Fanfic / Owl House: NT Witch

Go To

Owl House: NT Witch is a Fan Fic written by SuperHeroTimeFan acting as a crossover with The Owl House and MegaMan NT Warrior.

When Luz Noceda and her NetNavi Azura come to the Boiling Isles, they bring with them a new world of excitement. Joined with new friends, they aim to follow in the footsteps of their hero, Lan Hikari and MegaMan. Dealing with school, crushes, an evil emperor and Eda's sister shouldn't be hard, but an old foe thought to be Deleted and growing an army? Bring it. Jack In and Power Up!

In a unique twist, this story takes place during the events of the MegaMan NT Warrior events following Axess. Coinciding with an earlier MegaMan NT Warrior crossover, Kim Possible: Axess Hero, it sees Luz as a young NetBattler with her NetNavi, Azura, based on the book left for her by her father.

This story provides examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: Principal Bump is shown in the eighth chapter to have a yellow and black Scroll PET, with a Navi known as WaspMan, a clear nod to the role Bumper Robinson had in Transformers: Animated, Bumblebee. While his Navi has yet to be appear, it can be assumed he would have an appearance similar to that of Bumblebee too.
    • WaspMan finally makes his appearance by the eleventh chapter, and indeed has quirks and similar appearances to Animated Bumblebee.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Luz was no slouch in canon, but here she is a skilled NetBattler who was able to gain the attention of the NetPolice a year following the events of the final Axess episodes "Dark vs Dark" and "Dr. Regal's Rampage", and in her first try, gains the ability to perform CrossFusion.
    • Skara is shown to be quite adept in her magic, utilizing the same whistling technique used by Raine, and a Black Canary-like scream that can cancel out ShadeMan‘s Noise Crush attack.
  • Adaptational Context Change: Canon implied that Manny Noceda died of a terminal illness. Here, he was a doctor at a hospital in DenTech City, and succumbed to injuries when a CrossFused LaserMan attacked.
    • Luz is sent to camp not because her project went out of control, but because she had been working herself ragged in making sure that the cyber and human worlds were safe.
    • Eda brings up girlfriend and enbyfriend in addition to ex-boyfriends when welcoming Luz to the Owl House, and is more secretive about Raine.
  • Adaptation Distillation: The second chapter incorporates element of "Witches Before Wizards", "I Was a Teenage Abomination", and "The Intruder".
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Or mention. Katya is already known to be affiliated with Raine, wanting to mention Luz to them.
    • Edric and Emira are shown at the Covention, though go unnamed.
  • Adaptation Expansion: In some episodes of Axess and in other episodes that use CrossFusion, when a Battle Chip is used, its image is seen across the screen before being used. Here, it is described as being from the display on the visor before it activates.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While Luz was not considered dumb, here she has a NetBattler mindset and was shown to have aced her project instead of it being a mess. She even owns a custom Battle Chip Gate, and adapts quickly to CrossFusing for the first time.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Mattolomule in canon was a Jerkass who wanted (and got) the position of president of the Human Appreciation Society, and only got redeeming traits by the second season. Here, he’s a humble guy with no nasty attitude and has a For Science! attitude, as well as showing more intelligence when it comes to using Construction Magic.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Skara is a main character here, having broken off from Boscha a long time ago and is a trio with Willow and Gus before Luz arrives.
    • Mason, the Construction Coven head, was a minor character with no lines and was seemingly aligned with Belos. Here, he is shown to be quite passionate about his work, and constructs Luz's classroom in three days.
  • Ascended Meme: A LEGO Eda appears from Eda’s stolen goods.
  • Back from the Dead: ShadeMan was savvy enough to create backups of his code, allowing him to revive after Dr. Regal destroyed him and follow Luz to the Isles to menace them like he did Earth.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Averted for Luz and Azura when melee weapons are used. Instead of the arm changing into the weapon, it forms from the tip of Azura's staff, known here as the MagiBuster. Subverted later when it is only for the right hand, and a HeroSword chip forms for Luz normally in her left CrossFused hand.
    • Played straight for Luz’s Starlight Style Change.
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 5 is a bit of a break from the action of the last few chapters, focusing more on personal interactions, like Camila officially meeting Vee.
