Tropes applying to the series:

  • Adaptational Alternate Ending: The Avengers: Endgame story: Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff are both Spared by the Adaptation, Steve managed to live both his lives, and, five years after the Keyblade War, the Avengers are stronger than ever as they prepare to take on Galactus.
  • Adaptational Badass: Multiple characters that are outside of the main 10 Guardians of Light (Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Roxas, Xion, Axel/Lea, Ventus, Terra and Aqua) somehow get their own Keyblades:
    • Saix and Demyx got their Keyblades by virtue of having a piece of Xehanort put into them. They retain their Keyblades when they're restored as Isa and Myde, respectively.
      • Sephiroth also got a Keyblade after replacing Saix in the True Organization XIII
    • Namine got her Keyblade simply by being Kairi's Nobody.
    • Some characters accidentally initiated a Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony shortly after Ventus is saved.
      • Minnie is Mickey's successor, as she accidentally touched his Keyblade in the "Epic Mickey" arc.
      • Donald is Vanitas's successor, as he hit Vanitas with his own Keyblade in a rage for almost causing the deaths of his friends in the "Back to the Future Part III" arc.
      • Daisy is Namine's successor, as she grabbed her Keyblade during the battle with Larxene when Namine got disarmed one day earlier.
      • Goofy is Young Xehanort's successor, as he snatched his Keyblade and hit him in the face with it when he was about to kill Mickey earlier that day in Midgar.
      • Max is Riku Replica's successor. Keep in mind that he got it not from Riku Replica himself, but rather from Dark Riku, hitting him with his own weapon, the Soul Eater, after Ventus hit him and disarmed him with Blizzard.
      • Ortensia is Oswald's successor.
    • After the events of Avengers: Endgame, when Xehanort managed to prove himself a greater threat than Thanos, the worlds started choosing multiple Keyblade Wielders in order to stop him.
    • Lingering Will. In the game, he was destroyed hours before Terra's rescue. Here, he is around all the way until Terra is rescued.
    • In all Kung Fu Panda story arcs, several Light-affiliated characters become kung fu masters.
      • In the first arc, Sora, Donald, Goofy and Lea (as Axel). Also Ventus, due to him being in Sora's heart.
      • In the Kung Fu Panda 2 arc, Riku, Kairi and Mickey. Also Roxas, Xion and Namine, due to the former two being in Sora's heart, and the latter in Kairi's.
      • In the Kung Fu Panda 3 arc, Terra, Aqua, Isa, Myde, Minnie, Daisy, Max, Oswald and Ortensia.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Several events happen a lot sooner than in the games: namely, the rescue of the Birth By Sleep trio, as well as Roxas and Namine. Same goes for Saix.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Xion is not a member of the True Organization XIII here. Instead, she joined the Guardians of Light right after her recreaționale. The final cover implies that the Organization's thirteenth is Sora's Heartless.
    • Also, Myde. He never helped the heroes directly in the games, but here, he does.
    • Downplayed with Even/Vexen. In the games, while he is a reserve for The True Organization XIII, he actually works as a Double Agent for Ansem the Wise and Ienzo. Here, he's not affiliated with the Organization at all. Furthermore, in both instances, he helps in bringing Roxas Back from the Dead by using a Replica body, Although this time he also brings one for Namine, and a third one for a reason he couldn't figure out (it turns out this body was for Xion).
    • Shinra Inc. and SOLDIER. Justified since Cloud is a member of it and Rufus Shinra had a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Adapted Out: Zigzagged with Namine being the one who summoned Lingering Will against Terranort. Namine was restored before the gang rescued Aqua from the Realm of Darkness. However, one should keep in mind that, according to Doc Brown, even the smallest change in the past can create an Alternate Universe. (In this case, the change from the games is most likely an encounter between the Wayfinder Trio and Tony Stark during Birth By Sleep.) This means that it may be possible for an alternate version of Namine to have summoned Lingering Will. Then again, how Lingering Will saved Sora and Shang is unknown, so perhaps Lingering Will was simply following the gang from the shadows, eventual being accompanied by Oswald.
  • Author Appeal: J. Tom is a big fan of DuckTales (2017), incorporating characters from said show into his stories as many times as possible.
