Humans

    Humanity (in general)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_001150.png

The heroes of the story. Outnumbered, outgunned, outmatched and often times, outwitted by the Natural Enemies. To say that are underdogs would be an understatement, at least at the start of the story. Hailing from 13 separate realities where humanity is on the brink of extinction, they have banded together in a desperate attempt to survive.

  • Always a Bigger Fish: And there are 13 different types of bigger fish in this case. On their own, the 13 different versions of humanity aren't weak by any means. The humans of the Giants' World and the Magic Forces World seem physically capable and those of the Machine Rule World and Cosmic Devil World have advanced weapons light years ahead of everyone else. It's just that they had the misfortune of existing in a world where all of those advantages are dwarfed by the strength of their Natural Enemies.
  • Batman Gambit: What the plan to deal with all the 13 types of Natural Enemies ultimately is. They hope that by playing to each one's specific attitude, fights will break out between Natural Enemies and result in them destroying each other and not humanity.
  • Being Human Sucks: Humanity in this story are at best incredibly weak prey or canon fodder for the stronger Natural Enemies out there.
  • Despair Event Horizon: All of humanity in every alternate world realized they had zero chance of beating the Natural Enemy of their worlds and were forced to rely on the help of another world, only to find out the world they requested help from were also on the brink of extinction from their own Natural Enemy.
  • Fish out of Water: Due to how radically different some of the worlds are, some humans have to have what would be basic concepts in other worlds explained to them.
  • Guile Hero: By necessity, all of the heroes need to be this since they stand no chance at defeating the Natural Enemies by themselves and must manipulate them into fighting each other.
    Hallow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_26_194235.jpg
World of origin: Magic Forces World
One of the main representatives of the Magic Forces World. He's one of the first characters introduced and the first POV character. Determined and selfless, he's the one who proposes the plan to redirect the aggression of the Natural Enemies against each other.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses his right arm in the first chapter fighting (read: narrowly avoiding getting murdered by) Demon King Jachi.
  • The Chosen Many: One of 47 heroes that was selected to free the humans from the yoke of demon oppression. It didn't go very well for him or any of the other 46 heroes for that matter.
  • Determinator: Despite losing a battle to a Demon King along with an arm and witnessing for himself the sheer gap in their strengths, Hallow does not give up the fight against the Demons and the other Natural Enemies. It's this aspect of his personality that inspires Alio into fighting again.
  • Guile Hero: He's the one who proposes the plan to get the Natural Enemies to destroy each other.
  • The Heart: Is shaping up to be this for the human side. In the first chapter, Alio states that his best quality is his strength of heart and in the desperate struggle for survival that humanity as a whole finds itself in, that's incredibly valuable.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Hallow is truly strong, showing far better results against a Natural Enemy than any other human, but his inability to fight the stronger Natural Enemies causes Hallow to put himself down a lot.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's incredibly eager to fight for humanity's sake in spite of the fact that he's incredibly injured. He has to be calmed down by his friends in order to rest.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Hallow took a direct hit blocking a giant’s attack and while it did some damage, his arm wasn’t broken and could heal. Meanwhile. Braginte, a human from the Giants’ World who is very large and muscular, could not block a giant’s attack without it breaking his arm to the point his bone was sticking out of his wrist.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The first time he fought Kiva, he was reeling from the hopeless despair he felt upon fighting Jachi and was too scared of demons to bring out the full power of his holy sword for long. During their rematch after Hallow recovered mentally, however, Hallow easily defends against Kiva’s attacks and trounces the demon to the point he runs and sics the whole demon army on Hallow.

    Zaybi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_26_200305.jpg
World of origin: Magic Forces World
One of the main representatives of the Magic Forces World. The older brother of Hallow, he's a mage and more level-headed than Hallow.
  • The Alliance: Is the one who gathers all the representatives of humanity from all the different worlds together and gets them to agree to the plan to pit all their enemies against each other.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction upon realising that the humanity he summoned from another world was in no better a position than they were in.
  • The Trickster: Shows some shades of this and really, humanity as a whole kind of has to be this if they have any hope of survival. By getting all the (male) representatives of the different humanities to fight over who has the more difficult Enemy, he proves that the plan to pit them against each other has some merit in spite of how risky it is.

