Loona Goetia is a Helluva Boss fanfiction, written by FaroeKing, author of Newest Pup in the Family and You Are My Real Dad, on Archive of Our Own.

Loona never knew her real family, and honestly never cared to. All she had known was her old life at the orphanage and her current life, as the adopted daughter of the eccentric Blitzo and the receptionist of I.M.P. It was not the life she wanted, but it was better than none. But all that changes on her adoption day anniversary, as Blitzo, throws her a huge surprise party. Even celebrating it at one of Stolas’ many mansions. It is there she meets a servant, who recognizes Loona.

The next day, I.M.P. receives a surprising visit. Marchioness Marchosias, demanding to see Loona.

To see her long-lost daughter.

According to FaroeKing they were inspired by Growing Up Impish by CheyCartoongirl8 and CynicalGenre and Familial Modulation by Cybra which have a similar premise of a member of IMP secretly being related to a powerful member of the upper levels of Hell's hierarchy.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Species Change: Loona is half-Goetian on her mother's side instead of just being a hellhound.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Marie calls Loona/Diana "My Moon".
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Marie threatens to force Loona to come with her, when she refuses to return to her old life willingly, Loona coldly dares her to; telling the Marchioness she'd be no better than the people at her old orphanage, who cut off her wings and raised her to believe she was a hellhound all her life. The comparison is what helps get Marie to back off.
  • Benevolent Boss: Marchosias treats her staff well and with respect, despite their lower status.
  • Birthday Episode: The fic opens up with the anniversary of Loona's adoption, which is treated the same as her birthday since she doesn't know when she was born.
  • Breath Weapon: Marchosias can breath fire.
  • Call-Back:
    • IMP still has Striker's Carmine crafted sniper rifle which Moxxie whips out against Marie during her fight with IMP. After the conflict the Goetia confiscates it from them.
    • Moxxie's mafia family is mentioned twice in passing, first by Blitzo as an example of ridiculous things he's learned about the people in his life and later by Millie as an example of how avoiding a topic can backfire.
    • In chapter 4, Stolas takes Blitzo to the same cosmic scape he used to take a young Octavia to when she had nightmares, here it's a pocket dimension he can access at will.
    • In chapter 5, we're treated to Loona shouting "Shut the fuck up!" when the other characters yelling gets on her nerves.
    • During a disaster montage in chapter 7, a job gone wrong led to IMP getting into a firefight with DHORKS again.
  • The Cameo: Bee makes a quick appearance during Marie's flashback at the start of Chapter 8.
    • In the same chapter many of the party guests named and described are actual members of the seventy two demons from the Ars Goetia.
  • Can Not Tell A Lie: Marie claims that as punishment for rebelling against Heaven, she was cursed to never tell a lie when asked a question.
  • Chest Insignia: Art for the story shows Marie wearing a jacket with her seal on her chest.
  • Cliffhanger: Chapter 7 ends with Loona ducking out of the way, as her and Blitzo's appartment blow up in their faces.
  • The Confidant: Octavia is this for Loona who in the first chapter vents some of her pent up anger of her life before Blitz and later confides in her all her feelings and fears over learning her origins.
  • Covered in Scars: Artwork of Marie shows she has scars all over her body.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Marie delivers one to Blitzo, Millie and Moxxie when the former refuses to let her see Loona. Though the imps are able to get a few good hits, in particular with Striker’s rifle, which manages to weaken Marie at points.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Marchosias didn't intentionally abandon her daughter, since Loona was kidnapped when she was a baby, during Extermination Day no less, and Marchosias was led to believe that she had been killed after they found one of her wings.
  • Daddy's Girl: Flashbacks show as a baby Loona seemed to prefer her father, Hunter, to her mother much to Marie's disappointment.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Loona was kidnapped when she was a baby, had her wings cut off in order to pass her off as a hellhound, and was raised in an Orphanage of Fear before being adopted by Blitzo.
  • Distinguishing Mark: Loona has two that help prove she's Marchosias' daughter. The first being the scars on her ear, which came as a result of a failed assassination. The second are two scars on her back, both next to each other where she used to have her wings.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Downplayed. One of Loona's abductors protested cutting off her wings on the grounds she was a baby but still went along with the act.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Chapter 8 reveals Octavia listened in on Stolas' phone call to Blitz and in doing so learned about the whole Loona/Marie thing weeks before her friend came to talk to her about it.
  • Fallen Angel: Marchosias is one per demonic lore, having joined Lucifer and his army in his attempt to overthrow Heaven. After her side lost, Marchosias was cursed and damned to Hell alongside the other Lucifer loyalists, and with few other options, joined the Ars Goetia as a Marchioness Demon.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: While Loona primarily takes after her mother in appearance, she inherited her red eyes from her father, Hunter.
