Since the beginning of time, the forces of Order and Chaos having been playing a long game for the fate of the Omniverse, the sum total of every Universe both "real" and "unreal".
In some Universes, the game erupts into all out war. In others, it's little more than a friendly competition. Sometimes the pendulum swings in Order's favor, then in Chaos', then right back around again. Ultimately though, neither side has ever been able to actually win the game.
Which is just as well, because if either side were to completely eradicate the other, the game would end. And the game... is existence itself.
The Spectacular Omniverse as the name implies, began as a spin-off of The Spectacular Gargoyles roleplaying community on the question-asking site Formspring.
Thanks to a collaboration between Thomeheb, Dr. Anton Sevarius, The Terrible Tinkerer, and Prospero all of which was ultimately orchestrated by The Light from behind the scenes, a "Trans-Universal Gateway" was opened in October 2011 that allowed the various ethics-deficient scientists to access other Universes in order to steal technology and genetic material.
However, what they discovered was far greater than they bargained for: a vibrant cosmos teeming with life; the life of every single story that has ever been told, both fictional and nonfictional. From Discworld to The Legend of Zelda to Digimon to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, there appears to be few if any limits as to the worlds accessible by the Gateway.
The roleplay used to span dozens of connected Universes, each with their own casts of heroes and villains. Unfortunately, pretty much all of it has been lost ever since Formsping went bankrupt and was re-acquired by OK Cupid, which wiped all of the pre-existing accounts to start anew. Even at its peak, the narrative was scattered between dozens of Formspring accounts, leaving this wiki as the only coherent record of the story for the outsiders.
Provides Examples Of:
- All Stories Are Real Somewhere: The central conceipt of the RP. Essentially, every single story told on Earth-0 (i.e. the world on which the players live) creates a new Universe. Every single one. Books, films, television shows, video games, fanfiction, bedtime stories... all of it is real somewhere.
- God Needs Prayer Badly: However, they won't automatically stay that way without "Watchers" (i.e. fans) supporting the stories on Earth-0. A story that loses its popularity becomes dangerously vulnerable to the man in white.
- Although Reepicheep has recently indicated that it's far more complicated than that.
- God Needs Prayer Badly: However, they won't automatically stay that way without "Watchers" (i.e. fans) supporting the stories on Earth-0. A story that loses its popularity becomes dangerously vulnerable to the man in white.
- Animated Actors: For the post part, Worlds based on video games seem to operate under the rules of Wreck-It Ralph, with characters aware of their status as game characters and acting accordingly. However, this "Meta-Awareness" is not omniversal, the explanation being that Lords of Order for Worlds with particularly nasty villains (such as The Legend of Zelda or Video Game/Metroid) would prefer that said Big Bads stay as ignorant of the players as possible.
- Unfortunately, this plan doesn't preclude other individuals from telling them just that...
- Anyone Can Die: Plot Armor only goes so far when one of the Big Bads eats Universes as casually as most people drink tea. Casualties so far include Marcus Daimon, a number of unfortunate Pokémon, and the entire Universe of American Dragon: Jake Long.
- Darker and Edgier: Given the extreme Fantasy Kitchen Sink involved, many worlds are Played for Drama far more extensively than they tend to be in their respective canons. While the comedy does not disappear from any of them, it gets pretty amusing when everyone from Darkwing Duck to Mario to The Powerpuff Girls are involved in combatting the End of the World as We Know It.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Princess Celestia and Princess Luna first showed up in passing long before their accounts did, as subjects of silent observation for the Auditors. Unsurprisingly, they do not approve of what they see.Auditor: If they wish to study this "friendship" phenomenon, why do they not simply disassemble one of the smaller equines into their component particles and examine the molecular structure?
- Encyclopedia Exposita: The Auditors' dossiers on the various Lords of Order they have observed. Given the Auditors'... unique take on things, they can be a pretty engrossing read.
- Enemy Mine: Arguably the ongoing collaboration between Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Dr. Wily... although to be fair, Eggman and Wily have been going to Bad-Anon for a while now.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: The world the players exist on is designated Earth-0...which, yes, is entirely part of the Omniverse. If it goes, so do we.
- Exaggerated with the man in white, who is entirely aware of the fact that he is an RP character, and indeed often addresses his player directly as his "Voice." According to him, it's the man that controls the player... not the other way around.
- Legion of Doom: Tash is putting one together of malevolent Lords of Chaos, which the man in white has chosen to nickname his "Chaos Posse."
- Several of those Lords in turn have put together some smaller ones, Millenniummon and Demise chief among them. And of course, Klarion the Witch Boy is already in one.
- Order Versus Chaos: As the opening quote implies and in keeping with its origins, one of the overall themes of the RP is that neither Order or Chaos have a monopoly on good or evil. The Lords of Order range from benign Multiversal Guardians to outright Omnicidal Maniacs. Likewise the Lords of Chaos range from unspeakable Eldritch Abominations hellbent on spreading destruction and madness wherever they tread, to (mostly) harmless pranksters who just want to "liven up" their home Universes.
- Shout-Out: Honestly, it's probably easier to list what hasn't been referenced at some point or another. In addition to what's been depicted directly, throwaway references have been made to everything from Magic: The Gathering to Mass Effect to The Neverending Story.
- Villainous Breakdown: The Man in White had a pretty damn epic one immediately after losing his best chance yet to devour the World of The Spectacular Gargoyles.

