Fanfic / Kabbalah: The Passive Conqueror

Go To

Kabbalah: The Passive Conqueror is a crossover between Fate/Grand Order and Date A Live by Plot Devil.

Set during the Cosmos in the Lostbelt arc, Chaldea detects a new Singularity that does not allow male Servants to enter. The female Ritsuka Fujimaru and her Servants: Shielder Mashu Kyrielight, Saber Arturia Alter, Archer Ishtar, Lancers Ereshkigal and Scathach, Rider Francis Drake, Caster Circe, Berserker Florence Nightingale, Assassin Jack the Ripper, and Alter Ego Kiara Sessyoin all Rayshift into the Singularity to investigate it. They land in Tengu City sometime between the Yoshino and Kurumi arcs. Since Tengu City resembles the modern world that they came from, Ritsuka and Mashu are overjoyed and decide to treat this adventure as a mini-vacation.

Unfortunately, Ratatoskr, AST, DEM, and the Spirits themselves all mistake them for Spirits because their arrival came with a Spacequake and their Mana signatures are identical to Spirits, leading to conflict. To make matters worse, Da Vinci Lily, Sherlock Holmes, and Sion Eltnam Sokaris manage to contact them from Chaldea and explain that this actually wasn't a Singularity at all, but an entire parallel world. For some reason, Ritsuka cannot be Rayshifted home, so she is stuck there, plus Ritsuka somehow has something resembling a Holy Grail within her body.

The fic was last updated May 3rd, 2022, with the Spacebattles thread being locked due to inactivity.

Kabbalah: The Passive Conqueror provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Though set during the Lostbelts, Mashu has not lost her powers and doesn't need the Ortenaus device to fight. The author admitted to hating that little detail and removing it.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • Kaguya and Yuzuru Yamai battle Ishtar and Ereshkigal and are soundly defeated, admitting they are the superior twins.
    • Ellen, who had been considered the strongest, finds she is no match for Arturia Alter.
  • Ass Shove: Nightingale attempts to treat Ritsuka's fever and threatens to shove pills up her rear. Drake pulls Nightingale away before she can do it.
  • Beam-O-War: Arturia Alter clashes Excalibur Morgan's Sword Beam against Inverse Tohka's Paverschlev's Sword Beam. It balls up and explodes like a nuclear bomb. Mashu using Lord Camelot and Circe erecting a barrier saves the city from being destroyed.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • As soon as they arrive in this world, Mashu is separated from the others and immediately attacked by the AST. When she starts to tire from blocking their bullets, Scathach shows up and takes her to safety.
    • When Kurumi turns the school into her shadow territory and threatens to devour everyone, Mashu uses Lord Camelot to overwrite her territory with the walls of Camelot.
    • When Scathach attempts to kill Kurumi with Gae Bolg Alternative, Shido throws himself in the way. Ritsuka uses a Command Spell to order Scathach to miss, causing her spears to still impale him, but miss his heart.
    • When Kaguya and Yuzuru threaten to destroy Arubi Island, Ereshkigal transports them to the Underworld.
    • Miku takes control of the Fraxinus and orders it to open fire on Shido. Jack sneaks aboard and makes the crew fall asleep with The Mist before they can fire.
    • Like in canon, Shido manifests Tohka and Yoshino's powers to save Miku from Inverse Tohka's blast. However, Inverse Tohka simply fires a much more powerful blast. Kiara teleports Shido and Miku away in time.
    • When Ritsuka finds out that she was turned into a Spirit by Phantom, she starts going crazy and releasing enough energy to destroy the city. Nightingale hits her with Nightingale Pledge in time to calm her down.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Arturia Alter starts giving Tohka and Tenka sword lessons.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Shortly after meeting Ishtar and Ereshkigal at their mansion, Kotori decides to confront Ritsuka about her relationships with the various Servants. Downplayed in that there was no possible way Kotori could have known that Ritsuka was a Spirit and that Jack was hiding nearby, but that was still one of the dumbest moves Kotori has pulled when she knows that Ritsuka has relationships with the Servants that have been giving them trouble.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: As per usual, Kiara is this to Chaldea. It's less that Kiara's needed and more "If I kill you, you'll become an apocalypse again and I can't have that." Only, the threat is even greater now that Kiara's mana is being boosted by Ritsuka's Sephira Crystal.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Downplayed: When it comes to the Spirits themselves, Shidou has plenty of success, but when it comes to Servants like Scathach, who are used to the natural and easy manner in which Ritsuka attracts people, Shidou comes up woefully short. It also didn't help that Scathach could tell someone was helping Shidou with his attempt to woo her.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Natsumi temporarily turns Ritsuka into a child. Her Servants all coo over how cute she looks, so much that they don't punish Natsumi for it.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • The crew of the Fraxinus except for Kotori and Reine are killed when Ellen blows it up.