  • Freudian Slip: A few times, Loona almost refers to Moxxie and Millie as friends during highly emotional moments but catches herself and swaps out for co-workers.
  • Gaslighting: Out of anger and resentment for how they've been treated by the Ars Goetia and other royals over the years, Miss Grimwood and her staff decide to raise the infant Loona as a hellhound, cutting off her wings in the process. For the next decades of her life, everyone there treats and talk to Loona as if she is a common hellhound, quickly and coldly refuting any belief in her that she's anything else.
  • Gender Flip: Marchosias is usually a male demon. In this story, she's female. However, apparently there's a popular conspiracy theory going on that Marie is in fact, male. One that Blitzo believes.
Blitzo: Don't be retarded Moxx! Everybody with a brain cell knows Marchosias is a dude!
Marie: Oh for fuck's sake, WHY IS THAT FUCKING CONSPIRACY THEORY STILL GOING ON?!
  • Half-Breed Angst: Loona experiences this upon learning she's half Goetia.
  • Healing Factor: As an immortal Goetia IMP's standard weapons have no real effect on Marie aside from incurring her wrath, evidenced by Blitzo shooting her point black in the head only for her to split the bullet out. The exception is angelic weapons wounds form which require a healing potion and leave scars.
    • Loona confides in Blitz that she has inherited this, as a teenager she fell from height that should have either killed her or left her paraplegic but she recovered overnight.
  • Heal It With Fire: After being shot with rounds from the blessed rifle, which cancel out her above mentioned healing factor, Marie resorts to cauterizing the resulting wounds with the heated blade of her sword. Though, this is a temporary fix as she still has internal bleeding.
  • Healing Potion: After her fight with IMP, Marie drinks one to heal her wounds from the blessed sniper rifle and has Rogue share some bottles with her brief foes. She acquired them from her fellow Goetia and former friend, Phenex.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: After the initial shock of her being the daughter of an Ars Goetian marchioness has passed, Loona's immediate response is to go to a bar and drink herself to a drunken stupor, practically emptying the whole place while she's there.
  • Immortality Begins at Twenty: Marchosias informs Loona that as Goetia Demons enter adulthood they cease aging, which becomes a major source of anxiety for her.
  • In-Series Nickname: Marchosias is commonly referred to as just "Marie".
  • Innocently Insensitive: Emphasis on innocent. In chapter 8, Octavia mentions when she met Marie as a child she would ask if she wanted children or had a boyfriend, naturally unaware of all the Marchioness had lost.
  • The Jeeves: Marie's closest servant is her butler Alphonse, a seasoned fox terrier hellhound butler, who is loyal to a fault and often offers her aid, words of advice and a gentle chastising when she needs it. There's also her former servent Rouge who once acted as a nanny for baby Diana, the scarred imp servant now working for Stolas, she fired and now despises her.
  • Jerkass Realization: Loona calling her mother out on her selfish, cruel behavior, comparing her to Ms. Grimwood and the others at her old orphanage, is what finally makes the previously stubborn Marie realize her own actions. Pained by this realization and seeing how much her own daughter hates her, she reluctantly backs off and leaves them, clearly hurt by what has happened.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Loona turns out to be the long-lost daughter of Marchioness Marchosias, a Goetian demon.
  • Loss of Identity: Learning about her true nature utterly shatters Loona's sense of self. She starts questioning who she is, becoming afraid of outliving her loved ones and Feeling like her whole life has been one big lie and unable to know what she even is anymore, the hellhound initially responds by trying to deny her feelings, until she breaks down in front of Blitzo and then starts distancing herself from her mortal family, instead only opening up to Octavia, a fellow Goetia child, whom she likely won't outlive.
  • Lost Lenore: Loona's birth father, Hunter, is this for Marie who still mourns him over twenty years after after he was killed.
  • Mama Wolf: Marie is naturally very protective of her daughter even after almost twenty years apart with said daughter hating her. The opening of chapter 9 reveals she once locked herself in her study and went full conspiracy nut complete with board trying to figure out who had tried to have baby Diana assassinated.
  • Maternally Challenged: In flashbacks, we're shown that while Marie is great warrior and general she found raising baby Diana difficult to get a handle on something her husband, to whom parenthood seemed to come easier, both teased and comforted her over.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Blitz and Stolas' relationship is pointed out as this as Goetia demons are immortal while imps have a limited lifespan.
  • Meaningful Name: Loona's birth name is Diana, the same as the Roman goddess of The Moon.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The story opens with Loona's/Diana's birth, before cutting right into the present day.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While not said, seeing Blitzo's pained face after she exclaims that he's not her dad, makes Loona regret her cruel words to him and try to apologise the next day.