The "True Lords of Order":
The Man in White
- I Have Many Names: When asked about him, The Auditors state that he's been variously known as the Light of Ruin, The Nothing, Nowheremon, Tabuu, the Void, the Edge, the All-Encompassing. The Harvester, the Never-Was and the man in white.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: See I Have Many Names entry above.
- Omnicidal Maniac: The Auditors believe that he's devoured trillions of universes at the very least. In his own words:
The Auditors of Reality
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: When asked about the Celestial Digimon, The Auditors state that Ophanimon's title as the Guardian of Life and Love already disqualifies it from being an ally, simply because love is "an intangible insanity so repulsive we can barely move to articulate it".
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: They intend to pull this on The Man in White once he's done devouring the "infected" planes, believing that he's "far too burdened with personality and individuality to have a permanent place in an Omniverse of True Order".

Lords of Chaos:
The Lords of Chaos are (unsurprisingly) a rather diverse and eclectic bunch. Some are Eldritch Abominations hellbent on tearing all creation down around them, others are little more than (mostly) harmless pranksters and yet others are legitimate forces for good in their home universes. Chaos embodies Freedom and Imagination just as much as it does Madness and Destruction.
The Chaos Posse:
Recently, the former Calormen God and Narnian Lord of Chaos, Tash, has begun organizing some of the more malevolent Lords of Chaos into an unholy alliance affectionately known as the "Chaos Posse".Tash the Inexorable and Irresistible

This section lists the characters from that universe that became newly relevant to the Omniverse:
Thomeheb:
- Alternate Universe: Thomeheb, thanks to his Gateway, has just been utilizing every possible trope related to this. Also implied that he's not from the Universe you think he is.
- Manipulative Bastard: The way he sweet talked the Animorphs in order to steal their technology and imprison them in order to try and extract the morphing ability from them. They were attempting to play him too, but he was better at it.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His collaboration with Demona, as bad as its intended results were, very nearly got Universe-2196169498 devoured by the man in white. He remains unaware of just how close they came to total annihilation.
- He is, however, aware of the other side-effect of leaving the Gateway wide open: letting in armies of The Heartless. This scared him enough to induce a partial Heel Realization.
The Tinkerer/Phineas Mason:
An inventor for hire and responsible for creating Thomeheb's Trans-Universal Gateway in the first place.Dr. Anton Sevarius:
A geneticist for hire, he analyzes genetic material extracted from out-of-Universe subjects. And, more often than common sense would probably dictate... clones them.- Which doesn't prevent them from getting destroyed. A lot.
Prospero:
A sorcerer for hire, using the Gateway to search for mystical artifacts.- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: The sorcerer Prospero is implied to be THE John Dee, the man Shakespeare modeled Prospero after when he wrote The Tempest.
Trans-Universal Cyber-Automated Probe/TUCAP:
A probe designed to extract technology for the good Doctors. A zap from Will Vandom's Quintessence, however, granted it sentience.- Legacy Character: Currently, we're on Unit 16.0, thanks to...
- Stuff Blowing Up: Tends to happen depressingly often to the TUCAP probes. The current mode is understandably a tad... ticked at the Doctors' callousness to its plight.

Cornelia Hale:
The Earth Guardian, Cornelia is from a wealthy family and is easily one of the most popular girls at school.- Annoying Younger Sibling: Has one in the form of Lillian.
- Lovable Alpha Bitch: She uses her "powers" for good, and not just her earth ones...
- Power Grows Your Hair: She has long blond hair in human form, but it grows out so that it almost reaches the floor in Guardian form.
Hay Lin:
The Air Guardian, Hay Lin is a bit of an airhead. She enjoys art and comic books. Her family manages the Silver Dragon restaurant.- Asian Airhead: Subverted. Someone had to say it.
- Catchphrase: "Yap!", "Spacious!", "Out of this world"
- Full-Name Basis: Lin is actually her family name.
Other Characters:
Blunk
A "passling" (a smelly, goblin-like creature with the uncanny ability to sniff out portals between worlds) native to Meritian. He's a smuggler by trade, though he prefers being called a "trader" or "businessman."- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Usually he's not much use in a fight, but he's surprisingly resourceful when he needs to be, and on occasion even gets a genuine badass moment."Blunk not scavenger — Blunk warrior!"

The leader of the rebels and Cornelia's boyfriend.- Fish out of Water: Has trouble adjusting to Earth in both formats, though he gets better.

The former Quintessence Guardian. She attempts to rule the world by defeating Phobos and the Guardians.- Anti-Villain: Subverted; much like Demona, she likes to think she's a Type III, but the other characters aren't buying it.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: She is Caleb's mother.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: She wants to create a peaceful and ordered universe - and because she's a megalomaniac, she sees conquering the whole thing as the best way to do this.
Prince Phobos
The evil prince of Meridian.- Evil Overlord: What he used to be.
- Sorcerous Overlord: He's not as powerful as Elyon, but all Meridian royalty are implied to have very potent magical powers, and he's still stronger than all the season 1 Guardians combined.
- Kick the Dog: Let's just say the he does this a lot.
- Meaningful Name: His name means fear and is also the name of the Greek god of fear.