    • Shido is forced to give Nia Honjou a Mercy Kill.
  • Defeat Means Friendship:
    • After Ishtar and Ereshkigal defeat Kaguya and Yuzuru, the later two become obsessed with helping and serving them.
    • After Circe defeats Natsumi, Natsumi looks up to her as a big sister.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Very nearly Averted. Ritsuka would have crossed it shortly after the revelation from Phantom that a Sephira Crystal was planted inside her, turning her into a Spirit and preventing her from returning home. Were Nightingale not there to stop Ritsuka with her Noble Phantasm, the situation could have been much, much worse.
    • As of the latest chapter, Ritsuka may very well have crossed it after being reminded of the disaster that was the Chaos Tide.
      • Ritsuka has crossed it, as of the latest chapter, fully awakening as a Spirit.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Phantom did not anticipate that Kiara would be able to locate and capture her. She also did not anticipate just how powerful Ritsuka would be as a Spirit.
  • The Dreaded: Phantom, under normal circumstances, is this to a lot of people. It says a lot about how strong Ritsuka is as a Spirit that SHE is the Dreaded to Phantom.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Ritsuka is this, by virtue of being a Spirit. Downplayed, however, when you consider the fact that she's still a Magus, and therefore has some power, but it's to the point where it may as well not exist under normal circumstances.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Ritsuka is prone to making pop-culture references that only she gets. Her Servants call her a geek, but comment that's what they love about her.
  • Enemy Mine: Chaldea and Ratatoskr's relationship can best be summed up as this when it first starts. Downplayed, however, in that it's obviously one-way on Ratatoskr's part, though Chaldea still keeps tabs on Ratatoskr, just in case.
  • Failed a Spot Check: When the Fraxinus gets blown up, Shido frantically runs toward it while dragging Tohka along. Tohka gets confused and did not notice the explosion because she was busy eating ice cream.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: In Chaldea, Ritsuka is Jack's adoptive mother. Aware it would seem strange in Tengu City due to their ages, they call themselves sisters instead.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Kiara captures Kurumi and brings her to Ritsuka. Ritsuka manages to establish a Master/Servant contract with her. Now that Kurumi has a steady source of Mana, she has no need to kill people to drain them and so stops being a threat.
    • As soon as Nightingale runs into Mana Takamiya, she uses Nightingale Pledge on her, completely healing her and repairing her shortened lifespan. Out of gratitude, Mana defects to Ratatoskr.
    • Shortly after Tohka is turned into Inverse Tohka, Kiara as Mable Macintosh tricks Ellen Mira Mathers into slashing Sir Isaac Ray Peram Westcott, critically injuring him into a coma.
    • Ellen is left seething and seeking revenge for her mistake, and is left vulnerable to Phantom contacting her and inserting a Sephira Crystal into her to turn her into a Spirit.
  • Forced Transformation: Circe turns several of Kurumi Tokisaki's clones into piglets, but for some reason cannot change them back. Kurumi keeps them as pets.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: While the Servants admit Kiara is useful for her power, none of them like her because of her perversions and risk of turning into a Beast. They only tolerate her for Ritsuka's sake.
  • From Bad to Worse: As of Chapter 68, this is the situation with Ratatoskr, even if they don't know it. Ellen has managed to kill off most of the Fraxinus' crew, sans Reine and Kotori, destroyed the Fraxinus itself, and her location and current status is, as of now, unknown to Ratatoskr. All of this is bad enough, considering the sheer loss of life, but then you throw Ritsuka into the mix, who, as of the current chapter, is an unsealed Spirit, as well as Natsumi, and the situation for Ratatoskr is bleak with close to no end in sight.