    Alio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_27_155841.png
World of origin: Magic Forces World
One of 47 heroes from the Magic Forces World. Close friends with Hallow, with the two of them making a promise together at the start of the story to defeat their respective Demon Kings.
  • Beneath the Mask: He presents himself as a great and brave hero but he's actually far more cowardly than Hallow, running away from a Demon King. This tears him apart on the inside and leads to him being on the verge of giving up entirely until Hallow gives him some encouragement.
  • The Casanova: From Hallow, we learn that he tends to chat up women and he's seen trying to charm Kayla. Too bad it doesn't take.
  • Cowardly Lion: He ran away upon catching a glimpse of the Demon King he was supposed to defeat, abandoning his party members and the humans captured. He's incredibly ashamed by this and resolves to do better upon seeing that Hallow has not yet given up, volunteering for the immensely dangerous mission of leading the giants away from the human base.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: He doesn't even make a dent in the numbers of the Neo Humans but considering that the gulf in power between him and even just a regular Neo Human, the fact that he could even affect one of them along with some of the giants with his final attack is commendable and leagues more impressive than what humanity has displayed so far.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Fusing with his fairy gives him the power to harm the Giants and New Humans he was powerless against before but the technique is a last resort that can possibly kill him.
  • Sole Survivor: Out of all the humans sent on the mission to distract the giants, he's the only one to survive but as a prisoner of the New Humans where he will be tortured as one of their toys.

    Kayla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_26_201325.jpg
World of origin: Machine Rule World
One of the main representatives of the Machine Rule World. A captain of the resistance against machines in her world. No-nonsense and serious.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Battle-scarred, broad-shouldered, and muscular, but has Alio flirting with her very quickly and a number of shots dedicated to showing off her body, particularly while exercising.
  • The Comically Serious: Perhaps it comes from with living in a world where humanity had to always fight for survival, but she doesn't seem to understand social cues very well if her reaction to being given a flower by Alio is any indication.
  • The Squadette: The only definitely-female soldier of Machine Rule we've seen so far, though there's no indication that her position is abnormal.
  • Super-Soldier: ONE's notes describe her as boasting superhumanly enhanced artificial muscles, and she shows them off a few times. At one point, we see that her standard morning exercise includes pushups where she lifts her entire body off the ground in a handstand with one arm.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: Has the classic X-shaped scar right across her cheek, and is one of the lead protagonists.

    Pakka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_142706.png
World of origin: Giants' World
One of the main representatives of the Giants' World. Temperamental and prone to violence, he's initially skeptical about the plan to redirect the attention of the Natural Enemies.
  • Dope Slap: Regularly on the receiving end of one from Samoun when Pakka is acting up.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Is provoked by Zaybi fairly easily and also threatens him physically when something he says upsets him.
  • Heroic Build: Has one. Too bad that, to the Giants and basically any other of the Natural Enemies, it means basically nothing.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Like Hallow, Pakka hates his weakness most of all, being stronger than most of humanity but still unable to defeat the Giants or any other Natural Enemy on his own.
  • Suicidal Overconfidence: Upon first hearing of the giants' advancing on their base, he wants to make ready to fight them directly. This is a terrible idea. ONE’s notes reveal he fought the Giants when he was younger thanks to his misplaced confidence but was immediately humbled.

    Bastz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_02_28_203003.png
World of origin: Cursed Destruction World/The Cursed Lands
The main representative of the Cursed Destruction World/The Cursed Lands. Always seen wearing a gas mask with some kind of full body suit.
  • Dissonant Serenity: He is eerily calm, entranced even, at the sight of the battle between the demons and aliens. Mind you, even a stray shot from said battle could kill him instantly.
  • Gallows Humor: Despite the hopeless situation in both his and the new world he finds himself in, he is at times seen laughing.
  • Soul Power: Bastz owns ancient technology from his world that can use souls as energy to power them, although a single demon’s soul barely lets them escape the battlefield.

