Fanfic / Pokémon: Loud Version Kanto

Go To

Pokemon Loud Version Kanto is a Doorstopper of a crossover between The Loud House and Pokémon that combines elements of both the show and the games, written by Silver Nugget

It is a No Such Luck AU where, after being accused by Lynn of ruining her championship softball game, Lincoln's family plans to send him away to live with his Aunt Ruth until the whole "bad luck" mess blows over. However, a suggestion by Lisa leads to a different destination that will change Lincoln's life forever.

Pokémon Loud Version Kanto contains examples of:

  • A-Cup Angst: When an impressed Rita says she wishes she was as developed as Misty is when she was her age note , Luna and Luan, who were eavesdropping, mutter about it not being fair.
  • Adapted Out: Ash Ketchum's role is taken by Lincoln Loud.
  • Adaptation Deviation/Crossover: This is a Loud House and Pokemon fic AND since this fic basically combines elements from the games (Levels and Exp.) the anime (characters like Gary and the more realistic battle setup) and manga (Damien's Adaptational Heroism in The Electric Taleof Pikachu and Adventures!Red) is somewhat expected.
  • Adaptational Badass: In this universe, Rusty is able to legitimately win a Pokémon battle. It's not a high bar by any means, but compared to what he was like in his own series...
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the anime, Charmander's original trainer was a complete Jerkass who left his Pokémon to die because he thought he was useless. Here this Damien is based on the version from the manga, and really did mean to come back for Charmander, but he got hospitalized due to an accident and wasn't able to go get his friend.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Lincoln's Charmander is no longer the disobidient 'mon of the team thought on the other hand...
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Lincoln's Squirtle/The Leader of the Squirtle Squad receives this role because of him being responsible for disbanning said squad.
  • Anything but That!: None of the Loud family particularly care to spare Rita's feelings when they openly voice how the idea of sending Lincoln to aunt Ruth's was practically the worst thing they could do to him.
  • Berserk Button: Don't call Lynn Jr a sore loser and don't dare suggest it wasn't Lincoln's bad luck that cost her the game, because saying that means you think the other team was better than her.
  • Big Sister Bully: It's an NSL fic, so it's to be expected.
    • Misty's elder sisters still tease her about her looks, but they do admit that their baby sister is a better trainer than they are.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Bobby gets angry when he thinks that Lincoln believes Ronnie Anne isn't good enough for him. This doesn't last as Lynn explains what happened between Lincoln and herself and he accepts it graciously. When confronting Lori, he gets angry at her for calling Ronnie Anne a liar and tells her that if he has to choose between her or his sister, then he's going to choose Ronnie Anne just like how Lori should choose her family over himself.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Misty tries to tell Lincoln how she feels about him, but the moment she opens her mouth, Team Rocket decides to crash the party.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Lincoln is able to unknowingly draw the attention of several girls in the Kanto region without realizing it.
  • Composite Character: Lincoln fills the role of Ash's anime and manga counterparts.
  • Control Freak: Bobby's main gripe about Lori as he breaks up with her is that she seems to believe that she has the final say over who her brother does or does not date.
  • Demoted to Extra: Delia goes from being a supporting character to the woman who tells Lincoln who the three kids of Pallet Town are (Red, Leaf and Gary), and she hasn't made any appearances since then.
  • Exiled to the Couch: Rita makes Lynn Sr. sleep on the couch for agreeing with the girls' decision to board up Lincoln's room while he's gone.
  • Free-Range Children: The fic explains just how children can be allowed to just wander the countryside without supervision. Once you have a license a trainer is considered a legal adult with all of the perks and privileges therein. Meaning they can drink, smoke, and do anything that a grown-up is allowed to do without anyone stopping them. However, they are encouraged not to as just because they can doesn't mean they should. This means that they also have all the negative aspects of a legal adult, and can get arrested and charged as an adult should they break the law
  • Graceful Loser: Unlike Lynn, Lincoln takes his losses with dignity, such as when he loses against the undefeated trainer A.J. Unlike Ash, he actually congratulates his opponent on his win and is a good sport, something A.J. both respects and appreciates, as he says he's dealt with plenty of trainers that were sore losers who accused him of "cheating" and wanted rematches.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Some of the Loud girls become jealous of Lincoln as he explores Kanto. Lana because he gets to meet and train all sorts of fantastic monsters, and Luna because of all of the super attractive girls he meets. Then there's the more bitter sisters who are pissed that they've been going through a series of bad luck, while Lincoln has had nothing but good fortune follow him. What really made them furious is finding out he won tickets to a cruise ship, the ST Anne.
  • Heel Realisation: One by one, the Louds' come to realize how horribly they treated Lincoln.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When Lynn still loses her softball game despite Lincoln not following them to the championship, Lynn claims that Lincoln's bad luck is spreading like a virus and is following them around.
  • Karmic Jackpot: After months of getting treated like crud by his family, Lincoln finds himself a world away training fantastic monsters, catching the attention of pretty older girls without trying and being seen as a legal adult.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Lucy puts a curse on all of Lincoln's sisters (including herself), and their parents that will deliver bad luck on each of them proportionate to how much involvement they had in Lincoln's treatment since the bad luck incident.