    • As of the latest chapter, things are much, much worse. Ritsuka is ever closer to inverting, and unlike the last time, Nightingale refuses to use her Noble Phantasm to stop it from happening, citing that she believes Ritsuka doesn't want her to stop the inversion from happening. Worse still, we have absolutely no idea how strong of a Spirit Ritsuka well and truly is. But we do know that she has a truly enormous pool of magical energy to draw from now, so much so that it's turbocharged even Divine Spirits like Ishtar and Ereshkigal. If Ritsuka can turbocharge those two, and have way more than enough energy to spare, there's likely very little that Ratatoskr can do, but wait for the inevitable.
      • Ritsuka, as of the latest chapter, has fully awakened as a Spirit. With the very likely scenario that the only support they're getting from Chaldea being Mash, Ratatoskr is facing what could be their greatest challenge. Not only that, thanks to the pact they signed with Ishtar and Ereshkigal, Ratatoskr has lost the ability to seal Ritsuka without Chaldea's explicit approval.
  • Glamour:
    • Ritsuka's team all use Magecraft and Runes to make it so no one will recognize them in civilian garb.
    • Natsumi uses one to make people perceive the little girl as a sexy adult, but Circe sees right through it and forces her to return to her true appearance.
  • Helping Would Be Killstealing: Once Ritsuka learns about Shido Itsuka, she decides to minimize her and her Servants' interference so he can get experience and master his abilities.
  • Horrifying the Horror:
    • The normally Ax-Crazy Kurumi becomes completely terrified of Kiara after being defeated by her.
    • Similarly, Inverse Tohka gets terrified of Arturia Alter.
    • After seeing how powerful Ritsuka is as a Spirit, a terrified Phantom escapes and vows to avoid her at all costs.
  • I Can't Sense Their Presence: Ritsuka's team can use Magecraft and Runes to hide their Mana signatures, making them undetectable. Jack also cannot be detected when she uses Presence Concealment.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Each chapter goes "The [word]" like "The Knight", "The Reaper", "The Nightmare" etc.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: Miku Izayoi becomes attracted to both Shiori and Ritsuka when she cannot mind control them.
  • Immune to Mind Control: Just like Shido/Shiori and fully powered Spirits, Ritsuka and her Servants are unaffected by Miku's mind control. For Ritsuka, this is because she IS a fully-powered Spirit.
  • Impaled Palm: When Kotori starts mouthing off at Ritsuka, Jack loses her temper and hurls a knife at her. Ritsuka saves her by sticking her hand in the way, which gets impaled. Jack quickly stitches it up.
  • The Law of Diminishing Defensive Effort: Discussed and subverted. When Mashu gets attacked by the AST, she remembers that Servants are immune to non-magical attacks and is highly tempted to tank their bullets, but decides to block them with her shield. It was a good call because when a few bullets go past her shield and hit her, though they bounce off, they really hurt.
  • Literal Split Personality: When Shido kisses Inverse Tohka to seal her powers, instead of changing back to regular Tohka like in canon, the two split into separate bodies. Inverse Tohka gets named Tenka and starts living with them. Tohka gets excited to have a new twin sister and remarks that they are now like the Yamai twins.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Ishtar forces Shido, Kotori, and Reine to sign a Self-Geas Scroll so that in exchange for Ritsuka and her Servants helping Ratatoskr when they need it, Shido will never try to date or kiss them.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Mana sees Shido just casually chatting with Jack and automatically assumes he is a pedophile.
  • Modesty Bedsheet: When Shido kisses Miku to seal her powers, which makes her clothes disappear, she quickly wraps a blanket around herself.
  • The Mole: Kiara infiltrates DEM in her Mable Macintosh disguise.
  • Morality Chain: Ritsuka is one to many Servants, especially Kiara. At one point, Circe runs into Natsumi and finds her so annoying that she is tempted to kill her on the spot, but stops herself because that would make Ritsuka upset.