    Old Man Gio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_02_29_134724.png
World of origin: Lawless World/Land of the Lawless
One of the main representatives of the Cursed Lawless World/Land of the Lawless.
  • Cassandra Truth: Potentially as of Chapter 13. He tries to warn the other humans about the danger that the Lawless Humans pose but they dismiss it as being better than their current situation. Keep in mind, Gio has at least seen the strength of the demons and the aliens at this point and is still afraid of the Lawless Humans. Partially justified as the current situation for humanity in chapter 13 really was that bad as they were under siege by two Natural Enemies so the threat of the Lawless Humans really might have been a godsend in comparison.

Natural Enemy

    Natural Enemies (in general)
  • Always Chaotic Evil: So far, every Natural Enemy shown has displayed utter hostility towards mankind and either desires to make them their playthings or outright wipe them out.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: While the heroes have better chances against the lower members of their Natural Enemies, they soon find out how hopeless it is to fight back when they encounter a Natural Enemy who is higher up in the hierarchy.
  • Invincible Villain: On their own worlds, they're the apex menaces that mankind is powerless to defeat. Even humans from other worlds cannot defeat the higher ranked Natural Enemies. However, when Natural Enemies are pitted against other Natural Enemies, the odds are far more even.
  • Master Race: In their respective worlds, they were at the top of the food chain and could not be beaten despite mankind throwing everything they had at them.

    Demons
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_001537.png
World of origin: Magic Forces World/Sorcerion
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Magic Forces World. They seem to function under a monarchy with 47 Demon Kings that all answer to one Great Demon King commanding numerous lesser demons.
  • Healing Factor: Demons have a very potent one where they can regenerate from most damage so long as they get an injection of mana from an outside source.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The higher up the chain of demon command you go, the stronger the demon gets with the Demon Kings being virtually untouchable by humans.
  • Red Shirt Army: The 47 Demon Kings have a massive army of lesser monsters under their command, and while they themselves boast great physical and magical prowess, most of their minions are rather easy to kill.
  • Maou the Demon King: The leader of the Demons, the Great Demon King Byakuou, appears to be based on this archetype. Demon King Jachi implies that fighting Byakuou and defeating him would be even more hopeless for Hallow since Hallow can't even injure Jachi.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Demons in the Magic Forces World all appear to be themed after aquatic animals and their talent for magic surpasses humanity's to such an extent that even being in the presence of a Demon King can be lethal.
  • World's Strongest Man: The Great Demon King Byakuou is the strongest of the demons and the strongest in all of the Magic Forces World before the merge.
  • Zerg Rush: Individually, the common Demon is weak but there are lots of them. Even when Hallow and the rest of humanity can easily kill individual demons, it's only a matter of time before they break through and swarm humanity's base.

