  • Ax-Crazy: Being a doll-themed serial killer doesn’t really help Azami win the title of “Most Stable Student”.

  • Creepy Child: Even beyond the odd lolita clothing, Azami is completely strange. I mean, he licked a dead body. And again, serial killer shenanigans.

  • Token Mini-Moe: Shortest of the cast, barely beating out Kayda for the title. He’s pretty moe too, with big eyes and cute lolita style clothing.

  • Cute and Psycho: Well, if the childish speaking manner and gruesome murder plans say anything...

  • Living Doll Collector: He killed over thirty children when he was ten and turned them into dolls, taking inspiration from his own serial killer mother.

  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: After the fucked up shit he’s done, practically everything Azami does is horrifying to some degree.

  • Sweet Tooth: Loves sweet food, hates spicy food.

  • Asshole Victim: He went through years of torture, abuse, and general trauma. Still doesn’t erase the fact that he’s a killer who relishes in the act of murder.

  • Twincest: Made a joke to Kayda about how if nobody would date him, he would date his twin brother.

  • Card-Carrying Villain: He’s an unrepentant serial killer. And he doesn’t regret a single bit of it.

  • Color Motif: Cream.

  • Costume Porn: He wears a weird lolita outfit. Slightly creepier when you realise how doll-like Azami is described as looking.

  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Decided to kill Eri Inamura for fun, right after convincing Hikari Itou to kill Tomomi Ogura. Why? Because he was bored, duh.

  • Everyone Has Standards: Doesn’t want to kill Kayda or Masami, despite them being his number 1 rivals in the school. Masami, because he’s “so gloomy that killing him would be a favour”, and Kayda because “seeing her suffer is fun”.

  • Evil Gloating: In the Chapter 3 trial. He managed to kill practically three people in one hit and not get executed. And Azami loves to remind others of this.

  • Foreshadowing: After Tomomi’s body is discovered, Azami automatically asks about what would happen if a second body was discovered. He’s talking about Eri.

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Amplified after Chapter 3— since he’s revealed as a crazy serial killer— but even before that, his only real friend was Hikari. Azami was busy making enemies with everybody else.

  • Giggling Villain: Talks like it too. He often adds “-sies” to the end of words and will giggle and laugh cheerfully at practically every occasion.

  • Hate Sink: Sympathetic backstory aside, he still forced a murder and then committed one of his own, all with evil glee. He’s not really the most likeable person in the cast.

  • Guyliner: Azami has big eyes, and even bigger lashes.

  • Hypocrite: Every time that Azami criticises someone else for being mean... as if he’s not a brutal serial killer.

  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Azami’s open about his love of fashion and nails, even discussing it with Kayda whilst fighting her in Chapter 3. He even likes to practice making clothing.

  • Kick the Dog: God, it’s practically Azami’s whole gig. From mind-breaking Hikari in the Chapter 3 trial with despair and talking about her horrid backstory, to absolutely wrecking Kayda by talking about Eri’s murder— and his desire to kill Clem too— as well as driving Masami to a mental breakdown in Chapter 2, he’s all over it. And the Chapter 3 murder plan had this trope written all over it too, what with trying to frame Jakob and Shino, then Eri— who he murdered in cold blood. Then how Azami relished in the fact that he got away with Eri’s murder, to everyone’s chagrin.

  • Ambiguous Disorder: Apart from his implied craziness, existing within the realm of serial-killing and taunting others for the deaths of their loved ones, Azami has some form of a multiple personality disorder, what with his ‘rabid demon’ personality, ‘gloomy and arrogant’ personality, and ‘cheerful sadist’ personality. But then again, he is an actor.

  • Nightmare Fetishist: He’ll go on long monologues full of disturbed glee over the murders and monstrosities that he’s committed. Alongside this, he starts to have fun discovering the body in Chapter 4, and enjoys the executions. In general, Azami loves death to a legitimately horrifying degree.