  • Named by Democracy: Similar to the Spirits, the various organizations tend to assign code names to Ritsuka's team that they learn about. Mashu is called "Knight" because of her armor and shield, Scathach is coincidentally called "Lancer" because of her Gae Bolg spears, Circe is called "Harpy" because of her wings, Ritsuka is called "Conqueror" because she was seen giving orders to the others and stopping Scathach from attacking Shido with a Command Spell, Ishtar and Ereshkigal are both called "Goddess" because they are twins and were seen performing godlike feats, and Francis Drake is called "Kapitan" because she looks like a pirate. Circe is most displeased by her code name, saying real harpies are ugly.
  • The Needs of the Many: Tohka gets kidnapped by the DEM at the same time that Miku takes over the city by brainwashing everyone. Shido attempts to rescue Tohka with only Kurumi as an ally, but Ritsuka and her team decide stopping the brainwashed people from hurting themselves or others is more important than saving one girl. Granted, as soon as the people are all subdued, they show up to help Shido.
  • The Nondescript: Kotori becomes suspicious of Ritsuka and looks her up, but complains that her face is so generic that it is hard to describe or remember.
  • Not So Similar: Ritsuka initially compares Miku to Elizabeth Bathory since they are both idols obsessed with singing. She realizes the big difference is that Elizabeth sings because she genuinely wants to entertain people and make them happy, while Miku sings to get attention and does not care about the audience's feelings.
  • Oh, Crap!: During Chapter 64, Phantom drops the bombshell that she planted a Sephira Crystal inside of Ritsuka, which is preventing her from returning to her world and can't be removed unless they want to risk the destruction of Ritsuka's soul. This is an Oh, Crap! on two fronts.
    • First: This means Ritsuka is a Spirit, and is probably going to stay that way unless a miracle happens.
    • Second: She came here during the middle of Cosmos in the Lostbelt. We don't exactly know at what point she came here, so it could be during or prior to any Lostbelt, like Avalon la Fae. How much damage are the Lostbelts doing while Ritsuka's stuck in Shido's world?
      • In chapter 32 Ritsuka mentions Yu Mei-Ren which implies the story takes place post-3rd Lostbelt which leaves only the more destructive Lostbelts left.
      • The fact that Sherlock's still around indicates that this takes place prior to Traum, indicating that Ritsuka still hasn't gone through Lostbelt 7. Meaning, Lostbelt-ORT is still around. Daybit's still planning on awakening it, and we have no idea what that means for the Date A Live-verse.
    • An additional moment happens when you stop to think about it. Shortly after hearing from Phantom how a Sephira Crystal was placed inside of her, Ritsuka began to awaken as a Spirit. That's bad enough when you consider how dangerous she must have been as a spirit for even Phantom to be afraid of her, but considering the sheer amount of despair Ritsuka must have been feeling at that moment, knowing full well that she might never be able to return to her world, which is on the brink of total ruination or worse? Ritsuka might have not only awoken as a Spirit, but could have also inverted on the spot.
      • An addition to this that should be noted is that it's very likely that Sherlock's solution of just letting Shido seal her isn't going to work in this case specifically. We have absolutely no idea if Ritsuka being sealed will make it so that there is literally no way for her to return home, no matter what Chaldea and Ratatoskr tries to do. Because of this, we have an unsealed Spirit that Ratatoskr can't simply just seal away and be done with it like everyone else. They'd potentially be dooming who knows how many billions of people by sealing her away.
      • Due to the fact that this takes place before Traum, Lostbelt-ORT is absolutely still around. Ritsuka is absolutely needed to be able to hope to stand a chance against that monstrosity.
    • As of the latest chapter, Ritsuka has awakened or is extremely close to awakening as a Spirit. Furthermore, the sheer despair Ritsuka felt is edging her ever closer to inverting as well.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Circe has the Noble Phantasm Rule Breaker, which normally belongs to her niece Medea. She says she has it because she taught Medea how to make it.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Servants baffle everyone because they are much more powerful and have more versatile abilities than Spirits. On the flipside, Chaldea has never seen anything like Shido's ability to seal a Spirit's powers with a kiss. The Servants do their best to avoid him, as they are not sure what would happen if he kissed them.
  • Parrying Bullets: Scathach effortlessly deflects bullets with her spear.
  • Power Misidentification: Everybody assumes the Servant's outfits are Astral Dresses and their Noble Phantasms are Angels.