    Robots
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_002201.png
World of origin: Machine Rule World/The Mecha Ordinance
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Machine Rule World. Hyper adaptative predators that seem to not just target humans but all forms of organic life as well.
  • Adaptive Ability: While magic worked on them at first, they quickly made counter measures against it, showing how fast they can adapt to a new opponent's abilities.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Will seemingly attempt to kill anything with a heat signature, including but not limited to their own creators, humanity, which has resulted in them taking over most of the world they originated from. This aspect made it easier for Hallow to get the robots to fight the demons as the robots cannot differentiate the demons from humans, thus causing them to attack the one with the bigger energy signal - that being the demon Kiva.
    Parasites
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_002549.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_11_714x1024_2.png
Parasite Infected Giant
World of origin: Parasite World/Parasitica
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Parasite World. A mysterious parasitic lifeform that can attach itself to forms of life and take them over, turning them into what is essentially an undead puppet.
  • Body Horror: A parasite takes over the body of a dead Giant and mutates it into a flesh abomination.
  • Foreshadowing: A couple of Giants were shown constantly scratching their necks before it was revealed they were infected by parasites when the corpse of a Giant ripped open its neck to allow the parasite to burst out and transform the Giant.
  • No Biochemical Barriers: At first it's shown to only infect humans but as shown later with a Giant, it doesn't have any limits to the kinds of living beings it can infect.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: The parasites have been shown to be capable of taking over the bodies of those they have infected.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: The Parasite World is overrun by the Parasites, with most of humanity having fallen victim to its infection and the remaining humans unable to defeat the hordes of infected.
    Giants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_09_28_144438.png
World of origin: Giants' World/The Titan's Crown
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Giants' World. Exactly what they sound like. Violent, brutish and dim, these creatures have a love of violence and enjoy crushing weaker foes underfoot. Apparently they have a king.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Violence is so much a part of their nature, that even a spell used to calm down violent beasts, used at full strength, cannot stop the Giants from committing horrific acts of violence on the human party before them.
  • Blood Knight: They enjoy it when humans that can fight appear before them. But it quickly becomes clear this is more them being excited to have a more durable toy they can play with.
  • Casually Powerful Giant: Even when the humans of Giants’ World have their bodies strengthened immensely by the drug Red, they are still nothing more then slightly more durable playthings to the Giants.
  • Evil Virtues: Camaraderie. The Giants have several times gone on murdering sprees against a species for the act of murdering a Giant. Seeing one of their own murdered by a New Human immediately enrages the other Giants to the point they start murdering New Humans en mass.
  • Giant Equals Invincible: They're ridiculously strong, fast, and tough. An orbital bombardment from one of the resistance fighters does little except irk some of the run-of-the-mill giants.
  • Hulking Out: When they encounter an actual threat, the Giants beat their chests which causes their bodies to expand.
  • Large and in Charge: The bigger the Giant, the stronger and higher up the hierarchy they are. At the very top is their tribe leader Gimbak.
  • Rock Beats Laser: When a human from the Cosmic Devil World uses an orbital bombardment weapon on a group of giants while he is flying high in the air, all it takes for the giants to beat him is simply to jump up and squash the man between its hands like a bug.
  • Stupid Evil: They aren't very intelligent, preferring to attack first rather than think.
  • The Worf Effect: A couple of them get dealt with by the Neo Humans fairly easily though they do take out hundreds of them in return.
  • World's Strongest Man: The strongest of them is their tribe leader Gimbak, who is said to be huge even other giants are tiny compared to him.
    Calamity
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1705_8.jpeg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_02_28_204704.png
World of origin: Misfortune World/The Disastrous Metropolis
The Natural Enemy of the Misfortune World.
  • Giant Equals Invincible: The Calamities are absolutely colossal in size and equally tough as well. As single Alien striking a Calamity at full force did no damage whatsoever, to the point the Calamity didn’t even acknowledge the Alien and kept walking.
  • Kaiju: The Calamities are unstoppable monsters of titanic proportions which appear to rampage throughout the world, destroying towns and cities.
  • Not Zilla: A giant monster for whom humanity is incapable of defeating without help, looking a lot like the King of the Monsters in the process.
  • Volcanic Veins: The one Calamity we see is covered in these.

    Aliens/ The Madarans
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2801_8.jpeg
There is no threat greater than "them".
World of origin: Cosmic Devil World/Celestia
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Cosmic Devil World. Aliens who have conquered space and have set their eyes on Earth, wiping out humanity and destroying any trace of their existence.

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Experiences both sides, where they show the Demon generals the sheer gap in strength between them and are also humbled when a Calamity walks by and absolutely destroys their ship whilst taking no damage from an attacking Madaran.
  • Absolute Xenophobe: Implied. The Madarans are said to kill every living thing that isn't a Madaran in sight once they're deployed, which humanity takes advantage of by having them be deployed among the Demon army.
  • Aliens Are Bastards: The way they are described implies they are like the other sentient Natural Enemies who look down on humanity.
  • Light 'em Up: The Madarans can fire whips of light from their eyes or hands, slicing apart anything they touch.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: A single Madaran sent the much larger Kiva flying with one punch, almost killing him.
  • Stronger Than They Look: The Madarans may look like cute humanoid shaped blobs but an entire army of demons and Kiva are slaughtered by just one of them. Hallow even gets the same feeling he felt during his fight with Jachi from the Madarans, implying these aliens are on the same level as a Demon King.
  • Flying Saucer: Their spaceships are shown to be saucer shaped.

    Untamed Wilderness
World of origin: Wild Green World/Gaia's Wrath
  • Death World: In the Wild Green World, plants and animals have been growing and multiplying at a fast rate to the point it's become impossible for humanity to continue living there.
  • Nature Is Not Nice: The wildlife and flora of the Wild Green World do not care about humans and their settlements and continue to grow and attack them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The moles about to attack the heroes see a Calamity walking nearby and immediately dive back into the ground.