  • Brick Joke: Amity concludes her analysis of Luz in the sixth chapter with “It's totally platonic!” in the midst of one of her gay panic moments. When Luz nicknames her Am-Am in the ninth chapter, she’s thinking to herself “Is this no longer platonic?!”
  • Butt-Monkey: Odalia gets screwed over multiple times. First her inventions to take on Darkloids fail and she loses her investors to Luzura Incorporated, her control over Amity slips once she’s robbed of her necklace, and after failed attempts at developing her own version of CrossFusion, is on a three-strike warning for a cease and desist. By the twelfth chapter, she is put on her second strike.
    • Boscha also falls under this, first struggling to come to terms with (as far as she knows) not being able to call Willow a half-a-witch, but also has to endure the potential consequences for breaking the Oath, and is the first victim of BubbleMan when trapping her in a bubble, and when she gets freed, falls flat on her face.
  • The Cameo:
    • At the prologue events, Sal was shown to be present during the rampage of Dr. Regal helping evacuate the city. Her exchange with Manny implies Masa and Miyu were there too.
    • Boscha and the unnamed girl with a mouth for hair (later named as Zoe) are mentioned, but not named, in the streets when Luz sees the Boiling Isles for the first time.
  • Canon Welding: Apparently the Dimensional Area tech was partially based on the Background Magic Field of the Demon Realm.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • As the story takes place in the middle of Stream, everyone owns a Progress PET.
    • The crown of King is a crown from the birthday of Dex's younger brother, Chisao, whose birthday was celebrated in Kim Possible: Axess Hero.
      • Kim Possible and Miracle, the main characters from the same story, are mentioned and shown at the cheer-offs.
    • The events that take place a year before the main events are straight from the climax of "Dark vs Dark" and "Dr. Regal's Rampage", with the exact same lines uttered by the characters, but from Luz's point of view, who seemed to have seen Lan not in DoubleSoul when taking on Regal, making him and MegaMan more of a hero to her.
    • Luz has a special bronze-rimmed chip identified as an extension chip, which Lan used for the Elec Style in the series.
    • In the second chapter, Luz has a conversation differentiating the PET with pets, just like Lan and Masa's conversation in the very first episode of MegaMan NT Warrior.
    • ShadeMan expresses irritation at magic illusions as the equivalent of holograms, which LaserMan would trick him with.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: After ShadeMan turns Penelope into the Darkloid Pandora, she goes after Luz... because she beat Amity and proved her prediction that the witch would win the duel wrong. Even after Amity points out that she got overconfident, Pandora is undeterred.
  • Driving Question: What did Wily do in the Boiling Isles that makes Eda, King, Lilith and Hooty so terrified of him?
  • Even Evil Has Standards: ShadeMan was going to turn Belos into a new Darkloid, but then he saw him feeding on Palisman and was so disgusted that not only did he stop, but in the next chapter he breaks into the palace solely to rescue the captive Palismen and deliver them to safety with the Bat Queen.
    • Pandora is quite livid when Lurerre turned on VineMan.
Pandora: We might be Darkloids, Lurerre, but we don't attack our superiors!
  • Everyone Has Standards: In Skara's explanation for how she left Boscha's gang, Amity was shown to be disgusted by Boscha attempting a cruel prank on Willow and left her party before she could carry out the deed.
    • Even Boscha is horrified when seeing Luz seemingly being burned alive.
  • Faint in Shock: Boscha, unnamed in the third chapter, does this when hearing Luz's third term for the entire Demon Realm to never call Willow a half-a-witch, even in dreams or whispers. It becomes a Brick Joke later when Amity yields to Luz, and she is seen crying into the seat in front of her.
  • Foot Focus: In the sixth chapter, one of the details Amity makes of Luz in her heatwave attire is her smooth soles and toe rings on both feet, with her face turning redder when seeing her sole.
  • Given Name Reveal: The story gives new last names to several characters that differ from other Fan Fic stories:
    • Skara's last name is Capella, a play on A Cappella.
    • Boscha's full name is Boscha Yong-Jon, a reference to the actor with the reversed name, Johnny Yong Bosch.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Raika and SearchMan appear in the fourth chapter, following Eda into the Demon Realm and helping Luz, before heading back once the Conjuring is over. His early use of CrossFusion and comments about the Stream Savior initiative would lead into the main story events of MegaMan NT Warrior: Stream known as Kim Possible: Stream Savior, further hinted by the "Will Return" Caption at the end.
