Date A Bullet (full title Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet) is a spinoff of Date A Live.

An amnesiac girl named Hibiki Higoromo wakes up and encounters Kurumi Tokisaki, who leads her to a school. A group of girls called quasi-spirits gather, leading to a series of battles.

The light novel was first released in March 2017 and so far has 6 volumes. An anime film called Date A Bullet: Dead or Bullet aired on August 14, 2020. A second film called Date A Bullet: Nightmare or Queen aired on November 13, 2020. The films have a slightly altered plot from the novels.

This work features examples of:

  • Ambiguously Gay: Retsumi Jugasaki's relationship with Kareha reaches this level.
  • Blood Knight: Tsuan is described by Kurumi as a battle junkie.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Hibiki Higoromo's Unsigned Angel Killing King has this effect, with the added benefit of sealing the targets's memories as well.
  • Hidden Depths: Tsuan turns out to be a very talented idol, enough to successfully defeat Kurumi once in an idol audition.
  • Morality Chain: Hibiki serves as this for Kurumi to make sure she doesn't go to far. Case in point, Kurumi was considering simply just killing every Quasi-Spirit in the Ninth Region Yesod to move on before Hibiki stopped her.
  • Rank Up: Retsumi takes over as the new Dominion of Hod after Kareha's death.
  • Revenge: Hibiki's main purpose in life was getting revenge on Doll Master for killing her best friend. This is noted in volume 6 where the job for avenger is in her guild card, but crossed out since she has already completed her revenge.
  • Self-Deprecation: Hibiki considers her Gadabout job class in volume 6 to be this.
  • Shoot the Bullet: Kurumi and White Queen fire a special bullet at each other. When they collide, they explode.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The Kurumi in the beginning of Volume 1 is really Hibiki, who had stolen her appearance and powers through her Unsigned Angel.
  • Yandere: Volume 4 outright describes Tsuan as this for Kurumi.