    New Humanity
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b836cb13_ed23_4c4b_8272_8f96d6835146.jpeg
World of origin: Neo-Cruelty World/Neo-Terra
The Natural Enemies of humanity in the Neo-Cruelty World. They are the next stage of evolution for humanity and thus see their predecessors as inferiors and seek to wipe out as many as they can and play with the remaining humans for entertainment.
  • All According to Plan: They aren't ignorant of the heroes' plan to make the 13 different villainous factions wipe each other out. They just don't care and let the heroes think they have a glimmer of hope before snuffing it out.
  • Combat Pragmatist: They're not above using their children to stab Alio, who was too shocked to see children among the New Humans to attack them.
  • Hive Mind: They are seemingly of one mind with no individuality other than their appearances. They refer to themselves with "we" and when they fight, every New Human moves in a mirror-like sync with each other.
  • Inhumanly Beautiful Race: Every member of the New Humans are forever young and unnaturally beautiful to the point of being unsettling to look at.
  • Lack of Empathy: They show absolutely no emotions at the sight of their fellow New Humans being slaughtered by the Giants and even after they win, they see the losses they incurred as acceptable.
  • Only Six Faces: Looking closer at the New Humans shows that underneath all their garish outfits and hairstyles, every new human is extremely similar in appearance to the point they might as well be clones.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Like a child seeing a new toy, they’re ecstatic to see the other races from other worlds, such as the Parasite that took over a dead Giant’s body.
  • Zerg Rush: Individually, they're fast but not much tougher than normal humans. But the moment they bother to recognize a threat, they all immediately group up on their target and slash them into pieces.

    God

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_9343.jpeg
”Don’t pray…”

World of origin: Mad God's World/Indignia
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: It was created by the faith of the Mad God's World's denizens but quickly turned on them and became their natural enemy.
  • Expy: Of Berserk's Idea of Evil, as both are malevolent gods aiming to make life hell for humanity, despite the fact human consciousness is the reason they both exist to begin with.
  • God Is Evil: The humans of the Mad God's World live in fear of their God and must watch what they say, lest they anger it and be punished.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It's apparently very easy to anger.

    Curse
World of origin: Cursed Destruction World/The Cursed Lands
  • Death World: The curse is said to not only infect humans but can also cause the world to rot, pollute the ocean, and make the stars cold.
  • Mystical Plague: It acts like a disease infecting everything it touches, causing it to rot. Its more mystical attributes are implied by it being called a curse and that it can even affect the stars.
  • The Plague: It can be spread around like a normal disease and its first victim shown is the King of humanity in the Magic Forces World, who must be quarantined so it doesn't spread.

    The Game
World of origin: Recreation Hell World/Extremia
  • Ambiguous Situation: Unlike the other Natural Enemies, not much is known about The Game or how it became the Natural Enemy of the Recreation Hell World. All that is known is that the humans of that world appear to be addicted to The Game and desire to go back to playing it.

    Lawless Humans
World of origin: Lawless World/Land of the Lawless
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_02_28_204543.png

  • Ambiguous Situation: So far, why they’re considered a Natural Enemy despite being (as far as we know) completely normal humans is unknown.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Old Man Gio describes being captured by them and becoming their slave as this.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Are said to be normal humans and yet their malice and selfishness towards their fellow man match those of the other Natural Enemies.
  • Lack of Empathy: Despite living in an apocalyptic post-nuclear war world, the Lawless Humans show no compassion and will enslave any normal humans they come across.
  • Underestimating Badassery: The Lawless Humans are a Natural Enemy faction but because they’re described as just normal armed humans who have no care for their fellow humans and follow their own desires, Zaybi and the rest of the humans treat having to deal with them to be much better than dealing with either the Demons or Aliens. Time will tell if the Lawless Humans truly are the threat to all of humanity that every Natural Enemy faction is.

    World Tree
World of origin: Huge Tree World/Yggdrasion
  • Life Drain: The threat it poses to humanity is by draining the world of its life force, causing greenery to die off and water to disappear.