  • I Kiss Your Foot: Chapter 12 has Amity in a Literature/Cinderella position when asked by Luz to put her shoe lost after falling back onto her foot. She is shaking the entire time, and is warned by Hecate that they’ll have a talk if she lives any fantasy or desire she had in this scenario, indicating this was something she fantasized doing.
  • Imagine Spot: Chapter 10 shows Boscha with one when told by Cat and Amelia (after being told by Skara that the Oath was undone a long time ago), that one of the supposed consequences for calling Willow a half-a-witch would be serving her for all the times she said "half-a-witch" times an hour. It involves her hauling Willow around Hexside, on a throne, and nearly breaks down after being told to go to the ground floor after having carried her all the way up. The end of it reveals she said "half-a-witch" 8,760 timesnote
  • Magitech:
    • The network that crystal balls and Scrolls use on the Boiling Isles is similar enough to the Net on Earth that Azura and other NetNavis can access it just as easily.
    • Luz is able to convert Scrolls into a new type of PET known as the Scroll PET.
  • Mythology Gag: Several to the Mega Man Battle Network games and other Mega Man media.
    • The first chapter sees Luz use a rare version of a Z-Saver Battle Chip, calling to mind the Mega and Giga Chips.
    • Just like in Axess Hero, the Guardian Chip lets out a "Punisher" announcement before striking lightning down.
    • Luz utilizes an ElectroSword in her fight against Amity, as well as AntiWater to use on the Abominations, showing the electric element advantage over water.
    • Lilith's anti-Darkloid task force is called the Maverick Hunters.
    • Luz's classroom has a battle simulator with one side with nine red squares and the other with nine blue squares, a reference to the battle station in the Mega Man Battle Network games, where both sides started out with the same panels (barring Liberation Missions in the fifth game).
    • Skara’s NetNavi, Melody is designed after Harp Note from Mega Man StarForce.
    • Camila's NetNavi is the EXE version of the nurse Reploid, Cinnamon, from Mega Man X: Command Mission.
    • The fourth chapter shows that Skara left Boscha's group after a failed prank on Willow, a darker take on this MoringMark comic, but replacing Luz with Willow and having a much different outcome.
    • The eleventh chapter has Amity stating her favorite color as lavender and discarding a set of her purple tights, dubbed as "Periwinkle Purple". The Valentine's Day episode of Chibi Tiny Tales established the opposite, so this is a jab at how Beta rigged the favorite color round to say Amity's favorite color was periwinkle and not lavender.
  • Named by the Adaptation:
    • The girl with a mouth for a head and tongue for hair from the Illusion Track is named Zoe.
    • Lilith’s white raven Palisman is named Mike Socks.
    • Penelope, later the Darkloid Pandora, is the Oracle girl who gave King his pen offering.
  • Near-Villain Victory: BubbleMan comes closer to a victory than canon, creating a cloudburst of boiling water while simultaneously reversing the water flow with boiling water in every home to cause chaos and panic. His only flaw was Eda who had her own water supply and therefore was the only one not affected. Even still, the Isles is damaged by the boiling water after the chaos has passed.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: The ninth chapter reveals a plethora of new Darkloids, with one of them being a non-binary known as SerratEnby, an amalgamation name of “serrated” and “enby”.
  • Nosebleed: In Chapter 6 Luz is wearing an outfit that shows much more skin than her normal look in order to deal with a heat wave, and Amity gets a nosebleed from seeing her like that. Luckily for her, Luz simply assumes that she's also suffering from the heat. Emira has a similar reaction when she sees Luz herself.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Luz and Azura's abilities, and those of the revived ShadeMan and his new Darkloids, come completely out of left field for the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles.
  • Pet the Dog: ShadeMan, disgusted by Belos feeding on Palismen, rescues all the ones he has in "stock" and delivers them to safety with the Bat Queen.
    • In the same chapter earlier, the Darkloids allow Cat to heal the other Banshees despite holding them hostage.