  • Orphanage of Fear: As bad as Loona's old Hellhound Foundation was, her old orphanage, Miss Grimwood’s Home for the Lost and Damaged Youths, would make it look like paradise. Upon finding her as a baby and realizing what she was, the head, Miss Grimwood had her wings cut off and gaslighted her for years into thinking she was nothing more than a common hellhound, all out of resentment for the Goetias. On top of that, they verbally and sometimes physically abused Loona, whenever she acted up, until they finally dumped her at the Hellhound Foundation.
  • Parental Neglect: Paimon's even extends into Grandparental, as at a party celebrating Octavia's birth he was more interested in showing off a new cowl.
  • Phantom Limb Pain: Loona has experienced pain in her back every few months since she was a child with the sensation that something should be there but isn't. Marchosias reveals that this is because she was born with wings that her abductors cut off.
  • Pocket Dimension: Stolas can access one, the star field he took young Octavia to sing her a lullaby, where he takes Blitzo to so that can talk.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Blitzo and Loona not talking about what happened with Marchosias after Loona decides to stay with him and pretending like nothing changed only creates a miserable atmosphere and makes things worse as the two almost get the team killed on poorly planned out mission before M&M intervene, forcing the two to talk.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: Just a few ranks below it but Loona's birth mother is a Marchioness of the Goetia Family.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Upon learning what Loona endured growing up Marchosias begins to plan one against Grimwood's Home.
    • Loona later promises to bring Octavia along if she goes on one herself after her friend learns that her kidnappers cut off her wings.
  • Scars Are Forever: Marie has scars all over her body from various battles she's faced in her immortal life likewise Loona has a pair on her back from her wings being cut off.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • To protect her child from the upper ranks of Hell, only Marie's staff knew of her existence. The same goes for her marriage to Hunter.
    • IMP, Stolas and Octavia become this after learning Loona is Marie's daughter.
  • Shown Their Work: Much like Stolas in canon, Marie displays various traits associated with the Marchosias from the Ars Goetia.
    • She's a she-wolf with griffin wings and a serpent's tail that can breath fire as the demon is often described.
    • The symbol on her chest in artwork made for the story is the actual seal for summoning Marchosias.
    • She was cursed by Heaven to always speak the truth when asked, Marchosias is said to answer any question his summoner asks truthfully.
    • She is a fallen angel and, according to Word of God, like her counterpart Marie was a member of the angelic order of Dominations before she fell.
    • She is an exceptional fighter.
  • Spotting the Thread: At the end of chapter 9,Andrealphus thanks to Stella calling him to vent about the group in the Stoals' mansion, realises there is a secret connection between Marie and Loona and starts scheming on how he and his sister can use this to their advantage.
  • Stepford Smiler: An unhealthy habbit of Blitzo. When Loona tries to make amends for her cruel words at the birthday party, Blitzo shruggs it off and acts like it didn't upset him, even if it clearly did. And the day after finding out about Marie and Loona's true origins, Blitzo again attempts to pretend nothing's wrong, ignoring how beaten up both him and Loona are by the reveal. This time is at least somewhat excusable, as him thinking Loona would want a return to normalcy and doesn't want to deal with the situation, and thus misguidingly trying to accomidate her.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Loona and Marchosias look incredibly similar to one another, which helps support the reveal that she is indeed Marie's daughter. The main differences, according to Moxxie and Millie, are Loona's lack of wings and snake tail, and Marchosias' shorter hair, yellow eyes, taller and more muscular build, her numerous scars, and her bigger chest.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Marie sports a set.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Marie tells Loona that as her daughter she will most likely develop some of same powers as her. Loona has already realized she's has a healing factor and is mostly likely immortal.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Loona tears into Blitzo after she tries to leave her own birthday party and he refuses to leave her; giving him a rant that leaves him speechless:
Loona: I SAID I’M FINE! Fucking hell, would it kill you for one god damn second to not treat me like I’m a baby all the time?! Every time I so much as stub my toe or have a mood, you act like I just died!
Blitzo: L-Loonie, I’m just trying to protect-
Loona: STOP CALLING ME LOONIE! I’m not a little kid anymore! You know what I can do, but you still treat me like a dumb as bricks baby, who'll fall apart the moment you’re not within five inches from me. Every time I talk to a cute guy, you throw a hissy fit. Every time I want to join you guys on missions, you completely lose your mind. Fuck, I can't even go to the bathroom without you bearhugging me. I’m 22 years old, asshole! I don't need you in every nanosecond of my life. But of course, you just love to play parent, don't you?!
Blitzo: N-now look here, young lady-
Loona: How the hell did you even think you could raise a child anyway? You stalk your employees out of work hours. You waste thousands of $ouls on TVs you use for target practice. You got into a murder/fuck contest with your ex over a fucking parking space! You can barely manage to take care of a company, much less a kid. Heh, now that I think about it, that's probably why you really adopted me. Easier to take care of them when they're practically adults already. I would've been fine without you. If you had just picked one of the other dumb brats at my shit place and let me turn 18, we would’ve both been better off.
