. Everybody loves and adores her. Just don't mess with her friends, especially her younger sister, Yona, or you'll regret it.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Hak is well aware of how attractive he is to women, but he shows no interest in anyone, except Orihime. Even after she starts a relationship with Ichigo, leaving him as a Hopeless Suitor, he still loves her.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: The reason why Orihime and Yona fall for Ichigo and Soo-Won, respectively.
- Subordinate Excuse: Ichigo claims that this is the reason why he bothered being a general, so that he could be as close to Orihime as possible, hopeful to serve under her when she becomes the next ruler of Kouka Kingdom. In fact, he is so loyal to her, that he not only acts as her confidant, but was also more than willing to quit being a general and leave the Water Tribe, so that he could freely travel the world with her.
- Tall, Dark, and Snarky: Hak.
- Tragic Keepsake: Orihime's necklace is the last gift she has of her beloved Ichigo. She wears it in remembrance of him.
- Wacky Marriage Proposal: Ichigo's claim of Orihime being his future, and she effectively knew he was proposing to her. Aww! Too bad he dies a month just before their wedding.
- What Does She See in Him?: Initially, Yona couldn't fathom why her sweet and kind sister would fall for a guy like Ichigo. She finds his personality very undesirable and unpleasant, but eventually learns to tolerate and later warms up to him when she continuously witnesses his softer side towards Orihime. In Yona's opinion, as long as Ichigo makes Orihime happy, then she was okay with their relationship.