  • Back from the Dead: This happened to Magica de Spell and Lena. Maleficent also plans to do this with various deceased members of the original Legion of Doom, such as Scar and Jafar. This also happens to some of the heroes at the end of the Avengers Endgame arc, as they died at the end of the Infinity War arc.
  • Badass Army: In order to stop Xehanort and Maleficent's Legion of Doom, the Guardians of Light is gathering people from other worlds with strong lights. Mostly Keyblade Wielders, but Cassim and Iago chose to come with Aladdin and Jasmine to help in the Keyblade War, and there also is the Final Fantasy crew: Cloud, Tifa, Zack, Yuffie, Leon and the entirely of SOLDIER.
  • Been There, Shaped History: It turns out that the Master of Masters gave Kai the idea of stealing other's Chi.
  • Brick Joke: When confronting Ansem in Dream Drop Distance, Riku says his (Riku's) way is "consume the darkness, return it to light". In this fic, not only there are 20 Guardians of Light (the supposed 7 lights + 13, the number of darknesses), but three of them (Myde, Terra and Isa) are former members of Xehanort's Organization.
  • Broad Strokes: The events of DuckTales 2017 are given this here in that while the basic elements such as Della Duck's arc, the Moonlanders arc, FOWL arc, and characterizations of Donald, Scrooge, nephews, and characters exclusive to the 1987 and 2017 versions are the same as that show's canon, details such as the relationship of the nephews, Webby, Lena, and Violet (being romances of Huey/Violet, Dewey/Webby, and Louie/Lena), Darkwing Duck, April, May, & June, and Daisy and Donald's backstory (having known each other since childhood rather than meeting for the first time in season 3) are changed to match up with Kingdom Hearts continuity or author preference.
  • The Bus Came Back: Sora returns to multiple worlds that are not visited again after Kingdom Hearts II. Such worlds include: Pride Lands, Beast's Castle, The Land of Dragons and Agrabah. This is also the case for the Birth By Sleep trio and the Castle of Dreams. Furthermore, due to Zira and Morgana being part of Maleficent's Legion of Doom, Sora will return to Pride Lands and Atlantica.
  • Crossover: Between Kingdom Hearts and various Disney and non-Disney franchises.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: After the rescue of the Birth By Sleep trio, Lena, who is an example of this trope, is helping Aqua to understand this trope.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In the Back to the Future Part II arc, this happens to Biff-A. In the film, it is stated By Word of God that he was shot by Lorraine-A. Here, Biff-A was so consumed by the darkness in his heart, that slaying his Heartless ended up killing him.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The reason Mortimer does not appear in the games? He was exiled after he wouldn't stop hitting on Minnie, even after the latter married Mickey.
  • Downer Ending: As from its source material, Kingdom Hearts: Infinity War ends with Thanos successfully claiming all six Infinity Stones, snapping his fingers, and wiping out half of all life in the universe, achieving his goals. Among the casualties are many of Sora's friends, including Riku, Kairi, Daisy, Minnie, Goofy, and Mickey, leaving whoever survived, including Sora, utterly devastated. Even the heroes' relatives are not spared from being snapped out of existence, all while Master Xehanort congratulates Thanos for defeating the heroes.
James Rhodes: What is this? What the hell is happening?
    Steve Rogers: Oh, God...
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After the 5-month time-skip of the Avengers Endgame arc, there's a scene where Donald is drowning his sorrow over losing some of his best friends, drinking beer and binging on pizza.
  • Everybody Loves Zeus: Played With. As it turns out, a different world means a different Zeus, so it depends on which Zeus you're talking about. It's played straight with the Zeus from Hercules and averted with the Zeus from DuckTales (2017), as per the canon of each.
  • Evil Counterpart: In-depth analysis of the first Kung Fu Panda arc makes Tai Lung be one to Terra. Both of them are prodigious students of a master that treated them like a son (Shifu for Tai Lung, Eraqus for Terra) and prepared them for greatness (being the Dragon Warrior for Tai Lung, being a Keyblade Master for Terra), and both of them, when denied that greatness because of the darkness in their hearts, caught Xehanort's attention. However, Tai Lung becomes obsessed with the Dragon Scroll and refuses the chance at redemption Shifu gave him, while Terra only succumbed to the darkness because Xehanort and Vanitas tried to hurt Aqua and Ventus, and wants to "set this right".