Blitzo: Alright, Loonie, that's enough. Regardless of what you think of me, I’m still your dad. And if you'd just-
Loona: GRRRR! How many times do I have to tell you before you get it through that thick head of yours? YOU'RE NOT MY DAD!!! ''
    • A drunken Loona, fresh from learning that she is Marie's daughter, launches into an angry, bitter, sad rant at her mother for abandoning her:
Loona: FFFFFFFUCK! YOUUUUUUUUUUU! (throws a beer bottle at Marie, which misses) "Who-who-who, the FUCK do you think you are, huh? Yyyou think you can just show up, after twenty...twenty-something fucking years beat up Blitz and my fri-cowor-orkers half to fucking death and pre-pretend that everything’s just sunshine and rainbows?! Fuck off!"
      Marie: D-Diana, I understand-
Loona: Oh! Oh, you-you understand huh? What? What esssatly do you understand? What the FUCK do you know what I've been through, huh?! I’ll tell yah. I'll fucking tell yah, NOTHING! You left me! You let me spend my whole fucking childhood in a piece of shit orphanage! I got handed out to assholes, pedos, sickos, and dicks, all the way into adulthood. Nobody gave a shhh-ingle shit about me, including you!
Marie: I-I-I thought you were dead! I couldn't-
Loona: Oh, riiight, sure you did! All your Goetia money and all that power, and you couldn't even find a single kid. How-how long did you, bastards, even search for huh? A day? A week? You probably just gave up, the second you realized you were burning money or ruining your precious image! That's all you fucking royal dicks care about, isn't it?! Ssso much so, you couldn’t even, lend a buck to your so-called daughter. I had nothing! I was eating outta garbage and struggling to live, while you were cozying it up with the rest of your upper-crust fuckhats!
Blitzo: Uh, Loona, I think maybe we should get you to-
Loona: Shut the ffffuck up BLITZ! This between me and her. Can it and sssstay out of my business for once, and let me finish. (Turns back to Marie) They treated me like a dog, down there! I was every bit as a person like ev-verybody else, but they acted like I was a fuch-king animal! Oh wait, that's the best part. Turns out, we're both wrong. I'm not a dog or a person. I'm a fucking GOETIA! As if thsoes assholes weren't assholey enough, they cut off my fuhking wi-wings, which turns out I had and gasssslighted me my whole life. All this time, I at least thought I knew who I was. But no! Turns out my whole life is a FUCKING lie! I'm not a hellhound! I'm not a princess! I’m some fucking royal, halfbreed abomination, who was treated like shit, since the day I was born, for no reason! And all because you didn’t care to save me. Some fucking, loving mother you turned out to be!
      Marie: Diana...
Loona: Nononono, you know what mo-actually fuck that! You don't get that shit! You can just go, t-take your fancy royal ass and...And go...G-BLAAAAARGH! (throws up on Marie and then drunkenly laughs) Hahaha-sssserves y-you right...cunt. (drops unconscious) ''
    • Blitzo calls out both Moxxie and Millie for their unfair treatment of Loona over the years when they try to convince him not to let Loona go, pointing out that they constantly belittled her and acted like she couldn't do anything right. The only reason he didn't kick them out of the company was because Loona was capable of tearing them to shreds if she felt like she couldn't take it anymore. While Blitzo hoped the couple could eventually look past her issues, they never did; he tells them to quit acting like they cared about Loona the whole time now that he's about to lose her and just leave him alone.
  • That Man Is Dead: Loona refuses to be called "Diana" by her birth mother, insisting that she's called Loona.
  • The Voice: Vortex has had a conversation with Loona over the phone and is heard snoring when she wakes up on his couch but has yet to appear in person.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: A drunk Loona violently throws up all over Marie, after an angry, bitter rant, before collapsing unconscious on the floor.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Chapter 8 reveals that Marie and her fellow Marquis Phenex used to be friends. But recent, as of now unknown, reasons have caused them to fall apart.
    • Her relationship with Bee is also this but to a lesser extent as she remains civil with the sin who in turn still sees her as a friend.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Loona stresses over the possibility that she'll outlive everyone she cares about, including Blitzo.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Loona was almost assassinated as baby giving her the notch in her ear. Later, during Extermination Day, she was kidnapped and said kidnappers cut off her wings and would go on to abuse her for years while she was at her orphanage.
  • You're Not My Father: In a fit of rage and frustration, Loona screams this to Blitzo's face after a long and annoying day. She immediately regrets it upon seeing how devistated Blitzo is by her remark, but is unable to apologize in time.