    • When BubbleMan returns, not only does ShadeMan save him, but gives him an authority position over the other Darkloids.
  • Quick Draw: Boscha challenges Luz to one in the fourth chapter, making it a literal case for her magic. Luz easily wins.
  • The Reveal: Skara was once the captain of the Banshees when she used to be with Boscha. When attempting a cruel harmful prank on Willow for her birthday a la dumping spoiled Apple Blood on the plant witch (even said to be an equivalent to tar and feathering, Skara used a manipulation spell to make it fall on Boscha instead, cutting off all ties with her so she could be friends with Willow and Gus instead.
  • Running Gag: Several:
    • Boscha struggling not to call Willow a half-a-witch.
    • Dynamite plungers being mistaken for pogo sticks, and being pressed down.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Luz vs Warden Wrath. Wrath uses blades morphed from his arms while Luz uses an EvilCut Program Advance.
    • This happens again with Luz and PsychedelicMan, with Luz using only a simple CyberSword blade.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: Promotional art of Emira has her with an uncharacteristically devious grin and a shadow behind her that doesn’t resemble her. Made more unnerving by the fact that she’s the only character designed with a shadow.
  • So Proud of You: Eda tells Luz that she's proud of her after seeing how much she's made from the Hexside students that want a new Scroll PET upgrade.
  • Spit Take: Luz has this when Boscha tells her in the ninth chapter that none of the Darkloid forces are guarding the Dimensional Converters. Subverted when she spits at Amity... who takes in the whole drink and spits it at Boscha herself.
  • That Man Is Dead: GrandeurMan proclaims that Adegast is dead in chapter 6.
  • Transformation Sequence: As it was for Axess Hero, CrossFusion transformations are shown in full detail. Luz's ending pose calls to mind the quirky stand she made in "Eda's Requiem".
    • This is taken further with Skara, Amity, Gus and Willow when they also gain CrossFusion.
      • In a page taken out of the choreography of Koichi Sakamoto, they make use of their sequences, weaponize them against enemies, and as of the tenth chapter, pose into the fight after their transformations are completed.
  • Villain Has a Point: As petty and cruel as GrandeurMan was, he wasn’t wrong when calling out Emira and Edric on their treatment of Amity.
  • Villain Respect: VineMan clearly shows this to Willow in the tenth chapter, out loud commenting that she is more skilled than everyone else he has faced, to the point where he takes his defeat by her in stride and is completely civil with her at all times.
  • The Virus: ShadeMan uses his new magically enhanced Dark Chips to turn several Boiling Isles residents into new Darkloids for his army, with Adegast being the first.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 7 reveals that Dr. Hikari has visited the Demon Realm in the past, and Eda and Lilith apparently know something about it.
    • Chapter 11 has Amity bring out Hecate from her PET, get a new makeover from a Lunar Eclipse and slowly find a bond with Hecate after a hug from her. Luz Deletes her first Darkloid, finds a map that leads to the Real All Along Celestial Staff, and now has a classroom set for her future lessons at Hexside, and BubbleMan suddenly shows up following the Eclipse.
  • Wham Shot: When Lurerre takes the Illusion Dark Chip for herself, we finally how she really looks under her helmet, but while she looks like Boscha, lines from Pandora and SaberMan indicate she was created from her worst aspects, and was a creation of Pandora.
  • What If?: Thanks to Luz having Azura, and the presence of Navis in general in this AU, things turn out differently than canon in a number of places:
    • Thanks to ShadeMan turning Adegast into the first of his new Darkloids, the events of "Witches Before Wizards" never happen.
    • As a result of the above, Luz meets Willow a day early, and she never poses as her Abomination, and Bump doesn't ban her from Hexside thanks to her work fending off a Virus attack.
    • Thanks to Luz using CrossFusion, she wins her duel against Amity.
    • Thanks to ShadeMan making his debut to all of the Boiling Isles at the Covention, the duel between Eda and Lilith never comes to pass.
  • What You Are in the Dark: In the tenth chapter, Luz has showed prejudice against the Darkloids, refusing to believe there is any good in them. When VineMan seemingly perishes saving Willow and the Bonesborough Garden Club from a fire caused by Lurerre, she rushes back in to try and save him, and even sheds a tear when she sees he died saving every plant.