  • Eviler than Thou: The True Organization XIII pulls one to Thanos, after the latter decides to destroy the universe.
  • Foreshadowing: In the Epic Mickey arc, Namine asked for the Daisy Sorbet. Come the "Rescue of the Wielders" arc, and Daisy becomes Namine's successor.
  • The Ghost: Max's girlfriend, Roxanne, and Oswald and Ortensia's children, are mentioned, but do not appear.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: There are instances when someone from Sora's gang notices that a character from a world they visit sounds like another character from movies and TV shows they are watching. The first instance is in the Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas arc, when Sora and Kairi note that Angelique sounds like Rita. The "leaning on the forth wall" thing comes from the fact the characters Sora's gang is talking about have the same voice actor: to continue the example, Angelique, Rita are all voiced by Bernadette Peters.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Demyx's Somebody, who is named Myde here.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sora, of all people, at the beginning of the Avengers Endgame arc, is shown to be very shaken after the events of Infinity War, and when Tony Stark and Steve Rogers got into a huge fight, he has a huge outburst of rage and scolds the Avengers for their stupid mistakes, which caused them to split up and the heroes' defeat against Thanos, shocking everyone and even literally ripping a table off the ground and throwing it out a window. Even Thor and Nebula felt unease, while Donald was scared in witnessing this outburst, even though he was that angry just shortly before that, and Sora's words about Steve "sparing Tony from the truth" for not telling him about Bucky's involvement in Howard and Maria's deaths made him flinch because he and Scrooge did something like that themselves about Della's fate, hiding everything about her from Huey, Dewey and Louie.
  • Patchwork Fic: The DuckTales cast is from a combination of the 1987 and 2017 canons. From the 1987 canon, we have Webby being Bentina Beakley's granddaughter, and from the 2017 canon, we have Della's story, as well as Lena and Violet's presence.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Sora's friends stand up for him when, even after Sora used the Power of Waking to defeat the Shadow Blot Heartless, Yen Sid refuses to name Sora a Keyblade Master. Yen Sid finally gave Sora the title at his friends' insistence.
    • Shortly after his rescue, Terra was named a Keyblade Master, fulfilling his and Aqua's dream.
  • Redemption Promotion: Myde is more competent as a Guardian of Light than as a Seeker of Darkness.
  • Reduced to Dust: Just like the characters who canonically turned to dust after Thanos' Badass Fingersnap, characters from Kingdom Hearts and the Disney/Non-Disney properties from the games and this series die from it. Characters include:
    • Kingdom Hearts:
      • Riku (and Riku Replica)

  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: As the Avengers Endgame arc begins, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers get in a huge fight and it's Sora of all people, in a fit of rage, who chews out the remaining Avengers for letting their beliefs blind their thought of the consequences of their actions.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Multiple ones.
  • Shout-Out: At one point, Reno calls Xemnas "Mansex", a memetic Fan Nickname resulting from scrambling Xemnas' name.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Since Midgar is made out of Fridge Brilliance, this is the case for Zack and Aerith.
    • Tony Stark survives the final battle against 2014!Thanos, as Sora was the one who used the past Infinity Stones to kill Thanos's army.
    • Natasha Romanoff survives the trip to claim the Soul Stone, as Nebula gave the idea of having Natasha and Clint travel back to 2018 to retrieve said Stone from Thanos alongside Aqua, Pepper Pots, and Carol Danvers.
  • Trauma Button: Anything regarding Thanos leaves Sora shaken inside out, after several of his friends, including Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Goofy, Terra, Xion, Naminé and Lea die because of Thanos' snap.
  • True Companions: The Guardians of Light see themselves as a family.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Webby is not April. Also, April, May and June are not clones of Scrooge.
  • Villain Respect: Xehanort gives Sora and his team the Infinity Stones after killing Thanos for attempting to destroy the universe.
  • Villain Team-Up: Xehanort teams up with Maleficent to further each other's goals. He also teams up with various villains that are not part of Maleficent's Legion of Doom, but he warns them not to backstab him. He makes good of his warning against Thanos.