  • Shed Armor, Gain Speed: When Inverse Tohka is strong enough to damage Arturia Alter's armor, she discards it to gain a speed boost.
  • Ship Tease: Subverted, for now. Sherlock throws around the idea that Shido date Ritsuka to seal her and allow her to return to her world. Da Vinci shuts that idea down fast.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Back in Chaldea, Sherlock Holmes suggests Ritsuka date and kiss Shido to drain her Spirit powers so it will hopefully allow her to Rayshift back. Da Vinci Lily, partially due to her pride demanding she be able to figure out a solution, adamantly refuses and insists there must be another way.
  • Taught by Experience: Ritsuka immediately recognizes Shido in his Shiori disguise. She says dealing with Astolfo taught her how to recognize crossdressers.
  • That Was Not a Dream: When Ritsuka and Kurumi find themselves in the Date A Bullet dimension, Ritsuka assumes that she is in a dream, but quickly realizes she is wide awake.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Played With. When Kotori confronts Ritsuka, Ritsuka asks what took Kotori so long, and starts berating her for letting even a small threat go under their radar for so long. Considering where Ritsuka came from, this reaction from her is no surprise. After some explaining on Kotori's part, however, Ritsuka relents, knowing full well what it's like to be on such limited resources, and being unable to do anything about a particular threat.
  • This Cannot Be!:
    • Kurumi has this reaction when Mashu uses Lord Camelot to overwrite her shadow territory and again when Kiara defeats her.
    • Ellen has this reaction when Kiara tricks her into slashing Wescott.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Kiara and Kurumi are this to Chaldea. Downplayed in that Kurumi is more motivated by eliminating the First Spirit and would have left well enough alone had the spirit not existed in the first place.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Phantom eventually reveals that almost as soon as they arrived in this world, Ritsuka was critically injured and Phantom saved her life by inserting a Sephira Crystal into her to turn her into a Spirit, then erased their memories. This is also the reason why Ritsuka cannot be Rayshifted home. Ritsuka doesn't take this well.
  • Trapped in Another World:
    • Ritsuka cannot leave the the Date A Live world. She gets worried because this means she cannot fight the remaining Lostbelts and wants to eventually return home.
    • It happens again when Ritsuka and Kurumi abruptly wake up in the Date A Bullet dimension and are forced to fight and make alliances with Quasi-Spirits to survive.
  • Trauma Button: As the group investigates the wreckage of the Fraxinus, they suddenly get swamped by a wave of black sludge that starts spawning monsters. Reminded of Tiamat and her Black Mud, Ritsuka apparently goes mad and Inverts.
  • Undead Tax Exemption: Many of Ritsuka's team quickly get identities and jobs in this world. Scathach becomes a teacher at Shido's school under the alias Ms. Scarlet, Ritsuka becomes an assistant librarian at the same school under her real name, Kiara takes control of a local church, Arturia Alter works at a cafe, Nightingale becomes a nurse at the hospital, and Ishtar and Ereshkigal purchase a mansion with plenty of servants under the aliases Ainu and Izanami Tohsaka. Kotori eventually tracks them down because they have no pasts.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Circe notes that Natsumi's power levels and spells are comparable to her own, but since Natsumi is a child with no combat experience or practice while Circe is a veteran witch, Circe shuts her down easily.
  • Van Helsing Hate Crimes: The AST and DEM hate all Spirits and attack them on sight. When Mana attacks Scathach, she protests that she just saved Shido's life, but Mana says she is still a Spirit and must die. Mana gets better after Nightingale saves her life.
  • Victory by Endurance: Arturia Alter and Inverse Tohka are roughly equal in strength, but Inverse Tohka runs out of energy first and loses.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Servants yell at Kiara for not telling anyone about her plan to infiltrate DEM and for helping DEM kidnap Tohka to force her to Invert.
  • Who Dares?: Arturia Alter says this when Shido shows up to stop her from killing Inverse Tohka.
  • Why Isn't It Attacking?: The AST briefly ask this when they attack Mashu and she simply blocks with her shield instead of fighting. Mana asks this when she attacks Scathach and she fights purely defensively. Both times, they shrug it off and say they have to die for being Spirits.
  • Worthy Opponent: Arturia Alter acknowledges Inverse Tohka after fighting her.