  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Azami switched from a gloomy, withdrawn, and arrogant little brat to an overly cheerful, childish, and cutesy little boy. Even in the Chapter 3 trial, he was much more happier.

  • Recurring Element: A twisted serial killer with vaguely incesty undertones...

  • Serial Killer: When Azami was only a primary school student, he started murdering his classmates, turning their corpses into dolls, and made a dollhouse out of them. It’s implied that he got the inspiration from his mother, who was also a child-killing serial killer and toy maker.

  • Shipper on Deck: Weirdly inverted, averted, right on track. He makes constant comments about Kayda’s “lesbian harem” and how all the girls she likes tend to die. Sib, Hikari, Eri...

  • Token Evil Teammate: Even worse when Azami is still happily alive. I mean, the others are basically living with a murderous child who openly talks about how he would kill each one of them given the opportunity.

  • Verbal Tic: He adds “-sies” to end of a lot of words. (Byesies, nightsies, wellsies, bedsies, etc)

  • Villain Respect: A warped version. He respects Hikari for being so easy to manipulate, but at least dedicated to her friends.

  • Villainous Incest: Very minor, but he makes a few jokes about dating his brother.

  • Would Hit a Girl: Happily. He gets into multiple brutal fights with Kayda, trying to maul her, or pull out her hair. Plus, he killed a girl by dismembering her, so there’s that.

  • Jerkass: A prime example. He’s openly antagonistic and has fun being mean to the others.

  • Manipulative Bastard: Yeah, considering what he did to Hikari... manipulating her into killing someone and being executed for it, alongside screwing up the poison she used so that Tomomi would die a gruesome death, Azami fits into this trope pretty well.

  • I Love the Dead: A low-key necrophile who likes licking bodies.

  • Beneath the Mask: Azami is much more disturbed and twisted than what he lets on. There’s a lot of masks, too— beneath his brat mask is the serial killer, beneath that is a scared little boy... and beneath that, what?

  • The Bully: A general asshole to the other students, and has fun doing it.

  • Bullying a Dragon: Is openly an asshole to Kayda and Masami, both of whom can probably wipe the floor with him.

  • Cheshire Cat Grin: It’s implied, with how Azami is described to sometimes have creepy smiles on his face.

  • Clothing Reflects Personality: The doll-themed clothing is reflective of his doll-themed killings.

  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Just doesn’t understand Kayda’s optimism and finds it frustrating.

  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: For such a cute little boy, Azami is horrifically warped and disturbed.

  • The Gadfly: Loves mocking Kayda over the death of her “girlfriends”.

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Mostly joked about. Azami is supposedly jealous of the fact that Kayda is so popular, and as such tries to kill off her harem.

  • Ship Tease: Kayda mocks Azami over Hikari being his “girlfriend”. Azami fires back that he’s gay and fourteen.

  • Catchphrase: “I’m gay and fourteen!” His excuse for a lot of things, to be honest.

  • Jerkass Has a Point: Has called out Masami and Kayda multiple times— Masami for his aggression and hypocrisy, Kayda for her sometimes blinding optimism and ignorance.

  • Never Speak Ill of the Dead: Averted. Azami openly talks shit about Hikari and Eri.

  • Plot Armor: Inverted, because everybody is trying to kill him. In the earlier chapters and prior to his personality change, Azami was consistently getting beaten up by the others, particularly Masami and Kayda.

  • Red Herring: Kayda thinks that Azami is the Mastermind, and often accuses him as such. He also ends up framed in a few trials, particularly the second.

  • The Rival: To Kayda, and to a minor degree, Reo, over their similar talents and what happened in the second trial.

  • Sanity Slippage: God, as if he has any in the first place. During the third trial, Azami goes completely off the rails. He completely indulges in despair, laughing like crazy and enjoying Kayda’s despair, as well as Hikari’s breakdown and execution.