    • Gary himself also gets a taste in his first battle with Lincoln. When Lincoln's Pigeotto accidentally wrecks Gary's car in the first round, the arrogant prick makes a wager with him. If he can beat him, he'll give Lincoln a solid gold nugget he found, and he won't make Lincoln pay for the damages to his car. Gary loses, and says he only won cause he "got lucky".
  • Never My Fault: No matter what evidence shows up that says otherwise, Lynn refuses to believe Lincoln wasn't bad luck because if she does, then that means she's admitting that she lost fair and square and the other team simply played better than her or, in this case, smarter, as Lisa reveals that Lynn pitches and plays the same way every game. She points out that the other team likely saw this and practiced to counteract her play style. Of course, Lynn's stubborn pride refuses to see anything wrong with her methods.
  • No-Sell: When Gary first meets Lincoln, he tries to mock him over having caught only 8 Pokémon while he has over 20. But unlike Ash, Lincoln isn't fazed or impressed by this, even stating that he himself isn't going to catch every Pokémon he encounters. Gary however is baffled how his insults aren't affecting this 'loser'. And unlike Ash, Lincoln, Misty, and even Pikachu insult him back, easily getting him riled up by asking, what with his expensive car and own cheerleaders, if he's Compensating for Something.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Lincoln is the first person outside the Pokémon region to become a trainer and is already changing up how the natives view Pokémon battles as instead of sticking to moves that Pokémon instinctively learn as they level up, he's inventing all-new moves out of his own ingenuity and pulling out win after win against what should be superior opponents by catching them off guard by pulling off attacks that nobody has ever heard of or has known how to counter. It's downplayed as eventually the trainers take a page out of his book and start coming up with none-instinctive moves for their Pokémon as well.
  • Pet the Dog: Though they say it in a backhanded way, Misty's older sisters do acknowledge that she is a better trainer than any of them and the one who should be leading the gym.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Sick of his family's treatment of him and the increasing Insane Troll Logic of Lynn, when his sister comes home and blames him for her loss despite not being there, Lincoln goes off on her that she just wants to blame "bad luck" because she's too much of a sore loser to admit she lost fair and square (Of course, this just sets off her Rage Breaking Point). And when his parent's tell him they're sending him to Kanto, he really explodes and calls them out on how they always play favorites to his sisters, while he get's punished and blamed for everything. He's so crossed with his parents, that when they bring him to Prof. Oak at the airport, he won't even say goodbye to them, much to Rita's heartbreak.
    • Rita herself starts losing her patience with her husband and daughters treating Lincoln's absence like a blessing and constantly calling him "bad luck", but when her own husband says the girls want to board up his room again, she puts her foot down and threatens that anyone who does so will be sleeping outside and have their possessions sold like what they did to Lincoln. Also, because Lynn Sr. is siding with them, she has him sleep on the coach until further notice. She also is no longer being a pushover and no longer lets the girls get away with their out of control behavior, such as when Lincoln gives calls for his second progress report, and Lynn tells him how they sold his stuff to go to the beach, making him end the call and cry, so she responds by grounding her for a month and bans her from sports.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Lisa and Pigeotto in the main story and an omake, respectively, tell Lynn that she's a sore loser who'd rather blame Lincoln for being bad luck than admit the other team simply beat them. Pigeotto goes a step further by saying that luck is just an excuse for the untalented, and if she's relying on it as much as she is to win, then clearly she's not as great an athlete as she thought she was.
    • Bobby gives one to Lori about trying to control Lincoln's love life, saying how she should value her family over their relationship, and how she thinks so little of him that he'd break up with her if Lincoln didn't date Ronnie Anne.
  • Ship Tease: There are several cute moments between Lincoln and Misty, as well as Clyde with Haiku and Ronnie Anne.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Thanks to some special hearing aids Lisa invents, anyone who wears them can understand what a Pokémon is saying and Pokémon can truly understand what they are saying.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Bobby asks why they didn't tell Lincoln about the Sister Fight Protocol, Lori tells him that it was a sister thing and he didn't need to know. Bobby snaps back that if Lincoln had known about the protocol ahead of time, then he probably would have gone over to Clyde's at the beginning instead of staying and making everything worse by trying to help. Lori realizes how much trouble could have been avoided if they'd done that.
  • You Didn't Ask: When Professor Oak reveals that, by completing the trainer's exam, Lincoln is legally considered an adult as well as legally emancipated, Lisa asks why he didn't tell her this, to which he replies that she never asked him.
  • Younger Than They Look: Lampshaded, by Rita, who is surprised to hear Misty is only a year older than Lincoln when she looks like she could be Luna's age.
  • World of Buxom: Lampshading the anime's art style, it's pointed out by his mom and sisters that the girls Lincoln encounters in Kanto are far more developed and develop far earlier than they really should be.