  • Shoot the Dog: With Hikari. Manipulated her into killing someone, just so that he would have an excuse to kill Eri scot free. And just for fun, too.

  • Shorter Means Smarter: He’s the tiniest, and an evil genius.

  • Stepford Smiler: Even when being mocked by the others or put through perilous things, Azami’s smiling. Probably because he’s an actor.

  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Azami is a remorseless killer, and won’t even bother covering it up or pleading for forgiveness.

  • Tiny Schoolboy: He’s fourteen in a cast of seventeen year olds, as well as the shortest of the cast.

  • Trademark Favorite Food: Likes sweet foods.

  • Troll: Has way too much fun just mocking the others, from fake-killing Clem right in front of Kayda— just after the third trial— and constantly makes mean and cruel jokes about the others.

  • What the Hell, Hero?: Will often call Kayda out for being optimistic to an unpleasant point, and will be brutally honest about her flaws.

  • Beneath Suspicion: A lot of the time, Azami is excused from crimes because he’s just too likely. During the second trial, a few characters point out how obvious it would be for the Ultimate Actor to be the killer in an acting-themed murder.

  • Expy: Of Kotoko Utsugi. Both are child actors with a love for ‘aborbs’ things, and on the more darker side, both were sexually abused, and ended up as serial killers.

  • Abusive Parents: His mother was a serial killer, and his uncle, though not often talked about, was implied to be sexually abusive.

  • Child Prodigy: He’s 14, but Azami is in a class of 17-year-olds. Plus, he’s an award-winning actor.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: He became a serial killer at 10, and grew up with a disturbed serial killer mother. Azami experienced years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, ending up as a warped and insane little kid.

  • Enfant Terrible: A middle-schooler who’s also a serial killer with basically no morals.

  • Karma Houdini: It’s basically one of Azami’s talents. He killed Eri in a gruesome way, and got away with it thanks to Hikari’s murder being discovered first.

  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Most 14-year-olds aren’t dismembering other kids and planning murders.

  • Cuteness Proximity: Loves cute things and will fawn over them happily... even if said cute things turn out to be dismembered body parts.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: Kayda, Sib, and Shino all fit into this trope.
  • The Alibi: Is used multiple times during the murder investigations and trials.
    • One example is during chapter three when Hikari and Azami claim to be taking photos of each other during the murders. However, this is disproven due to the large time between photos during the times of the murders when the cast decides to check them more deeply. This realization is one of the ways they figure out that they were actually the killers.
  • Clear My Name: Happens all the time during trials. To name a few, there is Masami, Azami, Shino, and Jakob.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: This is a Danganronpa roleplay after all.
    • Sib's execution. She gets chomped on by a giant Monokuma after being tricked that she could actually defeat it.
    • Reo's execution. He gets stampeded by an entire room of Monokumas.
    • Both of the victims of chapter three. Tomomi gets painfully poisoned while Eri gets dismembered.
    • Hikari's execution. She gets tortured by the Monokumas, including having her organs tore out of her while still alive, and dies of blood loss and presumably shock.
  • Dark Secret: Some of the students have one. The most important are Kirin actually being Reo, Azami turning out to be a serial killer, and Hikari doing black market work with her art.
  • Despair Event Horizon: What happens to Hikari after the events of the third trial. Azami betraying her, only using her as a tool and admitting it out loud, and Kayda dismissing her, causes her to fall into despair and not be able to come back. Being executed is almost a mercy for her.
  • Love Hurts: It almost seems like Kayda lives to suffer. She has a ship teases with Sib, Eri, and Hikari, and all of them die.
  • Out of Focus: Due to some people dropping the roleplay or barely being on, their character never gets the spotlight.
  • Official Couple: Jakob and Shino become this following Jakob's confession in Chapter 5.
  • Ship Tease: Kayda seems to get ship teases with Sib, Eri, and Hikari.
    • Shino and Jakob get a lot as well.
